She's About To.............#31

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

phyllis....Thanks for informing of brug coop...Checked those out lots of beatuiful brugs but since I'm new to these decided to pass this time...want to make sure the ones I already have make it maybe the more experienced experts are looking for some of those and i'd hate to get them and not do something right..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Clemen, this woman is one whose home we all from the East Texas Round up went to, after the eating. She has beautiful brugs all over. I took home some cuttings from that visit. I think she will be a square dealer for all.

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

I have an old 10 gallon fish tank and accessories (Not hooked up) in the spare room it hase bubble stone an pump in it..If iI was to try rooting cuttings in this about how much water shpould i put in tank or would you fill it all the way up like you were going to put in fish...what about hooded light would you use that as well???

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

It's a little round ball .... cylinder type or a long flat thing that goes on the end of the hose and it regulates the bubbles more evenly and gentlier....puts more oxygen in the water. I think they don't cost very much.Walmart should have them in the fish section.....I have 2 different kinds here..i'm gonna try the round ball one tommorow..
G-night

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Ohhhhhhhhh I hope it is not the same woman, she did send me my money back after 2 motnhs of waiting and BEGGING, never got merchandise, so be carefull. If it is the same lady, well i do hear good things about her, all I know I had a bad bad experience and I thought I had lost my $30 bucks!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

I made a holder out of foam and put holes in it for each cutting and put it just above the water line..cut the foam so it fits snug inside..with about 3 inches of water in it with some peroxide and put the light on top....we'll see how it works...I thought it should work as good as a grow light...LOL

I'm new at this too..lol

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Clemen, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I pray I don't have the same. Thanks for the heads up though. Maggie and Ken were very gracious and gave a lot of plants and cuttings away that day. I think they will be straight.

I feel for all you southern hotties, those are the temps we are having. Seems to me ya’ll should be a little warmer. Beck I think 36 is okay to pushing it. Just a little colder and they will be mush, I’d cover them up it there is a good chance of frost. . Oh yeah, I remember the days of teenage girls and cars, not a lot of fun for the parents. Peg you had quite a day between the garbage and the green slim, not to mention all the work work. Hope your babies bloom in the garage. This is my first time rooting cuttings too, I have some in moss and some in water. I’ll see how it goes, going hook up the air stone tomorrow. The fish tank idea sounds good and I like the foam idea too. Most of us here tonight are newbie to cuttings.

Time for me to go Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s have a good night all.

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

well gals i have to go to bed.....500 comes way to early I'll talk at yall more tomorrow..

goodnight to all!!!!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Peg I have a killer recipe for Chow Chow if you'd like to make some with the green tomatoes...Bonnie and I were talking, it's just our preference, but we like to start them out in water with bubbler at LEAST until we see nubbies forming, or some sign of roots before putting them in the moss....Just feel better that way. It's all a matter of personal choice though, so many different techniques all work.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Nite dear Hummingbird!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Ah yeesh, now I'm going to have to go get a bubbler. Can't you put them in the moss without the nubbies? Too many techniques. What's a woman to do?

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

BECKY!!! If there's ANY chance it'll frost, bring them in, or cover them with a sheet! I'd hate for you to lose them!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Audrey no frost no frost, do not even think about it!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Try some in the water, some with moss, some in soil, and see which works best for you!!!
Good nite everyone. Stay warm.
Linda Kay

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Jeanne, you can certainly put them in the moss with no nubbies, it's just mine and Bonnie's preference that we like to see them start a little....Oh Peg, I forgot to tell you that I did talk to Bonnie tonight and she's fine, just tired from moving plants. She will probably be around more tomorrow. I miss her when she doesn't post! Well, it's about my beddie bye..Predicted low here 33 and my babies all have new coats of bubble wrap....Just about killed me to cut off little okra buds and leaves to cover them up.....

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't know where Becky is in Texas, but here we are supposed to go down to freezing. I put my brug in hubby's workshop. It's 50's now. I'm hoping it won't go down to freezing in there. Maybe hover above that. It's 45 outside, but on the southside of town Weather Bug says it's 38. Any way you look at it, it will be cold. I will be running outside early in the morning to check my baby. I hope she'll be alright.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Come on guys, I am here in NY and no frost, you are not getting it period!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OK.. I am NOT looking at the coop.. ya hear me??..lol.. I WON'T LOOK!!

Peg.. you are sooo funny.. from now on I am nicknaming you the grinch..lol Did you mean you got 5 5 GALLON buckets full of green tomatoes?? MAN that is a bunch!! What are you going to make with them?? You have been having fun all day with the cold..lol... garbage and barefoot, and now maters and the dark!!
Phyllis.. I bet that will work good, and just about like a regular light!! Here's hoping for you anyway!!
Jeanne.. I can say I have had a lil more rot this time around than earlier this year, so maybe there is something to the spring being easier for cuttings. I don't know how they know the difference though, cause I have the cuttings in the house!!
Betty.. picabo changed colors from when she was a puppy... I am in LUV with her.. she is sooo cute, not to take away from your other kids... mind you.... Mine sleeps with me and DH's rat terrier/fiest sleeps with him..lol... but mine won't get near me.. i guess I turn too often to suit her..lol

I know it's time or past it for some of you Hotties to be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ing already... sweet dreams to all of you!! It sure is feeling a lil more like winter now.. hope ya'll have your cozy jammers on and you are snuggly warm tonight!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

You're right Clemen, the weather folks aren't calling for frost, just a freeze. The air and dew point are on the low side and there is a slight wind, so there should'nt be any frost.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

No jammies, I have a heated matress pad. I stay nice and warm and my joints don't hurt come morning. My chi sleeps with me and my hubby's sleeps with him too. They add a little extra warmth on a cold night. :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, don't forget to post pictures and directions on the bubble warp please?
LK

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OK... I went out and covered the ones in a pot with a sheet.. I got skeered..... I really don't think there will be a problem.. but the weather man is hardly EVER right..lol
Linda Kay.. too scientific for me..lol... I jts think i'll stay with the water and peroxide... works good enough for me!
Karen.. OUCH... I couldn't have stood it to cut off the soon to be blooms... especially since this is a one night ( hopefully!) thing for a while!!
Jeanne... ooooh those heated mattress pads are sooo nice.. I have one somewhere..lol.. but Lyle keeps it soo %$# hot in here I sure don't need any extra heat!
TY Audey... maybe I am safe now on the brugs.. I would cry like a baby if I lost them

Glad to know where Bonnie is... where's anjl?? Hope she isn't sick again!!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I would cry too. Especially knowing it was a one night affair. When my are in the ground next year I will bubble wrap too. I think it was Tammie in Odessa who told us about the bubble wrap. She said she started wrapping from the ground up to about a foot up each branch after the Y. They died back to where the bubble stopped, no having to wait for new growth at ground level.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Hard freeze here tonight....darn I have lots of iris reblooming, dahlias, and roses......guess winter is on the way.

This is the brug anoym site....LOL....now you know you are in real trouble.!

I just ordered more brugs....I am out of my mind....oh well, I have lots of good friends with me..

Everyone sleep tight and stay warm..I so envy you all in warm spots!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Jeanne.. I am really more in zone 9 and I am a lil leery of the bubble wrap. Caren.. heaven sent said her brugs rotted from the bubble wrap cause of our sooo drastic fluctuating temps here... and I think she was either in zone 8a or b. I guess if you were diligent in putting it on and taking it off during the weather changes it would work good! Besides.. I am more the type to sit back and let others try new things out first..lol.. but then I sure don't mind giving others all the credit either..lol
Joyce.. you didn't..lol.. you did!!... Heck.. I may have to go look yet... man... ya'll are killing me...hehehehe.. I really hate this time of year.. if it has to freeze, just keep doing it until it gets tired... but I guess I don't have a choice huh??

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Oh I want a heated mattress pad. I had a water bed for years and always loved the heat. My Russian Wolfhound jumped on the bed one day and stuck a toenail through the mattress. LOL That goes back 20 years. LOL

I use the air stone bars and the little balls in my Bubbler. If I have a cutting or group of cuttings that I can't mark the name on, I will stick the cuttings in a jar with the mouth below the water level and drop one of the little ball air stones in the jar. Works good. Thought I had a picture but can't find it.

Yes "Picabo" did change color as she grew up She lost that black on her face. Her mother was black & White. She and "Doodle" have both gotten pretty gray around their face this Summer. :~((

I just ordered some of the cuttings from the CoOp. Bummer, I was trying to cut back. LOL
It is 40 here now and going into the low 30s maybe lower. Berrrrrrrr.

Everyone here is making zzzzzzzzzz think I will join them. Nite Nite everyone.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

My first time at rooting so thought I would try the moss for most of them, put 3 in water. This is the second week and I see a lot of roots showing through the moss. Two in water are rooting, but the 3rd one didn't make it. I'm thinking about a gro light, son suggested getting neon lights. Will look around at what I can find at Lowe's. I keep checking on them, no patience here. I didn't put peroxide in water so when I change it I'll add a drop or two. Just know I'm going to do something wrong. I think I'll stick with moss and a clear cup so I can see the roots growing.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Betty..lol... you couldn't resist could you?? I still haven't looked...... yet!! Nite!!
Pegi.. looks like you are having good results! I use a lil florescent desk lamp and that way I can bend the "arm" down to whatever height I want

Guess I am going to follow the majority. have a full day tomorrow... that is if I don't sleep most of the morning away..lol

NITE!!

Morning H&H’s

Looks like Wolfie was the first one in the room this morning for a quick visit, but I got the coffee going so grab a cup while it is hot. Hope every ones night went well with no freezes.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I still love my Hotties and Handsomes...been depressed lately with not much to say. So yall have a great day! I'm off to work...sigh : (
And welcome picabo ^_^

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

gimme a cup of that coffee Donna! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....33 here right now! Maddy and Raynee sure didn't want to go outside to pee pee! First night we ran the heat in the house so it's nice and cozy here. I'm proud that my hard work payed off it getting the storage shed/greenhouse ready now.

I found that it was very difficult if not impossible to wrap my big Brugs down the thinner limbs coming out from the main trunk. So.....as bad as it hurt, I cut each branch back to the first strong Y, leaving about 1 inch of the Y, and wrapped the entire tree tip to trunk. I used the green stretchy plant tie to tie everything off. I'll be the official Hottie Guinnea pig this year and let you all how it goes living in an area with wildly fluctuating temps. Although I would hate to lose any, the 4 I have in the ground I already have additional cuttings rooting anyway that I was given.

Kim so sorry to hear you've been feeling low. I have depression and deal with that often. Hope you feel better soon sweetie. I got the cuttings you sent and it made me so happy! Please let me know what the postage was when you feel better.

Hope you are all having a wonderful morning! Donna where are the hot muffins? Pumkpin would do me fine this morning ^_^

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Good Morning! How I've managed to miss almost 2 whole days of Hottie Thread, I'll never know! 25 degrees here, hope my caladiums bulbs didn't get it... was waiting to dig those and a couple canna... guess we'll see........I know the furnace is coming on a lot this morning. Thanks for coffee, Donna... Aw, Kim, I think it's kinda depressing bringing everything in and trying to get it to like the environment inside... and if we have more than 2 days of NO SUN, it really works on me.. I think we're mostly solar powered... I hope you feel better today. I did see Kimbob up there! Welcome back, girl!
Debra and I will be having our Hottie Day, so I doubt I will get caught up on #31 today... I am like a kid on Christmas morning about her coming for a visit..

Peg, she and I will full fill each others' Hottie Want List... Did everyone get their one item or know they will get it in Spring?

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

OH Boy, got here before the first hundred. Hello to all, have enjoyed all the posts. So sorry some of you are not quite up to par and I pray that you soon will be. Have a good day at work, keep that boss under controll and hurry back to this forum. Now, time for me to settle down for coffee and I too would love a muffin to go with it, but instead, DH is taking me to Cracker Barell after my Dr. apt. this morning. (just a follow up apt.) Wishing all a great day
Faye

NE, KS(Zone 5b)
