Meant to tell you about becky , Hotties' WAIT!!!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Tornadoes? A category 5, went through my town years ago, It was on all of the national news. You can still see it's path and where it went. The deaths, destruction and massive debris was horrible. Not something I want to live through again! We had to spray and clean the outside of our houses because they were not sure what was on them. And, my house was plastered.

Keith and I found family pictures, drivers license, all kind of things in our yard. Plus the stuff we did not know what it was. We were one mile away. We lost many friends during this. It was horrible, funeral after funeral, and their houses were gone.

Now, I've depressed myself. Sorry, ya'll. I will be back tomorrow in a better mood, promise!

Once again, has anyone heard from Beck?

Nite all. zzzzzzzzzz

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

sigh, now you're gone. Becky spoke with my DD and her momma was out of surgery around 4:30 and doing fine.. Becky was making phone calls.. I've been knee deep in shipping boxes and seeds and sorry I didn't get in here earlier and I thought maybe Becky would, so I d-mailed her and told her I wouldn't say anything till someone asked.. that's what I know..I didn't want to say anything cause I didn't really have her permission, and I'm so sorry I didn't get back in here sooner....

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

nite you hotties that are going to bed..welcome back Bonnie! Everything ok there?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Louise, it was just an autumn storm, no hail or wind, TG but lots of heavy rain... the brug blooms were still looking good when I pulled in the driveway, I need to go back and catch up on the thread, is everyone okay? Were there tornadoes?

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

So glad she came through it! Hopefully she is ok.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

The texas hotties were getting slammed but so far everything is ok. Karen's scarecrow flew away though, the tornado came through close to her.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Land of goshens!!!!! Cleaned up to stay on DG. I really wanted to say something much different.
Bonnie, if you know about Beck, please speak up, I have to get up at 4.

And, once again, I love you Hotties and Handsomes. Hopefully you are safe tonight, even though scarecrows are flying and the elements are scary. We can replace structures, plants, etc, but we cannot replace our Hotties and Handsomes!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I think it is called Snow White.. would have to crawl under the cannas to read the tag. the skirts are showing. It is my first in ground this year.. did not grow much ... again... spider mites.. but I am proud of it for making buds. Will take a pic when it blooms. It will get the bubble wrap treatment before the first freeze also.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I could always sing for y'all. Not sure you would like it much though. I sing a great karaoke when I am drinkin though. At least I think it sounds great after three martinis.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Louise, don't you know that when you think you're the sexiest woman there, when you tell your friends you love them over and over (not DG friends), and when you sing karoke, (unless you've had voice training), you are in trouble. One of my very younger friends explained this to me. Hills said when I decide I'm the prima donna, then I know I've had too much. And I've seen her and she is right! (((HUGS!)))! and I'm not singing. zzzzzzz

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh noooo i did not! Am I supposed to? love the jackolantern. I just picked two punkins off my vines..the only two to beat the squash bugs.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Louise I thought I was mailing u some seeds ..LOL I am so confuzzled it has been a long day

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

zzzzzzzz

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lol nite peg! Nope don't think so. i have seeds for you..in spring as requested. You probably remember that because you asked me if i wanted some.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I'm the last one up! Just got back home from moms... we watch TV late.. no open blooms yet... I turn into the drive slowly to see if any blooms are open... headlights go slowly over the brug.... just tips showing still... not a lot of blooms but I am still excited.. brugs are a new thing here in Odessa, no one has ever seen them before so having one in my front yard is definitely new.. good thing it is small.. might get real attention if it was a big plant.. only about 3 ft tall. Nite, nite everyone.

No karoke for me had baaad bronchitis last year.. can barely croak.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

GOOD Morning Hottie Dolls and Dudes! Love that jack-o-lantern Debra! I doubt I'm doing any decorating this year... to busy and too far behind... but I should at least get my screaming doormat out, it's always fun... okay, I'll bring up some of the electric jackos I have, too.. darn mat gets me more than anybody else.. I put it under the doormat out there and leave the door so I can see the faces on whoever steps on it to make it scream... hehehehe
Tammie, I've always thought we should have at least 1 brug out front, making a spectacle of itself. lol I've done it before but people around here don't stop and stare, just drive and stare... then I'd see them downtown and they asked about it...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

What? No Wolfie? Louise was on here late and Donna I hope is resting. You girls are on early and Debra too sometimes. If there's a Hottie out there that doesn't have a brug or a brug cutting and doesn't have any on there way.. speak up, d-mail me, cause we just CAN'T have a brugless Hottie, okay?? Hottie Tottie Iris, all you hotties and anyone lurking... here goes.. might have to do this in parts but I will try to stay to the point and keep in mind I am in Zone 5 but this is how I've wintered over brugs before:

I've killed more brugs in winter by too much water, (root rot) than by not enough, I didn't water one at all one year and it still produced new spring shoots (it was established and in a 25 gal tub) I also clean my basement area and spray with ortho home defense on all ways of over-wintering BEFORE bringing anything in.

Dormant: Bigger brugs with good dense root balls will winter over in a cool dark/dim place with virtually NO water and still put out shoots in early spring.. the optimum being water very sparingly every 4-6 weeks.. (I do it on holidays so I remember when I did water) This works if you whack the whole plant off (on well established brugs) or trim the leaves off and leave the stem/limbs..I spray what ever is left, even the stump and soil surface with neem/safer soap... there will probably be die-back of the stem so it can be chopped up for cuttings to use as a back up &/or for sharing. Louise has told us many times optimum temps for growing brugs is 40 degees at night and 85 during the day, but they will take more extreme temps on both ends of the thermometer. 32 will kill off top growth but there will still be regrowth from the roots.. I'm still experimenting to find a way to keep one in the ground over winter in my zone - will put a couple in the ground next spring and try the bubblewrap method next winter (like Tammie's doing in TX) one trying to keep some top growth and one just trying to get it to come back from the roots. We have days and days of 0 degree temps, so I'm not too hopeful I could save top growth but I will try with the Christmas lights.. and I'm still pondering on the technique I'll try to protect the root ball with mulch/lights/??.. (maybe a little space heater??lol, JK, not safe)

Semi-Dormant: the attempt here is to keep them alive/green but not growing (until they wake up from their drowsiness in early spring) Basically the same environment as the dormant brugs only with a little more light and a little more water on the 4-6 week holiday watering schedule.. again, I trim all but the top leaves, leaving the stem and any major limbs, depending on how you are wanting your brug to grow, tree-like or bush with many stems.. you will have some limb/stem die back probably.... I didn't try this way enough years to find an optimum to keep the stems green..

Growing in Winter: This is my 2nd year at doing this and the major problem is pests: I still trim most of the leaves and clean off with the hose.. all growth, stems I even spray the tubs/pots down with the hose and get up under the rims of the pots in effort to get all bugs/bug nests and eggs that may be hiding there.. use the jet setting on your hose, even get a rag and wipe down the pot/under the rim. Then I spray every inch of the brug with Neem and even the top of the soil. I would like to "go green" but I just don't think it's possible but I haven't tried it, (I think Kenboy's Recipe could maybe work but I just can't bring myself to sacrifice brugs to try).. I use the Bayer for Roses 2 or 3 in one, which lasts 3 months, scratched and watered in.. this year I added Bayer Advanced 12-mo Tree & Shrub Insect Control to the regimen, (dosed them in July).. I'll reapply the 3 or 2 in one again during their winter retreat. (will edit and add to this, gotta get to work) -B

thanks auntb .... i can over winter in the house in a warm lit room but i want them to get big ... the garage has gro lights and lots of other shop lights but im not sure of the low temps i doubt it gets below 40 in .there i should insulate it then it would be perfect . its a sweat box most of the time
mornin everyone ...off to the dr .i have fasting labs this mornin .i got postpartum thyroiditis ..i guess when i had my baby the antibodies attacked my thyroid causing it to become inflamed and speed up then crash .. now i have to take a pill until the antibodies are gone if ever . theres an 80 % chance if it going back to normal . its been a year so i doubt it will. the longer you are on the medicine the less your thyroid wants to work on its own . i feel great though, completely normal . thankfully my dr is good .
mom is watching the kids for me and she made apple pie from scratch so thats what ill be having for breakfast after i get done yum yum . lol ttyl

Morning Hottis and Hansomes,

My pc gave me some trouble last night and I never got back on.

Peg, sorry if I caused confusion over the blue hibs, I needed to make sure Karen and Faye was looking for the Rose of Sharon. The pix I posted is of a plant of mine. I have 2 small ones that I bought this summer. They are still in pot and I will have Lisa find them out there. I値l see if I can get some cuttings going for the spring.

Jeanne, I must have crossed post with you last night. I saw your first post just above mine this morning. Welcome to the thread, I知 glad to see you have already found the love here.

AuntB, thanks again for the in-depth description on how to over-winter. I read it again and I知 sure the girls did it all right, except I知 missing a couple of leaves. I知 going to worry about them all winter anyway.

Beck, we will be waiting for you to post this morning. I know you are tired from yesterday, so I hope you get some rest.

Louise, do you ever sleep? You are here early with me in the AM most of the time and I think you are the last to sign out at night.

I did sleep for a few hours last night; I really need these meds to wear off so I can tell just how sick I am. I知 still so spaced out it is hard to find the line.

I'm going to post this now and will not be surpised if I am 20 posts behind. I think I have been reading and typing for 2 hours.
