Which one Marion? I'd like the link.
And what is this about ironing when sewing? Y'all FORGOT TO TELL ME I GOTTA IRON!
LOL Ironing funny that was a topic of conversation Sunday at breakfast. The bride has an iron but no idea where it is she just told Shelly it was there in the apartment some place when Shelly asked so she would know when she needed to use it LOL
Okay more information coming your way Deborah. Yeap, unfortunately you press went sewing and quilting. To press requires an iron!! Gasp, gasp!!!! Let me locate you personal email and you, too, will get some goodies!!
http://www.fabshophop.com/grandPrizeSponsors_qhop18.asp
Marion, there is a contest also that starts on the 15th.....
When sewing things like quilt squares, it makes them lay better, if you press the seams open. preferrable iron them towards the darker fabric if you have 2 different colors, but if they are like colors, I press them open flat.
Hope I said that right
LK
Deborah, Jaye anyone interested that is the link and signing up is free. Really good info comes from that site.
Guess I need to start registering every site I visit Linda Kay. Thanks hadn't noticed.
Ironing, I was taught (doesn't necessarily make it right or wrong) to always press to the dark side--rarely press open. But things have changed in the last 100 years.
LOL. I'm still clueless. Marion, I'll have my iron on when you get here so you can show me.
Good morning Sistah's!!
Yes, Bj, was wonderful to get to know you and all too.
isnt' it fun to reminice...I am glad you all have good memories of learning to craft, sew and knit...well, good the thing your braid thingy didn't burn too badly. Hmm learned something new too.
Laura...You did a beautiful costume. and oh, oh...I had to look up ribbon embroidery! wow, it is splendid.
Lida Kay, Hello! Wow, it is so neat you do wood working. LOL, one would think I could use those tools, but DH won't allow me to play with them by myself! I do have my own nail gun! it's one of those smaller ones, heheh, more my size. I had a sander but someone borrowed it and broke it. Was a palm sander, I love it. So i hope you get one for christmas, I like the belt sanders too!
Ok well i am at the office and i can share my hug now.
This first one is the front completed.
What a sweet sewing embrace!
ROFL!!! ChatterSistahs!!
PRESS don't slide nor glide your pieces, Deborah. You don't want to stretch your fabric that it will distort them and all that accurate sewing will be for nought!! Marion, hurry over to Deborah's will ya! So next time I use the expression.. "back to my Rowenta".. you know what I'll be doing!! Oooh so glad to have you back Sistah. The day I met you online, I never thought it will be a start to a great sistahood!!
And that includes all of you too!!
I don't know you can manipulate raffia that way, BJ. Don't look too bad.. Learnt something new everyday.
So we have 3 sistahs that do woodwork, Phyllis, LK and Joey. Think I'll stick to crafts not requiring the use of a skilsaw!!
I've changed my email addy and it's jaye.buffkin@gmail.com
Welcome to drop any special notices in that mailbox, and yes especially sales notice :D
BBL
EWWW-ironing-I think I'd rather scrub the toilet with my own toothbrush!!
BJ-please may I have instructions for the raffia-I have some colored raffia I'd like to do that to:)
hahahah, yuk Fairy! Some ironing not so bad.
oh my gosh, i am a nut for gadgets, I saw the tiniest iron at Joannes. Appenrently for quilting but took every oz of control not to buy it...LOL.
Now, Do you play any instruments? My eldest daughter did the same thing, bang on pots and pans and used the tops for symbols, OH my gosh, sometimes didn't thinK i'd make it...But today she is an excellent musician, plays a number of instruments.
How nice of your friend to embroider a towel for you...Sounds like you love to decorate for all seasons, which I think is just so nice.
mm okay girls details on this fabshophop thing how do ya find the places that are participating????
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww, I would soon scrub the toilets than to iron but NOT with my Toofy brush. When I was single and struttin it, I sent my laundry out to be pressed. Dang it caught a man now I dont do it any more.
the what Mibus2?
it is the website LK posted above and he fab shop hop contest they have going on ...but I found my answer LOL
Contest starts the 15th.
LK
WOW them babies are not for the weak hearted. WOW 3k!!!!!!!!!! WOW I want one.
I'm having a hard time keeping up with you chatty people!
I wanted to pop in and say my thoughts and prayers are with you, Cindy, Tina and Judy. Even though all of you have different problems, please know we're here for hugs and shoulders whenever you need us!
dang some one wake me up ...this is crazy I feel so tired and I slept good last night and have not eaten a bunch of heavy food just cheese and crackers and tom soup for lunch and I still have to drive pm routes...LOL...
Be careful Phyllis. Sleepy driving is not good! Go and get a soda or a coffee!!!
LK
Phyllis it must be the weather or time of year. I am so sleepy I can hardly function. Then if I given in and take a nap then I won't sleep tonight. What a cycle. The site Linda Kay posted, if you sign up, sends emails when shops in the quilting shop hop group post specials, etc. I have enjoyed being a subscriber to that link. Just more trouble for everyone to get into.
Hello Joyce. I finally located the parking lot again. It had been dropped from my threads. Why does that happen? Then I saw where it was still going and tracked it down today. Playing Sherlock Holmes here. Details about your weekend please!!!
Where is Kathy. I am worried about her. Have you spoke to her and is she okay?
Marion, they still do it the way they did 100 years ago. lol! One of my new quilt books has very specific information on pressing seams and it says to press to one side and usually press toward the dark fabric. It also said the side the seam is pressed toward will be raised, thus slightly shorter than the other side - and when you only start with a 1/4" seam to begin with ........ it can make a difference. I'm learning soooooo much!
GUESS WHO IS A NEW OWNER OF A HUSQVARNA VIKING TOPAZ 30 SEWING/EMBROIDERY MACHINE???????!!!!!!!!!! ME! Never dreamed I'd have such a nice machine. Still don't know why DH never agreed to drapery for the dining room but didn't flinch at a sewing maching that costs the same amount. go figure!
They let me have it at their sale price a week early since I was there test driving it today. They took a little off the MSRP and threw in an extra embroidery hoop. Went ahead and got a quilter's accessory kit so I can be using it - all accessories are 20% off the first year I own the machine. Yippee! The kit includes a walking foot (dual feeder) with sides arms to guide the seam, a free form quilting foot, and a foot with a 1/4" guide. I'm so excited! Off to watch the DVD then set up the machine and play!

Aloha Joyce... wait.. you were in Minnesotta right.. wrong state :D
Hi Joyce!! How was your getaway? Need to see pics, pics, pics if you have them.
I wrote a novella and it disappeared... just those top lines showed up! Hmm..
Congratulations Debra.. have fun with your new toy!
Sis Kathy is doing better Marion, she and I had a good laugh over the phone, and you all know her. Rest is a four letter word to her!!
Thanks Marion, I signed up as well, hoping to get lucky!
No pictures, Jaye...sorry. We shopped till we dropped!
Debra, congrats on the new toy!!! Now you know we all expect something personalized! LOL
Enjoy the machine. You deserve it!
Linda Kay
Jaye, mom can also do wood work, she just hasn’t in years, but some of her stuff was incredible; I used to know how to use woodworking tools, but that was back in high school, I probably still remember but… I’ve wanted to make some handmade cabinets for awhile, but that’s on my “one day” list. If we ever get the money so DH can start messing around with making custom guitars I might get around to doing some type of woodworking.
Judy, the 2 year old I watch I’d bet is going to me musically talented; he’s already plays DH’s guitar and keyboard as well as Sage. He also dances a lot. I had to listen to the Scooby Doo theme song for about 30 min. straight one day and he rocks out when DH plays for him; basically anytime there is music around. He also throws fits if his mom tries to play certain songs around him, so he’s a critic too.
Debra, well you can do more with a sewing machine than drapes.
LOL, Laura! Looks like I'll be making my own drapes!
Clapping hands for you Debra!! I hope you will enjoy that new toy Tremendously!
Phylis, yep I bet it the weather/time change and just plain getting over your cold...Hope you feel and up real soon.
Hiya Joyce, so nice to see you. Thank you.
Laura, how cute...Yep he might just be musically talented, seems they do start at a very early age. LOL, my girl used to sing conversations. Just keep fostering his talent.
Well, my day is over and I've some more running around tonight...So you all have a great evening.
Jaye are you feeling better? And Fairy too, I know you had a sinus headache hope it's gone now.
K.O. see you later.
Good investment there too Debra. You'll be setting up a cottage industry in your kitchen soon!!!
Some of us now can "sew" vicariously through you! Lol!!
Phyllis, report back here the minute you get home! I'll be worried stiff about you being sleepy on the road.
Wow, what else can your mum NOT do, Laura? Kel loves to explain what he's doing.. unfortunately, I can't use some of his tools.. got short fingers especially for those that you have to press two buttons simultaneously :D
Thanks Judy dahlin'. I'm feeling much better, just must learn not to think I'm still YOUNG and fit.. There are some things I can't do now. Like moving furniture!
Oh Debra, I hope you can see my huge grin for you!!! I am so happy you got the machine--welcome to the wonderful world of do everything machines now!!! I guess I am not such a bad enabler after all. Pssst: Ladybugs here please!!! LOL
glad to hear Kathy is doing better. I knew something must be wrong for her not posting. I miss her.
Jaye--no more moving furniture or I will appear at your door and kidnap you!!! Then youz and mez can just sit and sew!!
Got to go check dinner! The time is killing me hopefully tomorrow will be better.
I am so glad that Kathy is doing better!!
I got home and had a package from LK-thought "ok-some lotion and bath stuff-NOPE-it is a FAIRY FART BOTTLE like the ones we saw online during the swap-gotta go take a pic!!! It is too cute!!
I did get something real cool at Target today-it is a frankenstein like the one that Deb's mug is, holding a bowl of candy that days fun stuff when you hit his buttin!!LOL
Hiya Joyce!!
Debra-no clue, but CONGRATS-I am guessing it is a good one!!
Stacey, hope you like the fairy fart jar. I have had it sitting on my table for awhile, and found it under some fabric when I moved things around. Sorry it's late!
LK
Debra, exactly, why buy drapes when you can spend a little more and make them and other things; are you sure your DH isn’t a crafter; it seems like that is the crafters motto if I ever heard one?
If there is something that mom can't do, if giving the right equipment, I haven't found it. There are a few things she hasn't done, like tatting, and a few she doesn't do, like counted stitch embroidery, and there are defiantly things she does better than others, but I can't think of anything she's decided she was going to do that she's failed at.
Sisters, I'm drained. and not from the excitement over the new sewing machine. We have to find a home for Woody. I started a thread. If you know anyone who can provide him the kind of home he needs and will love him the way he deserves to be loved, please pass this information to them. I'll be glad to provide them any other info they need.
I'm so emotionally stressed right now. Between the stress and grieving over having to give him up, I'm a mess right now. Hope to be better company tomorrow.

*sigh*... there's just been way too much happen since I left this morning... sheesh... so, if I miss answering anyone here... please, forgive me.
Stacey... if you want to curl raffia, wrap your raffia around a long rod, I secure each end with a bull dog clip ... then lay that rod across a pan... I used a dutch oven ... put some water in the pot or pan... and put it in the oven... turn your oven on 350 degrees... after the oven heats, let it steam about 10 minutes (not 3 hours like I did)... then turn your oven off, and leave the pan in the oven till it cools... your raffia should be curled... just unsecure the ends, and slip it off the rod...
Debra .... YIPPIE !!!! I'm soooo proud for you with your new machine...
and Debra, I'm so sorry about your puppy... I know your going to miss him. What a roller coaster day you're having today...
YEP... Trisha wins the Superwoman Prize... for sure...
Ok, now, I learned something today that upsets me... Son and I took the copy of the check and the affidavit he got from the bank to the sheriff's office today... they tell me that the woman that stole his check and cashed it is a repeat offender (quote: "on the frequent flier plan at the jail"). She has also stole another check, and maybe more since she stole my son's. I asked them why they hadn't arrested her yet, and they said that they don't have an ivestigator assigned to it yet.... IT'S BEEN TWO WEEKS"... but, that's not what's upset me so much. It seems that it doesn't matter how many checks she steals, re writes, and cashes... she'll be tried ONCE for them all... and will only serve ONE term for all of them... she can be charged and convicted with each of them, but her jail terms will run concurrent... so, she will only do like 30 days... that just doesn't seem fair... I think she should pay with jail time for each individually... especially since she's a "frequent flier"... aka, repeat offender.
