Oh, Stephanie, I love those! I am not familiar with the name, though. Looks like it might be salvia coccinea and coral nymph?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It is salvia coccinea, not sure about the coral nymph. They were supposed to all be the lighter pink color, but of the half dozen seeds I planted, I got 3 light pinks and one red/hot pink. In the cooler weather it's a bright hot pink!

I've been out collecting seeds almost every other day. I've read they readily reseed. I want to scatter the seeds in the flowerbed in the front and see what I get.

Your place will be a popular stop for nectar!
My butterfly bush has lots of insects...just no butterflies.

These guys are busy making more. Do you think it is ok to leave them or will they start spreading to other plants? There are lots on this plant already.

One of the benefits of not composting well. I had a tomato plant bearing a few tomatoes. This butterfly seems to like it too.

Everyday the limelight salvia surprises me! This is the first year I have had it. Serendipity that there are blue blooms right near the mystic spears.

Anna...those are the Milkweed Bugs. Not good if you want to raise some Monarch cats. Thump them off in a cup of soapy water if you want to get rid of them.

Thanks Sheila. Maybe they are reason there aren't butterflies on it.

Mibus ~ fall blooming asters are the pretty purple blooms... the next is a Celosia spicata ~ unknown cultivar. The third appears to be Salvia coccinea?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lovely fall colors. Most of you posting are in Texas, are any of you coming to the east texas round up, in Tyler, Texas next week-end?

oh pod they grow on more of a woody bush stem? that is what that is on

I have no idea I cant find the name on any of them as the weather has washed them off LOL

They look like baby salvias, yes!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

goodie will dig some up then and pot up LOL

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

The Salvia and the Celosia will reseed. Remember what the plants look like or else next spring, you will be uprooting the babelets. LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

but those lil ones wont make it til flowering time will they? ...the reason they are there is reseeding now LOL just this year

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

There will be plenty of seed that will overwinter. You can also shake the dried bloom stalks over paper and you will see lots of tiny black specks (at least thats what they look like without my glasses LOL). Those are the seeds. Save some to share and some to plant. It

is a steady long term bloomer. You also might be surprised to see blooms on these little guys before frost. They will wilt when you uproot them but with a bit of water will perk right up.

okie dokie thanks

This cactus is a transplant of 3-4 plants dug up 2 yrs ago from upfront. The hwy dept kept mowing the plants down. They froze to the ground the first winter and have now grown into this nice spread. DH mowed around them a few days ago and partially covered them with grass.

Are those prickly pears just now blooming? They bloom here in May or so.

Yes, I took the picture 30 minutes ago. I have a couple of other things blooming off schedule. My roses are having their usual fall blooms.

I love the Del Rio area. Haven't been there in years but remember it fondly.

Wow, I thought they were all done blooming? Guess the difference in temp, and weather makes a difference?

I don't have a clue. One of the fun things of gardening is the unexpected, at least some of the time. I'll run out front tomorrow and see if the original cactus plant is blooming.

Both cactus areas are treated the same, ignored. The one difference in the settings of the plants is the patch up front gets late afternoon sun and is shaded othertimes. The transplanted patch has some shade from the afternoon sun, otherwise is in full sun.

Very odd for a Prickly Pear to be blooming at this time of year! All of mine have ripe fruit on them, now! Something like a phenomenon!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I think DH ruined my confederate rose it was growing really nice till Ike came through and tilted it so DH thought he would be nice and try to get it up right an dug around the bottom to sink it in the ground more and it has lost leaves and no signs of blooming now :(

East of Nacogdoches, TX(Zone 8a)

Mibus, I had a tall trunk split off my Confererate Rose so I cut it into a nice piece this last spring, stuck it into some soft sandy soil (builders soil from foundation of house) and compost and walked off. Next thing I new, the thing was taking off and now is a nice tree. Here's some blooms on the self care CR. You may want to try that with yours or it just may recover quite nicely.

And Bronc, I forgot to look at the cactus patch upfront today once I got home from running around. I'll check it out tomorrow if I can remember. Ya'll have expressed such wonder, I'm intrigued now myself!

Esperanza blooming right now. I thought that was kinda late, but I don't know.
