She's About To.............#31

(Cathy), MO

We don't have a Lowes or HD in this town. Closest one is 70 miles away. But I go up that way sometimes, so will stop in

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Don't make it a special trip, just when ever you go there. No hurry for it. I have done this long with out it, a little longer won't hurt.
LK

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Yes, that is the orchid moss on e-bay but the price is way inflated. ... just bought some at Lowes yesterday... with tax was $4.60 ..guess they do need to make a profit.. but the shipping they are charging is outrageous! It weighs under 6 ounces! They have about 12 of them left out my Lowes.. I don't know how many brugs you can start with one block but I bet it is quite a few... AuntB... how many of those pink cups could you fill with one package of that stuff? .. by the way.. did you get those cups out of my garage? I swear I had a package of those out there... somewhere! LOL

I could probably break a package up if some of you have just a few cuttings to start and need some of it.. oversize envelope won't cost much to mail since it doesn't weigh much and the stuff itself doesn't cost much.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Oh, the Lowes is also literally within walking distance of my house too!.. but I don't walk! Just opened last week.

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Hey TM Tammie..teeheehee
Put me down for an oversized envie..
Just let me know how much and i'll get it sent to you...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Cat is going to get me some. Thanks for the offer. I have at least 10 brug cuttings right now, but if we get frost here, I will be cutting mine for the first time, so I will have a bunch more if I do that!
I can't believe I said cut my brugs! GULP!!! But I would rather have cuttings from them, than no plant at all. better be safe than sorry?

Hello....

One little, two little, oops, that's wrong!

One biggie, two biggie, five biggie cuttings.
Five biggie cuttings of morning glory bush just arrived at my door. They are beautiful, but, Keith has the camera with him. Thanks Werewolfie!

Well, work hit bigtime again this morning! So just stopping in before I have to turn around for a second shift. Grrrr! Got a big surprise this morning. Woke up and forgot to put the trash out for pickup, so out I run barefoot. Whew! It's 33 degrees out there. Needless to say, the trash can made it to the street in record time and I just hope the neighbors didn't see me dancing out there with my cold feet. But, the brugs and tomatoes look great. The begonias, oh my, are they gone. Now they are predicting a stretch of 60s and 70s, this is just how my weather goes, up and down, and why I am waiting on cutting brugs down.

Any of you hotties and handsomes who cannot find certain things in your area, please let me know and I will be glad to get them for you anytime! Got to keep "enabling" each other. :))

Beck, I so hate to hear about your son's friend. Relationships are precious to us but never worth a life. So tragic.

TTYL, got to get busy, or back to busy :) Lov, Peg

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Been cutting, marking and getting my cuttings ready to ship. Also helping DH work on the gutters on the barn until I cut my poor little hand.

I had posted pictures of two of my children on the other thread and have been asked to post over here.

This is the real "Picabo" when she was just a couple of months old standing with my little Maltese "Kisses"

This is all 4 of my 4-legged Children (We lost little "Kisses" the Maltese many years ago).

The white Kitty is "Pins" mother to the Tabby "Watermelon"
"Picabo" is a Japanese Chin and the little brown one is "Doodle" a Brussels Griffon.

All 4 usually sleep with us, especially in the winter. "Doodle" sleeps under Cover, and "Picabo" on my pillow. The cats are both foot warmers.

That's all my 4 legged children except for "Ginger" the horse.

Hi all you Hotties and Handsomes, back at work. Boy was it cold and windy Sunday afternoon. I cut every flower in bloom and picked every green tomatoe. Fixed chili for dinner and listened to the wind blow all night.

Karen, congrats on the winning of ebay brug. It is a beauty. The bloom actually looks shiney?

Dana, I am still trying to get things arranged. How can I spend so much time organizing and be so unorganized? LOL.....

Lorraine, you are an enabler.....posting brug cuttings...LOL Thank you I would hate to miss out on one....

So sorry to hear about the suicide, my heart breaks for his poor little girl. My sister is a nurse and she worked in the physc ward for a while. There was a sign some where around there that said "Suicide is a permanent answer to a temporary problem".

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

So where are all the TM hotties today??
^o^ ~~~~> Hope your having fun with your mom...

I set up a small air/water thing this morning for the brug cuttings
I forgot my DD had a small triangle fish tank here...
You can get them at walmart....LOL
So I cut out holes in a piece of foam and have some of the cuttings in it now..
With an airstone to give it bubbles...
I put alittle peroxide in the water..
Does anyone know how often do you need to change the water??

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I can buy the orchid moss for $4.60 for a package and shipping can't be over $4.85 it is so light weight and I can put it in one of those tyvek packages taped up really well inside. Anyone interested, d-mail me and we can figure it out.. they had about 10 ore 12 of the packages at Lowes yesterday.

Evening H & H’s

Busy day, I was outside playing with the hose and lifting some of the bulbs. Boy are those Canna tough buggers to get out of pots. I’m beat, but doing okay.

All the pix were great today, Betty those fur babies of yours are adorable. Dana love that plant station, wish I had room in the house for that. Wolfie those are some beautiful Burgs. Joyce you go girl, you haven’t stopped. Bonnie post those pix soon we want to see your tropical jungle room. Beck that a little cold TX it’s only gone that low here one time. Peg, sound like you got some nice mgb cuttings from Wolfie, I can see ya running out with the trash, no shoes and all.

Hummm, I thought I had found the moss at HD but mine is just labeled Sphagnum moss, not Orchid moss, anybody know if that matters. I thought Orchids used Sphagnum moss. What do ya think?

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Tammie, I got my orchid moss at lowes last week. I was able to put up 10 cuttings in plastic cups and lower halves of gatorade bottles and had some left over. It goes a long way. I bought two pkgs just in case. I had some long cuttings from a round up that I was able to cut in half. Maybe two are going to make it. There are a few doing something and a few I have no idea what is happening under the moss. Bonnie says I have to resist the urge to peak. So far so good. I'm being a good girl.

I also got an American Pride brug from Eddiedewayne on E-bay. It's bright yellow. I love yellow. I don't understand this addiction thing to brugs. I don't have it with any other plants. Is there a Brugs Anon ?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hotties hotties, being away all day and I still love each and every single one of you!

Getting ready to chat tonight, just need to feed everyone and then I can try to catch up with all of you!

Enjoy the evening and more later.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL, Jeanne, I don't understand it either! As I said in an earlier post, I'd never even heard of Brugs until June 28th (my birthday!) of this year, at my first RU. Couldn't understand why everyone was going so crazy over them. Now I am crazy over them! I've NEVER been addicted to any flower whatsoever, but these really have a hold on me! I finally understand those people I used to consider nuts that collected daylillies and roses and new every name for them, etc.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

These burggies are additive, that’s for sure they seem to have a power over us that says “You can’t have just one”. Then when you have 2 or 3 and you tell yourself you are happy with that, and those babies say “Just one more”. So you really start looking and it is worst than ice cream, no longer are you content with Vanilla Chocolate, and Strawberry. Not when there are such beautiful colors, and the doubles, and triples, the shredded. They completely take over and become the most important plant in your yard.

Heber Springs, AR

taters, it smells like purfume outside when its night time, not so strong in the daytime though. needless to say, i am addicted,

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I bought Sphagnum moss at Lowe's and used that to start my cuttings. I can see a lot of roots forming. I don't know if there is a difference, but I did find a brick of orchid moss at Lowe's after being told they didn't have any. Haven't used that yet, but they sure do look like the same stuff. Lost my "Ollie" cutting, had it in water and it turned to mush. The other two I put in water are starting to put out roots. I'm hoping my "sweetheart" makes it. Now have some Datura seeds I want to germinate. I might get the hang of all this nurturing yet.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pegi,

I'm pretty sure it is the same too.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Pegi don't that just make you sick when you have to throw away a rotted, mushy cutting? I've thrown away 3 or 4 so far. I don't know how some do so well and some don't, under the exact same conditions.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Just came in from bringing in all my plumerias.. temps are supposed to get into the mid 30's tonight.. last time they said 38 it got to 35 so I am not taking chances with my plumerias.. my brugs are still out but up on the front walk against the brick of the house protected and will be covered before I go to bed and the ones in the ground will be covered also. No chances there either. Not ready to bubble wrap or trim them yet.. just covering tonight. Brought two inside though.. don't want them getting too warm inside because they still have buds on them. Yes, these are an addiction.. I am positive.. I can think of a lot worse things to be addicted! I'll stitck to plants and pets any day. The table in my atrium is now looking like a little jungle.. good thing my plumerias are all just 2 year olds.. and still in tiny pots.. most should have been moved up into much larger pots this year but I never got around to it.. last year I killed almost every one I moved up so I am a little gun shy about repotting them.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I hear that about the mushy cutting, I was changing the water in my tub and found three cuttings that were lost causes.. sigh but the cuttings of all my vines, shrubs, and even some outside planst are still strong along side the standards I got in the mail and from Tropicman.. ut ohhs .. Heros is on.. I will be back.. Hugs to you all..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

We have a freeze warning out for West Tn. tonight! 41* right now, it didn't get over 48 today. Brrr!!!

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

LOL... Hummingbird and Clemmie... I remember those days like it was yesterday... BTW.. your troubles have just started...hehehehe
TY for all the well wishes everyone. It's just soo sad that anyone would have the "courage" to commit suicide! I don't know if that is the correct word.. some think you are weak.. but I think you would have to be very strong to do that!
Slow day for all the H & H's today!! I have had a busy day myself.. potting up some brugs.. I was getting tired of the least wind knocking them over! I am leaving everything out... no one answered me about the 36 degrees tonight, and I think they should be ok. It's going to get 37 the weather man changed his mind..lol.. but it's still scary getting that close! LMK if anyone thinks I need to bring them in.. please!!
Tammie.. I have one plummie.and I did bring it to the porch, but I think I need to bring her on in the house...
Donna.. I just luv your definition of addiction and comparing it to ice cream... you hit it on the head..lol

you girls that have tried the moss.. do you think it's better than just rooting the cuttings in water?? I kinda like to see the nubbies and lil roots.. so I guess I am partial to that way, but just wondering what ya'll think of the moss method...
TTYL!!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I spray my brug cuttings with the recipe everyday too. I think it has helped. I had them in water and some were starting to look like wrinkled skin from being in the bath tub too long. I trimmed the mushy stuff off and put all of them into the moss. I have new leaves and leaf buds on some. There are others I tried to gently pull on that resisted as suggested above and that gave me hope that there might be some roots there.

It's supposed to go down to 32 here in Palestine. I heavily mulched and watered my plants I just stuck in the ground. Then I watered, mulched and brought under cover of the porch and covered with sheets, my potted plants. What a job. It's supposed to be in the 70's wed and nights in the 50's. I feel for you folks that live in real cold country.

Our babies keep us busy don't they.

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

no...Brittany not supposed to be on phone while driving..Thats a rule and being home by 9.30 for the first month she on the phone in her room now complaining to friends about being in so early....oh well she''ll just have to complain a little..she will get over it or turn in keys her choice...

(Marymac) Statesvi, NC(Zone 7a)

Becky..I be of no help to which method of rooting would be best..these are my firsts had them in the moss about 1 week and 2 days

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

The incredible green wimp returns! Oh, H&Hs. I thought last night was it and we were headed for 60s and 70s all week. I work 12 hours and then Keith calls me from out-of-town. "Are you ready for tonight?" Huh? "Peg, it's getting down to 29 tonight and they are predicting 3 hours of freeze. Would you pick all of the tomatoes you can and bring them in?" So, I head out, first thing, brugs get cut. Waaahaaa! Dr. S has three new buds and MEM now has nine. Puppy Love has one. But, they came first and are all sitting out there in their new-haircuts with vinyl teepees over them. The new cuttings are sitting in the garage in water with the heat on. They have not wilted yet, and it's been hours. Still with all buds intact. (Cross fingers, toes and eyes!) But after this major freeze tonight, it's going to be near 70s tomorrow. Crazy Oklahoma weather.

Then, I hit the tomatoes. I now am streaked green with tomato slime (is there a real correct "gardening" name for that?) But I brought in five 5 pound buckets of green tomatoes. And I didn't even get the last three plants. But dark and cold and sheer wimpiness got to me. And, the last three plants are mine. Whew!! I'm one wore out green-slimed lady.

Hummingbird, I would think if you have leaves, you have roots, but please ask an expert. that is so not me! And yes, addiction to brugs is real. But I can't say this is my first plant addiction,, ugh. And I keep finding more plants!

Has anyone heard from Bonnie? Resting is not her style, unless her and Drew wore themselves out moving the "big girls" in yesterday. zzzz, after a shower, zzzzz, lov ya, Peg

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

They have the 2nd brug coop posted for the verigated..double and triple brugs...

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/917877/

I do think their gonna go quick....Hurry

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

me either Becky. Right now I'm just trying anything to get mine to root. What works is what I'll stick with. If you have good success with water, stick with it. I had a woman tell me she uses a bubbler from a fish tank in her water to help rooting and less rot. In fact I think someone said that earlier here today also.

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

I just set one up today...
I think each different Brug has it's own personality...
Now the Versi Peach rooted better for me in dirt..
My Isabella's root better for me in water.. one took only 3 days..go figure...
These stubborn ones i've had in water..nada..in dirt..nada now their back in water with peroxide and an airstone
To help keep the water fresh and oxigenated...I think...
They all have little bubbles stuck to them...LOL
We'll see...

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi, my name is Jeanne and I'm a Brugaholic. I did it again, I just ordered three more from Catlady. Help me!!!! I can't help myself.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Phyllis, thank u for letting us know about that brug Coop, but I got burnt on one of them! Be carefull who you order from!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis, let me know how the air stone works. Is that replacing the bubbler hose?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Sitting here listening to three bubbling tubs and a fountain with allmy cuttings rooting away, even the huge long passion vine that I got from Tropic man is happy and has two blooms .... shoot ,I gotta go to Paulas' real quick, she needs help with her Mama.. If I don't see ya all laters, I will see ya in the am.. HUgs ..Debra
