Beathoven kept a spinster in his attic or was it a spinet. I wonder if Monet painted nude hockey moms. If I had one of those I could up my retirement accounts right now. They are down a bit don't you all know?

I have to confess I didn't read the entire thread ( it's a long one) but here are some of my watercolors I can't beleive I just noticed this thread!

Very nice, Laura!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Laura, I'm so glad you found us! I really appreciate the one of the bottle collection. Probably because I know how difficult they are to capture. 'The Bus Stop' is adorable. But the portrait of Jack and the boys is very touching. you are talented and versatile as well. thanks for sharing.

I like the sandwich library. How long before you have to return them?? Half-eaten?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

nice paintings laura

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Great paintings, Laura. I especially like the one of Jack and the boys. I'm kinda partial to boys. I like how they are engrossed in a book instead of the view, which I am imagining was gorgeous.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

amazing - Jack and the boys is my favorite. Thanks so much for sharing

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I like that one best also. Reminds me of me reading to my boys!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Great illustration work!

Wayland, MA(Zone 6a)

Great work, everyone.

I went to art school and majored in fine arts (specializing in etching and painting). After graduating, I went to work for a studio doing murals and wall finishes and other sorts of decorative painting and that's what I do now as a self employed person. I don't feel my art now relates at all to what I did in school and I'm sure my teachers would be disappointed that I haven't really persued my own art. But, I have to make a living, so here is what I do. I also have illustrated a couple of books on dog care/training, and various logos...I've gotten into more graphic work in the years that I've discovered computers.

This was a mural I did last winter for a private residence

That's beautiful, nor, and certainly nothing to be anything but proud of!! Wish you were closer - I can use your talent.

My one and only sculpture is a statue of one of my dogs I made for the garden

Thanks, Victor. I'm just glad I can eke out a living. And I do get some nice projects sometimes to work on. Sometimes I do feel like I failed my teachers and myself by not painting more for my own pleasure, and with my own style/vision. One day, one day....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm sure you will.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Noreaster, I love the Statue and the Murals. Art is art no mater where we create it. What did you use to make the statue?

Jack and the boys look so much like my son and Grandson. The GSs are about that age and love for Dad to read. Great watercolor work.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Picabo- I made the statue out of clay first, then made a mold and cast it in a mixture of Portlan Cement, sand, and some finely crushed up perlite. I wanted it to have a rougher surface, like the hypertufa pots in my garden.

Here are a couple other projects of mine.

This one is a quote from Alice in Wonderland, and it's in the seating area of a kitchen. They had swans in the marsh outside the window, so that's where those came in.

This one was hard to photograph, because the background was pearlescent pink...

That's gorgeous!

This one is an Italianate sort of design.

Thanks Victor, the swans and the shell piece belonged to the same client, who is moving to a new house. They are renovating it, and there should be some great project possiblities there for me, which I'm excited about....especially because things are really slow right now in this business.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I guess the slowdown is making people put off things like that. Hopefully, it will pick up soon for you!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Noreaster, I am LOVIN the murals, especially the maritime one.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Love the Murals. What beautiful art.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow.... those are really pretty Nor... you have an amazing talent

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

You have taken my breath away! That mural is amazing. I think I would just sit and gaze upon it for hours. To have such a talent....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Those are great pieces Noreaster.
Get ridd of the guilt about not being a wealthy studio artist.
There aren't many of those, who dont have another source of income,a spouse or annuity.
Your art teacher taught to make a living.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful work!!! My DH is in love with the deer one naturally.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

Noreaster, your art teachers would not at all be disappointed in what you are doing!!! Making a living "doing art" (as they say) is tough. As the daughter and sister of self-supporting artists, I feel I am qualified to say this!!! Remember, artists have always had to do what their "sponsors" have wanted: from Pharaohs to Popes who wanted their houses of worship decorated, to the royals and elitists who wanted their portraits done, we all have had to "compromise". In working within those restraints, some of the greatest art on earth has been created!!! Remember, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael (among others) were hired to decorate walls. Not bad company!

You are incredibly talented!!!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

........yea I say unto you, " I know a few starving artists who refuse to down age fifty year old subjects to the thirty year old beauty they once were". " I also know some who do that all the time and feel no guilt what so ever". Different strokes for different folks.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Laura and Noreaster.......your work is fantastic! Once again I am blown away by the talent of you two and others in this forum. Amazing.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Wow, Nor, your work is AMAZING!

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Thank you all so much for the kind words!
