She's about to.....#39 Brug Addicts Chat

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Morning everyone... sounds like most have their baby brugs going well. I really do love the quick results I am getting with spraying the recipe on my cuttings. Even if you can't find all the ingredients a mixture of most will probably work very well. It is just a mix of fertilizer and micronutrients .. the tea tree oil works to deter fungus and other unwanted things.

taters, you can also use 2 or 3 liter soda bottles in a pinch for pots ... cut the tops off and make slits in the bottoms areas for drainage. Nice thing about those.. you can see your roots too. Sort of fun. Cutting holes in the bottoms can be difficult because it is a lot denser than the sides so just cut the holes in the bottom sides. They don't detoriate and get brittle and break like some plastics either. I have some I have used for over 2 years.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I may have a wonderful gift coming in time for Christmas ;0) I have been quietly working this week on adopting another abandoned Boston Terrier pup.......She is 1 years old...I have adopted from the same rescue before (my Raynee) so they are anxious for me to take her as they know how good I care for my babies.....Not gonna tell you what they are calling her, because it's awful, hehe! If I get her, she'll get a brand new one. Wish me luck girls, I could use a cheer after losing my Lily....I'm just used to having THREE widdle Boston babies and miss her so much.........

Oh, Karen.. that would be sooooo wonderful! Can't wait to hear....

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Tammie I use a philipshead screwdriver...
I heat it up over the burner and if it's hot enough it goes right
through most any plastic....
So you can put the holes easily in the bottom of the 2 liter bottles....
I improvise alot....LOL

Crossing my fingers that you get the new baby Karen...

I've lost about 7 cuttings so far out of abt 30 or so of them...
Most mushed from the inside out and just left the outside bark hollow...??

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen that would be so nice if you get her. Good luck!
LK

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Phyllis, you can cut the mushy part off, and keep trying.
LK

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you, all! I need the cheer right now...I sure am praying it all works out....I use a phillips screwdriver and a hammer to pop holes in my "pots" but the heating idea sounds great and would work better on soda jugs...

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

LK I did with the green ones ....but after awhile there's no saving it..
and alot of them you couldn't tell till it was too late..
They were mostly in the moss...after they nubbed...
They were the thicker woody cuttings...no signs of mush on the outside

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Oh it works good on pots too and it doesn't crack them either...LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi all home for lunch, saw the posats about plastic milk/water jugs and 2 ltrs bottles, I use anything that I can cut the top off here LOL no matter what the colour or shape if it sets flat I am saving it! Karen: I use miracle grow since I don't have the fish kelp, and I use more than 6 tblespoons, about a half cup.. I kow that is not what it calls for, but plants love it down here.. back to work and hugs to ya all.. ( I use a ice pick to poke holes with and a long stem lighter to make them bigger, and punch holes in tops of water bottles to put on hanging rope to hang pots too.. ) RECYCLE!! LOL hugs ya all

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I actually use a soldering iron to melt long holes in the bottoms of the soda bottles.. I do it in an open area since the fumes from melting plastic can be toxic. It just goes through it like melting butter.. Just did not want to mention to make it more complicated than it needs to be..

.....I love the idea of making them into hanging baskets... good idea

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi all, I just stopped in for a sec. I am now in Davenport, Iowa. My mom needs me for a bit. I will try to pop in occasionally. Right now I just wanted to say hi.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Karen, I'm sure you will get your terrier when they know what good care you give them. Wonderful Christmas present to yourself. LOL

Have a nice plastic pot with no hole in bottom so I'm going to get out the phillips screwdriver, heat it up and see what I can do. I usually have asked DH to drill holes for me in a lot of them, but now he has decided I know how to use the drill so don't bother him. It will make a nice pot for one of my baby brugs.

I've found hundreds of cut worms in my raised garden bed. The more I dig the more worms I find. Each week I have a lot of them going out with the trash. I guess raising up the garden bed doesn't eliminate all the yukies.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

A late good morning everybody! Had to run to po and go get my drivers license renewed. Got to town and back before the rain is coming , so I happy about that.

Woman looke dat me like I was crazy when I told her hair blonde and still runnign aroudn with this carroty orange hair. tried to explain to her and show her roots where it a hair color job gone bad.

Oh puppy!!!!!!!!!! How I love puppes and dogs. I still haven't found one yet that I have that special connection with like I had with my other baby. Maybe after the holidays I will drive down to the humane shelter or the pound and see who I can fidn that wants to be my buddy. : )

Used to be the pound here only charged 20 bucks for adog and then by the time ya took em and got em shots and wormed and checkups and everything it was another couple hundred bucks. Now the pound charging 100 bucks a dog for ones they gonna put down. Don't seem right somehow.

We got rain and looks like lots of it comign again this way. Don't mind the rain, just hate when it freezes after it.

Might even try and get my tiny Christmas tree up today. Takes abotu a whole five minutes. Pul from box, stick in stand and straighten a few branches. It still has the ornaments on it from last year. : )

Have a good day all!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Ella! Jerry and I had that discussion last night......The Boston Terrier rescue group always wants $300.00 in "donations", it is NOT an adoption fee they say.....for any of their dogs. The humane society here is now $100.00.......Of course I realize operating costs are there, but it does seem crazy that it costs that much now. MAJOR deterrent to more people adopting....Why would they want to when you can buy a registered Boston Terrier puppy for $300.00? Or get alot of breeds of registered pups for $100.00 at the Wal-Mart parking lot?

I got my tree put up last night, wish I could show ya'll video...I have a train and track that is suspended in the middle of the tree and whistles along merrily in between all the branches and ornaments....(grandkids will love it one day when I have some ***whistles innocently***)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, send the video to my email please, I wold love to see it. Where did you find the train that goes in the tree?

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I may have to actually put up my tree with my ornaments coming! I was considering getting a smaller one for the ornaments. Since I live alone I have gotten out of the habit of decorating the inside of the house for christmas. I may just have to do some decorating this year. I did clean the house! LOL Also.. reading about everyone elses decorations is getting me in the mood. I always do the outside.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

That train is so cute, thanks for the web site. Would make a great gift for our first great grandson, 3 months old.

I need that push from DGers to put up decorations too. Since I got a curio cabinet I now can display my Precious Moments Nativity set year round. If I decorate that means cleaning first which I need another push to do. LOL

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Phylis -

You might try just planting it - I had set a cutting in a pot by the door for the trash - the whole stem except the last 1 1/2" had shrivelled - thought for sure it was a goner - a couple days later - I noticed a leafbud and roots -so It got potted - and has been growing fine - I think it was just too moist before - I kept cutting off the rotten stuff - but it didn't work till I tossed it on a pot with a dead plant - so ya never know - the others rooted just fine

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

they really dont' have to be really wet to grow.. just damp is enough./

gee... everyone sure has been quiet the past few days!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all! I just got through packing the ornament boxes for shipping. When Becky's get here I will add hers to the boxes and then mail them to you. Just wanted to give you the status of sending them...I've been horribly busy with holiday decorating and gift wrapping, and sorting the ornaments. Guess I will call it an early night....See you in the morning! Love, Karen

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Goodnight everyone, looks like a nice chat here and I missed it.. I love the train too.. Tammie I am going to buy a tiny live tree shrub plant of some sort and decorate it with my ornaments and use it every year after this... for an ornament tree.. Hmm, I might even do seasonal ornaments.... hows' about Valentines' Ornaments?

Cold here at night and nice in the day so far.. keep thinkng it looks like snow a coming, but it goes east of us..
Linda Kay : I will decorate my "plant curio" downstairs for christmas if you will.. we can help each other LOL..
had a great night out for my GS 15th birthday.. went to a family owned restaruant, called Savutes. It has been in Wichita since 1942.. (Italian) .. I had buffalo sirloin steak italian style.. yummy.. then we went to look at lights..

Where did everyone go? Not a single post today? Can't get away with that.. have to post something. Went to the annual Chruismas party across the street from my parents.. why is everyone getting older but me? LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. How are your brugs doing. The few blooms I had are wilting away, and I really hope to get some seed pods, but I have more buds on the way, and if we don't freeze, I really hope to get one more show out of them. So far I have had one pink insignis bloom, one pink velvet, and one real pretty orange one, I have no name for. They are all wonderful to watch, because they all start out yellow, then magically change to another color! It is like watching your kids grow up, wondering what they are going to be like?
I have coffee, and apple turnovers for you when you all get up.

T.G.I.F.!!!
LK

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Mmmmmm coffee and apple turnovers, what a perfect breakfast. Thanks taters! Still a little chilly and I'm tempted to go back to bed and warm up.

I so have a few buds on my biggest brug, hoping they don't fall off. So anxious to see what color she will be.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning! Thanks Linda Kay, I'll take a turnover and better make another pot of coffee! Tammie I guess it's just that busy holiday time and people are doing all sorts of things.. I know I haven't had much time to be on DG. I worked on my million piece tiny Christmas village last night, that's enough to drive anyone crazy. Tiny lighted everythings, including the snow I tell ya! Got to say that my tree is the prettiest one in Texas, because that was definitely the reward to organizing the ornament exchange, hehehe! Mine are already on my tree! Oh, ya'll are going to be very pleased and happy with the wonderful things you're friends made. I can't wait for you to see them!

I wish I had more outdoor ornaments....that would just give me something else to obsess over, LOL! Deb that lighted house is GAWJUSS!!!!!! Made me think of the Griswald's in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. That is still a funny movie after all this time. I watched "A Christmas Story" last night...."You'll shoot your eye out!"

I'm feeling silly this morning. Hope you all have a wonderful day my dears!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, any word on your new puppy baby yet?
LK

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

LK, not yet.....Seems that they have tried to place her several times (in homes with male Bostons) and they didn't get along at all. They have a meeting Saturday with someone who lives in the city she's in who is interested in her, but they also have a male Boston. (secretly hoping she doesn't like him)....I am a little concerned that she might not get along well with my dogs, so we just have to wait and see. The Dallas Humane Society had another they got yesterday that is 2 and heartworm positive....She needs to be spayed and treated before adoption...They are wanting me to look at her too....she's being picked up from the dog pound today..

When the guy woudl come over and start singign the song. Good night sweetheart, all the pups woul dimmedialetly fall alseep. Was the neatest thing. : )

Anybody heard from Becky?????? Worried abotu her and her hubby, ther ebeen no word for a coupel days now if I remembering right.

Ok, sneake din here to say and Hi and sneakign back out. Got aget to work so I can play. Enjoy the day!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Where does the time go? I don't even have the energy to do half the stuff I need to do. I only have one tree up and it's in the sunroom. The main tree isn't even up yet. No outdoor decorations. I don't even know if I want to put them up. I love the lights so and they put off such a warm glow at night. I would miss that if I didn't get them all up. Oh well.

Karen, heartworm treatment is so hard on a dogs' kidneys. It will either kill them or the worms. In the vet hospital where I worked we saw too many dogs with heartworms. There's no excuse for that. The treatment really weakens the animal. If they pull through they should follow up with blood work to see how the kidneys are. To spay her on top of that would be hard for her. The kidneys and liver have to filter the anesthesia, unless you opted for IV fluids during surgery. That saves a lot of wear and tear on those organs, especially after heartworm treatment. Our neighbors had a healthy six year old lab that died from heartworm treatment. His kidneys just couldn't take it. So sad.

That pic of the Boston is so precious. What a face. Her markings are different. I like them. She would be worth it I'm sure. Maybe they could do the treatment and spay a few months apart.

Eunice, MO(Zone 5b)

Who wants to diagragm slime molds. Study roses. They are prettier. lol Google it and forget it.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'll pass on the slime molds. I'm at war right now with cut worms, picked out two dozen more dead ones this AM. Discovered my mini schnauzer did her job in my flower garden, what a lecture she got!! As if that makes any difference to her.......

Cool weather here and some sunshine. Wish I could keep this year round..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Howdy Debra. Brug hugs back at ya. One of our Christmas Eve traditions is to drive around and look at lights. I love the lights.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello everyone!!

If it could happen... it did it seems.... Lyle is hurting bad, and we just got in a lil while ago... TY Ella, for your concern! Lyle had it rough, and still is, but hopefully everyday will prove to be a better day for him!

Karen.. I am soo sorry that I am the last to ship the ornaments. If I had known what i know now i would have asked you to go ahead and ship them, and i would have sent them separate! I did take the package to the PO, but leaving sooo early Wednesday morning, I slipped the money and a note through the slot, and took the package around back... taking a chance it would be ok! The package was ok, but the "new" postmaster, didn't "know" what to do, cause I had sent a 20$ bill... and HE DIDN'T know what to do with the change...!!!!!!... so he did nothing!! I stopped by on our way home, and he told me this... anyway.. it's in the mail.. but it won't bother me in the least if you want to go ahead and mail the other girls packages... just send mine back, and i can mail separately! I am truly sorry!!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Becky it's allright...that is fine, and no problem waiting a few days on it. We still have plenty of time, and they will be mailed Priority so I'll get them out as soon as I get yours.
