(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well, DD doesn't eat them either but I do. So tonight she is having left over beef with noodles and I am having stuffed peppers. Her lose for sure.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'll take any kind of stuffed peppers, except for bell peppers. The skin got too much acid for me. Now give me a good chille relleno or stuffed poblanos.. yumm

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

For sure, its not that hubby dont like them he is a meat and tater with gravy man. GOTTA have the gravy. If I set a stuffed pepper in front of him he would say................Is that all.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

That is IT I am heading to Florida. I want a stuffed pepper.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Man you guys, I mean ladies lol you keep talking about all the foods I like. DBF is a pickie eater. Meat, potatoe and bread, he's an oakie and proud of it. I always tease him about being an oakie. Thought maybe I'd post this recipe. It's very addictive and makes a great deasert for a hot summer day.

Angel Delight
1 (3 oz.) pkg strawberry jello (thaw 1)
1 cup boiling water
2 (10 oz.) pkg frozen strawberries
1 (3oz.) pkg lemon pudding (either instant or cook & serve)
8 cups of 1" cube angel food cake
1 tsp lemon juice
cool whip
fresh strawberries

Dissolve jello in hot water add 1 pkg strawberries (frozen) and lemon juice. Chill until partly set. Prepare pudding, fold into jello, then add rest of strawberries. Add cake, spread into 9x13 pan, chill, cover with cool whip and fresh strawberries.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

OMG I have GOT to make that.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Once you start eating it you won't stop. I made it a couple of weeks ago for a BBQ, DBF asked me how come I hadn't made it for him. We've been together 2 years OOPPSSSEEE, my bad.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Will I get much of Ike? someone asked... well, I'm going to say YES at this point... looks like we'll get him at about a TS or TD... and it looks like TIA, or Tina.. or whoever she is today... will get some of him too... so, come Sun or Mon, it may be lights out for us both for a while... Out here in the country, our old power lines just can't hold up to such storms very well.

Don's home, fed him a bite, and we laid down to take a nap (after my night, I needed one)... ended up telling him all about what's going on with all my DG friends, and we laughed so hard we couldn't fall asleep... well, he finally fell asleep... but I got up... guess I'll sleep good tonight... *sigh*

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

My lines are new so I should be ok. But sometime is we get bad thunderstorms real close the lightning will knock out a transformer. If it does I guess I will go play in the rain. Or take a nap. We shall see.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

JoJo's going to get hit worse than we are... let's all pray for her and her family..
AND everyone from the tip of Texas, to the Mississippi border, and about 1000 miles inland... this is going to be one H-e-l-l of a storm, my friends.

They're only predicting it to be a Cat 3 when it hits landfall... but all the conditions are right for it to get stronger than that... even a Cat 5 is possible... Don and I think most likely at least a Cat 4.

Mind ya... Galveston is only 11 feet above sea level at it's highest point.. and they're expected to get 23 feet of water... now, that's going to wipe some people off the map...
If you've ever been to Galveston, and taken a good look at some of those houses built close to the beach... you'll be saying, like I am... only by the grace of God will those houses survive a storm.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

The most important thing I'm worried about (that effects me and my family) right now is that Don will be out of town, and is scheduled to fly home the day we expect the worse of the storm... Sunday... He assures me he will get home, somehow, someway... and that promise is what worries me the most.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh my goodness I didnt realize Cat 3, wow Hope all is well and safe thru this. I am going to hunker down, get some bottled water (ewwwwwwwwww), jug up water for the toilet and get some candles. We will be playing dirty minds by candle light. Hmmmmmmm might need to get some kind of thing to eat also. Mom has a generator so may need to get that out. We should not get his as bad as Texas but heck who knows.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Why do you think I keep updating the weather report on here, Tia?
This storm really concerns me... they've called in all the help they can muster for evacuations south of us... Don't know if you can ever be ready for what devastation these Hurricanes can muster...

Don keeps saying "God bless us all" as he walks by the satellite monitor... not his usual self... he's usually just whistling a tune... not today.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

BJ, we'll pray along with you. Any storm is a serious affair, but Cat. 3, that's too dangerous.
Did you get hold of Joey yet? Hope she has somewhere safe to go to.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

OH dang I am getting a bit concerned now. We have had 80-90 mile hr winds before and was camping at the lake with 9 kids OMG never again. But the damage was horrible around us. We will prepare. You guy down there be careful and be safe.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Joey said she has a friend near Austin to go if they need too... but hubby can't leave, he's part of the rescue squad in the area... so, her and Zeke and Ster will skooot if they need to.
NOTE... they do have a safe shelter for her hubby during the storms.

I'm going to take advantage of Don being home now to help me batten down the hatches since he won't be home for it... so... see ya'll later.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Th more I hear the worse this storm sounds. I have been in enough of 'em to know I really want no part of them....You all get things tied down well and take care our prayers are with everyone, with little extra thrown in for Joey and family....be safe everyone.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

We are in flood warnings until Sunday. Then Ike going to hit Monday.

Oh gosh Joey be safe, and all the others down that way.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, looks like the weather people agree... they just changed predictions for Ike to a Cat 4 by Fri afternoon...

And, never mind LK... you probably won't get much, but ya never know...

Raleigh, NC

weary waving. I've never been so dirty, or so wet. Worked all day at PDN. I weeded fern test trials, helped mark markers for something called Lilium Pyrophilum, and helped dig out the Colocasias we mulched last week. Hybridizer, some big name in the biz, from Maui, was there, and he marked over half for destruction.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Tina! That's so funny about Tia! I saw that happen to someone on a forum. A few people thought her name was Tia (yea ok so did I) It wasn't you though. On your dumplins, it's best if they dry out before you put them in the boiling stock. I make mine the night before, cut into strips and leave on the counter under wax paper. But I gotta tell you a secret, the frozen dumplins are just as good with less trouble. Look in the frozen bagged biscuit section. The dumplins are in thin strips in a bag. I like the ones with the picture of the old lady on the package. Forget the brand name. Theres also one with a black kettle on the package that's a good too.

Bj a Cat 4! Oh no, yikes; I need to turn on the weather channel. Yall in Texas stay safe!

Bonnie, sounds like you had a busy day. I cringe when I hear about hybridzers destroying plants. They do that with day lily seedlings too. Poor little babies didn't meet eye standards and they're compost toast.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I really don't like the looks of Ike at all now. Everyone in Texas, buckle down and whatever you do be safe. You are very special and we don't want Ike messing with any of you for sure.

We need a theme for our festival. Put on your thinking caps lady I am completely brain dead on this issue. I will take all suggestions to the committee and give you credit for sure. Let's hear the brains start churning..................

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey.... I don't care ....I use the jiffy baking mix and make up the dumplings on the side of the box then either take and plop spoonfuls on top of the chicken mixture and bake it OR if I really feel in the mood I will boil up some broth and drop them by spoonfuls in to the broth and let them puff up spoon up chicken into bowls and top wtih the dumplin's

Over on the Texas forum threads RJ was talkin about work having a place for them to go north of the woodlands for a shelter...http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/901389/

Cindy thanks for posting that I lost my recipe for it and now I don't have to look anymore for it LOL

Leftovers here or popcorn for supper not in the mood to cook much LOL
Oh and choice for leftovers are chicken on the grill reheated and well guess nothing step son ate the left over hamburger helper I see LOL

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Mibus2,

You've made Angel Delight before?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

yessum had a bus driver friend back in Illinois make it once and got the recipe from her ....then lost it and was wanting it again but she no longer drives and have no way to reach her anymore

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmm....theme... Marion, how about "Natural Glory"?

Deborah, thanks for the tip. I'll look for those frozen dumplings. I'm used to making chicken dumplings in brown stew a la Cajun. Sometimes I use those broad lasagna strips too. Anything that requires less time in the kitchen.

Phyllis, how are your ankles today. Darn, hide you some bananas from DH gf!! And B6 helps too.

Joey, if you're reading this.............then you're not supposed to be at home!!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol thank you for the dumplin recipe where were we talking about the lemon cake????? Gosh I get so lost and I just dont know. Anyway it is in the oven and will be ready for breakfast in the morning gals. And I got the stuff to make cherry apple and peach turn overs. They will be for breakfast Friday morning.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

My dumplins are from whap biscuits. Hubby likes dough not noodles, I know.................

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Tina Tia I don't care..... if we don't talk about food for one day, then this must not be Sweet Interruption!
Think I've gained weight just by reading the recipes.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mm left one is still puffy but you can alteast see the tendon at the back right one is okay .....really not totally sure as to why they are swelling...sprained the left one over 12 yrs ago and it acts up like that form time to time but it is more often now then not and the right one not sure unless it is sympathy for the left one....and they don't ache from it either

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I just jump around on here. LOL I do fix both, biscuit type and the thin. Just depends on what I'm hungry for. Two different tastes. I like the biscuit type when I fix a pan of dressing.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I like the suggestion Jaye and will definitely bring it to the list tomorrow night. Oh thank you muchas!!

We are getting some fairly gusty winds and loud thunder. Hummm, maybe Ike passing by?

Oh save some for me Tia? Tina? Whoever? I love, repeat love, love cherry and peach!!!Shucks won't be able to get any after all, won't be online until late Friday. No computer on this trip. DD is using the laptop at school until hers come in that works with the monitors.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol...sympathy swelling you say? Could be!! That's funny. I broke my right foot 4 years ago, and the ankle still swells up from time to time. Not the left ankle tho', apparently that ankle wasn't sympathetic!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Save some peach for me too Tia, Tina.. :D

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

well no other reason I can think of LOL so it sounded good

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Now are we going to have to get wheelchairs for you Sistah at BJ next year? Sure hope not!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, Deborah, that's what I do, but I don't leave them to dry over night... I make my dumplings with Biquick, and roll them out on a floured wax paper sheet... lot's of flour to mound up the sides of the strips when I cut... I do that about 4 hours ahead of time, and cover the strips with a kitchen towel... Boil Chicken, remove to cool... debone... put meat back in pot with shredded carrots, english peas, salt & lots of pepper... then when the broth is boiling I pinch the dumplins off the strips and drop them in the "bubbles"... when they're all in the pot, I cover the pot with the kitchen towel, and lay the lid loosely on top... turn the burner off... and wait about 10 mins... the dumplins always come out like fluffy biscuits swimming in chicken gravy... all that flour thickens the broth.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol you guys, wasnt my fault I became Tia, it just stuck.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Slogan: With a picture of a large Fla Orange as a logo: Orange you glad to be at the 2009 "insert name of the Festival"
