She's About To..........#17

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

No time to catch up tonight, Siobhan is still up and I’m beat. Time for us both to get some sleep. I catch up in the morning, for now I just wanted to send a big Hottie THANK YOU to everyone.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Phyllis, that is hilarious... sure glad it was only a few dents and dings, (and the ego) that was damaged. "500 lbs, chicken feathers, I can lift it out all by myself".. ROF! Kim, our Hottie Hero, we love the little Lurker, I mean occasional poster. :P Karen? Louise? lilsista? r u here?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Sorry bout hacking up the spelling of Siobhan's name, Donna. I'll get it down, soon. Sleep Granny, sleep. OX

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hey sisters I am here for a little bit, I am so happy for Donna, healthy boy and beautiful!

As far as all of us go, what are we going to do in the winter with no brugs to talk about, I will be so so sad. I love the Spring when everything starts to come up, then the summer when everything blooms, then fall, plants still bloom and there are lots of cleaning in the yard and all, and THEN, COLD COLD COLD WINTER. I do not like that and I get, well a little sad, actually very sad, BUT, this time I have a light at the end of the tunnel, I have all of you, and that will keep me going until next Spring, when I am happy and happy and happy again. OHHHH I wish spring would be closer, but it is fall coming! But if spring is closer that means another wrinkle, lol, and I do not want one more, I am still a hottie girls all around! Good night all and lots of love from me to all, Clem

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Aunt B , is there something else I haven't told you.?

Let's see, I have State Fair ribbons for my cookies and x-stitch, I ran over my first husband (ran over him but he was not hurt), I flooded out my car in a stopped up drainage ditch and made national news, "This is not what you want to do." Quote from WeatherChannel and CNN. And after everybody saw me climbing out of that car in my work dress, and wading through waisthigh water, my DD asked me how I kept my pantyhose dry. I tried out for the Junior Olympics as a marksmen (guns). I own my own bow and arrow (70 lb. pull). I lived 3 summers in Mexico as a missionary/teacher. I'm one gray-haired skinny lady who enjoys my life. And, I am going to that concert tomorrow night with my husband, all foofooed and enjoying myself.

BUT, I want a grandbaby!! Waaaah...: Thanks everybody for sharing yours. :))

Not mysterious, just tired. :)))

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

OH! Peg, I wondered if you would get to go, just tonight and I forgot to ask, honest. I'm just so glad you are going and all foo-fooed and everthing! I hope this means you are feeling very very much better... Peggy, we just haven't had enough time to get to know things like that about you. I think interesting woman is what I meant... I'd love to see a clip of that drainage ditch mishap, is there one on the CNN website?? Ran over your 1st husband???? so were you disappointed he wasn't...... hurt? A marksperson ;) ! You have an adventurous nature to you, too! I think you are the bestest kind of person, and I'm blessed to know you. I won 1st place in a chili cookoff, and my Dad won 1st at an old time fiddling contest in which I accompanied him on the guitar (back in the 70's).. That's about the only 1st places I have.. 2nd daughter, and been 3rd wheel a lot.. lol I want at least one of those grandbabies, too. Guess I need to go find some that don't have a grandma, just a nice fun grandpa that wants a nice fun hottie like me. lol Then I can tell my kids they forced me into a relationship! Yea, that's what I'll do. Clemen you little dear, I keep my brugs barely growing in winter, I'll have some blooms to post if you don't look at my ugly basement.. we'll have plenty of brug stuff to talk about, and we can get to know each other better, too.. . I wish we could just have a little bit of kinda cool fall weather and NO winter.. but then when would I find time to clean my house? I think I'm callin it a day as well. Good Night sweet hotties (wolfie that includes you, sweaty, bathed or not)

Wow Peg, you are one crazy cool chickie! What an interesting bunch of hotties we are! Clemen we will keep busy rooting and comparing rooting notes, heh? Sounds good to me. Hey guess what hotties? Today during clean up, as I went to rake up that one green brug bloom that was blown from the back yard to the front, I noticed the bloom had turned PINK on the ground!!! I was so excited to at least find out what color it was. Just made my day better! We got quite a bit raked up and propped the cheapie old arbor back up at least so my passionflower vine would live.

My Brug leaves are pretty battered but they stood strong. Well, time for zzzzzzzz love to you all my friends ♥ sleep tight

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Peg you are awesome!!! I am not even half that interesting! I know alot about dogs and cats and I did win third prize for me peach champagne jam at the puyallup fair. Oh and I did win first prize for new poet for one of my poems. Hey Peg if I bribe you can you shoot someone in the tushy with an arrow for me? LOL just kidding! I think it would be fun to live in Mexico for a while. I spent a few years living in the Philippines.

Becky that is a mess honey! Karen my brugs look a little tattered too, boy those brugs with those giant leaves were not meant to ever be in high wind!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Louise you and I will have to chat sometimes...My best friend lived in the Phillipines for a long time, 10 years or so as a single woman. She even farmed in the jungle for awhile and lived in a tent! And MANY hurricanes.....A real adventurer she is. Just please don't tell me that you like Balut or I'll scream, LOL! Ewww.....She eventually married a Phillipino man and they live in California now. She is from Missouri. OMG, I just had to bring up Balut, didn't I?

Oh and for those of you who may be interested enough to wonder what Balut is, it is an extremely gross Phillipine delicacy....Here you go with a detailed explanation:

Nope never had enough nerve to try that. Did eat most other things though, like bbq pigs ears and something called Sisig which is pig nose. I really like filipino food. Some of my faves are pancit, lumpia, adobo, banana flower, green papaya and chicken. Oh I am hungry now lol. I did live wayyyyyyy downtown where no other americans lived on a huge walled in lot with tons of exotic fruit trees until we had a typhoon and got flooded. Then we had to move closer to the base.

Heber Springs, AR

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Louise the rest of those foods sound good! I know there are many dishes my friend still cooks and eats that sound wonderful to me. Were you there with the military? I believe my friend went there with her husband who was a pilot for an airline, they divorced and she stayed there awhile and eventually married a Philipino man. Lots of the dishes he cooks sound great.

Good morning all you hotties! Wolfie the DL offer sounds wonderful but I'm a little short of funds this week. I know the other hotties will love them. Would you believe that I don't have 1 daylily? Just never bought them or had too much interest, I guess. I always thought they only bloomed for a very short time each year. I know there is something wonderful about them because so many people cherish them..I wouldn't ask anyone but you hotties this question for fear of being thought a smart ^$%, but what is it about them? Color? Fragrance? Bloomtime? I've always wanted to ask someone.

Donna, I know you are tired and happy this morning....How long until DD and little Aidan come home to you? The air is crisp and snappy this morning, as it was last night and it seems like it got dark a little earlier. Nice Fall weather! Scarecrows and Halloween and dreams of Thanksgiving dinner already in my head ☺ When I was a little girl my dear Daddy would every year make me a scarecrow with his old overalls and flannel shirt and stick it in the front yard. One year in 1st grade he made one for my class at school and I was so proud..I sure do miss him. Gone now since Christmas Eve day, 1984. Fall is my hands down favorite time of year!

Gonna finish some more cleanup this morning and Jerry hinted sweetly that it might be time to quit worrying about the yard and clean the house a 'lil bit! ROTF, I guess he might be right, but doggone it I'd rather be outside!! In the wintertime my house is clean as a pin but in the summer I'd live outdoors if I could.

Love you all and hope you have the most wonderful of days! xoxoxoxoxo

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Morning All. Brrr, it's downright chilly here this morning. Low 50s and gloomy so far.
Werewolfie, I would love to see your x-stitch. I quit doing it about 5 years ago when I could not differentiate between the colors of the threads. Eyesight seems to be the first thing to go in my family.

Karen, DL are just a beautiful, no hassle plant, but can be invasive. I had some old just ordinary ones for years, but since DG I have found out there is all kinds of new colors and types out there and some of them rebloom several times during the growing season in our zones. If you just want to look, (yeah right), check out oakesdaylilies.com. I have ordered two from there and what they send is huge. (Plus they send bonuses.) But I'm am not ready to pay $49 for a daylily. Yikes..It sounds like Werewolfie has a real good deal for anyone that is interested...

Bonnie, I hope to goodness that clip never surfaces again. I still have people calling me when we're under a flood watch reminding me not to drive through the water. Ugh...

Okay, breaks over, back to work. I will be MIA this evening, so catch up with you tomorrow. Everybody have a save and happy day. Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Wolfie you are a talented hottie! Plants, cross stitch and canning oh my!! You need to pass those skills to other men!! I will send you my hubbie and you can train him! LOL Wolfie I am sure someone will take the day lilies! They sound great!
Karen daylilies are so much fun! I just like how easy they are! Time for coffee and off to work soon!!

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyrone. I'm back at yukky work again! Oh to be independently wealthy and only go to work if you WANT to!!! Hey I can dream can't I???

Clemen I think it was you who asked what we would talk about this winter. Anyone do house plants?? :-) If not, I can send you a few and we can start a house plant club! Or we could start a couple of swaps or some kind. We'll think of something!

(Cathy), MO

I would love to see some of the cross stitch!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Cat I will have a big ol sunroom full of plants and some are houseplants! Do you have baby bunny belly wandering jew? Karen, I was in the PI with the airforce. My hubby was air force just like my Dad. I have been a military dependent most of my life! GO MILITARY YOU ROCK!!!! Our military people need more recognition for all that they do!

(Cathy), MO

I don't have that one Lavender. Do you have Hairy Jew?

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Morning hotties
I have about 10 mins here while Siobhan is painting in the kitchen, hopefully she will only paint on the paper.
Little Aidan is a joy and a wonder to hold, I could only get my hands on him for about 10 minutes though. When we got there Aidan was in the nursery getting his first bath and things he needed so I had to wait another hour to see him. My DD was not feeling well at all, nothing serious, just a little queasiness that caused some not so fun stomach actions from the anesthesia. So anyway we did not stay too long, Aidan’s mommy needed to sleep. Not to worry I will go back today and get some more pix to post. Now I know you are allowed on this thread at least 20 pix of a beautiful first burg bloom, I’m not sure how many are allowed of a first DGS maybe 100. hee hee.
So much going on here yesterday, I can’t comment on all. But wow, we have hotties making national news and pears in bathtubs, flying furnaces, monster marigolds, downed trees and yard disasters, fair prize winners, interesting exotic cuisine, along with living in far away lands. We certainly are an interesting group, which I love being part of, as much as I love each of you. We will have no winter depression this year as we will have each other to bring sunshine to our lives each day.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh Donna you are such a sweetie! LOL @ your GD painting the kitchen errr IN the kitchen! When I was in the hospital last year, my young nieces took care of my dogs and I left some stuff called see spot go for the carpet for any accidents. When I got home thier was dog food all over my bedroom ( plus mice from the bounty) and they had sprayed see spot go all over the kitchen linoleum which left grey splotches bonded to the linoleum and the can was empty! That can should have lasted for like six months! I had to laugh though it was too funny! They are such sweeties and tried so hard!!
Cat I don't have that one...yet...giggle. I have the zebrina and the baby bunny belly one. Love wandering Jew, it is the gift that keeps on giving!! LOL

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi hotties, just got to work and hee hee peeking through. And I see a happy grand ma up there. Cat I have quite a few houseplants but not enough to brag about them. I do love the bromeliads, cactis and succulents, I have a nice collection of epis that keep me happy during the cold days of winter. Will be back later, back to work, Have a nice day everyone! C

(Cathy), MO

My daughter bough it at a plant sale at work and is slowly killing it! I snapped off a few starts, but am angling to get the whole plant! If I do, I can send you a few starts

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Tell your daughter you will just take it and rehab it for her! LOL I got my Zebrina pendula at a farm auction for 2.00 for a huge sunburned pot of it. It is magnificent and I have given away a boatload of plants from that. I think I have life three or four pots of it around the place right now. I have 17 different hoyas to keep me busy this winter thanks to the generosity of a DG er who I did not even know! I was posting on the hoya forum about my itsy bitsy cutting my sis gave me that I rooted and she sent me a hugeeeeeee box of cuttings!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

See all you hotties later, gotta go to the shop!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

DL's and Lilies are my first love...ooops guess i'm on the wrong forum....LOL
The Hotties are nicer....LOL
My Brugs are my babies..but not exactly for my zone....But I started growing the DL's for my mom when I moved here...but started with plain old Ditch Lilies (Tigerlilies)....They were her Favorite.... along with Lilac's..(have just about every color of them too) and Easter Lilies...(Finally got one to come back..2 years now..wrong zone)
After she passed away 21 years ago I started adding at least one new plant a year for her.....(I had a tigerlily and lilac etched on her stone so she could have flowers forever)
My first ones we're some of those invasive ones....But they've been exiled to the borders of my yard as I don't have the heart to totally get rid of them cause their still pretty.. and now I've been getting the really nice kinds...(only through bargins and trades would never pay $48.99 for a plant...) But i've totally falling in love with them all....
There's all kinds and colors that bloom at different times so you can plant your beds to have them flowering all season..and there's rebloomers...then dwarfs..Stella's are in both those catagories I have some... they stay small and they bloom almost all season...
Plus I have Lilies... Asiatic..Oriental (they smell beautiful my fav is Stargazer) Trumpets...Tigers (different then the ditch) Heirloom ect...
My motto is I never turn down a lily...Wolfie..Thanks for the offer and If you're sure you have extra i'll take some....
Let Me Know....
Becky might want some too.....For her memory garden....

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

I can't keep up with all you talented Hotties☺ wolfie, pretty please post needle point here so we can all enjoy☺some companies pay huge prices for Black Walnut wood,it makes beautiful furniture. My mom makes the most wonderful Black Walnut cake every thanksgiving, but Black Walnuts are really expensive to buy in the stores in PA. Cat,I am not flirting with Wolfie,I just like him,he's special☺

I have been a busy Bee this morning, pollinating,I think it's Butterfly, with Aurea Pink Brugs. This is my first try to see if I can get a seed pod to grow☺ I want to grow up to be just like lily_love Kim♥she told me how to do it.

Here is a pic of, I am pretty certain it is Butterfly☺

Thumbnail by posyblossom
Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Stargazer is my fav. too Phyllis. They are intoxicating☺I have a lawnchair near them and when they come into bloom, I just sit and scarf down the fragrance♥

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

OH! Hotties! I forgot to mention Butterfly smells like spicy anise, what an intense, wonderful fragrance☺the bloom to the right is Butterfly and the bloom to the left is Aurea Pink☺

It is so sheltered in our back yard, not one leaf or bud or bloom was hurt by the high winds from Ike. I feel very fortunate as this is my first time having Brugs to play with☺

That is a beautiful Grand child Donna, I can't wait to see more pics and I hope his Mom is feeling better by now☺

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Good Morning Hotties! Cool and dewy here this morning.. We're SUPPOSED to have almost 80 degree weather everyday for the couple weeks, or so the extended forecast says...(I was back at work, yesterday-toe seems to be doing okay, I'll be glad when it's healed completely) Donna, I don't think there is a pic limit for babies or brugs! Can hardly wait for more of Aidan and Siobhan. Hope your kitchen is the same color after the little artist is through painting.. Hope her and Aidan's mommy is feeling better today.. Lillies are pretty, I have the ditch ones and an orange one that reminds me of tiger lilies and then 2 or 3 in pots, still waiting to be planted. The ditch ones do grow good down by the drive-way so maybe I should replant some around my fence, cause I think they do grow in rocks and clay quite happily. So you lily people, what is the diff between oriental and reg lilies? I bought a Miss Lucy (it was my grandma's name) for $15 one year, it grew very little and didn't come back the next. I bought a stargazer this year, yet to be planted.
Cat, I'm dreaming right along with ya on the no worky thing... I have a few "house" plants, but then all my tropicals become houseplants in winter... I doubt we will find a problem with discussion topics.. Wolfie, seems you are a man that is secure with himself.. I commend you for such intricate work as counted cross stitch... I would do okay on color, just not those tiny stitches anymore.. Darn Work is beconing,, Enjoy the day Everyone!

(Cathy), MO

I know Posy, just gotta give you a hard time! :-) I love black walnuts too. I don't guess your Mom would share her recipe for the walnut cake she makes?? Wish I was closer Wolfie. I would take some walnuts!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Lu! How pretty and healthy looking.. is there any swelling like it took? I tried my hand at pollinating, but I don't think I did it right... course, I didn't get instructions from precious Kimbob, (kim, you lurking out there?)...Do you have to keep them alive (not dormant) for the pod to have the 3-4 mos to ripen? I have had some natural pollinators flying around out there at night, so I might come up with a noid pod of some kind.. I want to breed them for smaller size plants, so, I can haul them around on my own. Maybe I'll try Pink Beauty X Antique Lace and Antique Lace X pink beauty.... See, I'm planning for "retirement".. haha I'll work till I keel over. Wolfie, please DO post the cross stitch you've done.. we would all like to see your beautiful work.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Here we go quick again. Lilies are my first love and I love DL too. The DL’s because most will grow and bloom in my rocky soil. I have all kinds of lilies most are very easy to grow; they do not require much attention at all. I do love Miss Lucy but for some reason I can’t get that one to grow. I planted 12 over the last 3 years but not one has ever broken soil. Here are some Asiatics that I was told would not grow under the white pines in the shade. This was taken around 4 of July this year, these were planted the year Siobhan was born. This year they were about 4’ tall.

Thumbnail by DONNA_11
(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay Lu, please share the pollinating technique, please PLEASE!! With sugars on top? I am thoroughly intrigued by the thought of trying this~!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Here's my Stargazers this year before I dug the whole bed around my front patio up and replanted it...
I leave my door open when their in bloom....you can smell them thoughout the house...

Thumbnail by lilsista59
South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Oh Phyllis I’m with you Stargazers are my ultimate favorite

Thumbnail by DONNA_11
(Cathy), MO

Love them, but have you guys tried Casablanca??? One of the best things I've ever smelled!!!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Donna those are georgeous..(Yellows one of my Fav in Asiatic's)..So is Siobhan ....
My first Asiatic Lilies were Naturalizing Ones....Got 40 bulbs mixed colors abt 20 years ago...
And I still have them growing all over the place...People tend to admire them more than my named ones...LOL

This is Tom Pounce Oriental..smells good too....For some reason the flowers on the same plant we're different colors...
