Ok, I can't resist showing off a lil bit, haha! These are very time consuming to assemble but I can't tell you what a hit they are.
TINY TURKEY DINNER THANKSGIVING
CUPCAKES
baked and frosted cupcakes
plain vanilla or butter cookies with decorative edge (plate)
Brach's Maple Nut Goodies candy, sliced (turkey)
2 T. chocolate chips, plus
1 T. vegetable oil melted (turkey gravy)
white frosting (mashed potatoes)
yellow decorating gel (butter for potatoes)
green non-pareil sprinkles (peas)
orange candy corn pieces (sweet potatoes)
red sugar sprinkles (cranberry sauce)
For each one, spread a layer of yellow frosting on a decorative cookie ( Peek Freans Arrowroot biscuits are great, or vanilla Oreos, halved) and set it atop a baked and frosted cupcake. Add a serving of turkey (thin slices of a Brach's Maple Nut Goodies candy) and gravy (2 tablespoons of chocolate chips melted with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil makes enough to drizzle on 2 dozen cupcakes). For side dishes, serve up some white frosting mashed potatoes topped with yellow decorators' gel butter, green nonpareil peas, sweet potatoes and red sugar crystal cranberry sauce.
She's about to....#37 Brug Addicts Chat/Coffee w/friends
Okay. NOW I'm hungry! LOL
And show off you should!!! those goodies are fabulous : )
Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyones buds survived another day.. it was in the 20's here last night. I dug some bulbs out of pots yesterday after work so whatever is left out there (sweet tater vine bulbs) is surely lost. Mmm good coffee, Star and thanks for the bear claw, Karen! Linda K! Congrats on those almost blooms you have! I think they are so cute with the twangers coming out like that.. I need to get downstairs and rub elbows with my babies, I didn't visit them yesterday so I'll see what I can find to capture on "film" and post pics of.
We always have sage dressing, sometimes I use a mix of white and wheat bread. I don't actually stuff it IN the turkey.. That applesause sausage stuffing sounds yummy! I make candied sweet potatoes, slice them about 1/2 in thick and cover with brown sugary butter and a bit of flour... mmmmm.. and it's not thanksgiving without pumpkin pie and whipped cream.. one year Mom brought cool whip still frozen and it's just wasn't the same.. lol Last year I bought a Marie Calendar's TV Thanksgiving dinner, made a pumpkin pie and spent Thanksgiving all by myself.. I chose it.. I had undivided Bonnie Time (1st t-giving w/out the XBF) and my kids went to their Dad's family.. I haven't decided about this year, I may or may not go to my "superior" sis's... if not, I did buy a turkey and will make the whole dinner like Karen does for my kids. Well, not all that beautiful tiny intricate food, but the taters and gravy and dressing and corn pudding... Karen, your food talent is A-mazing!
Grrr! I only have nine days to get these ornaments done :( and they are NOT cooperating at all! lol!
stained one side, then read directions and have to wait 8 hours to turn over and stain other sides :( then get them all put together and I still need 5 more water bottle caps....so off to drink LOTS of water :o) tee hee!
Wow that looks fabulous.!!!!!!!!
My son wil be back on duty and gone, and so for my thanksgiving I go tme a pumkin pie and a can of whipped cream. I bought two big turkeys and a numebr 10 can of green beans and them down to the valley rescue Mission to feed those in need this year. Gto me a turket Tv dinner and a good book for the day. A whoel day just to read. Gonna lov eit. : )
I always amazed at folsk traditional dishes. Some are the same and lots have different variations. You always see something you haven't heard of before.
Hey Ella! What a nice thing to do...I know it made you feel good. And a pumpkin pie and a can of whipped cream sounds grand to me! Ella I'm like you I'm amazed and enjoy hearing what different families love. My daughters MIL is full blooded German and although she is Americanized, having lived here for about 20 years she still cooks many German dishes along with the dressing and turkey.
Anjl I can't wait to see what the dickens you are gonna do with those water bottle caps, hehe! Better stay close to the bathroom! I'm still cutting out teeny tiny things with magnifying reading glasses and embroidery scissors, grrrrrrrrrrr....Don't ask, LOL!
It is getting so chilly here! The wind is blowing leaves everywhere and feels so cold. Jerry is gone to work, the house is warm and cozy and good movies on tv.

Just checking in everyone! Spent the day in bed with flu symptoms... Grrrr!
Beck, you are getting good with that camera! Beautiful shots. I'll take all the extra brooms and help I can get right now. Rakes, too. Leaves everywhere. My yard looks weird. Trees are leafless, some geraniums still blooming and the EE and Nanas are still green. Not a one of our pecan trees put on nuts this year. Last year, the branches were breaking we had so many pecans. They are predicting 29 again here tonight, but it's fooled them everytime so I am not getting in a tizzy. But there are only a few more things I was thinking about maybe bringing in, the things that HAD to come in are in already.
I'll have to talk later about food, right now, even thinking about it is no good. :(
Hey, where's BJ?? Have we heard from here since she had that reaction to the eucalyptus?
Back to bed for this sickie. Peg
Aw, Peg, so sorry you feel sick today. My yard looks the same way, but no use worrying about raking until the leaves are done falling. My trees (3 pecans) are usually drooping to the ground with nuts, but Ike took down tons of green ones so I have none now. First year in my life I've had to buy nuts for pies!
I'm gonna write JBerger right now! Bonnie asked the same thing this morning.....
Tammie - If you know someone that has Verizon Fios TV - you can access recent shows on demand for free - We have it but don't have a VHS tape recorder anymore
Well I'm going to find out how hardy some of these plants are - I just haven't been up to getting them dug up and potted - I did bring in all the tropical plants in pots - but my Black Pearl Pepper, Persian Shield, Euphorbia are out there --WAH!!
Hey Kittylover! What is your real name, I just can't remember...Is it Esther maybe? Keeping my fingers crossed your babies make it!
I just got through eating a grilled steak and baked potato with sauteed mushrooms, ummmm.....Gonna sit back awhile and work on ornaments and dream of Thanksgiving dinner! Stay warm everybody!
Winds got strong today and had to go out and pick up a yellow NOID that was blown over. So glad it didn't get harmed. Fires are so bad here and getting too close to me. Had to close windows so the burning smell couldn't come in, and there are ashes all over. Got a lot of praying to do that they are put out, been burning since last Thursday night. So many lost their homes, makes you so sick.
I did save a few containers with clear tops to use as seed trays. My new issue of Backyard Living came and a lot of suggestions by readers for ideas I have used like pill containers for storing seeds. I'm learning to look at a lot of recyceable items with a whole new light now. DH thinks I should save them for him to put fishing hooks in, first come first serve. LOL
Just got done with the BD dinner..had a full house....
We had a wine tasting thingas I don't drink i'm a little sleepy...
ThanksGiving I cook a Turkey with stuffing...a Ham (pork shoulder guess it's abt 10 lbs)
Gravy from both... Homemade Mac and Cheese..Mashed Potatoes...Corn.....Deviled eggs usually have a veggy tray with dip...and Pumpkin Cheesecake...My DD doesn't like Pumpkin Pie so we started making this...And a banana cream pie for the DH...We have this same menu for X-mas too...
aw, sorry your sick! sending warm fuzzies and healing prayers your way!
Karen, my fingers are stained I think forever! still need to collect more bottle caps (can only drink sooo much water in a day! and tomorrow I too get to use tiny siccors to cut out tiny shapes.... :o)
did I mention that I HATE that hot glue gun!! ouchie!! lol!
LOL, that's funny Phyllis! Our tradition also is to have the exact same menu for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's what everyone likes, wants, and expects. It is kind of weird because the holidays are so close together and then you don't get the stuff for the rest of the year! I don't know why we don't make dressing during other seasons. I know my mom would sometimes get so hungry for it that she would make a small pan other times. We don't stuff the turkey with ours, just bake it. I think I mentioned before that I cook a whole turkey roaster pan full! And it all gets eaten ^_^
Peg I hope you feel better soon! Well I have pushed my plants as far as I can i think...went outside toninght and smelled the last of the Night Blooming Jasmine.got a whiff of First Belle and Rosamond sigh...going down to the 20's tommorow night.So that's it ~ in the buckets they go down in the basment : ( to make me smile I have sown some noid seeds that were sent to me : ) No way I can grow them all if they germinate so some people will be getting a seedling or two come Spring ; }
Rosamond....
Hey all, I have an awful predicament. My husband threw away the vents that were in the box my greenhouse came in. I can't find any like them on the web. I have e-mailed the e-bay seller to ask who the MFG is. But since they are'nt selling anything right now thay may not respond in forever. I need help figuring out a substitite or find a place that may sell them. It is poly plastic on an aluminum frame so it's not going to hold one of those big roof vents or side shutter things. Does anyone know about tube vents? Or even how to make my own?
I would appreciate any and all ideas.
Thanks. Jeanne
OMG Jeanne...first, where are you gonna bury hubby? ROTF! Not funny but I know you have to be mad at him....Bless your heart....
you need vents because you are running the propane heater, is that right? Does the greenhouse already have holes cut out to put the vents in? Could you use the vent hose like goes to clothes dryers? They are cheap and not heavy....

Oh he feels bad believe me. I could have passed out when he told me what he did. I need the vents to keep the condensation from building up when the sun is out. It needs the cross ventilation. Helps control the temp inside.
you may try your hardware store... we have plastic vents in our pantry.... so maybe just purchase the plastic ones and cut to fit if need be?
as for turkey anytime of the year.... I am ROFLMBO! I just had turkey ($6 each at our grocery last week!) and stuffing and mashed taters and greenbeans and gravy for dinner tonight.... was a bit upset that there was no cranberries...but DH does the cooking and he doesnt care for cranberries! I didnt even miss the punkin pie :o) lol!
okay, its 12:30 am here and I am still sewing for that victorian santa thing tomorrow! one down four more to go! lolol!
nite all!
Good Morning everyone, Help yourselves...I'm putting out waffles and fresh fruit this morning... Log Cabin syrup and hot coffee and orange juice, tea or hot chocolate for those who don't like coffee. Got my mind wondering on mini cut-out things and water cap ornaments.... what could you be making??? I took a day yesterday and lazed around.. so I definately will be playing crafts today. Jeanne, sure hope you find something for your vent problem.. I bet DH feels terrible.. (but he's still cooking, so I'd keep him, lol) Kim love those lines of brug blooms up there! Cold and sunny here..
Thanks for the goodies this morning Aunt B.
Gues s it time to get another day started. freezign out and need to go feed neighbor sdogs and see how his chickens and turkeys fare d last night in the cold. They in NJ on family emergency. Was due back yesterday, but didnt make it and really don;'t expect to see them today either. It a longer journey than what they think.
Hope the birds stil got plenty of food. They got a mean one in there that likes to go after ya.
Got a question, remmebr back a bit I got a huge cutting that was given to me that I had to try and cut down. Well those cuttings, ben in a glass of water longer than some other cuttings and the other cuttings have nubbies. Is this an indicator that the cutting I cut is not goign to root in water and that I should just try stickign it straight into some soil. Or do cuttings a bit fatter tak elonger to get nubbies. The part of the cutting sin the ater with no nubbies is startign to look a brownish shade, don't think that can be good. Not sure.
Wow taters, yoru brugs almost as tall as you. I workign on keeping all my ankle size cuttings alive. Can't wait til I really get them rooted and growing.
Linda Kay you look beautiful in that picture! That's a keeper! I can't believe your baby is that tall!!!! Mine are nowhere near that high...You're gonna be our monster brug grower! LOL!
Hey Bonnie, I'll take a waffle...those are my favorite breakfast! I guess alot of us are working on ornaments now, it's sneaking up on us.
It is 31 here, as predicted. Nice day to be cozy indoors for a change. Ella I had some huge, thick cuttings that nubbied very fast. Size didn't seem to matter. However, I had one group of cuttings where some rooted fast, others took 3 weeks to show nubbies. I would say they all have an "internal" time on when they are going to root, the darker color would not worry me, but I can tell you how to know when it's time to give up and try dirt. When Brug cuttingsthat are rotting are soft and green, the end in water will feel mushy, like spinach. If they are woody cuttings, the outer skin will "slip" off of the wood.
I always wait for signs of rottage before giving up on the water method. At that time, I cut back the rot and go to potting soil. So nice of you to watch neighbors pets....I hope the mean chicken gets pecked back today, HAHAHA! Try barking at him!
Those of you who also got red Brug seeds from Peg, are you going to go ahead and sow yours? I was thinking about trying that this week, need to get some seed soil.
Oh thanks for the pic, LK! You are prettier than any brugmansia bloom! They do take longer to progress from bud to bloom in the cooler weather...... tonight? maybe?? Ella, I'd try the soil, now... but first cut off the brown part, if it is soft and seems rotting, there may be a bad smell even.. some just take longer than others but I would prolly try a different potting medium.
You're welcome Karen.. It would be fun to start them all at the same time, Peg's red brug seeds... guess you're looking for a new project for when the ornaments are done?? lol Peg, hope you're feeling good today!
morning everyone.. mmm smells good//
hope everyone is healthy happy and terrific today.. wow LindaKay that is a great picture and love your baby there.. how proud u must be!
Red Brug seeds? nopes, but I have some others I can start when ya all plant those. ;)
anyone making any Rotel dip " cold style?" I am just wanted to compare recipes..
Morning Deb! I have never made Rotel dip cold? Just the standard hot with other goodies (sausage or hamburger meat, onion) sometimes thrown in....I'd love to hear how you make it!
Hi Debra! Yes, tell us the cold rotel dip... I love it with cheese and meats like Karen mentioned but I'd like a different recipe with Rotel.. I make bacon wrapped cocktail weinies, sprinkle with brown sugar, bake.. everybody loves them.. they take a while to wrap so if you can find a helper it goes faster.
I'll tell ya'll one that's different but my family loves...........Melt cream cheese with a can of Rotel and use Maple flavored sausage....Ummmmm...
Hey HBA's! I just talked to JBerger and she is just fine after her Eucalyptus scare. She is very busy with the tree farm as you can imagine, but will check in with us soon. I am so proud she is not ill. I just don't know how she does it at her age...I can't do half of what she does at 46, LOL!
Oh, I wanted to ask all you ladybugs and menbugs how you would ALL feel about maybe creating a new thread a little sooner, like at 250 maybe, for all of our dial-up friends here? I didn't realize there were so many and I know it is hard for them, especially after 250. Any of us can start a thread and I hope you will all take turns doing it for us....Just an idea I'm throwing out there.....................
This message was edited Nov 16, 2008 9:19 AM
sounds good, start a new thread and I will post the recipe for the cold rotel there..
Deb we're only at 152 right now.....I was just thinking for future threads maybe, but only if everybody agrees....It was just an idea....Why don't you go ahead and post the recipe today if you feel like it and have time. I would love to see it!
Still cutting out teeny tiny things and my eyes will be permanently crossed I'm sure...Ya'll may have to start calling me "cock-eye" after Christmas, haha! I really am having fun though....
Jeanne, Anjl's idea got me to thinking...Do you have a mobile home supply in your area? I know there is one in Tyler. Mobile homes have all sorts of plastic vents, thin tin, etc. Maybe you could use that?

LOl Karen.. here u can borrow my tri-focals.... O^O/ hehe.. okay here is our cold roel recipe, my DH likes his smooth and creamy, me and the kids like it chunky....
(1) 8 oz pkg of cream cheese
(1) reg size can of Rotel chilis and tomatoes ( sometimes I buy generic if it is more thans 5 cents cheaper)
drain licquid from tomatoes, cut up cream cheese into squares and add both to blender, mix on high until smooth and creamy, pour into bowl with lid and chill for two hours before serving..
My sis in law uses an avacado to this one..
for chunky we use the mixer instead of a blender..
I use the licquid from the can as a soup seasoning so I save it in a jar with lid.
DD doubles hers because she eats it with tortillias all the time as a meal..
Poo, had a reply W/pic all ready to go and poof, it went away.. I'll try again, Karen, Thanks for posting about JB, I'm so glad she's doing fine, I don't think I could keep up with her! Go JB!! take a thread break every 30 min our so to rest those pretty eyes.. ;) Yes Debra, can we get the recipe before the new thread??? Was in my "gh" this a.m.. still a faint brug scent down there... Jeanne hope you are finding something that will work.. poor DH, bet he does feel bad. Going to work on ornaments... (chestnuts roasting on an open fire... hmmmhmmhm okay I won't sing carols, I hear them in stores and on the radio all ready..)
Debra I think I'll try it chunky, sounds yummy as a snack or a meal.. food is so great. I was talking about you resting your eyes Karen.. :) now, I'm going I'm going.. glue in hand.
I am posting and reading between cookie time and other small chores... no darling daughters or son home today, waaaa... DH is playing some music while shaving and I'm here with duke, watching the cookies.. will work on my ornaments after the chciken roast and jambalyya is done.. Bonnie dinner looked good at your place the other day.. yummy, love yur brug pics btw..
( Bonnies' appetizers are really yummy, ya'all)
Hello all you sweet sis's and bro's... is a beautiful fall day here
Karen good idea on starting the new thread at 250.... it's kinda slow on us dial ups...
Peg I am soo sorry you aren't feeling good, hope you feel better today
Debra... I bet you really love to cook.. you always sound like you have great meals
Ella... soo nice what you do for other people... I know you must have a heart of gold for your fellow man
Linda Kay... ohh I can't wait for you to see more blooms... looks like she has quite a few!!... and I ain't lying..lol... that pic doesn't do you justice..hehe... you are much prettier in person!!
Bonnie... I too need to get back on those ornaments.. I now know what I am doing... even though ya'll might not can figure it out when you get them..lol
Gotta share this... I was watching a TV preacher from Beaumont this morning before church. He made this statement... " what you speak out of your mouth comes directly from your heart"... never heard it put quite that way before, I found it very moving and profound! Lyle didn't even hear him say it..lol... so maybe it was meant for me.... and then in church it was a toe stomping sermon to be nice to everyone... It's a call from God... just thought I would share...
My friend makes a dip equal parts salsa and sour cream - it is really good
Everything in the yard is covered with ashes from the fires all over. Had to go out and check my 2 large brugs, they are fine now that I've gotten all the ashes off of them. Looks like I have major clean up job, but thankful I'm not in the middle of the fire areas.
Went to brother's 50th wedding anniversay party last night, how everyone kept the secret surprised me. How time marches on.
