fine point permnant marker stays on them really well! I have a mountain magic that I can still read after 2 seasons. I write on the woodiest part I can find that will not be under water.. I sometimes write it twice just in case.. doesn't hurt.. I also write who the cutting came from if there is space. screen name if it is a DG'er! I also have tags in the pot and on the plant but sometimes those come off and get pulled out and when that happens.. I search the plant for my marker writing!
joeswife.. air stone.. bubbler stone in the fish area at the store.. pt on the end of the air hose to an air pump.. you have a bubbler!
She's About To.............#31
With the way the wind is blowing up here in the NE
she may just be in TX by now...
Pointed hat and all....teeheehee
JK Clemie...
I have heard that if you take a cheap or old mini blind, you can cut the pieces, and use that for markers in the pot.
LK
I've used the mini blinds for markers before.. Wow, talkers! :) Lovely bloom, Mike! Hi James.. Phyllis, Debra, Tammie, Chantell, Peg, Becky and Clemen, Linda Kay... AUDREY, where's yer bloom pic??
Afternoon everyone! I got up to early to bake those cinnamon rolls and had to take an afternoon nap! Mike, thank you so much for sending the package, after I commented I then saw your post and know how very busy you've been. You're a sweetheart and I thank you so much. Will pay you for postage of course!
For IDing my brugs, I got these dirt cheap tree tags for .09 each. I love this company because you can buy 2 or thousands, no minimum. I got one of their permanent garden markers too and was very pleased with my cheap and efficient purchases. I like the idea of a tag on the tree itself better than ground tags for Brugs, just personal taste.

Tammie sounds like you have a great setup! I use the same setup, except with a 5 gallon bucket and I put a wire blanching basket over the airstones to sit all the cuttings upright.
Becky, yes, my Grandmammy was the best and so was my mom. She sang me that song too. They were very sentimental women and tradition was important to them. I was very lucky to have them to overbalance a horrid stepdad, but that's another story.
Deb you ARE a pretty woman! So darned tiny, I hate you!!!! LOL, you know I'm kiddin', love you so! I already knew Bonnie was beautiful, and such a nice day you had!
ok, im confuzzled airstone/ bubble stone? pic plz? I need step by step LOL
Beautiful Audrey!! She's a gorgeous one!! Congrats! Debra.... airstone like for aqarium fish.. (step 1-lol)
Deb,
They come it lots of different shapes and sizes...and the prices vary..
Walmart should have them in the fish section...

Great pictures Audrey! I have a couple of Native Habitat's rooting and didnt' know what they looked like.
Deb, here is a picture of a bubble/air stone. You can get them at Walmart dirt cheap, along with a cheap air pump (under $10.00) and you have to buy a roll of the air tubing.

LOL Deb, you silly! Attach the hose to the pump and them the other end to the bubble stone, hehehE!
Edited to add: Girl WAIT!! Are you saying that you have the pumps themselves in the water? Please say no, electrocution!

What great ideas!! Tammie gonna run to Wally World Sat. (yes, I'm cheap & the buckets will be clearanced then!!)
Karen - tree tags!!! OMG - I have a slew of those I bought through a co-op just sitting w/my gardening supplies - duh, why didn't I think of that!?? Thank you!!!
Glad to know markers don't hurt the babies just in case, though.
And as for the bubbler - instead of the single stone I bought the rectangular shaped one...figured maybe it would send up more bubbles. Bubbles = roots? I hope...fingers crossed.
Audrey that is a gorgeous bloom...sooo pretty! What's she smell like?
I'm horrible...always the scent stalker...what can I say?? LOL
Afternoon all,
Dr Chrio did a number on me this morning, but I had to keep moving. I needed to find an outfit to ware to Aidan’s Christening on Sunday, I still can’t get anything in my closet on. Then off to do the rest of the errands, TG for carriages in the stores, I was walking and using it for support. Yup old lady here, good news is I got most every thing done.
Audrey beautiful bloom. Beck I feel for ya. Peg have a great time with hubby, Hee hee. Karen, I’m going to check out those tags. Mike we missed you too, I checked out your thread, it’s great. Who is the white one pictured? Clemen, hope your making out okay moving those all by yourself.
Wow all the different set ups for rooting sound wonderful. I have a few in moss and some in water. Still need to set up the bubble thing. Now I need to put stuff away. BBL
Wonderful! I think she only smells at night, noone can smell her in the daytime! I woke up smelling this wonderful fragrance this morning, like nothing I've smelled before! Better than Fabreze airfreshener!!!! LOL!
Karen, I meant to tell you, Cat does a coop on those tags, well she did this spring.. I hope she does it next spring... she gave me some and I loved them.. just about out... I put a water garden pump IN my tub for the winterizing fish and water plants.. then added an airstone hooked to an aquarium pump for more air.. Chantell.. :) scent stalker!
Gotta love those scents eh? Since mine are inside now...everyone wakes up to CG's scent as he's sitting smack dab in the living room...nice eh? LOL
They all only smell at night and early early a.m... I wondered if I could set the timers to keep the lights off in the basement longer in the mornings so they would think it's still night out... ? ? Oh, NICE placement for good smelling, Chantell!
I'd say "How smart am I?" but sadly it was the only place left...heaven help me...
Oh... I understand... I'm sure it looks as nice as it smells..
Well, night temps will be in low 50's here for awhile and days in the 70's so I went out to unwrap the bubble wrap off of my brugs. Was surprised to see that one had "sweat" really badly and the bubble wrap and trunk were very wet. Not good. So, I would say I cannot leave it on there until the weather gets cold and stays cold.....Kinda sad looking at them all nekkid and bare limbed.....
Two brug cuttings in water are growing roots, happy about that. I don't know what the moss ones are doing, but I do see roots through the clear cup. Today I decided I should have a grow light so went to home depot and got a neon plant bulb and bracket for it. Now hubby says he is going to make me a set up for my plants, Haven't throught about a bubbler yet, maybe will try Wal-Mart or Target my next trip out. I do see little greenies coming out of stems that are in water. Now, I'm on my way to trying some seeds.
I love the excitement here.. Karen, I agree on waiting with the bubble wrap. They like 50 at night. They'll be leafy and pretty again.. just hafta wait. Donna always fun to get new clothes..Aw little Aidan! Pegi and Chantell you are both getting me all pumped up to look at my rooting cuttings and the ones I don't think are rooting.. but if you can see roots in the moss.. they are doing their thing! Congrats.. and Audrey has that gorgeous bloom! Debra? you d-mailin' me? Peg's with DH and the homecoming. (Phyllis- :) the pointy hat!) Oh, Clemen? going for a once around down there..
Evening everybody!
Hope you all had a good day! Still chilly here but sure felt better than yesterday.
Audrey.. Your Native Habitat is really pretty. : )
If ya hold a bowl out got some hot goulash here for folks and tiny Halloween decorated mini cupcakes.
Donna. Hope your feeling somewhat better and not worse after the visit today.
I went to town to Hoem depot today to see if I could find some of that Orchid Moss. The only think I could find was Miracle Grow Orchid Potting Mix with fertilizer. Is that the same stuff, will it work for rooting a brug or not.
Karen thanks for posting about your plants sweating. I put my stick in the gh and then put more plastic over it cuz of the freezing temps last night and noticed that humidty had built up big time and mine were damp. Guess i will need to come up with another plan.
Ella, Orchid potting soil is different. I have been using sphagnum moss, today I found the Orchid moss at Lowes and it looks the same as the Sphagnum but was more expensive.
Donna. Thanks, I don't want to get the wrong stuff, glad I decided to wait to get home and ask about it. Think I will call Lowe's before I make th elong drive and see if they have any. If not guess I wil do the water trick.
Ella I think the bubble wrap will be fine ONCE the temps get cold and stay cold, it just can't take fluctuations....The warmth from the atmosphere creates the sweating, the greenhouse effect.
MMmmm Ella, My bowl is out! :) I thought I paid 3.50 or something for the OM, at Lowes here.. does look like the spagnum..
Yup looks exactly the same, I did buy it and will read the pkg and let you know. The OM was 4.49 here and SM was 5.99 but there more about twice as much in the brick.
Appreciate the advice and the help.
Auint B. Got plenty so if ya want seconds don't be shy.
I also have another problem sort of. I got a stick in the mail today. It short and very fat with lots of tiny side branches. The bottom of the cut is clean , white and fine, the top though is black and has some sort of fungal mold growing on top of it. I won't be able to identify what exactly it is til next tuesday. This is the first I have seen of any of the disease problems involved with brugs. Any idea what it might be and what should I do to treat it. Can it be saved do ya think?
Sounds like rot to me, Ella.. have a pic?
Starlight,
Thanks for your generous offer for cuttings. I have a brug from Park Seed that is four feet and hasn't y'd yet. Then I got some cuttings from a local Round Up a few weeks ago. Then Bonnie was so kind as to go out in the dark and cut me some more. I also just ordered three from a co-op and one from E-bay. God help me I'm a brugaholic. Thank you for the offer though. I would like to have big enough brugs someday to share with others too.
Again all the pics are beautiful today, animal, plant or human.
I had to peek a little thriugh the moss and saw some white nubbie forming and even new little leaves on one. So, I might have more success than originally thought. I will check into bubblers this weekend at Wallie World too.
Let me take one. wil take me a few to take th epic and download.
Look at that pretty baby with all them roots. I definately need to find the OM. So healthy looking plant ya got there. : )
hey hey is there food in here??? sniff sniff.. imma hungry! oh! you aren't sposed to put pumps in water? ut ohhs.. they are all three in waters! I'd better go pull everything all out.. wait the box said sumersible.. doesn't that mean it can hold its breath under water like a timex?? oh heres what auntB gave me all together here...
Why thanks Ella, they are my GK's you know?
Debra! Look at those MIL tongues! tall! What kind of pumps Debra? for aquarium fish or ponds?
