Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #67 visit with friends...
WELL!!!! This time I am first!!!! Nahh...Nahh.....
Just wanted to do that.............................Gita
Betty, no just proves you aren’t a true geek. Filk is folk music about books, movies, tv shows or other “geek” pursuits.
dragonfly62, that’s a beautiful picture.
Crissy, love the photo's...oh my you and Dave (sweetie)are just young ones..lol..how much fun is that, to have your entire life still ahead of you...that's ok, I'll live through your adventures ok...Love the costumes and especially the house in the hills..talk about not having neighbors..
Ah Laura, that will be 'what did you learn today' for me...listen to my kids and grandchildren and sometimes I haven't a clue as to what they are talking about but guess if I were to meet up and talk about the good old days it would be the same for them.
It's early morning here, doing some sewing in my new flannel nightie, must shortly get dressed and brave yet another day..they are getting less and less..
OK-so is that list supposed to be for now or when we met our DH or what-I am confuddled-sorry-trying to catch up-kinda just skimmed...
Morning all,
Nice to meet you Crissy..always good to see a photo. Happy belated birthday
Lovely photos..I wonder who lives in that house?
Bev your photo of the quarter moon was great.
Zhinu..I just looked up Filk..there is a Filkontario gathering in April 2009 here..
Thanks for explaining..and yes Betty..we learned something new today.
We are having unusual high temps for a few days here..
So nice...
Laura, I didn't know what Filk was either. I'm in awe of the wealth of knowledge you have sister! Yep, I learned a new word today as well!
Crissy, you and Dave got the mid 60's peace and love flower child's costume now pat. If I didn't know better, I'd think you just came from Woodstock. The Canyon photos are such a serene and pristene site. Aren't we all thankful Congress voted to preserve these miles of acres for future generations.
Good morning, Betty, Carol and Staceypoo!
Morning, feel so bad, in my hurry this morning I forgot to tell Vicki I've said a special prayer for her sister who will have her operation today...Vicki let us know please how things have gone....bet you are frantic...
Judy, how is your sister doing, have you been in contact with her or family?
As for mine, as I said she's home, mostly in bed resting, glad to have hands on with her family..talked briefly yesterday..said she was sooo cold, think it's the coming off morphine..can you get addicted in 1month of having to take it? wouldn't that be something, go in unable to move and come back out addicted...
Gita, yes, you were the early bird on the thread...have your hours changed? What you doing to fill in your time...
Stacey, I'm so laughing twice I must not have explained that list...it was for YOU to fill in what you think you know about ME...lol...then I would try to fill it out taking info from posts to see how much I've learnt about you...
How's the job going? yukky??? Know you are crafting up a storm, care to share what the projects are..know you can't if they are for your mom OR swaps..lol...but just maybe a hint...
Carol, can you believe the weather, will be in the 20's today, what's that 70 degrees? We could have almost left our treasures out in the garden for a few more weeks...guess you've a busy day today..How is Art and Heather doing? Wow, Filkontario, must go check that out...where will it be held? maybe you and I can meet and attend...
Deborah, did the costumes remind you of any you wore? lol...I do remember paisley, but living more in the country I wasn't that hip? will have to go back in time and try and figure out what my most hip outfit would have been through the various fashion changes..lol...now I bet you are sewing for Christmas Deborah, want to share your projects as well? I love getting ideas...it's coming you know...
What would your most "in" outfit be girls through these past decades...oh would that pin point our ages????
Suzanne and I are counting the Fridays left in the city this morning..only 4..this Friday I drive in myself so will go to Ganz and pick up Christmas gifts for friends...then the Friday thereafter we're going to the chocolate factory, mens clothing manufacturers' and Samko toys..that should do more of the Christmas list then on the 24th I'd love to go to Ezzewear to pick up a few outfits for me before I move...then the 31st. who know, we'll have to do something to celebrate the last ride from the city...so weeks are planned, before you know it, ahhhh we'll be singing Jingle Bells....
Have any of you started shopping for Christmas..I guess you try to get through Thanksgiving first..omg it's so close to Christmas..how do you handle having such big celebrations back to back? Does you family get together for both or just one...
I was contacted by a recruiter, so I have all my info into them and hopefully it will lead someplace good:)
Yes-crafting up a storm-I will dmail you some pics-a lot of them are pressies for peeps here, so I can't publically show them
I will have to go back to the other thread and get that list to see about you;)
My hip dress of the 60's (just a teenage y'all understand LOL) was bell bottom jeans with studs, peace signs, I was not a flower child though. Those were the older college age kids. Then in the 70's I wore a lot of polyster pant and jump suits with scarves around my neck. In fact, when we went to see Elvis at the Macon coliseum, that's what I wore and the policeman shook his billy-stick at me and my friend becuase we touched Elivis's shoes at the stage. He didn't throw me one of his scarves. Boo Hoo. :0(
Are you all having trouble posting..yuk..
Deborah sure hope you haven't washed your hands..imagine, touching the king...my God he lives on doesn't he..I have grandchildren that try to imitate him, always saying 'thank you, thank you very much'..lol - wonder how many more generations he'll touch?
Stacey sure do hope that something comes re job..better hours, maybe even no weekends...what's Janice up to, haven't seen her around...hope she's ok...
Had posted that I went through a phase wearing 'Ben Casey' shirt and black slacks...take them off only to wash and right back on...other than that, it was slinky jump suits..lordy don't think I weighed more than 95 lbs soaken wet...doubt one of my legs would fit it the entire suit now...time for diet and fitness program I'd say...lol
Question of the day:
To get one of these from an American, you now have to spend about $10 each! What is it?
Good morning!!
Vicky, Been praying for Linda and you today as well.
You have had some beautiful weather this week. I hope that you have been able to enjoy time outside.
Waving Hello to Wonderhug, How are you oing these days? have you been quilting.
What are you up to? How is work going? Come out and play, havent see post in a couple of days again...
And LIZZZZ, where are you too. geesh, been lost without my phone, and now it's charging...sigh again.
Oh Crissy, what spectacular views. Takes my breath away and I just am in awe of such views. I can just sit and watch that for hours and hours...you sure hit the peak.
Gita, hehehe, you are so cute! glad you were first in line. Hope you are well and enjoying the fall season.
Debrorah, how groovey! You got to see the King and have a tale to tell.
Well, i think the only time i dressed in fashion was when i was a kid, Remember sizzlers? Lets see oh and We wore Bells when i was a teenager too. LOL, I still wear bells, just not as wide. I am not one to dress in the times at the time.
I enjoyed a beautiful evening next to a fire last night. Sat in my chair and watched flames dance. What a splendid night weather wise. I thought of everyone. Steve come out to join me, and we had a really nice visit, chatting about lots of different things. Was nice to see him actually relax too. We walked around the deck and crunching leaves! It was fun to hear the wrestling, kind of makes you feel like a kid.
We enjoyed a bbq and then I went back out and enjoyed my fire again. Breenie came out to for just a few minutes.
Betty, No I haven't been able to talk to sister again...keep getting busy signal.
But we are all ok with no call is good. Will continue trying.
Oh My i think i have recruited another friend to make a V. Santa!! Not to worry Betty, I have enough. This should be lots of fun.
Ok wow, I am getting a project so got prepare.
Enjoy the kiss of the Sun! Another glorious day.
Ok Betty,did the survey!
What was happening in our lives when we met...? You Betty, were having some work done on your house. I believe it was the addition of your craft room. Also you were starting your garden and that was how you came to DG.
Do I drink? No alcohol…(unless you count the time you took the ladies on the trip to new Orleans.) hahaha, what a funny story. Other than that you drink Coke or Pespsi and little to no water.
Do I smoke? No
Color of my eyes? Blue
Do I have any siblings? You have a sister and your cousins whom you were raised with became your siblings.
What's one of my favorite things to do? Painting, crafting.
What's my favorite type of music? Oh gosh, Not sure…Older music.
Am I shy or outgoing? You are outgoing.
Am I a rebel or do I follow the rules? I think you are one that beats to your own drum most of the time following the rules.
Any special talents? You are an incredible artist and love to share with others.
How many children do I have? 2 boys and four grandsons
If you and I were stranded on a desert island, what is one thing that I would bring?
LOL, a cook!
What kind of things annoy me? People being distrespectful…
You've got me so down to a 't' Judy...amazing...you get A+ for paying attention..
Yes I have a sister Sharon and 2 brothers Michael and Bernie none of whom I was raised with..so Linda, Larry and Brenda are truly my sibblings at heart..my Aunts whom I was raised with were considered my sibblings...all 6 of them..all gone to their resting place except one...
Eyes, Hazel..
Love Country and Western, however due to a lot of heart ache and trauma I turn it off now, rarely listen to music unless it's Christmas and only certain Christmas songs..
smilling from ear to ear, yep you know I DO NOT COOK when Roger died my cook died soooo that certainly would be the person I'd take with me and try to smuggle in some crafts supplies or no, knowing me I'd find something on the island to be creative with..
You, my dear Judy totally amazed me...
ooops forgot to mention, talked to my darling mother this morning...
She said her sister Muriel was coming to visit on the 20th..they have an appt. at a top institution where they teach vets to have a look at the dogs eyes..sooo I said, 'so Aunt Muriel is going through with it?' she says, 'of course' I said 'lots of money for her isn't it' she says 'she doesn't have the money-she'll make $300.00 a month payment on it' I say, 'so you are going to put up the money' she says, so laughing, we'll your sister won't...
girls are here it's my lunch time, will have to continue this when I come back from lunch..off to costco...am sure there will be a christmas decoration I'll want...
Stacey/Janice, guess what, I put up the lovely wreath I purchased in Frankenmuth up this a.m.
got to go
back from lunch..not without a prettie though...vintage Santa, little girl and boy..so cute..santa is about 16" high, children probably 10" then, then the new Elvis CD..done duets with Martina McBride, LeeAnn Rhymes..etc. etc. - should go get several more for gifts...
So back to my story,
Geee I'm the only one here, ahhhh
will do it later if I have time tonight...
Can't wait to see a piuc of the wreath at night Betty!!
No, you are not, Betty! I read everything on both Posts several times a day! I am "with you" all in my heart--even though I don't have much to yak about.....you know me!
SO! Let me take some guesses on your question. If nothing else--it will be amusing.....

--A 30 day supply of "Immodium"?
--A box of Kleenex?--NOT to be easily found in Europe!

??????????????????????????? I give up!
Gita
Just love your sense of humour Gita...I won't get the answer till later today...
Another half hour and homeward bound...know you are there, I can sense you shaking your head at me from time to time..lol
Stacey I hung it up but with it being silver foil type substance it probably won't sparkle until the flashing snowflake lights are up...
Saw a 5' snowman made of metal and lights and thought I might go back and pick it up this week but something made me think twice about it..been reading some hardships of others and am thinking omg I'm wasteful..almost embarrassingly so..when so many don't even have food...have to re-assess my life and what's important I guess...
Howdy to everyone - Gosh, a person misses a few days here and there and it really puts them behind on the goings ons.
Bev, thank you so much for sharing with us about your family members. It is usually you doing the ministering to others, it is your turn now. If I hadn't had these rooms to come to during the past few years, I don't know where I would be emotionally. I went through some unexpected health issues for a couple of years and if I hadn't felt that I could share openly on some of these forums, I would have truly missed the opportunity to get to know some very special women. There was a group that walked with me day by uncertain day. It took some doing, but most of the issues that I had a couple of years ago have now become like my second skin and I no longer am fearful about them.
I do not claim to know about or have any suggestions on how to deal with other's mental health issues. I know that it has to be really tough to see your loved ones suffer, especially when treatment is available to help. Hopefully a day will come when you don't have to worry so much about your loved ones. I know that in the past when I have had heavy issues on my mind I have used a Bible with a Concordance to look things up and see what the Lord has to say about them. A concordance should name just about any emotion or ill that we can think of and it will refer you to passages that may be able to comfort you.
I guess that now is a good reminder for me. Way back when my children were small and I had to send them to their dad's houses for visitation, I would worry the whole time. I finally got out a Bible one day to see what was said about children and I was referred to the story of Hannah, who was barren for many, many years. After many years and much prayer she finally conceived. Her prayer then became, "For this child I did pray and my pleas were heard. For as long as this child shall live, I give him back to you the Father." What better hands can we leave our children than the Lord's? There are none better.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share with us. I hope that you can soon find something to ease your mind some. I have one more suggestion and then close. It is really late for me to be on here. I have usually cut this machine off way before now.
There is a program for people whose loved ones are alcoholics. You didn't mention alcohol use here, but I thought that I would throw this out anyway. The Al Anon program teaches a person to take care of themselves first and foremost so that they will be better equipped to deal with their loved ones problems. They emphasize how important it is for us not to be drawn in and down along with those who are suffering. You might want to look up Al Anon on the Internet and see if there is any part of their philosophy that you could begin incorporating in to your day.
I wish that I had a magic wand to help you out with this. You are a vital member of this group and we don't like to see our sisters hurting. Take care Bev. You are loved.
Ruby
evening all, prayers to betty, vicki, and judy for your sisters
hi ruby
betty thank you got the package today now to get on it lol
will be back in the morning
How wonderful Ruby to read your post, brought tears to my eyes...somehow we've all been led to DG for the compassion and love of those guided to visit with us...
It serves for each of us a void wether we believe that or not that is not solely attached to gardening or crafts, it fills a void of feeling special, needed, friendship, sisterhood...all bound by these keys...
It's so nice to come throughout the day and know that friends are waiting to hold our hand, to offer support and sometimes help us get through the most difficult of days...
Know that each and everyone of you are special and loved...
Today has been a difficult day for me, a sadness within..we all have those days and I realize why...although the years have gone by, too many to count, it is as though it was only yesterday that I lost a loved one, Christmas is coming then followed by New Years and I start reliving all the memories that should have long been set aside, life goes on, but as you know our minds are masters of our thoughts .. hurt and pain remains...
Then today I heard on the news that the body of a local boy-15 who had been missing for 3 weeks was found..my heart just aches for those poor parents..
Then reading of friends who are living each day through such turmoil, fighting to survive without necessities and I realize that I take for granted what the good Lord has provided...
Time to wake up and help others...it's not always about me/me/me...
That's just the kind of day I've had...
Tonight the girls came to paint, finally talked Shawnee into returning as she's been so worried about her daughteer 28 who has a heart ailment...she was here no more than 1 hr. when the call came that her daughter Shannon was having trouble breathing...so off she and Rita went ..so waiting for the call to come in as to how Shannon is doing..
Best thing that happened to me today...picked up Elvis' new duet trio just out...such beautiful chritmas songs..going back for 3 more tomorrow as they will make excellent gifts..both Suzanne and I sang carols all the way home..
Worse thing..doom and gloom feeling..memories, worried about family and friends..
What did I learn today...that I'm smart enough to know speaking my mind with my mom will not change anything so being tackfull although wrong will keep peace in the family...
time for bed...
night everyone
p.s. Liz I'm so glad you'll be back tomorrow..glad you got the kit..Laura sending prayers and hugs...please post as well...
Just got a call from Rita..they called 911 .. got her to the hospital and her heart beat is fluctuating between 200 and 201..PLEASE add Shannon to your prayers...Shawnee just lost her husband..don't know how she could deal with the possible death of her daughter...
Much appreciated...
LOL Betty, you're so funny we're not that young, I just turned 36 and Dave's 47, and no we don't mind saying our ages lol! Dave always says that my glasses cover my face, but I look really young in that picture because of them, they hid my crows feet! LOL!
That's hilarious Deborah, I'm with Betty, I really hope you haven't washed your hand! I was 4 when he died, so I pretty much missed it. My dad's an Elvis Impersonator. He doesn't do it anymore, but he has 3 jumpsuits and the shoes and all. If he dies his hair it totally works! He started doing that because a. he retired and b. he never shaved his sideburns off after they went out of style in the late 70's or early 80's and has a full head of Elvis-like hair that was the perfect color before it started going white, plus the right type of glasses. Everyone just started calling him Elvis out of the blue, so he decided "what the heck!" It was a very interesting time in my life.
Gita you are entirely too funny girl! Love it!
I'm praying for everyone's family members who are in pain, you are all in my thoughts.
OMG Betty, I'm adding Shannon to my T&P!
Dearest Betty,
..You are so loved by many people, here on Daves...So many enjoy, can't wait even to hear from you because you are such a powerful, loving presence...
Please know, I think that everyone is holding, huggng and feel your pain as well. The memories you share help us to understand that even you are sad at times...and yet you think always how others are.
...I am so sadened to hear the outcome of the lost boy in your area.
Also for Shannon and family. They will remain in my thoughts and prayes too.
You, Betty are a gift to all you touch, however you do it...My friend, Keep spreading the love.
You are our gift.
It is with a giant hug to you. I remember when we embrased, let it be tenfold tonight.
With Love
Judy
...
coooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
turn my back for a couple of days and POOF!! your all gone... so many on here now that it takes me ages to catch up!
goodness... thnking of u betty for sure
.
Your all so busy with christmas and all.. no parcel yet seed sorry!
feeling not to bad these days.. seem to be getting better slowly. Just recently diagnpsed as bipolar.. so at least we have a name for it
It type two which potentially is curable and certainly controllable and perfectly understandable considering what i have been through, so.. on our way.
all the family is doing well and we are slowly getting on our feet. fulltime work is really taking it out of me and so very tired when i get home....
sorry im not on as much but i am sure i will adjust..
hugs to you all
xx
It's early morning and no call from Judy or Rita - am hoping she's more stable...when Shawnee left she could barely walk, said her legs gave out and she was just sobbing, terrified..all I kept thinking is the day she was painting here she got a call from her hubby saying he wasn't well and was going to the Dr.'s..several hours later he had passed on, then to get this call..well you know what I was thinking as I'm sure she was as well...
Am driving in this morning..seems the power steering in Suzanne's new car is acting up, she was coming over last night to work on her 15 (lol) Victorian Santa's - at least the start of them but couldn't..had the neighbor check, they filled the unit and all the oil came out, so, if I'm not too tired I'll go to Ganz, Michaels, Walmart tonight, make a late night of it and then tomorrow when I get off at 1:00 it will be homeward bound...I like leaving extra early the mornings I drive but must wait until just after 7:00 to make sure Suzanne has dealt with dealership and they are giving her transportation otherwise I'll have to pick her up, she'll have to take my car at 2:00 because she has a Dr.'s appt. in Barrie and I'll get to come home with my nieces...
Guess one could say everything is under control...for now!
Best get moving..would love to do another VS outfit out of Suzanne's pile before leaving..
Crissy I would never have guessed you both for being that age...my 2 boys will shortly turn 40 and I think they are 'young' but that's because they are my babes...
Does certainly sound like you've had an interesting life for sure...how much fun your dad must have...my dad, bless his soul, always had a 'brushcut' as long as I can remember...and he had a stripe about 1" wide almost directly through the center..I always thought as a young one that I would have dyed my hair if I were he as he looked like a 'skunk' to me..lol
Sharon my sister has a 3" area on the side of her hair line that has always been white as well..when everyone else was dying their hair for streaks, she already had hers...
Well again I've rambled long enough...best be getting organized...must make my 'to do' list..
Laura, you've just made my day sweetie..you've been in my thoughts and prayers...
Knowing what is wrong is half the battle isn't it? There are meds that I'm sure once you start taking will make you feel so much better...it's been a long rough road for you.... Are you still doing the same job or when you've been off so long have they given you another position..which ever I hope the supervisor understands just how ill you've been ..
Glad the family are doing well..
Parcels...OMG don't know what happens to them..all eventually get there but it does take forever and a day doesn't it...
Looking so forward when you are able to visit more..
All miss you..
Aw Betty-I will keep them in my thoughts...
You are a wonderful lady and if a snowman makes you happy, then so be it...or you could be like me and got the day after Xmas and if it is there for 50% off then it MUST have been meant for me;) I do that with most holidays...you too have suffered in your life, so keep that in mind my dear. I also think of others, but then again realize that if I spend some $$ on me once in a while it is not a crime and I should NOT feel badly about it...
God Bless you Ruby. Your post helps so much and Betty I will be praying for you loved ones. I pray for all of you on here everyday. Winter time is the hardest for me so always have to find something to. I hate it when I get cabin fever. You all are helping me keep my head above water in this big river of depression. I will write more later. Scotty wants his breakfast and have to get Rick off to work. LOVE & HUGS BEV
