The last thread was getting long and hard to load for some. I thought i'd start a new one as so many people are watching Sophie grow!! I am amazed and grateful to all of you for cheering DH & I on in this journey. We feel blessed to have been chosen to guard this little bunny sent from heaven and hence the name Sophie's choice.
We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/923654/#new
Sophie getting snuggled in her blanky after breakfast this morning.
New Addition Part ll - Sophie's Choice
I think she's already too big for just a website or webcam. I think a reality tv show is needed!
Thank you for bringing the story to us and allowing us to participate! Appreciate the frequent updates---and of course, I love the name of the new thread...LOL!
Kids grow up so fast.
Isn't that 'rest' mode for bunny ears?
Isn't it too cute how they turn their ears like little satelites ? ^_^ I play games with the crazy ole cat to see how far he will rotate his ear before he moves his head. Yes I know sigh. I need a life.
I love this bunny!
=^..^=
I think you should just crazy glue her to Brian;s chest, Celeste!
she is starting to look like that bunny in the monty python movie!!
wha - HA HA HA HA. love that scene
Celeste......Bubba is tugging at my heart strings! Will he be warm enough when the really cold temps come??? Can he move into your basement for winter? He's such a looker!! ....as is Sophie! LOL You are the bestest of Moms!
No worries DonnieBrook Bubba is a northern bunny. He will be ok. My bunnys are just fine in VERY brrrrsome conditions. But I do think he needs pets until he finishs grieving for his mate. I don't want to make anyone too sad but they do believe they mate for life. Perhaps he might date Sophie when she's of age as I'm sure he will be smitten. ahhhh wouldn't that just be the happiest ending ^_^
Then Celeste will have dozens to care for!
You will all just have to adopt Victor.
I'm already taken.
You better check. I don't think they've forgiven you for the calendar thing so you may be returned for a refund soon.
I have a feeling Victor's a keeper.
Thanks Deb!
I'm sure his kidlings have many storys to tell about their papa ^_^
Dahlianut......thanks for easing my fears! I am greatly relieved to know that, and I agree that Bubba must be feeling pretty sad at the loss of his partner, so he will need lots of comfort, Celeste. Actually, I'm very happy that he ended up at Celeste's house.......She is the best Mom I have ever known, and it sure looks like Brian could have some Father's Day essays written about him as well. What a relief! LOL
Speaking of losses that are sad.....Spot Butt, our little squirrel who hung out in our yard and at my animal bath for several years has, I fear, met his untimely demise - most likely as the prey of the hawks, ospreys or eagles that also hang out here. We would have seen him by now. Sniff. He was a favorite because he would carefully walk down our cabbage palm tree without disrupting my thermometer or my basket of petunias, both of which are attached to the tree. You don't find such good manners in the squirrel group here very often.
Sorry for your loss Louise..manners are indeed rare these days!
Thanks, Celeste - I'm such a softie when it comes to the animal world. I should not let myself get so attached, but somehow it doesn't take much! LOL There are so many predators, so some tragedy is bound to happen. Ugh.
O I'm so sorry DonnieBrook. I'm willing to send you Damien the Spawn of Satan Tree Rat. o wait.. edit... I will send you a cute little black squirrel that hangs in my yard. Seriously, it is very sad when your wild friends pass. I am very attached to my wild birds and there is a constant loss every year :(
Sorry for your lose. I could send you a dozen or two of squirrels-both gray or flying squirrels.
Sandy and My squirrel chaser Andre the demon child
I understand, Dahlianut. I get pretty nervous about Carl and Carla Cardinal. They, too, have been with us for so many years. When we leave, they go hang out at our friends 2 doors away until we return. We have breakfast with them every morning. Now we have a strange cat hanging around our yard and I'm quite concerned about them as well. In Connecticut we had a few black squirrels that were regulars.....loved them. I know that most birders really hate the squirrels, but I don't mind them at all. There's plenty for everyone, even the pigeons that are mean to the doves.
Thanks, Wren! But see.....if you've named them, you secretly like them too! LOL
I have to may to name. Did name a Cardinal. Cricked bill, had a damaged bill but has been around 3 summers.
Actually DonnieBrook I have a great additive that I mix with my bird seed that doesn't harm the birds and he hates it. Also I have nesting robins too which have zero tolerance for Damien. My problem is that he trashes my new plantings; digs things up as fast as I plant. I have fool-proof bulb protection but I'm a seeder and he lurks and waits until I plant the tender new perennial babies out and then descends. Often its a slaughter :(
Good morning all
Rest easy Donniebrook Sad to say the live span of most birds and squirrils is about three years.
Dispell those morbid thoughts of Raptor feast of your little buddy, he might have just fallen asleep and not awakened.
Nice thought....one can hope.....^_^
Today we went and bought a big bag of pellet food and a bale of cedar for Bubba bunny. We decided that we will try to get it in the house if we can. For now, until we win it's trust we need to make sure it has food, water and bedding to survive out there. I do worry.....anyone going by my house at 7am knows just how much. I'm out there in my bathrobe & boots calling him!!
Wow, the saga of Sophie, and now Bubba the Bunny from outdoors, is so exciting! I can't wait for the daily updates.
These two are just tooooo cute!
Dahlianut, what additive do you put in the birdseed? We have a feeder outside mom's window, close enough so she can see, BUT it's close enough for the squirrels to jump down from the roof and gorge. One morning I chased one off 7 times before I gave up. He jumped down, ran over to the tree and onto the roof then onto the feeder, whence I chased it off. I was dying laughing cuz I watched it do this cycle 7 times. Any suggestions short of getting rid of the feeder? She loves to see the cardinals, etc. come and feed. We even have a woodpecker come.
Have you tried to put a dome on it or get one of those that spin the squirrel off. Which would be fun to watch. LOL
There is a baffle so they can't climb up, but DH put a metal roof thinking they would slide off. It needs to be steeper. I'd love to see little Sophie up in there. Wouldn't mom be surprised?
JoAnn - thanks for that info on the life span. We had the pleasure of Spot Butt's company for well beyond his life expectancy, so I guess I'll rest easier with that knowledge!
Celeste - Conjuring the image of you in the early a.m. coaxing Bubba and Brian cuddling Sophie just made me giggle. I'll be most anxious to hear developments concerning Bubba's entry into the household. Yay for you and Brian!!! Sophie will wrap that Big Bunny around her little white paw!! LOL
Good news...DH picked up Bubba...not for long but it is progress!
He pushed to get down and DH didn't want to frighten it so he let him down. Will try again tomorrow.
