Just glanced at the computer clock..guess we didn't turn the clocks..this Saturday then correct?
You busy Judy????when is your company meeting? coming soon right...

Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? #65
Hi Betty, Not terribly busy, but just got asked to help with some orders, should tke a couple of hours...in meantime been Catching up in the Threads, Brought
in my santa sack, doing some stitching...
Um, No word today, Was talking to Steve last night, and i am thinking Wednesday will be the day, just kind of a gut feeling...
Betty, i hope you will catch a little nap...I've been eating at desk and leaving at 4, never did before but figure geesh, why prolong the day while not busy.
Homefront in good order...except, the dang foyer, still looks like a garage, So I suggested we all grab something and haul it to basement, Nope, not happening...DH says no it will all be gone in a couple of months...Head shake here, A Couple of months???
I get flu shot every year...Tomorrow is my day to get it. Missed it only one year and was sick as a dog so I make sure to get it.
It's cold here.
OHHHH, My Brother is coming for a visit this weekend!! How exciting, now i can't wait...He wasn't able to go to Ghostfeast so yippee we will see Uncle Bo friday night!!
guess Judy the flu shot reacts differently from person to person, I'm just not aking the chance..nice to have your brother visit..
The foyer? hmmm which room do you consider the foyer, the side door entrance?
Judy did you ever find the wolf painting / frame on ultra suade canvas that I did for Steve???? or are you keeping it and giving it to him for Christmas..lol
No nap till I get home tonight..soooo tempted to travel and see Sharon but it would mean I wouldn't get home till late...I'll decide by my tried and true method...flip a coin..always works
Betty, I know it is a distance for you to drive, but I know it would make her day to see your cheery face and big hugs for her! And a big stick for her son!!!
Just drive safely.
LK
Laura,
Travels of Cedric and Bailey sounds like it will be interesting, is Bailey the dog? I can't participate but would like to follow along, if you will send em the link once it has started.
Who was Cthulu? I know he is a character like a demon in an HP Lovecraft scifi horror book but did someone also name a toy and send it travelling?
I could possibly offer some entertainment for Cederic and Bailey...between the Erie Barge Canal & Niagara falls, cobblestone houses and other local sites here. I love to write...and enjoy doing my Huck & Souky stories on Pets when we get them going.
Betty, do you think your strength of being with your sister would give her strength to toss her son (didn't use word dear) out on his behind? That is just the sadest thing...and in her health and past mental issues, not a good thing for her. Some of the issues your sister has with the past depression and such can be hereditary, so I am sure the son has some of that going on.
I will keep them, and you in my prayers.
Debbie
OK, won't toss a coin..I'll go visit her...as tired as I might be, know she needs a visit..was procrastinating and coming up with reasons why I couldn't...thanks..you've put me on the right track..
Hope you find your sister feeling better Betty. Can I venture another guess and say that the women get drunk? bev
I have the answer to our 'today's question'
Steal something
Betty, thank you so much for the directions to making the cards. they are lovely and I want to try them when I have some time (sure). Not fo rthe next two weeks anyway; I wil be out of town and them busy,, busy , busy. But I will put one together and show you I can do. Thanks again.
I just had a poor little birdie run into my sliding glass door. With a little bit of care it recovered and flew off, but I hope they don’t do that to me again. I did take the opportunity to get some close-up pictures.
Terri, I will put a link to the thread on each of the threads I’ve invited.
As for Cthulu, I just made a new thread on him. I’d been meaning to do it before, but you asking made me get around to it http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/917826/
For those wanting to join "The Travels of Cedric and Bailey" I would really prefer a d-mail. Since the list is going to be set when I open the thread I don’t have a specific place to accept entries and I don’t want to miss anyone.
I’d appreciate it if you wanted to include a phone #; unless you state otherwise only I will use it and I will only use it if Cedric is missing and you can not be reached through normal channels.
zhinu,
What kind of bird is it that you posted a picture of? I don't recognize it.
I have a very high patio roof with 4 sky lights in it. Sometimes, when i walk out there unexpectedly, the birds will scatter off--flying for the 'daylight" (the sky lights) and getting seriously injured. The birds that get hurt this way are usually the Mourning Doves, as they are ground feeders and kind of slow....they don't really dart--they fly off--wherever!
I have found several dead doves under my patio roof over the years. It is amazing the weight they have on them......but, then--they are pigeons of sorts.
A couple of years ago--there was a Dove nesting in a crotch of my neighbors HUGE Fig tree. They don't really make nests, as we know them. They just gather a few twigs and, strategically place them on a chosen fork in a tree and that is that.
They are amazing! The one nesting sits there motionless--even when you get quite close to it. It never moves or blinks. I understand that they alternate brooding--the male and the female. Then--after the 2 babies hatch, they still sit under their parents body, even if they are almost full grown size.
I saw a newly laid egg in this same nest by the Dove. It is huge! At least compared to their size. About 1 1/2" long and light blue. Seems she had just laid it--as there was still a thread of fluid between the bird's hiney and the egg. I waited and waited--camera in hand--to see if she would soon lay the other egg, but she was just sitting there panting and shivering. Must have been painful.......
The sad thing as that--after a couple of days, some animal had trashed the nest and they were all gone. Maybe a cat? Or a snake?
Did you all know that Doves mate for life?
So many widows and widowers out there......
Gita
Gita, I think it's a Junko, but I'm not sure. That's what I've always called them though. I have no clue how it ran into my patio, it's the only time in over two years that I know of a bird hitting the house. Though I found a dead one in my upper bed when I was planting in early Spring, but I assumed a cat or something got it. They are ground feeders.
Nature sure is depressing sometimes, but then you'll turn the corner and she'll show you something so magnificent that it makes up for all the rest.
Hmmm.....I may be wrong, but I thought a Junko looked something like a Robin.......
Totally NOT sure!!!!!!
Gita, I have no clue either. I'll go post her.
Just got home, visited with sister, walked downstairs to find a flood..about 6" of water...not sure what happened, I've a sump pump and a backup pum...and all I wanted to do was go straight to bed...soooo tired...guess I'll be up the better part of the day, they've had such rains, it's coming in so quickly, pump started again but that doesn't help me tonight...
So off I go..
Wouldn't you know when the girls did the cards I put my computer knitting machine of the floor and this morning thought I'd better attach it to the table and was rushing thought tonight would do..it's all electronic, knits on it's own, probably not now, and it's worth mega dollars, in the thousands..
Our Juncos are smaller than a sparrow and they are light grey almost white under and dark grey on top but haven't seen one withe the brown on the feathers. Post it in the bird forum for ID. BEV
I put up an ID request in Wildlife, we shall find out.
Oh Betty, What a major Bummer!
I sure know that...
Well, put the machine up and open everything possible. Put a fan on it if you can.
Hopefully it will dry out completely...We waited for about three or four days before using washer and dryer.
I am glad you got to visit Sharon.
Yep not much one can do till all that water drains away...
...Now, geesh, i sure hope you will try and get a good night sleep.
Poor little bird, not sure what it is either...But glad it was able to fly away.
I am still really cold, so think I will start a fire.
You all enjoy the evening.
Judy, I'm very glad she flew away too. She was flat with one wing out when I found her, I feared it was broken. I went to check her out and when I moved her wing she stood up. So, I went got my camera and just observed her till she took off, it took almost 10 min. though.
Oh Betty,
I know what floods are all about..I feel for you. Did you get huge rains?
Hopefully the computer knitting machine will dry out. Try to go to bed and rest....and let the water drain away..it does overnight.
Glad you were able to go see your sister..I am sure you feel a bit of weight off your shoulders about that.
Judy..did you get to have that fire and warm up?
Big day for me tomorrow..having dental work done..three teeth pulled in front that are attached to a bridge..roots are bad..must come out and I will get a partial denture. Sure hope I don't swell..as I want to go to the funeral visitation tomorrow night.
Cheers,
Carol
Oh Carol, I am sorry to hear of your friends mom. I hope that you were able to send her a nice e-mail as you wanted.
...Some of the memories of your visits will be comforting, as well as you being there for your friend.
Oh yes, and wow, your late Roses are beautiful.
Bev, love the photo of the bee on flower!
No fire, it's dinner and i am just going to climb into bed.
Laura, Sometime the birds see reflection of nature and i think that is why they fly into windows...
Goodnight.
Carol, will have you in my thoughts/prayers tomorrow...had all of mine out so know how you must be dreading the visit to his office...
Yes, I know you and Judy have been having problems..I've the sump pump, a back up sump pump and a water alarm..the alarm well guess you have to be home to hear it...
This spring when the gentleman next door re-routed his property and filled front ditch, I called the Municipality at least 3 times to tell him that the drainage has been affected..he said not..kept his e-mails saying I'd not have a problem..guess he'll get a call tomorrow...would say lol but too tired to do so..
Haven't eaten today other than chicken broth for lunch, wasn't feeling that great, now I'm starving, might go in search of the restaurant's tel #, see if they are still open and order something, if not open then I'll have to rustle up some cereal...
You will think I just waxed the basement floor, so shinny, not, water, you can see the reflection.. to the right, yep sitting in that water is the knitting machine covered with towels so that dog hair didn't get into the unit...now I've greater worries
Well I guess you know my Best...visit with Sharon (more updates tomorrow when I'm not so tired)
Worse..coming home to this disaster...
What did I learn..it pays to paint your cement floor...all that water, just sop it up with wet vac, dry and as good as new...didn't think it was such a good idea when my back was killing me during the painting process but all's ok...
YUK just looked in the storage closet where the water heater was...all the pieces of MDF where there leaned against the wall..these were for mom's fireplace I was doing for her...guess what, about 1" is wet..that wood will swell, guess her fireplace will be a few inches smaller...lol
Best be off and finish cleaning up..doubt I'll sleep as I'll be worrying it might happen again...hmmmm..I'll settle for a few hours sleep..anything better than 3 would be good..
Tomorrow I'll re-read all your posts..had some comments..forgive me if I didn't get to it...
Good Lord willling we'll gab tomorrow!
Betty------
You know what i find amazing?????
Even with all the flood and water damage and worry about all your equipment---you still feel like grabbing your camera to take pictures of it and posting it all here. I just wonder WHY???????
G.
Truth of why???? hmmmmm guess it started when I first joined Dg..would say what I was up to, lovely things people would do for me, things they'd leave for me, work on the house, my projects, my never stopping etc. and was called a LIAR many times over, guess maybe I feel by posting photo's to accompany my conversations deep down inside I feel as though no one will question the going ons...you know me busy/busy, most people would think this lady couldn't possibly do all she says...so guess that's my reason or the only one I can find tonight being this tired...
Meant to say earlier..when I asked the hospital volunteer which room Sharon was in, he gave me directions and pointed to the stairs then asked, 'can you handle the stairs?' so between that and when I was shopping on Sunday 2 little gaffers were so excited about the halloween costume they were buying, one had to be about 5 and the other about 7..the young one bumped into me and the elder one said, 'watch out for the old grandma' so I must surely be showing my age...
Have the de-humidifier on, heater in craft room, checked on the pump several times, seems to be working settled for instant porridge and now it's bed time...
night everyone
Ok, here is the idea on the bird http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/917859/ Dark eyed Junko
Betty, do you have any insurance on the house? That would help cover some of the damage?
So sorry to hear of your water problem when you got home, that is the last thing you wanted to see!!! But most definately call that person about the drainage problem.
Prayers coming your way for a good nights sleep.

Betty, I am so sorry about the flood. I feel so bad, if you had gone home instead of going to your sisters...like I guilted you....you may not have had to deal with that. Ugh!
I hope it warms up and can dry with very minimal if no damage. Homeowners insurance can help I hope if you have it.
Please get some rest.

If you’re not on here and want to be dmail me.
I thought others might want to hear this. Someone shared some misgivings about having anything to do with Cedric and Bailey if they came to visit them. When Shawn and I were in the UK we loved staying at Polly's B&B in Hathersage; the food was great, we had our own rooms after staying at hostels for the trips up to that point, and the days we spent there were more laid back. So the best parts of the trip aren't necessarily "tours". What would you do with a friend that came to visit you from WA? Just think about that, plan it out, and take pictures of you and Cedric doing so. For some people they would take friends to see the Statue of Liberty or the like, others would just hang out and drink tea. I'd love to see pictures of both ends and everything in the middle. Like Cthulu here drinking tea.
Morning, slept like a baby for 6 hrs...sure felt good..met Suzanne in Hillsdale, she really shouldn't be here, sick/sick but is...I've got the chills, have the heater on, cozy, might even have a nap..lol
Paul has inhouse appts. so I'd better not snore...
Linda Kay, I do have insurance, it's a $500. deductable..no damage done really except my knitting machine and labor was free....will give them a call just in case the electrical components on the machine doesn't work don't work..
Zhinu, I'd love to play with Cedric and Bailey..
Debbie, thanks very much for encouraging me to go visit Sharon, it sure did mean a lot to her..brought her roses, of course it was the standard 'you shouldn't have' because I had brought her a planter a few weeks ago, anyway we sat and chatted..
Terry has heard from their 16 year old (just turned 16 last week) now she wants to help or advice..she's a woman of the world..Terry has talked to her about coming home so we'll see..Sharon's afraid that if she doesn't she'll end up on the street and follows everyones' footsteps so likely would try drugs..so bribbing her is their way of dealing with ussues..
Then she went on to tell me about Brian driving her new van and her worries about that..so...asked her what happened to the car you just bought him which he said he'd make monthly payments to you and never did? well he's had an accident, was charged .. had replacement value with insurance but won't report it because they may no longer insure him...there went over $10K
She went on to tell me all the going ons with her other daughter and Brian, not listening, not doing studies etc.etc. and Brian just laying around and yet too tired to visit or do things she needs done...at that point though I told her I did not want to hear about it, know at this point you are saying "Betty, she's sick-have patience" just said that I had heard about her having him evicted now for almost 3 years and she doesn't do anything when the deadline comes, she just shells out more $$$$....at that point she told me it's hard to put a child out (no longer a child at 41) and that I have great children so will never experience having to do so...well, my 2 men are only through the grace of God have not given me trouble, grandchildren all seem to have it together but one never knows the future..I just keep praying!
Morning Betty, Glad to hear you went to see your Sister, but boy she needs to do the tough love thing. 41 is a bit to big to be living with Mom!!! he is a big boy, and drugs or otherwise, he needs to grow up! he would not be living at my house at that age.
Glad to hear you got some sleep. 6 hours is better than the 3 you got the night before.
Turn on your radio, and just hum silently to the music so you won't get caught snoring! LOL
Hope you have a good day. Don't work to hard today.
God Bless
Linda Kay
