I'm going to keep doing this till somebody wakes up and talks to me.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

No sew faux roman shades I made. My aunt made me take them down when she first saw them. She sewed a hem on the raw edge of the fabric.

This is no sew too. Just fabric fan folded then draped across two swag hooks. The trim is safety pined onto the edges. It's only tacky if you know how to sew.

That lamp shade is full of straight pins. Don't dare touch it.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

This seat cushion is just plain foam wrapped like a present. It too is full of straight pins on the backside. Don't turn it over and sit on it. The trunk was both my boys toy box (age 32 and 27 now). I didn't have the heart to put it in the shed when I re-modeled (spruced the place up, and like what Marion said about the 70's just being a step above the light on a string LOL). That trunk holds family pictures.

Breakfast room. Yea right. If this room was in a house in the north, it would be called the mud room. Great place to fold clothes and iron, that's about it. The table hidden under the cloth is a claw-foot duncanphif something or another. Anyway, it's been handed down. The chair cushions I recovered. Used a staple gun this time. The walls are Olive and so is the trim, just in a darker shade. The kitchen cabinet doors were taken off and completely refinished, my little old me. There use to be dark stained maple. Cleaning, sanding and using oil paint 'bout killed me. Larry said everyday, you messing up, but can't tell you nothing. He did say he couldn't believe it when I got through. I was proud of the hard work. I do admit I thought I had bit off more than I could chew.

My brother's china hutch he built me. It was his first proud woodworking attempt in solid pine. He had a fit when he saw it painted. He doesn't realize that I had enjoyed it as a fine pine piece for 30 years. I used the same color paint as in the kitchen. It fits the dining area but I had left it pine, it would be out in the shed.

The foyer, start of the hall, what you see when you open the front door. We don't answer the front door I don't know why we have one. Back door guest are best. That's Kaly the cat, my gardening hat and apron, (Marion, get yours dirty too) and a hand me down wooden bench/hall tree. Those pictures are of Larry's grands. The calendar is 1936 store advertising calendar of his families grocery store, where Elvis Presley came and got a coke out of the ice box back in 1956-57 on his was to Fla on Hwy 41here in Crisp Co. Y'all can come to my house and touch it.

The den, living room, great room, it's where the big tv is. My roof leaks. That door leads to the sunroom that used to be a partially screened porch. Dogs and kids had run through it for 30 years so we finally replaced it with glass and extended central heat and air.

Leaving the dining room stepping down into the den.
Y'all are sleeping late. I'm taking a bath now.

Oh wow I got to be the 1st to take a tour thru your beautiful home. Just beautiful.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh my, for someone who doesn't sew, you've done some fantastic decorating, Deborah. Your window treatments are beautiful. I love, love, love your colors in the kitchen/dining room. You really are talented. That was a wonderful idea to cover the top of the toy chest with toile. So many creative ideas! I've got to go back and look again. Your gardens are inspiring. Your home is beautiful inside and out. But,of course it would be - just like you.

Congrats on the win, Jaye! Yes, Arkansas did play yesterday. Well, let's say they showed up to the stadium. They didn't play anything that looked like football. Were you referring to me or Deborah about the decaf coffee? Not me! I drink the leaded kind. It's hard to believe one cup can make such a difference - I rarely drink more than one cup in the morning - but we left so early in the morning and were in a hurry when headed to the airport for Canada recently that I forgot to drink my one cup of coffee. I had a horrible headache that would not go away. Finally figured it out after lunch - missing that one cup of coffee caused the headache. Pitiful.

Foggy and trying to drizzle here. Maybe it will make me stay inside and get something done.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Phyllis, I forgot to mention your wood bowls. They are gorgeous! My DH is partial to wood bowls and collected a few from craft shows. He always wanted to do something like that but has too many interests now to start any new ones.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Wow thanks for the tour of your lovely home and garden!!! And I love the no sew window treaments...might just copy it : )
Phyllis I love your wooden bowls too!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Good Morning ladies.

Deb, I love the pics of your house. We had dark wood paneling here too when we bought this house... but we don't have good windows to let a lot of light in, so it was really really dark in here. We went through and painted all the paneling a light color so I wouldn't feel like I was in a cave. I'd give anything to have lots of windows to let light in.
Only room with windows here is the sun porch... 23 of them... but that doesn't help the other rooms in the house at all.

Phyllis, Ennis isn't exactly "by me"... but you could go right past my house getting to there, sort of, if you go out hwy 31 to get there.

Someday, I would love to learn to do stained glass... but not today... I'm way in over my head already.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, yea... I've been trying to get Don to do some wood bowls on his lathe... but so far, I'm not using the right key words to get him going on it...
Phyllis, your wooden bowls are lovely...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning Kathy....is that your turkey? or is that the smaple you got from Wally?

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh Phyllis-I love your bowls and your stanied glass-I hope you are my 2009 buddy-I will take some bowls and a staned glass peice that has a blue iris and purple iris amongst grass!!LOL

I am feeling better everyone-thanks-it was NOT pretty though-the rash went from my cheekbones to mt brest bone....

Deb-thatnks for the pics-Loved meeting your kitty!!

Mom has been trying to get me to learn to sew, she got me this teeny little sowing machine a few yrs. back-it is cute, but so light it moves all over....maybe one of these days I will get into it-mom is looking to move here after she retires, so I am sure that is something that we can do together then...

I really want some homemade roman shades to replace the ones I have-they are red and don't really go with what we have for decor-I need 1 fopr the kitchen and 3 for the bay window in the living room:)

Deb-do you have a pic as to what butter eggs look like?? I have golden aphids galore on my scarlet milkweed and want to spry them w/ soap solution, but am unsure if I have butter egs on the underside of the leaves and don't want to hurt them..

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Wonderful tour Deb ..knew I should have stayed up when I let the dogs out at 6:30 LOL

Morning girls and thanks for the comments on the glass and wood.

Bj I'll look for some pics and videos on how to do it with a lathe as I did find alot on using one instead of doing it the way I did....or maybe tell him you are going to give it to me to use for making bowls ...ROFL...as a joke of course

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Seriously-if you aren't my buddy I would pay for some stained glass Iris!!;)

Morning:)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

LOL I had to go back to the last thread to make sure I was putting the right name here Stacy.

I can't say who my buddy is at this time but I will keep your request in my mind just in case ☺

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good Lord, you girls are so chattyyyyyyy...............

LOl

I finally caught up wit this thread, now I have to find the others.....
Lovey rooms, lovey decorations, and lots of talented ladies out here!!!
I wish my house was big enough to do things like that.
When I met my hubby, he was/is living in this little bitty 526 square foot bachelor pad, and he was very happy in it, but it is barely big enough for one, mush less a couple, and when I lost my Mom 2 years ago, I knew my Dad was coming to live with us, we had no choice but to expand. So we added a breakfast nook, and big bedroom out back. It is still under construction, and slow going, but it has givin us more space. And we have done it all ourselves, except the concrete foundation, we had that done by contractors. Still no drywall inside the bedroom, or siding outside, but if I keep nagging him, it will eventually get done. I'm just glad it does not get tooo cold here in the winters.
So, until my breakfast nook is done, I will use that area, to overwinter my plants...
Hubby works all day out on the hot flightline at the base, and by the time he gets home, he is so exhausted, and has no energy when the week-ends get here, due to his diabetes, So I will be patient, and know it will get done one of these days!!!

Ok, I will quit for now.
Ladies have a good day.
Linda Kay

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stacey, sorry you got a rash, glad to hear it was temporary! That is a bummer, when your allergic to flowers and bulbs!!!!!

Linda Kay

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

'Bout time somebody woke up. Glad y'all enjoyed the dime tour. Thank you liking my handy work. Almost 30 years of the same wallpaper can get old quick, and dreading to tackle the job of removing it can seem just as long. Paint is so much easier. We had a blue toile wallpaper in dining room that Larry didn't want to change. But I had hot glued and ironed the seams for the last time. Our comprise was for me to find some more toile of "something" ,so that's the reason for the black and white fabric in the den.

Staceypoo, I have the instructions on photo gallary for my faux roman shades. To make them actually go up and down for a true roman shade would require some sewing. If you want the instructions for mine JLMK. I found pictures of BST and Gulf Frits but haven't run across any Monarch eggs that I've tagged as such. Just google Monarch egg image and there you go. They are pin head size yellow beads until they start the hatch. Then they turn black. It's unlikely you'll find any empty shells since the cats eat them.

LK, enjoy your remodel and don't even worry how long it takes.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Deborah, meant to update you on our Monarch cats. I took about 6 of the dozen that I found on the little clump of butterlfy weed into the butterfly cage. The milkweed wilted so fast I didn't think I could keep them alive so I put them back outside with netting around them - this was just before Ike came through. The seemed to ride out the storm just fine but when it came time to make their chrysalis, some crawled off onto the concrete and got stepped on by dogs, others crawled onto the ground and died, one began the process but didn't complete it. We have found two completed chrysalids and I'm hoping there are a few more hiding somewhere. I hope they make it. Should I leave them alone or try to bring them in?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Awww... that's awful, Debra... what would make them crawl off like that?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning Glory my sistahs!!
Joyous day, but not for my stomach.. later on that.
Deborah, when did you go to bed?? Your house looks like a place we all can just remove our shoes and throw all cares to the world!! Soo comfy.
And as for your shade garden.. labor of love is showing. I bet you sit on that chair and look up to the sky and thank Him for His wonders many times don't you?
Stacey, too bad you're allergic to some plants. Better stick to those that won't give you any reactions. And just enjoy pics to those that do!
See that Phyllis.. we love your woodworking skill and now your stain glass. At least we know who to turn to for special orders ;)
If you got that big big headache from caffeine withdrawal, maybe I did post the name right, Debra!! You're a caffeine addict, and like any addiction, it's not good for you! I was a caffeine addict and it caused too much problems to my system. But now I limit myself to caffeine free coffee.. except for my herbal tea. Some unfortunately do contain that drug :(
LK, this house is small too, about 900 sq. ft of living space. Just for Kel is fine.. but with me and my growing menagerie, we need a bigger one. But for now, I'm happy that the roof's not leaking and we have running hot water. :D Kel says we need to quadruple the size with the collections that are growing!!!!
Butterfly 101 here... raising my hand... gonna plant parseley for them lovelies!
Sis Kathy.. you forgive me?

Okay back to my tummy. I got greedy!!!! We had Thai food yesterday, brought the rest of the Snapper Curry home, and that's what I snacked on during the game. (Oh btw Debra, sorry about Arkansas)

Did I say LSU won?

Thumbnail by heavenscape
Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Bring them in if you can. Cut some stems with leaves. The bigger cats can chew on the stems too. What instar are they and how many do you have left? You're probably in the migratory path. Yours will more than likely have the genetic gene of that last generation to head south and live 9 months.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Since I'm a Debra too, so I'll give you two reasons I can think of BJ. #1. They'll crawl off the host plant to molt, then crawl back on, and #2. they'll crawl off the host to pupate into a chrystalis. I'm probably given more info then anyone wants, but their frass is below their host plant which can draw preditors. During molting and pupating stages, they are defenseless. Other times, they can use their stink horns, squirt or gut purge to ward off a preditor.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Go Dawgs! Insomia and medidation only, Jaye.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. There are no more cats - only two chrysalids (that we've found). Should I bring the chrysalids in?

Ahem, yes Jaye you DID mention that LSU won. :) I'm dying to know what makes you an LSU fan.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Jaye silly girl you should know spicy food right before bed and during excitement will have fun on your tummy LOL..sounds good don't it?

I think Deb napped on us between 11:30 and 12:15 then from 12:15 - 3am then off and on again til 5 LOL

"Butterfly 101 here... raising my hand... gonna plant parseley for them lovelies!"
..I did I did but never thought of the butterflies when I did it to start wtih did it for cooking but then it got left alone for the butters they didn't get all the dill so I did get some seeds saved from it LOL

already told DH I need to go through the wood pile again and find some more pieces I can work with if any.
now I am headed out to the shed to work on a couple of lil things that need to get done so...... I'll be back..(in arnold S terminator voice)
LOL

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

ROLL TIDE ROLL
yes sis i forgive you.
bj, that is wally's smaple! and this is miss tashia

Thumbnail by jordankittyjo
Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Absolutely, Debra.

LOL, Phyllis, Only the "Shadow Knows".

Hey Tashia! Guard those smaples!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

So, Deborah... when I get my bed made, can I make any provisions to keep them in the bed and not crawl off into the yard to get stepped on? I'm gonna cry if I loose cats after all the work I'm putting into it.

Well, Tashia is just the cutest pup... has she met the chickens yet? Think she'll try to play with them? I'm just getting a visual of her getting an identity crisis too, and try to play with the chickens thinking she's one of them... LOL

Jaye... Moderation, dear... that goes for spicey food too.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

awwwwwwwwwwww puppy Tashia soo cute

break time had to come in for a drink...even wtih the door open in the shed it still gets a lil warm with the light shining right down on the area I am working at.

ROFL Deb

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Bj, I suggest to plant a small ornamental tree or shrub in that bed and put several pieces of garden art in there too, preferably a few tall ones. Monarchs like to crawl up. I have found chrsytalids under the leaves of a small Magnola (my experience with a Monarch-same bed just 30 ft away from the nearest milkweed), Canna leaves, rim of bird baths, an obelisk, arbor and a metal flamingo, even zinnias and grasses. I have milkweed everywhere and I still find casualities just as Debra described. Not all crawl very far without finding a good spot. Found a BST on a stripped down stem of bronze fennel with a chystalis on it. That competely contradicts the notion that they don't pupate on their host. He didn't even bother roaming unless he decided to go from one fennel plant to another.

Phyllis, Drink plenty of water, wouldn't want you to get stuck in the bathtub. Dang, I already forgot how to do the raspberry.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Coming up for air.. welcome Tashia... post when you can..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>crawling back to bed

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... Jaye's expecting Kathy to teach Tashia to type with her paws... too funny...

Ok, Deb... will have lots of tall things in the middle of the bed... with all the host and feeding plants in front of them... I can do that.
Then, when I do the secret garden... I'll plant tall things next to the fence, and the butter and hummer plants in front of them too.
