WOW grampapa I couldnt tell what the first mushrm photo was until I enlarged, they certainly went to town.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

sorry that one was blurry. it was REALLY cold out yesterday.

then they just kept going further and further across this sidewalk divider

They're kind of pretty, look like mini armadillos

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

good morning as well. Those mushrooms are really cool!! I don't think I've seen them do that before.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi, JoAnne. I just thought they were funny.

I have 3 spirea in a row here. 2 of them are yellow, the middle one turned this pretty red for some reason. DH is blaming it on the rabbit that lives under the bay window behind it. Next year it's color may be brown.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Armadillos...LOL!! I was thinking George Washington's wooden teeth.

I was amazed a couple of days ago to find this orange poppy. They stopped blooming weeks ago.

this little rose keeps blooming along with the hips that have already set. we've had several frosts and even a little light snow.

Rose is a beauty, Is that an iceland poppie?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Jan! Love the mushroom snake.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

great shot of the 'shrooms! ... Like Washington's Roebuckers!! Hahaha.

Strange, I got a couple late poppies, too ....

You missed the Apples & Sour Cream Kuchen at coffee this morning, Jan. ;-)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

your killing me willi.
my sugar is way up just reading about sourcream coffee cake.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

"Heck" with the sugar! What about the TWO sticks of butter in that one!??! Yike!

Good thing I am of the mind set that I only want a "small taste."

(yes, that means half the pan!!)

I have a different recipe for a very simple apple kuchen, but I cannot seem to locate that one. Today's kuchen had all that junk on top, you know .... that chopped walnut, brown sugar and butter crumbly stuff.

It did come out tasty!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I love the strussel topping( brown sugar, butter, walnuts, flour, oatmeal)
I also top apple pie with it.
I use part sugar and psrt splenda when I bake.Eases my consience a bit.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I have never tried Splenda® ..... I think I read somewhere that they swap in molecules of chlorine to chemically create it.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing, I haven't a clue.

Things like that make me think of those vintage Mad Scientist movies. So, naturally, I am afraid, very afraid.

I am still "young," so naturally I don't have a conscience, yet! :-

Here's some info on chinooks and chinook arches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinook_wind

Re: clematis stolwijk gold I haven't seen it anywhere else either. Gardenimport is an excellant supplier for product but they are pricey IMHO. I only buy MUST HAVEs from them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats what I figured.
Google didnt show any other nursery except for one in England.
This is definatly a MUST HAVE.I hope it survives.
I dont mind paying a bit more for something that unusual.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

PDN has it, though I would never buy from them again.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Wow it is pricy guess it'll only be one plant, doesn't matter because there is a small trellis in the part shade.
I had intended to plant Mandevilla vines on all three trellises but cant resist the clem.
Here I go and its not even April yet.
This is the trellis arrangement now. Three in full sun.

OK and this small one near the Ligularia is where I want the clem to go

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I TOTALLY luv your trellis. Did you get them on line perchance? I still need one more for a new clemmie. Thanks.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mandevilla would survive the winter???

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I bought them from Smith Hawken , one pair small "leaf trellis" and one pair lerge "leaf trellis, that side of the house was long and bare and needed to have something of interest. I looked everywhere for something that wasn't victorian looking.
No the vine wont survive the winter, sometimes I just need annuals.
When April comes and I see the plants that havnt come back The cost will be small compared to the losses.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ge you can keep them in large containers left over from previous purchases and dig them up in the container and lug them inside for the winter. I did this for a few years until i got tired of it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Drat I don't think they ship to Canada. They don't recognize my postal code. However they have a supplier in Sante Fe NM and I'm gonna be there this winter. Perhaps I can smooze them into shipping in person. I want the Tutuer too. I think they will go well with my new gate http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5214422

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

What a great gate.My large trellises were back ordered from July ,I got them the first of October, the small ones came in july. I like them where they are without any vines on them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

This side of the house is over 35 feet long, really needed to break up the space .

Thumbnail by ge1836
Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That is a long stretch to break up. I have the same situation with the cedar fence you see through the gate. I'm using columnar cedars, mirrors and a blue nook http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5565431 at the end to try to break it up. I may hang containers/window boxes off it to. Still messing around with the design.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I love both your gates, the blue nook is beautiful.
Good luck with your plan.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - great gates. I really like the iron one.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Are there any more pictures of your gardens?
Dahlianut?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Lots but nothing fallish now as the leaves are gone and I'm pretty much frozen except for a few things sigh. I will join in and post some winter interest as they happen. In the spring I will be about a month behind you LOL. Most of the RM group is done a bloom period by the time I start except for some in MT. I like to think I extend their bloom time ^_^

Thomaston, CT

Loved the JM & the camelia, Shelly. That sunset blew me away, Dahlia! And Willie---your recipes are too good---hard to face oatmeal after that! I planted a camelia at our FL place---my airedale thought it was the BEST place to wee, then the mowing guy got too close---the next year I dug it out! And the gopher tortoise ate my lemon tree. Can't wait to see the yard this January!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice shots Victor. There is a JM at the entrance to one of our offices, that I've been going to collect seeds from, and I was there today, walked right by it, and forgot to look.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Perfect fall colors on that famous maple. Look like fire in the sun.
