The Grapevine is HORRENDOUS to drive anytime of the year!!! Windy as all get out all year long and snows to all beat heck in the winter-HATED that!! It got cold in Fresno, never snow, got chilly in San Jose, only a couple freezes though

The last time it snowed in the valley was in 1976 and all I can remember is what I've seen in pictures. It does freeze all the time, but no humidity so rarely any ice to speak of, unless there's ice on the road from a puddle splash or something. It's been about 6 years since I went to LA. The only bad thing I remember about the Grapevine is the 4 lane interstate is smooth and swoops back and forth and if there are cars around me, which it's usually packed, I get motion sick. I canceled a trip to LA in the winter because there was a blizzard on the Grapevine.

When we traveleed it mving from AZ it was so windy DH had a hard time controllling our car:( And another time we were on it there was a blizzard are were directed WAYYYY out of the way-added like 8 hrs to our trip and an overnight stay:( They closed the grapevine that night-not even chains allowed:(

Has anyone heard from Betty? A bit concerned on this end

Wasn't easy but convinced mom to go to Barrie hospital, much against her will, stepfather tried but no go, finally I just said I wasn't playing games, her health is an issue and opened their van door, sat inside and said let's go Jim...

She wanted to know what she had done so wrong that I wanted to bring her to the hospital, so explained our calls this a.m. - said she made no calls...then she asked me if I came alone or did Bill come with me...ok..now I know something's wrong at this moment, told her that something such as my marital status is something she SHOULD KNOW..she said she was upset and couldn't remember, I asked her why she couldn't remember something such as this and she said she didn't know..Jim said she had asked that same question about 5 times on their way to Barrie...anyway am sure I'm rambling and the little details not necessary...

Outcome, yes she did have a stroke..she fought the Dr. about having a catscan...she was talking although searching for works with her full knowledge..Dr. said because mom was from out of town he would release her providing Jim was there with her tonight and that she would go to the Dr.'s tomorrow a.m. - suggested her Dr. send her to a stroke clinic...

Just spoke to my youngest brother Mike, he and Kim live only about 10 minutes away from mom so they are heading there now...Bernie who is 1 year younger than I to give him updates, Sharon just called, she was worried..she's been in bed and vomiting all day..then called Doug/Kathy (neighbors at the cottage)who left a message on my machine, worried about mom as they saw her just before she left the cottage.....then Kathy said she called Aunt Muriel (mom's sister) to see if she heard anything, of course now she's terribly upset, so I had to call her and calm her down...

What a day!

Am off for supper, bath, early night...craft room will have to wait till early morning..thanks for the prayers, appreciated...

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Betty. Let's hope the stroke did minimal damage. Dad had one about 4 years ag. LIke your Mom he didn't know he had had one until one of the people at the Center noticed his drooping lip. He didn't have any physical problems but he lost much of his long term memory. As people get older that usually remember things in the past better than what happened yesterday, but with Dad it is just the opposite. He has trouble remembering my Mom (died in 1989) or their life together. If you mention something to jog his memory, then he can take it from there, but ask him a question about that time and he can't remember. Doesn't keep him from playing bridge 8 x's a week so didn't affect his mind. It will take time to see just what kind of damage, if any, was caused by the stoke. Keep your head up.

So sorry to hear your mom had a stroke, Miss Betty. I feel the doctor at the hospital would not have released her if he thought she was in danger of another. Maybe that's what they call those mild strokes where the minute blood vessels pop not causing serious problems only confusion that will pass. Let's just pray and hope for the best.

Betty, what a horrible day you have had. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom having a stroke. It is very important she receives threatment tomorrow and gets some type of help, before it happens again and is much worse. I am sure you know that...I am just babbling.

Betty so sorry to hear about your mum....please know that your mother as well as you and all of your family will be in our continued prayers...please get some rest...and in all of the turmoil don't forget to take care of yourself as well and get the ear problem checked out. I know our moms can be difficult to deal with, while it is hard to do I try and myself that I too will be there someday and warn my children to prepare themselves! I'm just working on my Santa pondering if I do the armpits this way or that, and I think the answer is that, thinking of you and pray that there is no permanent damage and the dr. can take care of her properly.

My brother Mike called late last night, said she got home, wasn't feeling well and went straight to bed...so Kim my SIL will arrive early today and make some calls and get her to the doctor..better be safe than sorry....

I put a little food for thought yesterday..said 'you know mom you've been worrying so very much about Aunt Muriel's dog that I think it brought this on...the dog could possibly live longer than you, so enough of this worrying or you won't be here for your family!' she didn't say a thing....the rest was positive conversation..lol

So getting to work, making sure studio is cleaned for students coming today...Darlene is bringing 10 glass blocks, mom is suppose to come and do them this Sat. - let's hope she's up to it...

Had snow on my way in..14 more days to go..aren't I terrible...

Saturday class as I told you had some non sewers, hard to believe how many in the age group just younger than I don't sew..so took them awhile to get the gathering done..

With my painting group, I'm sure they are sewers but need something to entertain me today soooo brought in a box of sewn santa kits to gather..that way, our entire day can be for playing /lunch and shopping ..

Carol, although I'm registered on 'facebook' I know nothing about it at all, how would one play scrabble with another member...I so love scrabble..

Oh/Oh, white stuff blowing outside my window...doesn't Mother Nature know it's suppose to wait another 14 days before starting?

Betty, if you paint your glass blocks, are they OK for outside in the winter? Is it possible to put a "decal" type decoration on it and spray it with something to withstand the winter? I ask this...as I would like to take Mom a Christmas decoration that won't blow away at the cemetary.

Debbie I have painted some for inside but never for outdoor use so can't answer your question..would imagine you get low temps and snow much as we do right?

I'm going to a big greenhouse/christmas store I think on Friday night..I'm looking for something christmas that is run by solar light..and something that won't blow away..will keep my eye out for something like that for you....

Betty, thank you. I would appreciate it. I saw some things on Collections, Inc. but some are kind of tacky.

No snow here yet. But DD Jeanna has a light dusting about 9 miles south of here, and there are horrible snow warnings on TV 6-12 inches in southern tier. That is about 45 minutes from me going south. Not sure if we will get some off Lake Ontario...its always a surprise.

I am playing Scrabble with Sheila..(my friend who I usually swim with.).but she is in New Jersey visiting her daughter right now. Also playing with my sister who is in Myrtle Beach for the winter..good way to keep in touch.
Sometimes it takes forever to play a game as people get busy and forget to go to the game..or if both of the players have time you can sit and play for an hour or so and complete a game in one go.

Suzanne also wants to purchase something Debbie for her dad (my FIL) his burial plot is right next to Roger..they have such unusual things..Urgel (Roger's dad) loved Christmas .. always involved in the cooking and setting up tree and light so she's particular to finding a solar tree..

Last year I purchased a craft book that showed a present done in plastic piping with lights around it..know I can purchase solar lights so just maybe I'll do that up..easy to anchor and can't rust..easy to store...we'll see..know some thing there is still 1 1/2 months left but to me it's on my doorstep..I so like being organized and 'in charge' not where I'm rushing helter skelter..that way I can put my feet up and truly enjoy...

Not so sure I will be heading to Florida on Dec.19th with mom not doing well..we'll have to see...

I got up and realized at 6:30 that the kids dad must have them this weekend, went back to bed, over slept by a half an hour (the longest I could oversleep without seriously messing up the morning), now I'm going back to bed. My throats hurt yesterday and today, it's getting better but still hurts to swallow anything that's not mushy. I had trouble finding something for breakfast, finally decided that I'll just wait and make eggs when I get up.

So funny Olympia Laura lol...guess you get into such a routine with kids that it's hard change your schedule even when they are not home..

so, you are home alone, all warm and toasty in bed and that's where you should be when not feeling the best..you need to take something for that throat! doesn't garggling with salt help???

Hey Crissy, geesh what a bummer on the fabric. But at least you know what went wrong. Hows the second one coming along. Maybe you can save the other fabric to make some thing else with. LOL, that why i always make a practice one first. Laughing at my self because for some reason I had this little table topper quite large so, i have to find smaller decorations..stick and lantern are more for one that is 10 times taller!

Hi Judy...guess getting it all done before Dec.1 is primarily due to the fact that I know what I want to give each and every one of them...

My girlfriend Darlene and Mike are special to me, extremely well to do so for them I'll just go to a nice restaurant on the lake where they live and purchase a meal/wine for them..might be appreciated near Christmas time...mom, was going to go shopping with her in Florida but not sure that will happen now...

Remember Judy, you are getting ready for Thanksgiving, all the to-o's related to it, a big celebration for sure...mine, it's over so time to move on to next celebration..lol

Truth be known, you all either have someone in the home with you, your children/hubby etc. ME I'm just me, lots of time to organize, shop..something to do..also, every lunch hour lately we're off shopping for Christmas Suzanne and I so makes it an easy task..

Today we're going to Vaughan Mills, one of the largest malls and just down the street from work here..Suzanne wants to go to a boutique to pick up something for her daughter..I'll go look at a bedspread and shams for my bed if they have the right color...cross your fingers...

LOL I ditched the fabric, hated that stretchy crap. I took one of the squares that's for the hands and got as close to that fabric as I could, I like it much better. I went to Hancock's Fabrics at lunch, I like that store a lot better than Joann's. More stuff, employees are way more knowledgeable, easier to find threads, etc. Just an all around better experience. I bought this thick thread for the gathering, we'll see how this goes LOL I've never done gathering before.

We're off work tomorrow for Veteran's Day, so there's not a lot going on here.

I'm sure you'll be amazed at the outcome Crissy with the new choice of material...

Only banks and gmt. offices are closed here tomorrow for our Rememberance Day..

They did at one time close the schools and it was expected that the children would attend a service, so when they found it was only seen as a day off to the children they go to school and work on a project/talk about the difficulties these brave men encountered..think it's better...

I worked most of my work life for a Municipality, always had it off so it seems odd to be working...

Bought a 'so soft' blankie to cover the couch so that the kitties and dog, who I know are using it can have comfort..pulling a 'Fran' lol (mom)..you know her and animals...

Didn't see anything I wanted except for a 'Christmas Quilt & Sham set' maybe I'll sneak it in...but OMG they had the loveliest set - 7 pieces...grey/blue mostly with side strips of brown, skirt, 2 different sets of shams and 1 pillow...reg. $350.00 for $150.00 so will call Greg tonight and if it works in their bedroom it will be another gift for her...let's hope it's still there...

Betty, how is your Mother and Sister doing today? Better I hope. I also hope the son, did not take the new van! If he did, they can always place a report for a stolen vehicle.

Actually I missed mom's call when I was on lunch, will call in a bit..was just talking to Sharon..

My she just doesn't learn..having problems with Nikki, daughter, still trying to get Brian out of the house..crying oh wooooh is me..I'm not being unking, but after 3 years of hearing same I just want to throttle her..so when she talks about it I just skip over to another topic..I best learn how to be more appreciative of her dilema and feelings..not a nice sister I am...but gee how many times can I show empathy???

She cleaned for about 10 minutes in the kitchen she said, hadn't slept most of the night so spent the rest in bed..guess her days/nights are all screwed up...

OH meant to tell you about Saturday..

Put Elvis / duet cd on .. not just on but as loud as loud could be as the player is in the den and we were all in the studio..heard bing bang..oh oh, the speakers were so loud that they moved over towards the ledte of the cabinet and off came 3 pieces of my nativity scene...all broken...

So later I'm in the woodworking room trying to find something for Darlene and Mike who were both outside doing some work in my yard (yep they were working and I was inside playing) sure did feel bad..told me not to worry about it...anyway, was looking for something to secure water drainage pipe, ended slamming the door a little too hard...in the little area of the den where the fireplace was, stood a beautiful hand painted santa which I set on the ledge meaning to go back and put a hook...oh/oh fell and split in half...

Not a good afternoon, felt as though I was in a smash em' up derby...know there was a third incident but can't remember what

Well Betty the good news is, they say things come in threes so if there was a third thing, remember it or not, you should be done with it for now.

Was just thinking as that stupid ear is aching that while I sat for so many hours in the hospital I should have registered myself for the earache problem I've been having..but watching people come in for triage with heart pain, broken hip, broken arm, etc etc how could I do so..

Tomorrow I drive in with Suzanne but on Wednesday I drive in myself...I promised myself and am putting it on the calendar that at 9am I'll call the Dr.'s office for walk -in clinic (not really a walk-in - it's a group of local doctors who take turns and only deal with minor issues...so off I go to key in 9:00 am call DOCTOR! in the meantime I deserve to suffer..lol
