She's About To.............#30

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Evening H & H’s

My day with Clemen has come and gone, it was so wonderful to meet her. She is just as pretty and sweet as she sounds in her posts. What a great time, we drove around the college for a while so Drea could see the campus; unfortunately most of the buildings were closed so she did not get inside of any. We drove back to my house for a little bit and did not stop talking the entire time. I gave her hugs for all of you and several for me. She brought me a box full of plants and cutting, just beautiful things. Drea is as sweet and gorgeous as her mom, such a pretty mother and daughter team. They were a little later than they planned getting back on the road. I drove her out to the highway around 5:15, at that point she was about 5 miles from the Connecticut boarder, so she should make it home by 7:30 – 8:00.

Audrey, that bloom is about to…. So happy you are going to get to enjoy her before the cold sets in. Your DGGD is just precious; she looks like a very happy little girl. Keep posting those pix we all want to see. I’m glad you stopped by, don’t let it be so long in-between, we miss you and we worry a lot.

Beck I hate spiffing and shining too, I’m looking for a big USA hottie map to put over my pc so I’ll always know where ya’ll are.

Ella, love the kitty in the cage, so cute.

Waving a big hottie hello to all.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Joyce.. what a find... I like lil surprises.. when I am looking for "boxes"..lol.. that's what I used to tell my kids so they wouldn't be soooo embarrassed..lolI am going out to eat also.. Hubby says we are going to eat snow crab legs.. so I'll gladly wait!! LUV those things!!

Going to get cleaned up.. I have had a wonderful day working in the yard, and it shows..on ME..LOL
BBL... ya'll be good!!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Donna... we're twins..lol... now I am really gone!!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey all, does anyone have experience with grow lights? I just bought a floor lamp and grow lights for my cuttings and new rootings, both brug and hibiscus. The bulbs get very hot. I have them about 2 ft away from the plants. I just worry about the lamp itself over heating. Will they help my cuttings grow?

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Jeanne I don't understand. Are you using a regular floor lamp with a grow light bulb, the purple kind, or a shop light? Either should be fine 2 feet above the cuttings I would think. I've never noticed that my bulbs get extremely hot, maybe someone else can help you better.

Donna, Donna, Donna.........you did not get pictures of you and Clemen???? Come on now, I'm just dying to see some! So glad you had a good day with her and Andrea. I'll bet she is very tired tonight. I am too, I keep saying I am through with outside cleanup for winter but every day I find more to do ^_^

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm using a regular floor lamp. I just noticed that the moss warms up under the lights. I can feel warmth off the lights. They are the blue grow lights from WalMart. GE's I think.

On what do you use your grow lights?

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Karen, Clemen will post a pix when she gets in tonight or in the morning. I know she is tired from the trip. I’ve still got a yard full of winter clean up to get to, Ahhhh maybe next month.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Jeanne I use regular florescent lights for my "grow lights"..I was told they were just as good. If the moss is getting hot I would definitely raise the light or lower the plants....They need light, not heat, heat is only for seed starting.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Texas Grower. That does not sound good. I have never used floor lights for growing. I always go to home Depot and get them indoor /outdoor cheap shop lights. I would be worryign about a fire or maybe an explosion. I know year sago there was somethign about floor lamps being dangerous , don't know if they still are or not.

Maybe somebody else here has experience with them. If it was me, I would take it back and get ya a shop light.

Becky how right you are, was out moving plants and tryign to balance a flat in each arm and chatting across the yard to the neighbor to get her plants cuz we gonan be bitter cold and possible frost come morning when this oak tree decided to be cute and stuck one of its roots up and darn if I didn't catch the toe of my open backed shoe in it. The shoe stayed and me and pots and plants went flat down in the driveway which is pure sand. Didn't even stop to land on the knees first, had to go for the long stretch and face first.

I had thought about going and giving the tree a swift kick, but with my luck it would have dropped a tree branch on me. Just one of them days. LOL

Donna.. So glad the three of you had a good time. Will be somethign for ya to remember for a lifetime.

happgarden. That what I love about them shelves, as I bring more stuff in and start all the seeds fromthe co-op I got I cna move them all around from kitchen to bedrooms and even down the hallways when necessary.

Beck.. Snow crabs sounds lovely. Wish I could eat them, I have to do the fake crab stuff. Enjoy your evening out. : )

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

well my cuttings are in my guest bedroom as are my new little seedlings. I don't know how I would set up a shop light in there. Maybe a florescent bulb in a regular table lamp would do. What do you think? Karen where do you have your light set up?

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

my daughter just had an idea. Why can't I put florescent bulbs in the floor lamp. The 40's only pull 13 watts and the 60's pull 23 watts. That shouldn't over heat anything. I'll get them tomorrow.

Karen I got my oil heater yesterday. It works great. It completely heats the room and not a sound out of it. A great buy.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Jeanne you could do that or you could get a $10.00 shop light at Walmart, screw two cuphooks into the ceiling, and use string to hang down for the exact height you want. That's what I did. You can raise the string higher for plants, lower for seed germination. Easy peasy, and cheap too. I'm SO GLAD the oil heater I recommended works well. I'll be buying mine this Friday. Glad I researched for once on something!

Ella, OMGAWD you made me spew out my coffee, dang nabbit! Bless your heart, I'm so happy you didn't really get hurt but I could just see you clopping along chatting and wham! Just like something I do all the time. I have a tree root that gets me on almost a daily basis even though I KNOW it's there and try to avoid it. Please be careful, but thanks for the giggle at your expense, hehehe.

Becky you're always talking about you and Lyle going to eat crab legs, which we LOVE! Where do you eat them? A chinese restaurant we go to has them sometimes, but they are horrible. I'd love a good all you can eat place cause I can eat my weight in them with melted butter...yummy

Yea I researched the DeLonghi about a month ago when I was thinking about putting one in the greenhouse. DeLonghi had the highest customer rating of them all. Worth the price.

I think I will try the floor lamp first before I go making new holes and stringing lights. I don't think my hubby would understand. But the stringing and shop light would work in the greenhouse just fine.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Please, what kind of oil heater did you get and where? Sounds like somethign that might work for me. I have been lookign for a heater that safer than having to use karosine in the trailer.

Karen.. Sorry about that. here's a napkin ~ . Hope that helps. : )

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I got a Delonghi electric oil heater at Lowes. It uses radiant heat and is more efficient. My sunroom is all glass and usually I depend on my wood stove for heat. But on days when it starts out cold and ends up warm I wanted something big enough to heat 200 sq ft. This DeLonghi does it very nicely. It doesn't make a sound because there is no blower. You never have to replace the oil either. It also has a timer so you can have it start warming up your room or turning off whenever you want during the night. It was $77. Well worth the price so far. Beats being cold and relying on electric to warm up a larger cold room.

Star, hon, I'M sorry for laughing.....It's not funny I know...so glad you weren't hurt sweetie ☺

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks bunches Texas grower. Will go and see if I can find one at my store. : )

Karen.. Go ahead and laugh. I have to laugh at me and life. if it can happen it will happen to me for sure. Will send ya dmail with a few more chuckles of some of the dumb things I have done. To long to put the post on here.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Happ, the brug is a yellow noid, one of the first ones I got, right after I found Dave's. However, I got them from a man on another brug site.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Star, I'm a great one for falling down. I trip over a piece of sawdust. I fell in July in the front yard and broke my ankle. In Oct of 2006 I fell and broke the foot. My husband says if I fall again he is getting me a walker for balance. I don't know, just something about my ankles turning. My poor family holds their breath everytime I walk on an uneven surface. If I had tripped on that pesky oak tree root I would have broken something sure as the world. I'm glad you weren't hurt.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Ella for sending me the good reading ^_^ I'm off to bed hotties, I love you all! Very tired tonight as I worked hard in the yard all day. See you tomorrow! {{{{{huggies}}}}]

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Donna... wow.. I didn't even remark about the good time I know you and Clemmie had... I am sooo rude..lol.. I was in the shower and it hit me ... sorry I am so dense sometimes!! I know ya'll had a great time though....
Ella... you sound just like me.... now I don't fall that much( watch me fall tomorrow..lol), but I have all kinds of "good" luck!!Sorry.... rotflol.. I do have a sick sense of humor.. I too can see you face down in the dirt!!..LOL
Karen.. was it you that told Jeanne about the heater at Lowes?? Is it what you have in the greenhouse??
Jeanne... I just can't quite grasp the idea of the floor lamp.. won't your plants be reaching sideways toward the light? If that is grow light s you have in there I would take them back! I had some and they didn't get hot at all.

MMMnnn ate those crab legs till I thought I would burst..lol.. and even have enough for tomorrow.. or Monday, since I am making a big pot of chili for my bro and SIL. They rarely come when they say they are... so we'll see.. we might be eating chili for awhile..

I know all you early birds have gone to bed by now... sooo I'll just tell ya'll NITE... sweet dreams!!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Gone to bed?! Dont I wish :o) I just got home from a halloween shindig with people of all ages and oh my!! LOL! We had such a blast I think I split my stitches in my tummy! lol!

played the donut on a string game with chocolate donuts, pretty hilarious to see chocolate donuts swinging in the air and smacking adults in the face :oD I, of course claimed to be on the 'disabled' list so I got to just sit back and laugh the whole evening :o) I'm kicking myself for not bringing my camera.... DD & DGS came and both were dressed as Elmo (my DD's absolutely crazy over Elmo! lol!) and they were both so adorable! The best part of the evening tho was my 10 mo old DGS staring at the three headed man all night. wasnt scared... I think he was just trying to figure that one out all night! LOL! Lots of friends had cameras tho so they all promised to email me pix... I just cant believe I forgot the camera, I NEVER leave without my camera! grrr!

Now I'm just plain exhausted and DH wants to watch a movie...so hopefully will get to bed in a few hours ~well, unless I fall asleep during the movie! LOL!

Glad Clem & Donna got to meet today and had so much fun!

oh and the scare on the floor lamps was on the halogen floor lamps that have bulbs that pint upwards, with no cover on the bulbs... dust would settle on the bulbs and eventually get hot and cause a fire.

G'night H & H's

I am back girls and boys, well more girls over here, I LOVE DONAAAA!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Becky, I had already researched the heater on google when Karen mentioned it. I saw it on the Lowes web site.

The package said grow light. Also warned may get warm and put at least a foot from plants. I don't know. I'm not trying to put light on a well rooted plant. I'm just wanting to help the cuttings and seedlings get some extra light. If they don't need it, then I won't use lights. If they do, then I'll try florescent. You tell me, do they need the extra light?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

anjl... lol.. sounds soo fun... bet you needed your pillow... and i bet you didn't have it..LOL
Jeanne... I would think the cuttings need the extra light whether from a bright sunny window or artificial light. I have a lil florescent desk lamp that works great, but it can't handle more than 1 flat of plants... or the equivalent... sooo is the heater rated for 200 sq. feet, or possibly more? You say it doesn't run on "oil".. right?. I'll need something when I get the GH up, but I am wondering if that will be large enough? I definitely want efficient
Clemmie.. I know ya'll have a wonderful time.. now where's the pic?? Donna has already said you have the pics..lol

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hee hee you really wanna see!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I have decided to use florescent bulbs in the floor lamp. It is much taller than the table the cuttings are on.

The electric oil heater is in my sunroom. I originally thought about using it in my greenhouse with an extension cord rated for heaters. But I really wanted to use My Mr. Buddy portable propane heater. I just got off a forum where a woman did just that in her makeshift greenhouse last Spring and it worked great. So I will be using Mr. Buddy. I believe it will be cheaper than using electricity. A 25 lb tank here is about $35. She used her 25lber for a month.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

My cuttings are starting to root, so happy here. I did lose "sweetheart" and I might be losing "Ollie". Sniff, sniff. The ones I put in moss have long roots on them and the ones in water are just starting to put out roots. I've got one that is all dried up on the tip, should I cut that off or leave well enough alone and see what happens?

Morning H & H’s

Guess I am making the coffee this morning; I’ve got a nice big pot of French vanilla just brewed. I need to go back and read what all I missed last night. BRB

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Beck Crabs are so yummy, I love them too, and yup twins I agree. Glad you got to go out for dinner with hubby. Hope your company shows up after all the w*&k that you did yesterday.

Ella your story about the tree root was hysterical. You have a wonderful way with words; I always get a good chuckle from your post. I am glad to hear that you did not get hurt.

Anjl the party sounded like so much fun, I have not been to one of those in years. It must have been nice to watch everyone doing all that fun stuff.

Clemen, your keeping that pix all to yourself, hope it came out good. I only got to see the preview on the camera so I’m really not sure how we looked. I’m so glad you had to make the trip here with Drea, it was wonderful to be included your day. Thank you so much for the beautiful plants and cutting I will treasure them. I will have some things for you in the spring; I’m so looking forward to doing this again soon.

I’m glad you all had that conversation about the cutting, heater and grow lights. Great info hotties, I’ll be looking into those things soon too.

Some of you southern H & H’s must have blown some of those tropical winds up here last night. It is very warm here now and will reach about 70 today, with bright sunshine. It will be good day to do a little yard clean up. I’ve got high hopes, like the ant trying to move that rubber tree plant. Tee hee.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning Donna! Pass me a cup of that French Vanilla please.... Anjl, sounds like you had a blast at the party. I remember a Halloween party once where we had to pass mini donuts to each other using only toothpicks, LOL! What a hoot! I haven't dressed up in years either, used to love it when the kids were little.

Becky, we are getting our first "below 40" Monday nite. It will be 38. I am off to buy bubble wrap today to wrap my babies tomorrow. Boy I tell you, I wish money would replenish as fast as I spend it, hehe! Seems like there is ALWAYS something I just have to buy, for the greenhouse, house, etc. That's what I should have asked for on my "one plant wish", was a MONEY TREE! Only sorry I didn't think of it!

Clemen I'm so glad you and Andrea had a good day, saw Donna, and got home safe. I can't wait to see pictures! Did Andrea like the looks of any of the schools so far? Give Copo a kiss from his Auntie Karen. Lily is still gone...don't look like she's coming back, but I gave it to God and just asked him to be with her wherever she is.

Becky I envy you on those good crab legs! I went to sleep thinking about them! We used to have the best in the world all you could eat seafood restaurant here but it burned down and they didn't rebuild. It was served family style instead of buffet, and they brought huge steaming platters of everything to the table. Man I miss those days....

Hope everyone is waking up to the best day in the world!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Morning morning my dear hottie friends! I got home later than I expected yesterday because some lady up in RI kidnapped me for an extra 1 1/2 hour, hee hee, I actually loved it! I was supposed to leave by 4 and I jusy could not do it. I fgot home and DH deceided to take me out to eat and I did not wanted to go out, so he twisted my arm and gragged me out of the house, hee hee.

Anyway, Donna is such a wonderfull sweet and beautiful person inside and out. Thank you Donnita for going out of your way and taking me around the school campus and showing me your lovely home. You have a great place there! I must also inform you all that Donna looked fantastic and up and running. I have a feeling she will be running the marathon soon, lol!

Karen I will give Copo a kiss later from you when he wakes up. Can you believe the little thing did not say hello to me yesterday when I returned from the trip. He must have been mad at me that I left him all alone with his father! I am still hoping that Lilly will return to you.

Andrea loved Providence College, the one near Donna not as much since we did not to get to go into the buildings at all because the school was closed. She is applying to PC this coming week, the deadline to apply is next Sat. So today we need to wrap things up and get everything in place.

So that pretty much wraps my trip, it was well worth it and the highlight of meeting Donna even better!

OK ready for the pic, hee hee!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

****Karen tapping foot***** well, okay we're waiting Clemmie!

I think I got everything..lol... Lyle just left to go to Anahuac... for you TX girls that know where that is... It's their Fair time, and the Pig show is today. He still has the pigs in his blood sooo bad...hehe...well I still kinda like them too!! BUT...

Karen... ahh french vanilla.. sounds good... I haven't had a flavored coffee in soo long!!... I kinda worry about wrapping the brugs with bubble wrap in our area, with our fluctuating temps all winter. I think I remember Caren saying her's died from the bubble wrap! Soooo I'll let you be the guinea pig! We were predicted the other night to get down to 39, but I don't know if it made it.. now we are in the low's of the 50's for this week! I can handle that!! BOY... I'd like a restuarant that did that..lol... The one I am talking about here used to be all you can eat, but then real quick they changed to what they serve now, and now they only have it on Saturday nights! Hope they don't quit all together!!
Money..lol... reminds me of my son when my kids daddy left, and I was worried about money!! Now keep in mind Timmy was 17 at the time... but he said.. Momma what do we need money for .... when we have the checkbook????....DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!...LOL OK.. gonna lurk just a bit.. finish my coff and then have to get up wehther i want to or NOT!!...LOL

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Aw Donna, we know how beautiful you are, I've seen your pic before and you are so pretty! I am not surprised it was Clemen's idea, that little Latina rascal!

Hey Bonnie! I've been missing you sweetie pie!
