Happy Birthday, Marion! Today is my dd birthday, too! The youngest one!
Everybody, stay safe in this storm! Don't take any chances! BJ, be careful! This is a strong one. We will probably feel the force of it, too!
♥Sweet Interruption♥ 23
Heck, Audrey... the way this storm is acting... I think Stacey will feel some force from it in MI... sheesh. But really... she might get some TD weather from it.
Latest models have the center going east of us... so, Phyllis is going to get the center, not me. Lucky Phyllis... huh?
Well, got a propane lamp, 4 flashlights, and everything is secured... I think I'm ready... ummm... are you ever ready?
WE are supposed to get some rain from it, but that is all-too far N for much.....oh my he is nasty!!
LK-take care tomorrow-I will be thinking of you

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARION
And one more peace of Browines w/ ice cream and Hot Fudge Topping
Kim, so glad to see you here. We've been missing you and your flamingos!
HI Girls,
well the citrus tress and plumerias and glory bower all all in the shed.
it looks like by sat/sun it will be here and underground says a cat 1 but another picture on it says a tropical storm.
have heard that 12 buses have arrived with people for shelters up here and they are expecting like 6 thous.
Have my candles in the filing cabinet right here next to me and all the flash lights have batteries. and will use the car to charge my cell phone if needed LOL
Do you have a generator Phyllis? Fill up your washing machine too, besides the bathtub.
But please, touch base here whenever you can. We'll be praying for this wicked Ike to loose his strength.
Filling up the washing machine, wow, I've never thought of that! It would give you water to flush the toliets. Jaye you've prepared for storms before haven't you.
Yep, too many times in Louisiana, Deb! Thought I'd avoid them totally when I moved here...unfortunately this is hurricane AND tornado county :(
Hmmm... I have a front loader... only uses a gallon of water to wash a load... don't think that would help me much.
Yes, Phyllis, it looks like Ike is headed to put it's eye right over Tyler somewhere. I'll keep west of it... and it's suppose to be a TS somewhere around Arkansas... so, I'm predicting that we will get a Cat 1... unless Ike takes pity on us... maybe a TS.
Don keeps saying "God help us all"... that is driving me NUTS...
I'm ready... I think... guess I'll find out when it gets here if I am or not... I haven't had to prepare for too many storms before. I have always managed to be out of town when the hurricanes have happened where I live.
Well BJ, at least he doesn't say.. "It's gonna be a bad one!!". That's what Kel's mum kept saying. Almost drove us to hang her!!
(Sorry Lord)
OK-I am dunb-why do you fill the bathtub and washer??
nope no generator
Just told Doug what you said about the washer and tub then had to give a lil bit of an explanation as to why to put water in them and he went on about5 the pumps with the water co op so it made sense
we already have a 50 gal drum for rain water and he is cutting the top of the other one to catch more rain water LOL
and gonna put some wood in the trailer so we have it for the wood stove to cook on if needed LOL
Electricity goes off, no water pumps through the pipes.
other thatn the toilet, what dya need all that water for?? I have heard that people get bottled to drink?? Do you sponge bathe with it??
If you have a way to heat a pan of it, you can bathe with it. I'd use all the store bought water for drinking and use the collected water utility purposes. Course this is the first time I've even heard of collecting in the washing machine. But this is such a good idea when you don't know how long your area would be without elec.
Wash, clean, flush, cook, ... just think of all the things you use water for thoughout the day... Stacey....
oh I figure if we need to clean up we can go outside with te soap and take a shower that way ...ROFLMAO

Well, our dearest city dweller niece. We live out in the country and have a private well. When the lights go out, there's nothing to pump the water. Our generator will be used for essentials like to run the fridge, freezer.. as such.
I just told Kel we need to purchase a house generator.
We're out in the country... but not on a well... we have city water, and a whole lake if we need it... so, I'm just hoarding drinking water.
I'm not a big water drinker. I know, shame on me. But let the electricity go off. I get real cotton mouth thirsty.
Survival instinct kicks in Deborah!
I'm not all that big on water either... but I'm the same way... I get real thirsty under stress.
As long as it's pure water and not something stronger..
Oh my, Please do be careful everyone...
Prayers for all...please make sure to check in with someone.
Meantime, I am watching and praying for saftey...
Judy, I'm about 8 hours from Boone, btw :D
I just called my mom in Urbana IL and we talked about Ike as it will go up and through Illinois by what they are showing...so I told her to watch for me to float up there LOL...just joking
but I did tell her I would call as soon as I could get through on the cell phone since we do the in calling with verizon LOL
and I do have some DG members numbers that I can call and have them post for me too if they have power to do so or I can have my youngest niece get on for me from Illinois and post through my info if I can't get online.
already have that planned out just in case
Plus mama Jaye has my number LOL
We have a front loader also - BTW I do not recommend them. They do not get our clothes clean. I have to run extra rinses, etc. and still dirty. We have hard water and the minerals build up in the fabric then catch and hold the dirt. That's what the repair guy told me a couple of weeks ago anyway! Good idea about storing water in the washer.
We keep talking about a generator but do we have one??? No! The only thing that works around here when the power is out is the stove top - it's gas. It has an electric starter but we can start it with matches.
Stacey, the worst part besides not being able to bathe is not being able to flush the toilets. Don't tell anyone, but one of our power outage survival strategies is DH waits to 'go' until he gets to the office in the morning. lol!
Headed for bed soon. Tummy is full. Had a cooking streak today and made chicken and dumplings and a chocolate cake. Deborah, I happened to purchase a pkg of those frozen dumplings with the black kettle on them and you are right. They are really good! I followed the directions until they were cooked then picked up my old recipe and added about 1/2 cup milk to the pot (do not stir), added the cooked chicken on top of that, put on the lid and let it sit for a while. Then heat it up when ready to eat.
Nighty night - hope everyone is prepared and in a safe place. Looks like another 24 hours or so it's going to get dicey.
You're a wise one Phyllis. And you know how we need our beauty sleep. We rather know you're okay then staying up all night worrying like we do with Joey. Not that worrying is a rare occurence with us!!
Sleep well Debra.
Niters Jaye.
mm think I'll have DH do the laundry tomorrow too so all the clothes are clean LOL then he can fill the washer up after that
If I had a place to keep my Koi I would find a way to get them out of the pond and bring them inside but no net and I would have to take all the plants out and start scooping out water to get to them LOL
I'm just glad my daughter and finance are both off starting tomorrow til Tuesday so that means they will not be out on a job when it makes it up here.
they are both Field Engineers for Baker Hughes and do the measurements and readings on oil wells on land ( thank goodness not on rigs )
Nite Debra

Phyllis.. then you can use the washing machine to house your koi!!
That's what I did before Hanna's projected to come here. Did laundry, so there'll be plenty of clean underwear!! Lolol!!
Hate to say this.. I can't keep my eyes open.
Goodnite my Sistahs. Marion, hope your day's a good one!
Darn, everyone went to sleep too early... I just got back here.
I'm still here. What have you heard lately about the weather?
Well, they say it's going to hit shore as a Cat 2 now... but, it's just now entering a warm water eddy... so, that could take it up again to a Cat 3... let's hope not.
I have a cricket trapped in my laundry room behind the washer, and it's driving me nuts.
Oh, I hate when they do that! I've had them in my fireplace. It does drive me nuts! And to think folks caged them & used them for security alarms back in the day.
I'm all caught up on watched threads again! Still haven't looked at new threads, *sigh* not going to do it tonight either. I need to work on my swap projects. See you tomorrow.
