Be careful of those fires, thay can change directions with the wind.

She's about to....#37 Brug Addicts Chat/Coffee w/friends
Ooh, that dip sounds good Esther...I would never have thought of sour cream. Aw, Pegi, 50 years....I am so happy you are safe during the fires. Exactly how far away are you?
Hey Becky! How's it going? Is Lyle and the man going to be working on your greenhouse tomorrow? I enjoyed the pictures you posted showing the bee houses....Doesn't make sense that they give you Sue Bee honey in return though....I'd want some of the honey right out of my yard, LOL! Ummm, honey...
I just woke up from a lazy nap..Made a pecan pie and some pinto beans, may just have cornbread and call it supper. I'm really having a hard time keeping Jerry out of the pie until it cools properly, he's already picked a pecan off the top! Sheesh, just like a little kid! I love him though ^_^
Oh my Pegi.... I meant to say something earlier to you... just how close are you to the fires?? I don't watch a lot of news, but i remember something about the CA. fires... gosh.. stay safe!! Hope you had fun last night!
Kitty... just for you..lol... the banana is planted..yay... not looking too good this morning though...lol... had a lil frost last might..
Linda Kay... awww don't make me look...lol... I LUV Christmas
Nope, not twisting anyones arm! LOL
LK
yep Karen... it's the same here too... I make a pie, and the first piece comes out before it's cooled..lol.. Yep.. Hollis is supposed to bring another man tomorrow. He brought the windows he had yesterday, but Lyle had already done a lil on the side walls, framing out for the windows and was in so much pain, had to quit. Maybe .. hopefully more can get done tomorrow. Sure needed it last night... got a lil burn on some of the brug leaves even though I covered them with a sheet. .. and the ones that I planted... I just turned on the "automatic" sprinklers all night.. now that is the way to go..lol... I was looking at them just a lil bit ago, and I have a few Y's on those...yay
Yummm. Good recipes. I'm glad to see the Texas gals made it through the freeze last night. The propane heater in the greenhouse worked like a champ. It kept the house at 52 all night. Everybody else outside was covered or in the workshop. I will look at a hardware store and mobile home supply. My problem isn't so much the vent itself as it is affixing it to the plastic without causing tears. Maybe they'll have a lightweight one and I can super glue the sucker. Thanks for the ideas.
I think I see tiny little buds on Cherub Pink (Miss Gargantuan). Do you think she will be able to fully bloom in winter. She'll never be in an enviroment less than 38 degrees.. She will be outside in the sun everyday as long as it isn't below 38. I have waited so long. (sigh) My cuttings are beginning to take off. My seedlings as well.
Pegi be ever so careful with the fires. I'm sure you know how to watch for them, but they can change direction so quickly.
Becky, I'm glad you felt touched by the Lord today. Me too. Our sermon was on hearing the voice of God. The great thing was, our own personal Bible study was on hearing the voice of God. We didn't know the sermon was on that too. Now I think the Lord is telling me that I need to be listening more carefully and then when I hear Him to respond appropriately.
Oh what a good day it has been.
Hey everybody...Just checking in for a bit ...been very busy last few days..
Karen...plan to ship ornaments to you this week..Recieved some more brug cuttings and plumeria's this week...got them potted up...Can't wait to see outcome of all..The plumerias are also new to me...
Hey Jeanne! Yes, it has been a good day! I'm just as full of beans and yellow rice and pecan pie as I can be. I think it was the best pecan pie I've ever made. It's supposed to get cold here again tonight...Glad the bubble bags are all still on my babies.. Hey Mary! Good to see you, you been doing okay?
I'm getting ready to watch my 2 favorite tv shows, True Blood and Dexter so I'll check in a little later.
This message was edited Nov 16, 2008 6:51 PM
Mmmmm send me some pie to eat while I watch them same two shows!!!!
Me too, that sounds so good, will go with a cup of coffee!
Good night all.
LK
I'm not a pecan pie fan but I did have lemon merangue tonight. I like beans and rice too. I really like chicken and yellow rice with black beans and onions.
It's supposed to go down to 38 tonight so I won't heat the greenhouse. I did cover the outdoor plants in case we have a light frost. The brugs, poinsettias, devil's trumpet and mandevellia are all in Sooner Country for the night. Tomorrow everything comes out because we are supposed to be mild all week. I will however keep them around the greenhouse so I don't have to gather them from all around the yard the next freeze.
Bonnie, what brug is that in the pic? Is that Maya next to it? The little Maya cutting you gave me is striving, but I'm not going to give up on it.
sheesh I finally get here and everyones gone to bed :(
was working on my victorian santa all day.... still need to collect more water bottle caps before I can continue the ornaments....but my first santa looks real cute! LOL!
night all!
{{hugs}} anjl
Gosh this place has been really quiet lately.....What Up??

didn't sleep well so i'm too tired to cook....
Gonna head back to bed and check in later on....
Where's Donna?? Haven't seen her post in awhile
Hope everythings okay with you girl....!!
Good Morning Everyone! I'll tip toe in for coffee and a danish.. thx Phyllis.. sleep well.. Mmm pecan pie... there's always a nice pecan half missing before it cools at my house.. Jeanne, I love all pie, except gooseberry... I'll be finishing my ornaments up at the deadline I'm sure.. lol although I did spend most of yesterday working on them.. Mary nice to see ya and that variegated in the pic is Snowbank... hang in there w/ Maya, I noticed the cutting I kept has sprouted leaves, so I'm hopeful. The blooms in the pic are Pink Smitty (surprise-I didn't know he was a double!!!) and Antique Lace. Pegi, hope you remain safe from those fires.. Becky, can't wait for progress pics on the greenhouse, so cool it's becoming reality right before your eyes! AnjL, any pics of your Victorian Santas? And I can't wait to see what you are making out of bottle caps! LK, not going to look at the stocking exchange... (1 track mind w/ our ornament exchange or I won't finish in time, lol) Gotta run so I'm not late.. have a great day!
Morning my dear friends, I have been busy getting the Christmas Store set up and displaying the artificial designs. Now I have to regroup and get ready to begin making the live wreaths, etc. I wil try and send you a picture of our showroom when it is complete.
I tried to catch up on your activities and in doing so I gained three pounds. Golly Gang, you are hard on my diet. I love breakfast.....best meal of the day. My favorite is creamed chipped beef over toast and coffee of course. The chipped beef must be the good stuff, not the packaged. I go to the Amish Deli and get mine and keep it in the freezer until I want to use it. Usually that is our Holiday or Weekend family breakfast with home fries.
I enjoy reading all the posts and everyone's different type of food. As a little girl that meal would have been our supper. It was cheap and filling. Now, the dried beef is almost $9.00 a pound. Not cheap anymore.
I was concerned back a few days when I saw all that blood in the posts. I am sorry I missed out on being part of it, but then at my age I need all my blood just to keep moving.
But, that does not mean I do not want to be part of your bloody group. I adore you alll.
Today it is cold. We are about 20 miles as the crow flies, from the ocean. It keeps us warmer than inland farther except when the coastal storms arrive and they do that frequently lately. It has been so rainy and cloudy I can not keep my humidity in my GH as high as I would like it. My new plants are too wet, and need sunshine bigtime.
Barney's last bloodwork has improved and the pancreas is normal again but the liver enzymes are still high and we are hoping to put him on a new med to level them out.
He is feeling good but his health really stresses me. He is my last good friend. My birds are wonderful and wake me at dawn and I love them, but Barndog is at my side every minute.
Lastly, my brugs do not appear to be happy. They would rather be outside but that is not possible. I may have to put them in the GH if they do not perk up here in the house. I had overwatered them, now they are drying again and need to be watered. I need to learn what keeps them happy. That is my big problem so any suggestions will be appreciated.
I must get busy. I am cooking off chicken breasts for Barney's meals and need to get the flock fed before I go into town for supplies. I may have to settle for a bagel only this morning. Time is flying and I move slower than I used to. Time for my daily walk too. I hope my pic came out o.k. Head was missing on preview. Just my luck I lost my head. Oh well.
I will check in again in a few days. Thanks for missing me. Love you all. JB
Mornin sis's and bro's!!
Jeanne.. I can just slip in and get a piece of your lemon meringue pie.. bet you won't even miss it..lol
anjl... yeah I want to see pics too...lol
Bonnie... me too... I haven't had gooseberry, but I bet I'd like it too... I haven't met a pie I didn't like..lol.. Here's hoping Hollis and his friend comes today to do more on the GH..
Phyllis... just coffee please.. gotta open my eyes good before I stick food in it...lol yeah.. I have been asking Clemmie where Donna is... bunch more that is MIA...hmmmm
JB.... heck... that ceremony wasn't with the real thing....ain't NO way I would really cut myself...lolol.. just a way to hopefully bring all of us back together.. just put your hand up to the puter screen... and you are IN!!...lol... your lady is neat!!.. and has all her head BTW..lol
Got up early... to go check the brugs, and wash them off if we had a frost.... they were wet but I didn't see frost... but i tried and tried to turn on the water through that hose end fertilizer sprayer thing I have on the end of the hose...my thumb is still almost numb.... and even though I could have drug another hose out... I said heck fire...lol.. I really think they are ok this morning. Hope all of yours day is grand... best day of the rest of your life!!
Everything in my front living room is looking great - doesn't look much like a living room though - my son calls it the jungle - my husband added to the group by moving my peace lilies there so he could turn on the fireplace - hehe - he tried to last year without moving them - hehe he almost lost his head - I haven't gotten to the rest of the plants outside - they still look ok - hopefully my body will let me get it done this week
Morning. Glad to see a few folks up and about. Was wandering through Daves about 2:0 this morning and saw evrybody was a sleep and knew if I started making coffee it would wake somebody up, so I read a bit and tottled back to bed. Cold.. A four letter word wish I would hope magically change to warm. Another four letter word but oen that makes me definately feel good and energetic.
Gona get to 60F hopefully bfore an arti cblst tonight, so gonan haul plants back outside to gh ofr a bit and let them get some sun rays on them for awhile. Hate these in and out days with plants.
Havign fits cuz my neighbor who has to many animals alredy and neither the time nor resource s to care for them properly came home with yet another big dog. He not happy with me, cuz I told him he needs to stop. They have no shots, no tags, no wormmed and no proper shelter from cold an dlot sof times no food. I sneak treats and food to them all the time an dwater when I see they dont have any. Generally I a pretty calm person, but let me see somebody being mistreated or animals and children and I have a very very short fuse and suddenly a big voice to go with it.
He offered me yesterday to have the lab, but I tryign to get him to give me the one shepard that needs some hip treatment badly and has walking problems before it totally crippled. I been watching and biting my toungue as much as I can for months now. My shepard/chow mix lived to be 18 and half and that the same disease that I finally had to put him down for. Hardest thign I evr dd in my life and can't bear the thought of seeign this young dog just barely a year old go through the same thing. Sorry guess I needed a vent so I cna try and look at the situation cleary and try and find solutions to help them animals.
Did stick my head out the door to see how cold it is and noticed one lone Gerber daisy bloom out there with its head stuck up and blooming away. I'll probabaly go pick it later and bring it in the house and enjoy it for a little while, better me than the frost. ; )
Have to go to town today, and the po, an dget some things mailed out to folks. Werewolf ya goign out today. Got a bunch of other things to do today so be in and out all day I guess.
Time to get dressed and get a mov eon, but leaving fresh hot pot of coffee ad forget who it is but got some hazlenut creamer here for your cup.
Enjoy the day all, for soon it will be tommorrow.
Morning all! I slept in a little bit today, it was too cold to get up from under those snuggly blankets with my dogs, LOL!
Looking forward to a great day today, going to Lowe's with hubby for awhile. I stayed out in my cozy greenhouse for awhile last night and watched television..It is so much fun to have my own playhouse! I saw a television interview that touched me last night too, deeply. The television journalist was interviewing a lady that had written a book on how the most damaging thing you can do to your health is to absorb someone else's stress into yourself and make it your own. I forgot the technical name for it, but it spoke to me strongly. If you take Mary and Bob and Cathy's stress and absorb it into yourself then you are medically and spiritually left with a overloaded system that will make you ill, literally. It was definately food for thought......
Phyllis girl you should have come back by last night! Actually, it was pretty darn hoppin for a Sunday....Usually the quietest day of the week here.
JB I am so glad to read your post sweetie! I know you will be awfully busy in the coming weeks but please try to stop by and check in!
Oh, I wanted to show ya'll my baby girl's favorite place in the world. My Maddy jumps up from the ground and perches on the side of my computer desk, and nuzzles me while I type. She's my littlest Boston, and boy can she jump! Photo in next post

Karen, Maddy is adorable. I would love to have onelike that. My oldest daughter (step)
has always had Bostons and they are wonderful pets. Give her a big smooch for me.
Off to town NOW!
G'Morning again...Bonnie..JB..Ella..Karen..Ester and Beck....
Yeah Clem Witchy Woman where are you...??
So many mia's....Guess everyones hibernating....Sounds good though..
Had a pretty busy weekend BD dinner on Sat...
Furnance work and cutting wood on Sunday
Next weekend we're going away...yipee...
This week it'll be just like last... waiting on the Insurance company...again...
Here's Two of my GD's Arianna and Maddy(My BGF) with Maddy's daughter Lily...(taken Saturday)
Arianna finally found a puppy she could pet....LOL
Aw, love ALL the pics! GD's, DD's and puppies! Loved yours too, JB! Phyllis, how wonderful to get away for a week! We'll miss you. JB, I understand it's your busy season, but DO try to stop in with a pic here and there, I always love reading your posts... I don't know what more to tell you about finding the ideal environment for your brugs.. just keep trying, you will figure it out.. You've determined you were keeping them too wet, so I think you are getting close to keeping them content until the warm spring weather returns. I've killed more by too much water in winter, than not enough. I'm working to keep as many summer buds as possible to see the blooms.. I have had a few drop, some from Golden Lady and a couple from Pink Smitty, but on a whole, they are all adapting well to their Bonnie-made environment. They are very forgiving plants, with a will to live, so I feel confident they will make to spring and a whole exciting new growing year, even if they do stop blooming or growing for now. Karen so happy you have your little hide-away.. sounds warm and secure and peaceful! Beck, hope those GH constructors are working today :)
Bonnie...wish it was for the whole week too..just for the weekend....One of my bad habits...teeheehee
So how do you over winter these??
Do I dig them up and store them like bulbs??
EE's
canna's
crinum lily
lily of the nile
Iris's that aren't hardy in zone 5
Amaryllis' (babies)
Rain Lilies
Anyone??
Ella... I know that upsets you seeing the neighbors animals not being taken care of properly... I would feel the same
Karen... did the woman tell you how NOT to add others stress like it was your own??... lol.. that's my problem, but how do you NOT do it?? Maddy is so precious!!
Bonnie... the men are out there sawing away..yay
Phyllis... even a weekend sounds great.. Arianna is getting so big... just doesn't seem right, she is growing aso fast
Going to see Momma.. BBL
Just poppin in for a sec, we are fixing to leave. Phyllis I don't have to care for bulbs in the winter but I believe you treat the plants you mentioned just like any other bulb.....
I wanted to tell you all that my "bubble brug bag" experiment was a resounding success for me, and my area. No cold or frost damage, plant stalks healthy as could be. The few leaves I left on were damaged by pulling over the bubble wrap, but that didn't bother me as I am through with babying for blooms, etc. with my outdoor ones. They soft green portions with the leafing are all cut off for the winter now. I'm just concerned with the main plant stalk. After two days of cold, I did notice moisture in the bags this morning but the plants seem unaffected as long as I removed the bags quickly to let them dry out in the sun. I will continue this experiment throughout the winter.
Phyllis, I bring my lily of the nile and rain lilies inside in the pots they grew in.. I keep barely watered over winter... I think canna need to be stored in peat or something, I've never been able to winter one over so I'm NO help there, sorry. The ee's, I store some naked on shelves and some dormant in pots and some just alive and watered occasionally, some alive and growing. What kind do you have?
Becky have a good visit w/Momma.. Karen, I'm so glad your bubble bags are working for you.. I think IF I do try it here in my zone next winter, I'll try the bag way w/christmas lights.. will be very interesting experimenting.
Mostly Giant EE's but two different kinds of black ones..I think..their all just babies...
I put some of the EE bulbs in some kinda of packing stuff some lily bulbs camme in along with the
Rain Lilies and Iris's.
Still have some Giant EE's in a pot in my livingroom...and potted up the Lily of the Nile and Canna's and put them in the room with the bruggies...along with the crinums 2 different kinds...and Amaryllis' which all are still growing...
Went out to check on my brugs and except for the "holy" leaves they seem to be doing fine. Hope I can get rid of all thos nasty bugs that seem to love the leaves.
The fires are about 30 miles from me, which in opinion is just too close. Maybe a little ashes mixed with soil can be a good thing. Just thankful that is all I have to contend with now.
No rain in sight and we surely could use it. If I had to take in all my plants for the winter I don't think I would have that many. You do get a little spoiled in this climate. Going to check on my new rooted brugs then on my way to the thrift store to see what they have to offer.
Have a great day all.
Helloo everyone! Back to the healthy here. Except, Phyllis just looking at your pictures gave me the shivers. I am so not ready for any of that white stuff. But we rarely get it, just ice storms. We still have not had a hard frost here yet, so I still have flowers blooming and tomatoes on the vines. JB, if I keep calling you BJ, please forgive me. I just keep getting it backswards. So good to hear from you.
Star, I would call animal control, if you have one near. I hate to see animals mistreated in any way. I know here it can be done anonymous (sp). Beck, anymore pictures on the GH? Come on, I need to feel jealous today. :)) Anjl, what are you making with those bottle caps? Santas, hmmm. We have always had the traditional Thanksgiving meal, turkey, dressing, etc, until after my MIL died and my FIL told me he does NOT like turkey. They were married for 52 years and he never told her! So, now, for Thanksgiving we go pot roast, mashed potatoes, salad, etc. Christmas is ham. But I stock up on turkey while it is on sale and we cook or smoke it year-round. Just not for FIL. :)
Got to get some running around done and then get settled in for some work. I have got to get to the post office this week so will get busy.
Hope everybody has a good Monday, or at least just get it out of the way. The rest of the week is always better. LOL! Peg
LOL, Peg, you are really sweet to change the entire menu just for FIL....I am not as generous, I would do the turkey and dressing thing for myself and everyone else and maybe cook him a little ham or roast to eat with it.
I just got back from the GH and potting up more Brugs...I swear, somebody stop me!!!! I am literally down to no pots to put rooted cuttings in! I have a few 5 gallon pots left, but they are way too big! I can never resist just one more Brug cutting though, LOL!
We stopped and got a roast chicken from Walmart while we were out so no cooking tonight. That pie was all gone by last night, darn it! I would love a slice now. At least I will have extra time to work on ornaments tonight and try and get that finished up. Anjl I would love to see your victorian Santa, I was looking at the other's photos, so pretty!
hello all, sorry I was not in this weekend, was a busy one, and now I am headed for paulines for my wonderful night with her.. I can't wait to see her as I did not see her this weekend.. love to alls and keep loving your brugs.. PS> that is snow and that looks cold up there! PPSS.. those pictures of maddy and grankids are awsome.. PPSSS.. missing all of you.. Debra
I'm running out of pots too. I have only four moss cuttings to put in pots. I have to go to my shed and see if I have that many. Maddy is a cutie.
Bonnie, Maya didn't make it. She turned to mush. I'm sorry. I hated it,
but everybody else is doing just great. My nursery is getting quite large. Pots take up more space than cups. My haight ashbury and Texas star hibiscus are getting bigger. I have four egg tree seedlings, four mg seedlings, a rose of sharon, and camelia cutting, two desert rose seedlings and two surfinia cuttings, besides the brugs. I had to add another small table and adjust the lights. But it will be worth it.
I can't remember if I can put the recipe on the soil of the brug. I spray the leaves and stems every other day. I use miracle grow to fertilize. If I use the recipe do I stop using the miracle grow? That sounds like a stupid question but I ask it anyway.
My cherub (miss G) that just Y'd has 7 buds. I counted them today. Oh I hope they make it. At least I know she is a producer, huh?
I'll be bubble bagging next year. It's good to know it works. Thanks for experimenting Karen.
Is my memory serving me right on the ornaments are we suppose to have them in the mail by the 22nd?
