Robin, I have to ask as I'm just going crazy trying to think about which book it might be...... What is the series part of??!!!
Garden Photos - Part 40
Jane Kelly series by Jane Bush. Patti
nice shot of the tulip tree - mine is still light green have to see if it turns - as i remember the leaves usually brown early. i planted mine off the property behind my rock wall that runs the length of the property. there is a section of woods between me and my neighbor - i've also planted a couple dogwoods, washington hawthorne, and a couple others that originally came from the arbor society. They are now 6-7 ft tall.i know my neighbor likes the woods between us - hopefully when these start flowering she'll like them better - my little way of expanding the yard:)
which of the itea do you like better - they look to have slightly different fall foliage - are they similar in spring and summer? Saturnalia.was what i wanted - the nursery did not have it only henry.
Main difference is size. Saturnalia is about six feet high. Color has more variation - more orange and some yellow. Little Henry is mainly red. Spring flowers look the same.
thanks all. You're great and funny too! I like that!
Victor, that tulip tree stands out great with the neighbors backdrop. I would love to be your neighbor only if I could come over and hang out in your yard, or if I could remove any barriers and could let your yard overflow on to mine. Otherwise, I would hate having a yard next to yours, since most anything pale in next to it!!! I don't know, maybe a theme park would hold it's own, but probably not.
Thanks for the info Robin and Brook, I'm going to have to check that out. It sounds like a great combination for me since I love "local" story settings as well as mysteries.
Bill, do you have a picture of this area that you're talking about? It sounds pretty.
I don't know what that last one is... but it might be a shot for the photo contest
edit - we posted at the same time.... the flower with the big heart is the one I was looking at

Thanks. hmmm...the post right before yours? that is a leaf of dogwood.
Ummm... cornus nutallii (sp) 'gold spot' i think. It's certainly different!
hi shelly - it is not so pretty yet - i'll take a couple shots this weekend - basically the property line has/had a row of huge 100ft. hickories with white pines, maples, wild burning bush and a couple birches as under story. over the past few years two of the hickories have come down so i am planting where these were.
Thanks Shelly. I like that multi-colored leaf.
I love the multi-colors on that leaf, RC. Little Henry has struck a chord with me, too, Victor. How tall does it get?
Only about 2 - 2 1/2 ft.
my henry's must be full grown - they are that big right now - they get wider don't they - i thought the tag said they would spread 8-10 ft if left on their own.
No Bill - I think you're confusing Henry's Garnet and Little Henry.
don't think so victor - tags say little henry - they are in nursery containers - so they will be shorter when i plant them.
i've been looking for witch hazel locally without success.
nice shots as always - would have liked to see one of you crawling on the ground for the crape!
all beautiful!
Thanks. And the tag says 8-10 feet wide, Bill??
Here's a link to the ones who introduced it:

i will have to look at the tag again. i hope the i did not get the other one you mentioned as i do not want it that big.
Bill I like that setting with the tulip tree and burning bushes. How did you get that sort of angle on the picture?
Victor, I would have liked to have seen a pic of you and the crapes as well! You make me think that I need to put my sambucus and amsonia together. I'm getting a vision of Sambucus black lace in back, with amsonia in front of it, with ophiopogun nigrescens in front of that. the only problem is that it will be another year or two before the sambucus is taller than the amsonia :-p
the window pic of yours Victor made me think to try this. Not quite the same effect.
beautiful RC.
good morning JoAnn. Thanks.
I have a question to ask, you or anyone else... I can't decide which photos I want to enter. If I posted a link to my picasaweb page would people be interested in checking it out and telling me which they like best either by posting it in a caption under the pic or via dmail? Or is that just sort of a nutty idea?
I wouldn't mind seeing what you are sending.
You have pretty good taste where thats concerned or you wouldn't be encouraged to enter, take a deep breath and forge ahead.
ah cool. Thanks sooo much JoAnn!! And I definitely am taking a deep breath and feeling as if i'm forging ahead! ok. I definitely am not sending all of these... I'm just curious to know if people have favorites.
I don't have them separated into categories or anything like that yet, maybe by tomorrow night. And I know that I'm missing some.
Anyhow, here's the link http://picasaweb.google.com/redchic/PicsForDavesPics#

man.... seeing all those nice shots makes me realize i need to practice more
haha.... That's so not true. Your hummingbird shots, among many others, are always fantastic! Thanks so much for the feedback. I really appreciate it! There's nobody here (at where I live) that has much interest in photos. The friends that are, I wont see unless i'm at work or at their place and then I don't have the photos with me. So, this was the only way I could think of to get other opinions and thoughts.

:)
they are most definitely. I'm already reading through them! It really does help. If I can even get it narrowed down to 30 I'll be a really happy camper!
