Ike may have moved north toward Galveston, and his predictions have downgraded to a Cat 3 by landfall... but that puts Galveston just East of the center... which is the worse of the winds, and will devastate the island.
Staying that course will take it directly over Houston, and on to Conroe... PLEASE LET US KNOW YOUR OK, JOJO!!!!!

Well, DH & I were supposed to have a date afternoon w/ lunch and do paint your own pottery yesterday....I got home at 1, he was still sleeping, then he had a meeting at work, so I went with him and had lunch by myself, then by the time we got back the paint your own pottery place was closed....I was NOT a happy camper!!

Don's leaving Fri morn for Lubbock, game is Saturday, and was planning to come back on the truck (instead of flying, since they'll probably cancel the flight) Sat night after the game... the driver usually drives at night, so he'll be fine on the road... BUT, now the storm is due to arrive here Sat night. SO, Don will probably sit it out at Lubbock and return when the storm is over.
I will go get my handicap son to stay here with me for the weekend... so, I won't be alone, and he'll be safer here than in his mobile home.

BJ, glad to read you won't be alone. Can't say enough how much we'll be frettin' over y'all in Texas. And Galveston should be a ghost town by now, hope it's mandatory evacuation.

Yep... Galveston is evacuating... I45 is one way north... they've flewn out all the hospital patients, and the handicapped and otherwise challenged residents to Dallas... Parts of the South side of Houston has ordered mandatory evacuation this morning...
The center of the storm should pass right over our house Sat night, Sun morn... which might be the best for me... Everything east of me will get the worse of it... that means Phyllis will get it worse than me...
We haven't had this kind of storm in this area in many many years... so, those really large, old trees here might end up on power lines, roads, and houses. I'm probably ok, nothing real close to the house to cause damage... but I will probably be without power for a while.
BJ, Please be carefull, and get out if you need too.

yea we are getting ready for it also. Only good thing here is we had a very bad ice storm last december. We were with out power for 9 days due to trees taking out power lines. All that has been taken care of this past spring and summer so there should be no trees left around the power lines to knock out the power. But just in case.
They've been real lazy around here about trimming limbs away from power lines... that worries me... WE even have limbs that lay right on some lines leading to our house... but I think they're phone and cable lines.
back in Jan. we had a really bad storm. I was getting ready for work that morning when all of a sudden we lost power. So I had to do everything by candle light. Luckly DBF was home so he drove me to work. As we were leaving the mobile park, fire trucks started coming in. Well, what had happen was a woman was getting ready to take a shower, she had a candle burning, turned on the shower to warm up and KABOOM blew up. For months we did not know what was wrong until one day we got a notice that our well water was full of methane gas. Our moblie home park was on the news for two days. To this day the owner has not fixed it and he has been cited by the county and state both. Since then a lot of people have moved out. And here I had been taking baths with candles burning OMG!! I could have been hurt too! That is one reason why we want to get out of here. When you turn the water on you can see the fumes. So I keep window open by every facuet.
Oh man-I swear my aunties give me an ulcer the size of TX!!! I will be worrying myself into a coma this weekend on my days off....

We used to looe power in CA all the time in hte summer-too many AC's running and kablam-transformer blew....I used to do a lot by candle light and flashlight...
Oh yea a lot of the older people around here were having breathing problems, dizzy spells, headaches, some were going to doctors to get blood test.
We do want to get out but, we need a piece of property first and $$$$. It will cost about $20,000 just to move the mobile out.

I don't like the latest with Ike at all!! A double eye wall? I can't remember ever hearing that in association with a hurricane. Please, please everyone don't take chances!!! I also see Houston is being evacuated in sections today. BJ, Phyllis everyone--I am not really sure where all are located so take care of yourselves--the other things are materal and can be replaced for sure--no each of you.
Is there a contact system in place for our Texas group? Let me know what I can do.

Oh Cindy, I would so be trying to force him into doing something. The city should be enforcing it. That is just awful.
Forgot to mention hubby will be out of town He is working up in the panhandle until Sunday morning. Hope the storm doesnt move in earlier.
Oh and my driveway is almost impassable now, with all the heavy rain yesterday. Cant wait to see what it will be next week.
The managers of this park are the WORST! they don't take care of anything. As a matter of fact they got a citation from the health department, because too many people have too much garbage in their carports. You ought to see their mobile it is GROSS and it's the first thing you see when you turn into the park. Oh yea and sometimes they won't open the swimming pool because they don't want to listen to the kids having fun, but yet they let their dog in there when the sign say "No Pets in pool area"
Have you tried contacting the city officials or the news about the managers?? Somthing has to be done for your health and safety!! They are just as bad as slum lords with not caring about the way you live-shame on them!!

Just talked to JOJO... she's securing everything at her house right now... and packing suitcases for her and the kids... they're leaving today for her friends house in Waco... Hubby's part of the Rescue team, so he's staying there in the shelter they've provided for them... JoJo said not to worry, she and the kids, and the dogs are fine... just hasn't had time to sit at the computer since she's felt better. She'll let us know when life settles down for her again.

Well, the owner of this park is a umm excuse my words "A raghead" so you know how those people are.
Yes, actually when she called she was cleaning out the kennels to put them in for transporting them to Waco... the dogs, kids, and her are all going to Waco.
CINDY.... definitely call the news station... they'll eat this up, and they can usually get things done real fast... at least it works around here.
