Very sorry to hear about your Uncle, Phyllis. Losses are so hard. I will keep you in my prayers. 33 again tonight, then in the 60's tomorrow....Love that East Texas weather! I have decided not to wrap and unwrap my brugs repeatedly though...If this is going to work for me, it HAS to work within the environment I live in, and that is wildly fluctuating winter temperatures. If it doesn't I will lose 4 plants, but I have to live with that to experiment. Fortunately they are NOID and very common Brugs so would be easy to replace.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning everybody!!!!!!!!!!! : )

Yep, it mornign to me as I have been up and gone since early this morning and haven't had breakfast , lunch or supper yet and til I do it still mornign to me.

Today was a good day. was talking to a friend about one plant and it triggered in my mind where I knew three brugs were and with the cold last night and the freezing and frost temps high 20's tonight figured the plants would be toast in the morning.

So I took a break and asked and went and took as many cuttings as I could. I probbaly got the wrong parts. Have no idea. I only had a pair of small clipeprs with me, so couldn't get very wide stick parts.

Got a single white, pink and a orangey-peachy colored. Had put them in my vechile and had to be at a meeting for two hours , came back and the whole inside of my car the windows was covered with moisture. Couldn't see to drive and no napkins or paper towels to try and clena it off. felt like a kid again smearign my hand roudn the windows to try and see.

Whe I cut these guys they looked great and now I get home and they all wilty. I not sure haven't had time to look, just got in and checkign out Dg first, but think there might be a couple of pods on the white.

Hope evrybody has their plants in and got themselves bundled up for the cold blast tonight. I know my furance didn't shut off at all last night and I kept it at 65F to try and save fuel. Just threw an extra sweater and quilt on the bed.

Here what I got. : ) Now when I cut , is the skinyn parts at the top still good or do I cut them off.

So sorry about your Uncle, Phyliss, will add you all to my prayer list.

Have enjoyed reading the forum as usual and wanted to say hello to all. Hope you have had a good day. Phyllis , I'm so sorry for your loss. That is one pain that to me cannot be described. I lost 4 family members in 7 yrs. My Dr. Appt. this morning went well, no major changes, but will be trying a new inhaler to help my breathing.
Had a chance to go do a good deed for someone today. AND oh boy was that a pleasure. I got the chance to cut a biggg brug back. It was full of beautiful pink blooms. The only name she has for it is Angel Trumpet. She didn't know it was a Brug. Neithor did I before discovering this forum. I was told to help myself to all I wanted. I got 2 of the stalks, (what are they called) cut them back after I got home and now I have cuttings that I'm going to give to anyone who wants them. LOL I'm going to start a Brug neighborhood. Saw some very pretty people here. Kim, please feel better, and anyone else ailing for whatever reason, feel better. Know you are loved.
Love to all
Faye

Faye, it's so good to hear from you and that you are feeling okay! Congratulations on the Brug cuttings! Sounds like a real pretty one! Well, as Clemmie always says, Tuesday nights are usually slow here, so here is another recipe for those that might like it. They are great!

SPINACH ENCHILADAS

½ lbs washed spinach

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

½ large onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt to taste

¾ lb Swiss, Mexican white goat cheese or Muenster cheese, part for sauce

10 fresh corn tortillas

Vegetable oil

Sauce

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon flour

1 cup milk, heated

1 cup sour cream, at room temperature

½ cup diced chilies

Serve with sour cream and hot sauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Add chopped onion and garlic to heated olive oil and butter in a skillet and sauté until golden. After drying spinach, chop and add to the skillet. Toss until wilted. Salt to taste and continue cooking until all the liquid is gone.

Coarsely grate the Swiss cheese. Lightly brush a tortilla with vegetable oil and heat it quickly on both sides in a skillet until it is soft and flexible.

Spread the tortilla with a heaping tablespoon of cheese and top with the same amount of spinach mixture. Fold one end of tortilla over filling and roll up. Continue until filling is used up.

Lightly oil a casserole dish and layer the enchiladas in it.

To make the sauce, melt 1 tablespoon butter in a pot and stir in the flour. Cook, stirring constantly over low heat until it is golden. Add the milk and stir with a whisk until slightly thickened. Add sour cream, chilies and left over cheese and cook until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper and pour over enchiladas.

Cover pan and bake 20-25 minutes.

Starlight what a haul. Please post again after you have cleaned and cut them the way you will root them..

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

You're right Lily, that is one beautiful bloom.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Ella, that is some haul, what a great find. Hard to tell how big the cuttings are with all the leaves. You can strip them off.

Faye, glad all went well at the Dr. and you too had a great burg find. Have fun with the cuttings.

Karen, sounds yummy

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Phyllis, my condolence for the lost of your uncle. Prayers for you and family.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Audrey, I like the heated mattress pads, because like you I hate the weight of blankets on me. When I have the heat under me I only need the sheet and a light blanket on me no matter the temp. I am on my second one and have been using them for 18 years. As for the length of time you can use bubble wrap on your brug, I think you could safely do five days. Tammie from Odessa was the one who told us she did it and she had it on for several days if I remember. Maybe even weeks, because she said there were new leaves growing underneath it when she unwrapped it.

I like Karen would wrap and unwrap. I hate to lose anything, so to wrap and unwrap every other day or so would not bother me. I put sheets on my plants last night and uncovered today. Tonight only select will get covered again. It got down to 34 here last night. The brug was in Sooner Country all cozy at 52 as was the mandevilla vine.

But a warm up is coming starting tomorrow. I may get my greenhouse up by the next freeze. I have the wood stove burning in the sunroom now. Ahhhhhh nice.

All the brug pics are beautiful. I hope to have some one day. Keep posting them. It gives me something to aspire to.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ella, like Donna has suggested. Strip off most of the leaves on your cuttings. Including all flowers and buds. Submerge the cutting in a large basin, or your bath tub in room temp. water. Leave them their over night, tomorrow they should be rehydrated, and ready for you to put them in water to root. Good luck, my friend. I've a good feeling you will have a 100% success.

edit to make correction: there/their, what happens when I type 70wpm. Sorry folks.

My monster white has 2 buds.. maybe she'll keep them.. she's already been through the mill remember??..lol
I pulled vines till I am blue in the face.. tried leveling the ground in and around the shed..Lyle always build things bassacwards in my opinion!!..lol.. I ahd cleared that area back in the spring, but we had about 12 stumps where lyle had to cut trees and I couldn't mow in there so that area grew right back up.. I have a pic I'll sher.. maybe you can see all the mess!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

:) Yep, it was so fun, like we new each other for a long time! We had great conversations, seed gathering, fire in the chiminea, swapped plants and had food and fun. I don't think we took a pic of her Honda with brug cuttings loaded trunk to front console.. I've potted up her Purple iochroma!! yes! and her clerodendrum Yes!! She brought some much and cheesecake! . ... Ah, can't wait for us to all meet together!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Got a splitting headachey tonight so I guess I'll turn in everybody. Becky I HATE spinach (canned anyway) but fresh tastes nothing like it. Spinich and cheese pizza is to die for and this tastes similar. Ya'll hotties have a great night, love you bunches!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Karen, I love spinach anyway we cook it or not. Thank you, for the recipe. Yoohoo Kimmie from Pa. we miss you girl!
Kimbob.
p.s. Thanks Bonnie for your offer of the double DD, however, I've one already, it's just called 'double pink' and that's all I needed. I've a double peach that keep dropping its buds. One of these days I'll see it actually opens.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Karen get rid of the headache and i see Bonnie had a good time, great!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Beck sounds like you might have overdone just a tad. You are going to pay for that in the AM. Glad they are all safe and sound, now you can sleep. Bonnie, “Great day” come on hottie give us more than that. Clemen, there are no wrinkles.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Texas Grower..... Do you not have brugs? These are singles and I have no idea what I am doing, but would be glad to share some of these with you when I get em cleaned up. I just getting started, and only have a couple rooted, but wouldn't of had my first one, if somebody wouldn't of shared one with me.

Man I made a big mess all over the kitchen floor and am chasing tiny ants from off these things. Poor things look pathetic and my scizzors broke tryign to cut a branch, but stripped th emajority of the leave soff and at least have them in water.

I had the three branches of white with pods. Here the pods. Will they make it do ya think, took most of the leaves off and have them in water under kitchen lights for now.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm fading too, hottie's.. Debra wore me out! ;) Donna, I sent her home with the box she brought full and more.. I got some very thick passiflora vines for rooting from her, and some good bug repel lotion..and more! :) I'm going to get the feet up, and it's so cold here tonight.. snuggle up with my blankie and a book.. will check back before night-night...

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Those seedpods won't make it. It takes lots of energy to nuture it to maturity. You can try them again next year when the cuttings take off and running. Ella, look back on my above post. I have seeds that I can send you if you'd like to try some winter sowing this year.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Karen.. hope ya get rid of your headache. Not a fun thign to have right before bed. Hope your able to take somethign for it and stil get a good night sleep. Sweet dreams!

here, the bucket mess I made. Did the best I could tonight. Hacket at them and stuck them all in a bucket. Wil start a thread tommorrow with each stick so maybe somebody cantell me where to make the best cuts cuz these guys going in all kinds of weird directions.

Yep was blessed today cuz usually they let these things just die back and then in the spring cut all the dead branches off and trim em back. All that waste goign to the trash, not this year. : )

Thumbnail by starlight1153
Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

LOL... Now I know why when my son was younger he hated it when I gave him a haircut. : )

Thanks Kim. I would love to have some seeds if you have some to spare. Let me know what your looking for and maybe I have it or somethign else to trade. Bummer, too bad the cold couldn't have held off a bit longer. At least I have seen my first real seed pod on th ebright side. : )

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

yeah.. where is Peg?? she hasn't posted all day.. humph!! Get's rid of the Dh for a few days.. and she goes MIA!!..lol
Bonnie.. OOH.. that DD is sooo pretty.. is that a current opic?? IF so.. I would have to have her in the house, where i could smell her!!..lol.. I know yall had a wonderful time together!! But I want details...hehe
