Morning All,

Happy Anniversary Kathy and Mike!!!!

Waiting for more pix from RU..........................

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Just checking in here... been getting all my cuttings in some dirt, and I'm almost done. I've identified almost everything, but there's a few I still have no clue what they are. After everyone passed out what was spoken for yesterday, and others picked up what they wanted of what was left... people just started shoving things at me, and I don't know what all I have... no tags, no labels... it got confusing for a while. But, I'm easily confused sometimes... so, no big deal. Don says just stick it in the ground and see what happens... so, that's what I'll do.
So far, this is what I got yesterday.

Haight Asbury Hybiscus cuttings
White shrimp plants Cuttings
Lady Margaret Pass. cuttings
Maypop Pass rooted
Pink Althea cutting
Lavender Althea cutting
Dbl Pale Pink Althea cuttings
Dbl Purple Althea Cuttings
Sweet Potato Vine rooted
Red bud tree rooted
Lemon Grass rooted
Lemon Eucalyptus rooted
Acacia, but I don't know the name of it.
BRUGS, BRUGS, BRUGS cuttings.
West Texas Mist Flower rooted
Indigo Spires rooted
Pink dwarf canna
orange butterfly bush rooted.
Datura seeds
Lion's Tail seeds (from Phyllis)
other seeds galore... and bulbs
then some things I haven't identified yet... and some I'm sure I forgot to list.

I really made out like a bandit... was going oink oink all day long.

btw... was my plan not to leave there with any brugs... wanted to see how I did with the 4 I already have, since I haven't had a bloom yet... BUT, Maggie and Ken had other plans for me... somehow, someway, they had a way of NOT letting you say no to their generosity... such wonderful people.

OH, AND Phyllis is SOOOOO wonderful too... her house is just beautiful... she's done so much in a year in her landscape... and I love her to death...
BOTH of the DG sistahs I met this weekend are such joys to be with... I've been really blessed to have had the chance to meet them.

I need to downsize the pics I took, then I'll post them... give me some time... ok?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

OMG!! BJ, I'd be feeling like a thief raiding a greenhouse, but with the owners posting a sign saying "Take All You Want, Just Enjoy Them"!!!!

So envious you get not only to meet Sis, Joyce, Audrey and Deborah, but now LK and magnanimous Phyllis!! Lord, I'll have to wear heels to hug all their necks!!!

Take your time BJ, we are off getting more boards. BBL!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

BJ, girl, please, you have some mighty fine plants there!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Happy Anniversary Kathy and Mike!♥

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

WOO HOO... HI Deborah !!!!

Happy Anniversary Kathy and Mike... make it a wonderful day...

Don turned the sprinklers on where I'm trying to get some things in the ground... so, I'm taking a longer break...

BTW... I leaned how to take cuttings of some of my plants here, so I'm going to try to have some things to share next time...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm still struggling on making cuttings root. Water rooting works on some plants, but it's the sandy loam and misting the cuttings I have a hard time with. Someone suggested I bag the cuttings for a tented greenhouse effect. I think I need to try that for some of mine this time around.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Whoo Hoooo! What a great time to check in! HELLLLLLLOOOOO DEBORAH! WELCOME BACK! MISSED YOU, SISTAH!

Can't catch up with this chatty bunch - doesn't take much to get too far behind. My computer is in the shop and I'm on DH's MacIntosh. Not very good on it so won't be posting much.

CONGRATULATIONS, PHYLLIS! Never a doubt you would get the promotion.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, KATHY!

Jaye, Leisure Arts is based here in Little Rock. Wonder if they have some kind of outlet?????? May need to check into that......

YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF QUILT ENABLERS! You should be ashamed of yourself. I didn't get the rag quilt finished before helping DD in the booth yesterday. Lacked getting it clipped and laundered. So I took it with me and worked on clipping while sitting in the booth (tent) which worked well because it drew attention. Lots of women came over to see what I was doing. We raised $85 by raffling it off for $1 per chance. I had a tote I'd made DD to show them what it looks like after it is washed and dried. Now I need to wash it so it can be delivered to the winner. She was very excited when I called her.

It was a long day yesterday - drove 40 minutes to meet DD at 6:30am to set up the tent for her booth at the city's 'Old Time Days' celebration/craft fair on the town square. There was a big crowd and we had a good time. I'll cheat and copy/paste from another post to share what we did.

I spent all day with my daughter 6am-5pm manning a booth to raise $ and awareness for a dog rescue organization she works with. It works closely with her local city Animal Control office to find homes for dogs before they are euthanized and encourages adoption from shelters rather than buying from puppy mills. What an education I got! She has developed relationships with many local politicians trying to get appropriations for Animal Control Services and to help pass animal cruelty law that would make serious cruelty a felony rather than the misdemeanor it is now. (did you know the FBI made the connection between serial killers and animal cruelty back in the '70s?) She also networks with other shelter groups, Humane Societies, and Animal Control offices. They all stopped by to visit and it was interesting. One woman who is the director of the Animal Control Services for the neighboring city with a very high adoption rate went into great detail about euthanization techniques, drugs used, pros/cons, preferred practices, shortcuts some offices use to save money, why every dog cannot be saved, etc. She's amazing - pretty much single handedly educated her community on the importance of adopting and need for funding so that the city passed a sales tax earmarked for Animal Control Services only. That's a miracle in itself!

Any who ... it was interesting to see my child interacting with all the political candidates (this was her city's biggest community fair for the year) and questioning them about funding issues, etc. She's got the city police and county sheriff involved. I'm so proud of her! Forgot - I made a quilt to raffle off for donations to the cause and it was a big success. She raised more money that way than just asking for money. It was a fun day.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Woo Hoo... sounds like everyone had a nice weekend... congrats Debra on having such a wonderful daughter... I know you're proud to have one that gives of herself so much to those helpless critters.

Well, girls... here's some pics I took at the RU

First was a group shot... this is everyone (I think) that attended the ETRU.
Dave is top row (standing) on the left, next to him is Phyllis.

Here's the lunch spread... we all pitched in to have one DGer to bring bbq, then we all brought side dishes... was quite a spread..

Thumbnail by bjwilson
Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Then we all went to Maggies for a free for all... take all you want... plant give away... this is just one path, one tiny section of her gardens... you can get lost in there.

Thumbnail by bjwilson
Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Phyllis looks like she's got her eye on some plant to get a clipping of... she's got the clippers on ready to start snipping...

Now, go back up to the group shot, and notice what LK is holding in her arms..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Yeah!! Wooohooo alright!!
Doing the happy dance here. What do you call it Debra? The "stir the pot" dance? Yeah, stirring the pot dance for sistah Deborah! Deliriously intoxicated with happiness that you are here!!

Debra, your DD will make her mark in the animal kingdom, besides being a responsible citizen. More should be like her. Animal welfare is our responsibility. There are a couple of puppy mills here that make me sick. Like one that breeds so called t-cup chihuahuas. Don't people know they're not sanctioned as t-cups are not natural and will only result in those poor babies having more health issues?

BJ, is LK holding her grandbaby? Or is that child one you've both kidnapped??? Lolol!! So, you all get to rub shoulders with our own celebrity Dave?
Lucky gals... yes I've heard of Maggie's generosity from other DGers. She had offered to send me more brugs for the ones that got 'lost'.

Deborah, we've missed you sistah.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Nope.. that's not her g'baby... just one she got to cuddle at the pavillion... she was a real cutie... good baby.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

While I was on vacation last week I went to an old German Resturant in a town called Cross Village right on the bluffs of Lake Michigan. Opened in the 1800's they serve authentic German food and have lovely gardens. You get a great view of the Lake from their back gardens here are a few pics of the Fall garden in Northern Michigan.
Theis is their big front garden (my travel buddy in the pic).

This is the side yard at Legs Inn with some ethnic art and more of there large garden acres. The temperature was in the 70's and they wont get hight color for another few weeks. It seems that color is late near the lake and at peak inland.

For those of you who don't get any Fall color where you are I thought I would share. Reds and orange were the colors this year; yellows were not much in evidence.
Lord, I LOVE having four Seasons!!!

Thank you Janice.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

OH MY GAWD... Those colors are soooo beautiful... what a nice garden to go spend a day with a friend... I bet you and your travel buddy had a wonderful day walking among those flowers...
Did you do any "stealing" ... you know, deadheading the seed heads they missed?... LOL... that's what you'd have caught me doing if I were there... I know... just can't take me anywhere....

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LOL BJ!!! You got the DG'itis baaaaaad!!!
Since I joined DG, I give plants 3rd glances! Then I always have a ziplock bag in my purse, you know ;) Just in case!!
Once I drove from Louisiana to Indiana in the fall, and I'm amazed at the beautiful colors the earth shown me. God certainly is an amazing landscape artist.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, Jaye... I did a similar drive from Huntsville Ala. to Ashville NC... spent the night, and turned around and went back to Huntsville by a different route the next day... in October... I'm sure glad they put up signs on the side of the road to remind me to "watch the road"... cause it was really really hard to do that.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
