Noreaster, which art school did you attend?

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I went to the Corcoran College of Art & Design, in Washington D.C. It's attached to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, near the White House.

Wowee very nice. I cant imagine being on a ladder or scaffold to even try.

Your work is wonderful!!! I love it!!!

I'm blown away again---loved all the pictures, especially the bottles, & the maritime mural--it was hard to leave coastal ME last week, but having a mural would almost be like being there! Picabo--can't believe someone else had a WPG--Oliver is sooo goofy! But he loves the kids! DIL is thinking of tiles of him running through a meadow, pointing at a pheasant or something! Ask your daughter!

What a thread! This is, in my opinion, a real people learning experience. I had to go back to the top and see who started the whole thing. Grampapa, thanks for poking those creative NEsters. I've enjoyed it so much, and suspect there will be more pleasure here.

Oh, schickenlady, you mentioned hoarding stuff.......Well, I have to admit I have a ton of seashells I collected on Florida's Gulf Coast from the past 3 years making trips there, and I've made some frames and a wreath out of them. I have been planning more such stuff, but no time, no time! I also like to decorate eggs, making scenes inside them (especially goose eggs and such). I have tons of supplies for making these, but have yet to get to it. My sister in Alaska makes great eggs, and this year she has sold quite a few. She is very good at it.

Betty, your Woolie Nelson and Regis paintings are great. Your raku tile wall hanging is wonderful as well. I love ceramic work and have done a lot myself.

ROBINDOG, I love your botanicals. Very nice!

Boojum, I've told you this before, and I'll tell you again, I love your pastels, watercolors and tiles. Excellent work!

Laura, your watercolors are fantastic! Lovely!

Noreaster, your murals are gorgeous. Love your dog sculpture, too. I painted my room with a combo of sponge painting and hand painting. I cut out silhouettes I drew of wolves, and the trees in the border were hand painted. I used southwest colors, as I had spent 4 years in Arizona and fell in love with the southwest style. I did this in my room in my father's house. I was really happy with how it came out.

As to the answer to what is art, that happens to be different for everyone.

Here is the painting on part of my wall, which covers the whole room.

This shot and the last one shows my Arizona license plate. Here is a closer shot of it.

And one more with a poinsettia one Christmas. The bottom part of the wall, below the border, was made using one of those textured double rollers that you put 2 different colors of paint on.

I never tried that double roller... looks nice though.... I did mine with just lambs wool.... and two different paints... everyone is amazed when I tell them... they all think it looks like I used more

but if you can do those graphics with horses... I would hire you

Wonderful walls! I love the gradation on each of the wolves and their great movement. I lived in AZ for 2 years during grad school 10 years ago and I sure get it. Is that a saguaro skeleton on the floor? I took bags and bags of stuff like that home with me to MA.

And that terracotta marbling on bottom is super. What technique did you use on that??? I love that part because I'm always trying to reproduce things Italian.

doing it with the fancy paint rollers might be easier than doing the fancy plaster

Really nice, Karen--love the wolves!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, you guys. Allison, your texturing came out great. And yes, I do horses. I have done many a ceramic vase with horses cut out at the top and the bottom part sponged like I did with the wolves on my walls. Sold many of them, too, privately and wholesale to shops in Scottsdale, AZ. Have not done any ceramics since moving back to MA (I was raised here in Halifax). I found some photos of 2 vases I had done. I outlined the horses on top that were cut out in gold, and I used a textured glaze, which is flat with shiny specks in it. I've done variations on this theme with different animals and such. I'm going to scan more pics and post later tonight or tomorrow. Wish I could get into doing this again. I had a lot of fun doing this.

Boojum, the terra-cotta marbling on the bottom was done with the textured double rollers using 2 different color paints together at the same time and blending them. Very easy to do, and the effect is very subtle with the colors I chose.

Here is a large pillow vase I made with horses.

Here is a round vase I did with horses. No room on the bottom to do the silhouettes. I made more of the round ones than the pillow vases.
