We were sidetracked in the Garden Photos thread and showing some photos of art work. Victor suggested we have a dedicated thread to showcase our talent :0)
It doesn't matter what medium you work in. Please join in.
Someone in the previous thread asked about my painting my roses. Here's a watercolor of 'Mr Lincoln', a rose I no longer have
edit to add: here's a link to the thread where this started if you'd like to see what was already posted

Artists in the NE forum - show us your work
and because I want to encourage other than 'fine arts' here, because I know there are many other talents out there, here is an original design quilt titled 'Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend'. It is an attic windows pattern, each block is cross-stitched in a design by artist Paula Vaughn and contains a quilt. And each block is dedicated to a female family member or friend who is important to me.
Beautiful, Jan! The quilt is a very nice idea.
thank you, Victor.
but we know you have other talents :0)
Thanks for this thread.
Wow! So much talent here! MaypopLaurel also does beautiful quilting and needlework.
I'm so embarrassed that I have nothing to show. Ugh. I went to art school! What am I doing wasting my time?!
JoAnne, your small works capture rural America in autumn. Do you sell or just show?
I have work in two local galleries.
Had a solo show in May.
Art Sales are slow as of the past ten years.
It's not the living it was in the eighties and nineties.
I miss the life and am glad to be able to paint what I want to now.
I just sent for paper and matboard for the nextt year or so and the bill is $350.00 I need to sell something over the holidays to pay for supplies.
The enjoyment of painting is what counts, not weather it sells or not.
Your rose paintings are really very nice.
I can see the joy you get from the intimet connection to a plant you love.
Schikin:
Any expression with any medium should be welcome here.
JoAnn, thanks. and I know exactly what you mean. my college art teacher 1) tried to get me to switch majors - I was in computer science 2) wanted me to sell the small floral watercolors I did for her class. I knew I could never make the money in the art field I could with a computer degree. I wasn't a kid of 21-22, I was 40 when I got my degree with a husband and teenage son headed for college himself. and I didn't want the pressure of trying to sell the paintings even if I could. I paint for myself and I was drawn to watercolor because of the awesome way it translates the plant world to paper.
here's another from that same series of paintings (this was the teacher's favorite, mine is the rose)
You were smart to choose the field you did Grampapa.
Your career has a longer life than the one I chose that depended on the popularity of original art work.
It was great in its heyday but has declined since the late nineties.
Artists are born that way han have to be involved in some sort of creative activity.
I paint foe myself and garden. Retired just when the art business was waining.
Oh my goodness and throw in a few graciousnesses. lol There is so much creative talent on this forum. I am just an interloper, but one of your very own, Boojum, is also a fantastic artist (among many others). There are designers by profession, retired art teachers and hobbyists all over this forum. I hope all the wonderful, creative folks I have met here will add to this thread.

Jan and ge, both of you have a lot of talent. I really like what you've posted here.
Ge, I know what it's like to try and make a living as an artist. Some people are able to catch a big break and become famous, but they are few and far between. What always bothered me, especially as I tried making a living selling ceramics, and they don't go for as much as the fine arts, is that people just weren't willing to pay for the time you put into it. I would put as much as 30 or 40 hours of work into a ceramic piece, not to mention that fact that it would have to be fired 4 times. Well, I could go on and on about that, but I better stop here.
I thought I would share some of my cartoon style art.

This is something I did back in the 80's, a stationery design for a mail order company I started selling only fantasy/sci-fi designs. Didn't last very long. I wasn't good at running a business to begin with. Didn't really know what I was doing.
My DD would love that stationary, Nuts.

Here is Dally with a pretty girl. It was originally a rough sketch that I scanned, then cleaned it up in Paint Shop Pro 8, then added the hearts using the picture tube feature. Took a long time to finish it, but I had fun doing it. This is something I spend the long, boring hours of winter doing.

Here's another sketch I scanned and cleaned up. I actually never quite finished cleaning it up, but unless you zoom in close you really can't tell. Patches is my sweet dog. She is half Basset and half Dalmation. She loves to hunt those critters in the picture and does pretty good at keeping them out of my gardens when she is out there with me.
And then here is my logo for the LA, using photos of my DL's from my gardens. I designed this on PSP8.
I am off for a bit, but hope to come back and see lots of creative posts. Thanks for sharing, Nuts. it's great to see work from other creative folks. Who is Patches? Sounds like you fell off the art wagon. Need to get up and rediscover your inner Picasso? Just do it.
Laurel
Gorgeous, Nuts. Now I'm outta here.
Laurel
wow Patches is some mix.... looks cute
