Garden Photos - Part 41

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Summer Wine is living up to its name Victor! Great pictures as always.

Wish me luck folks :-S the folks from the electric company are here clearing stuff away from their lines, which go through the yard. I get a little nervous every time they are here, even though they are generally good. I think that it would make any gardner nervous to have other people running around their yard cutting stuff with chainsaws! I did give them permission to use a path through the yard (for walking through only) in hopes of staying on good grounds! They actually said that they like the japanese maples in front and under their lines. The beni komachi, koto no ito cercis forest pansy and cornus national are all next to the poles themselves. Gotto go see what they are doing!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Uh oh - good luck!

Wow! You all have been very busy while I was enjoying seeing fall in the 12 states we crossed to get here! I have loved spinning through all of these photos! Redchic - you have shared so many that were so pretty, as did many others. What a treat.......amazing that there are still quite a number of flowers and trees that are photo-worthy!!

JoAnn - speaking of mandevillas......yikes! The two we planted when we left have TAKEN OVER! They choked out the bouganvilleas and the oleander that were in the bed with them. The jury's still out on whether they can be allowed to remain. If we were here year around, it wouldn't be a problem, but to leave them to their own devices during the rainy season....well, I may have underestimated their clever ploys!

The ferns and caladiums, on the other hand, minded their Ps and Qs and just stayed really pretty. Here's a shot of them.....

This brugmansia (angel trumpet) was a small plant about a foot high when my neighbor gave it to me the week we left. I stuck it in the ground and came back to find it over my head now and filled with cool-looking flowers. This bed that it is in is a jungle that I've started to deal with.

Here's the mandevilla mess with the piles of stuff I pulled out today.......just the tip of the iceberg!

and the tangelos and ruby red grapefruit are full of fruit as well....

This section of the patio looks pretty stark and empty right now, but I'm just itching to get some plants going in all of these containers.......The large pots usually hold my green beans and cucumbers. I'm not sure what I'll plant where at this point...isn't that the fun of it???? I'll let you see this place again once the plants are on their way.

oops......forgot the photo.........sorry!

That's it for tonight. I'm pooped, but will hit the jungle again tomorrow. Sleep tight, my North East friends! You are all in my thoughts and it is good to be back in touch after a good trip down. I hope you are all still enjoying fall and getting some rest at last!

Rest, hmmm, what's that? Love seeing your place and gardens, Louise!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

From maples to lemons. Great views. I missed fall this year. Going to the mainland tomorrow, but think it is now gone. Here is the last of my blooms in the garden taken on Monday. Except I have some glads that still have buds about to pop and more roses. Patti

Glad you had a good trip, Louise.

Man lots of great pics, I must have missed checking this thread yesterday???

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

DonnieBrooke... I like your kind of mess

Very pretty collage Bbrooke.

I only have one little photo for this morning since I was out keeping an eye on the folks with the power lines. The aster under the Forest Pansy seems to be acting as a basket for some of the leaves and then catching some light.

Florida pictures makes me realize how much I hate it up here.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

awwhhhh that's not good schicken!! Sure, I think Florida winters sound great, but I'll take Northeastern or Northwestern summers over Florida's (not to mention the hurricane's). Sorry Louise!

Snow sucks. I would rather try to cool down, then get warm, anywhere anytime. I would rather try to get inside, then in the winter to get outside. In other words - I dont like living in NH............. My husband wont move, he is glued.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

That's too bad. Hopefully you'll get your chance someday! Do you already have snow?? I have an Aunt and Uncle that moved from here to Phoenix Arizona, at first it was winter that they lived there. I had fun visiting them. Now they live there full time and nag (in a fun way) about my not visiting in the summer when it's easier to travel. Nope, I'm not gonna go there! Schicken, feel free to come on over and visit here! I get snow, but it's rare when it lasts more than two weeks. Then it'll come back in two weeks. Last year was the first year in 20 that we had to shovel the roof.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

So Louise, how long do you stay in Florida? All winter? How on earth do you keep up with two gardens?? I find one to be to much!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Louise I couldn't help but notice the talavera frog on the wall...bought one just like it but all done in blue & white. It was a gift for my brother one year as he collects frogs.

Edited to add that I have zone envy again after seeing those citrus trees!

very nice handmade mugs in the window Louise.

I'm envious of the citrus trees too!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I like your basket of leaves, Shelly. And all those citrus, Louise, loaded. I have a valencia orange. Now I want a lemon. Looks like Patti is still going strong, I only have a couple of late climbing rose flowers left.

I used to have zone envy .... then, I built the greenhouse and it all but disappeared. Now, I just need to get off the grid. I don't even mind shoveling ..... yet.

Great little orchard, Louise! I'm jealous.

Thomaston, CT

Your FL home looks lovely, Louise! And no gopher tortoises to chomp your plants! It is amazing how fast plants grow in a FL summer--even in the winter! We are usually raking up live oak leaves the whole time we're there---when I sold my car in May, I was still vaccing the leathery leaves out----and that was from the previous year, since DH was too sick to travel last year. Patti---loved to see annuals still blooming the last week of Oct. Not much blooming here, so I put batwings around my dale to get him ready for tomorrow!

It's amazing me how long the leaves are hanging on in some of your areas. You must not get much wind? Mine turn and whoosh gone in a poof.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh we had major wind the other day! Blew quite a bit off. But it's still early for many trees / shrubs.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

The V. nudum looks great! All those reds!

Chicken Soup Stock "'Tis time, 'tis time."

Round about the cauldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot.

Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witches' mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd i' the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew,
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Silver'd in the moon's eclipse,
Nose of Turk and Tartar's lips,
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingredients of our cauldron.

'Tis the season for my fav. Shakespeare

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That reminds me. I'm out of howlet's wing. Better put it on the list. I've been experimenting with herbs de provence blends lately and trying them in different stocks. I am currently working on creating what I'm humbly calling the "Bestest Base" for fish chowder.

Thanks to you all for your nice comments about "the before" photos of how it looks here. I'll be sending some "cleaned up" views to prove that I'm doing something down here! LOL

We went to vote early today and stood in line for 2 hours. They are expecting the wait to be several hours on Tuesday. No dimpled chads this time. They used paper ballots that get scanned when you are finished. This is our first big election to vote in here. The turnout has been huge.....it's so nice to see people willing to stand in lines a long time to exercise their right to vote. I didn't hear the first complaint.

Kathy, Jen, Debilu and Victor - we're so excited about how well the citrus trees did over the summer. They keep us in fresh squeezed juice for months.

Redchic - no apologies necessary about the lack of appeal of Fla. in the summer....we spend our summers in New Hampshire, so that settles that! LOL We are down here from now until the beginning of May. Maintaining gardens in both locations is hard on the back, but it probably keeps me out of trouble. I really do need to cut back on transporting plants back and forth though. That's getting old. Discipline, discipline!

Celeste - We love the talavera critters and gorgeous pots. We have given each other several pieces down here for various special occasions. They are so whimsical and colorful.

Jeez, Sherrie, I've been looking everywhere for you down here. I thought you were going to hide out under our axle.......what happened?

Marilynn - cool shot of Robindog.....hope you get down here so we can have you guys come over.

Patti - I love your collage! I can't believe you still have so many pretty blooms going!

Willie - love the witches' lines! My niece is playing one of the witches in a community theater production of MacBeth in January.......I'm a real Shakespeare devotee (used to love teaching the plays in another life!) We are celebrating my niece's 30th birthday tomorrow, and we're thrilled that she got up her nerve to get involved in a theater production.

Funny, dahlia! I'm doing my best to avoid the adder's fork down here too!! Really, I am.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

There are some pretty scarey snakes in FL. Take care DonnieBrook.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Will do, Dahlia! It was a bit hairy when I started clearing the overgrown beds. My neighbor taught me to take a walking stick and hit the ground several times where you plan to work and then walk away so any critters can excuse themselves politely. The vibration warns them that you are in the area.

JoAnn - I omitted thanking you for your comment on the Fiesta pieces in the window sill. Those are actually salt and pepper shakers. I love the colors. When we did a mini-makeover of our kitchen last year, I opted for the open plate rack because I find it cheerful to come into the kitchen in the morning and see all the colorful plates, etc.
