Finally have one about to blow...this one is 'Red Peacock'.

Hi Robin. I'm hanging in there, how about you. My 1 yr old grandaughter brought me some kind of bug for Thanksgiving and it's nasty! I've been mostly on the couch with drugs, a warm blanket, & a box of klennex the last 2 days.

I was a little disappointed in Red Peacock. It doesn't seem like the bloom opens up very far. It'll do though. Can't wait for my Picotee to bloom. I just potted up my Aphrodite.

I got some paperwhites and have those starting to bloom now. And am planting my 1st batch of hyacinths. I'll have sweet smelling flowers all winter! That's the plant anyway!

I was a little disappointed with Red Peacock too. It doesn't open very wide does it?? Also, it looks maybe a little more 'red' than orange sovereign. Which means it really looks orange to me. LOL

It had these really nice white stripes on the back of the petals which you can't see hardly at all now. After my gorgeous nymph which turned out to be aphrodite, I think I have been spoiled.

Doesn't it just figure! LOL. Red Peacock was the one I got several of, to give as gifts! :-)
Oh well, I will know for next year. My white stripe is there but not real visible.

I don't have any others ready to open up yet, but Picotte should only be a couple of weeks. I'm really looking forward to that one.

What I'd like to know is how people do the music notes?

Anywho, my 'Dancing Queen's are finally sprouting (thankfully, cuz they're my presents) and my 'Pasadena' is in full bloom with two more buds. It also seems to be semi-closed... I wonder what would cause that? Maybe my home is too chilly @ 68 degrees near a window?

I think Moonlight and Red Peacock are both suppose to be smaller but more blooms. At least that is the way they appear to me in the pictures we got originally.

I bought one huge bulb of Red Peacock but I haven't planted it yet. One of these days. I will/should know for sure when it blooms.

First bloom on Red Peacock opened for me yesterday. It is one that I took to the hospital where I work and everyone is awed by it. It's very tall and I can see four more buds forming, but they aren't real big yet.

Boy how I wish my house were a "chilly at 68*"!!! Hehehe.... I just couldn't resist that jab.though....but seriously, I do hope that you don't suffer too much cold damage.

Sheryl, I think 68 degrees is much better than warmer. It may take longer to open, but I think they will be blooming longer at the cooler temps. Just my opinion.

So far one stem on each, no leaves and I only see one other bud so far.

I love that color. I guess I had better plant that large one I have.

Don't know. I did not think so from the pictures. Maybe you got a big miracle. Take care of it and you might have something there. Like Super Peacock?

I have lots of stems but NO blooms.... The one that I gave to my MIL is blooming and the other one I gave her is getting close. I have another one planted with some paperwhites that I HOPE is getting close to bloom time by Christmas, but it is going to have to get with the program in a hurry because right now it is only about an inch tall...LOL ...

I have one that I kept that is about 6" tall, then the three that I took out of "cold storage" that I had purchased last year - two of the three have three leafs each on it and the other one looks like it MIGHT be about to send up a bloom spike. Looks like all the other two are going to do is send out leaves.............since they are probably 16" tall or more and no sign of a bloom.... :-( Not sure what I did wrong.....

I don't think you did anything wrong, it's happened to me before. I bulb didn't bloom in the spring, just leaves but in the fall it did bloom with very little foliage!

Hello, everyone, I didn't post for a long time, had some problems...

... but I followed the thread, and I'm happy to see all your blooms, and hope for more! The PF lists Red Peacock as a double amaryllis http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/109917/ , so I think you've got the right one, Pixie. Kitty, maybe yours is Red Lion http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56448/ ? Did you order both, by any chance?

I'll gather my strength tomorrow or weekend the latest, and post my results so far, with pictures. Until then, hugs for all.

Wow - Dyane I am jealous.....those pots are gorgeous!! I never did find ANY pots other than a few clay pots and I had to go 2 hrs to get those! It is ridiculous...... Your pots are really pretty and that sure helps when doing gifts. Were they really expensive? or do you have a good local source for them?

My daughter did paint one of the larger clay pots for her grandmother and we put paperwhites and one amarylis (aphrodite I think) in it and I think she will really be excited about that one because of the painting my daughter did. She already has 2 and that will be the final batch I give her.

I still have three I believe that aren't potted...... need to locate something else to put them in. But I am trying to hold them until Valentines......we'll see. So far, they have not been very cooperative on scheduling....^_^

Thanks, Genna. I got all my pots in the clearance section at Michael's craft store. Not sure if you have them in your area (doesn't sound like you have many stores at all!). Had to make a few visits to two different locations to get enough for the 17 bulbs I ordered but it was worth it. No pot was more than $3.99, the ribbon was 50% off and the Spanish Moss I already had. The only issue is that the pots don't have drainage so I added rocks to the bottoms and will instruct people not to overwater.

This year I will keep an eye open for pots at yard sales for next year's. You can get some nice ones for $1.00 or less.

There are a few Michael's left around I believe in Little Rock (2 hrs away) and possibly Texarkana (1.5 hrs away) but I didn't think to try them. I hit up a Hobby Lobby thinking I would find lots of goodies but they had moved all their gardening stuff out to make way for Christmas. Our Wal-mart did not have a SINGLE pot left by the time I had ordered bulbs...... and neither did the Super Wal-mart in the next town.

I didn't think about getting ribbon at HL but I probably could have gotten some of it there - but since my pots that I do have don't look Christmasy at all I won't bother with the ribbon. I would like to have some of the Spanish Moss though.....where do you get that? same place? I will have to look in Wal-mart, I might could find some of that and I think it makes it look nicer.

They did have some small urn type pots at Hobby Lobby that I looked at - but they were 9.99 each and I didn't want to pay that much. So, I will just use what I have for this year and try to be on the look out for something better for next season.............. I really only bought to share with my MIL because she lives in the nursing home - and because I missed the coop that ya'll had, I purchased 5 each of two type and 1 single of one to get the better price. Next year, I may try to get my pots lined up and do some more as Christmas gifts for others in the family assuming I can get something at a reasonable price.

Dyane those pots are lovely!! We do have a Michaels here..I should of looked!
