Pixie, that is gorgeous!
Let's Talk Turkey
The problem is a weird soil combination and oak roots. We have soil that has a lot of lime in it (it also has a lot of building junk buried in it even after 50 years) and a foot to a foot and a half down we have a thick clay pan. And even thought we are on a small hill when it rains we are very soggy. Also we have pecan tree and a water oak tree, the oak makes planting any thing in most of the yard a hopeless task. The one good bed has my Amaryllis. I am going to try to grow daylilies in pots next year. Most of my plants are in pots.
Thanks Carrie
I'm sorry wren, what about a raised bed?
I am looking into that to. But first comes my green/shade house for my epis. Then i have to find a way to keep those darn oak roots out.
wren, is that live oaks?
In the same family. "Quercus nigra" grows more up right than the Live oak "Quercus virginiana which is the one that sprawls both are very shallow rooted
Oh, wren! I feel so bad for you. Our gardens would be lost without our daylilies. And we keep purchasing more every year. I think pixie's idea of raised beds is a good idea.
I plan on doing a raised bed as soon as I find some one to help me. We have a grower of daylilies down in Greencove Springs, so I can get them. I may move the amaryllis to the raised bed and plant dayliles in their bed.
Oh! That's a good idea! Good luck, and I hope you find someone to help.
Oh if I could afford the ticket i'd fly down there and help you!! Boy the things i'd do to be able to sweat. It was 28° this morning....I miss sweating!! lol
It's already up to the 70's this morning but feels like it is in the 80's. I would love no to sweat.
I love the change of seasons. Just would prefer a much shorter winter.
I agree, Victor.
I would like longer spring and fall. down here if you blink you miss them.

I don't know if this will work, or if it is too late since a frost, but yesterday I finaly got around to cleaning up the last of my containers. I emptied out my corkscrew vine, and found a bunch of tubers. I have them in the garage to dry, and will see if they grow next year. Has anyone done this before? This was my first time growing corkscrew, and I grew them from seed. Plant files doesn't mention tubers.
I never grew it, but if I did I would pair it with a grapevine.
I do have some type of wild grapevine that I cut down evey year.
Corkscrew and (wine) grapes...Hee hee. Wish I could help with the question.
I knew what you meant! I don't really care for wine.
Not sure I even like the corkscrew vine, the flowers were nice, but didn't bloom til late Sept if I remember correctly, and the vine itself is only so so. But when I saw all the tubers I was surprised.
I knew you knew!
Funny!
Deb-Guess it's worth a try.
Anybody see Kitchen Nightmares this past Tues???
I don't watch it but my son's girlfriend likes it.
The 1st episode was at a restaurant near us. We had actually done a refrig job for them last year(good thing their check didn't bounce)
That's kind of cool, unless you ate there a lot and it wasn't good.
Never went there, thank God. Now I may consider it.
