very nice!

Beautiful Wineaux! Looks like you are the first to get blooms, unless I missed a post somewhere!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

How nice..... Lucky you!

(Cathy), MO

I have to admit, it's prettier in reality than I thought it looked on the website. I didn't get any Pasadenas. Now wishing I had!! LOL

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Cathy, I think he had some offered on Marketplace.

That is very pretty Wineaux. Now, how many flowers on the top one? I can't tell if the ones behind the open one is on the same stem or what. Also, you said there is another shoot coming out of the bulb? Well, if all of these are a 'yes', then that bulb did pretty good I would say.

I bought 2 Charisma from Bleek , the bulbs are huge!!!!!!

Tucson, AZ

yes, they are very pretty. There are 3 flowers on the top and another large shoot starting on the bottom. Yippee! Nothing much happening on any of the others though.

(Cathy), MO

I have 1 shoot on a Red Peacock with what looks like a bud on the end! I planted 3 bulbs in a basket, and the other 2 are barely starting to send up shoots. It may look a little lopsided! LOL

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Well, I sent the pasadena that was about to bloom to my MIL this weekend. It will be small I think and the stalk is only about 7" but I guess that is not too bad considering I almost let the thing bloom in the sack!! ^_^ I hope to get back to town within a day or two and pick up some of the bowls I saw....I think I can use some of those for potting since you said that I could put rocks in the bottom and hopefully it work out ok. I had hoped to make a run to LR or somewhere with a Hobby Lobby or something so I might could find some cute things - but doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon, so guess I need to go ahead and just put them in what I can find.

I also pulled the ones out that I had put in storage about 6 weeks ago...I am hopeful that they will take off and bloom for Christmas.

I have a metal container that would be perfect for three of the bulbs, but I was afraid that I would rust it out...... is there anything I could use to line it with?

Thanks
Genna

(Cathy), MO

I don't know what others are doing, but I lines one of my baskets with heavy duty aluminum foil. Some baskets come with a plastic liner, but wouldn't you know these didn't. That was mostly to keep water from getting all over my table though. Not sure if it wold work on a metal container

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I lined some of mine with HD foil as well, as a matter of fact.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Genna, I *really* wouldn't put something in soil without drainage - it's a perfect situation for the roots to rot. If you're going to do it in something without drainage, I'd do the pebble/marble/whatever thing and make sure the water line doesn't come up past the very bottom of the bulb.

Here are the Charisma bulb I got from Bleek in the market place....great size!

NICE!!

I bet the one on the left will really light up the room.

Well, Wineaux, remember the violet pot? Well, today I took the amaryllis out of it and planted it in a 6 inch clay pot. It was really dry but then I had been afraid of overwatering it so of course it was. That is probably why 2 of the buds rotted.

It should do better now. Don't use that pot you got for anything other than a violet I guess. LOL

I bet your right kitty! lol

Nice bulb pixie! I went in and ordered a Pasadena after seeing wineaux's picture! It's a sickness I tell you! :-)

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

LOL on the sickness cat! It will sure be beautiful when they start blooming though.....

Got my Pasadena today. Nice bulb.

Anyone else have blooms yet?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Here is a photo of the second two flowers on my Moonlight. Looks like 4 because it was taken in front of a mirror. It already had about a 3" stem when I opened the sack and the first two flowers lasted about a week. I potted up the other 4 bulbs I received from the co-op and have them growing in a window at the hospital where I work. One stem is about 9" tall and one other just emerging from the bulb. The other 2 show no signs yet of growth, but hopefully will open by Christmas. The patients are enjoying watching them grow day by day.

Beautiful Susan! Isn't that the one that is supposed to have a aroma? Does it?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I love the green in that one!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I just went and smelled it and I don't notice any fragrance.

Nice trick with the mirror, lol - you should have left us guessing!

That really is a beauty. (Ugh -face it Sheryl, you're an addict.) I love them all!

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm not getting success with the bulbs in rocks & water. Is anyone having much luck?

(Cathy), MO

I put the one bulb that had 6 or so inches of growth in water with rocks. So far it's doing ok. Has grown another inch or so

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Just saw this thread. When did you all do the coop on amaryllis? I am a new DG member and I'd like to know when to start looking for the coop next year (assuming they're still running then ^_^ )

Thanks.

Sarah

(Cathy), MO

Hi Sarah. There are coops running all the time. Someone just posted an interest thread for heat mats, for example.
The majority of them are done early spring through fall. There may still be a few going on over the winter months for plants for spring delivery. Just gotta keep an eye on the Coop forum! :-)
Welcome to Daves Garden!

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Cathy. That coop forum is a bit intimidating, but I'll check it out. I was just wondering what the timing was for ordering the amaryllis bulbs. They're fast becoming another one of my addictions! ^_^

Sarah

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Have they decided to allow co-ops again? Does anyone know what's happened?

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, co-ops are open again.

(Cathy), MO

They are open temporarily until Dave decides how best to handle them. They may be moving to another area of DG. Or there may be new rules in place. We don't know yet. One thing is pretty certain, there will be some changes in them.

The amaryllis won't be until next fall Sarah. I'm guessing around Sept. If you want some this year, Bleek had a few left in the Classified section. They are nice big bulbs.

Also, if you are interested in coops and you don't already have one, you may want to consider opening up a paypal account. Some coop hostesses only take paypal.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

lowellsf, you will find the classifieds under "Products & Sources" in the headers at the top of each thread.

Also, I was looking at the amaryllis in Walmart today. They had them for $5 and $10. I looked at the $5 and they weren't very big bulbs, but the one I looked at had grown about 8 inches in that little box and was all curled up in there. The $10 bulbs were in little buckets painted to go with whatever the color of the bulb. I didn't look at any of those bulbs.

Another thing, after Christmas most of the stores that carry them have closeouts on them. Kind of late for having them blooming for Christmas, but then we like flowers year 'round don't we?
