Jaye, I read somewhere on the DG poultry forum how to 'sex' a young chicken. Ain't no way I want to know bad enough to do that. They would just have to grow up and either lay an egg or start crowing.
♥Sweet Interruption♥ 22
Dad's stepdad used to raise his own chickens. Of course I was familiar with chicks...but not that familiar!!
Lol Debra.. I'm like you, I'll wait till it lay eggs!
Areas around the gulf can't take another beating. At least LK will have 2 extra socks ;)
Don just called me... from Houston... the stadium there is eat up with FEMA workers and Homeland security... they can hardly get the cameras all set up for the crowd of people setting up for evacuees. So, Houston is ready... don't know about anywhere else.
BJ, what does Don do? You've mentioned stadiums a few times and I keep forgetting to ask. Sounds like something interesting!
*wades in and does a good shake sprinkling rain drops all over everyone*....hehehehe
Hey Girls glad to see y'all feelin good today and stayin dry. DH says we've gotten 4 1/2" since last night and it's still sprinkling out.
came home for lunch and have to leave again soon but had to pop in a say Hey.
He's a broadcast engineer... he runs the truck that sends the signals to the stations so you can watch all your favorite sports... HD and Standard def... mostly Baseball, Hockey, Basketball... and college football... today he's doing CONN @ HOU - WNBA
Hey, Phyllis... we started getting sprinkles early this morn... then a good hard rain ... enough for the exterminator to cancel his treatment of our house... and it's just drizzling now... and suppose to keep it up the rest of the day. Actually, it's a good soaking day for all my plants and lawn...
Hey Phyllis! Bring you a rainjacket!
Thanks, BJ. That is interesting!
Oh man-now I want to name 2-the name I picked out deosn't fit the little guy:) Ya think Kathy will let me name 2??
Oh-those saws willl soooooo be on my list-I would take a used one if it came from one of my uncles or my gpa though...that would make it better;) I do need to have a chat w/ gpa-he has a BIZILLION tools, so maybe he has a spare-ya think?? I have been wanting to do these for 3 yrs...I love to pain things-not like an artist, but paint things-know what I mean?? OK-so a 14" bandsaw and a scrollsaw-got it!!
BJ-if Don EVER does a Red Wings game-tell him that is DH basement them!!LOL
Laura-thank you for the pics-DH and I started out w/ all hand me downs and now by 1 new peice of furn every 3 yrs on the "3 years no interest" plans and just take and divide the cost up by 36 and pay that each month-we have a couch, bed, entertainment center/dryer set all like that:) And you know what I discovered is a cheap way to get nice pics?? I find a really pretty calnder at the sale for the expired year-like I would start looking for 2008 ones, get some cheap mattings adn some decent frames and voila!! Pics-the ones in a lot of my house are those:) Walmart has some nice $5 frames that come in a 11X14, which fits the matting for a 8X10 opeing!! So I think I have around $6.25 invested in most of my "art"!!LOL If we ever come across anything real nice we really like, then we aren't out a whole lot of $$-and we can still use the frame and matting for something else:)
As my friend says make sure you all have ye Macs and Wellies close by.......
JOJO!!!! Glad to hear you and the Zman are doing much better!! The only thing I can think of that is worse than being sick is being sick AND having a sick kid at the same time....
Stacey definitely get the biggest band saw you can afford.....mom's is pretty good sized but often we wish we had still a larger one!!!
Stacey, Kel says to get a band saw and borrow a neighbour's jigsaw if you can't get both. I just got Kel a new DeWalt jigsaw with a quick release blade. You're welcome to his. :D
I have a jig saw that was my father's and he was 100 yrs. old this past Jan. (and living in his own apart at sr. ctr./plays bridge 8 x's wk, sings in two chorus) but I digress,,,, Anyway I have made that old jig dance from time to time and MIGHT be talked into passing it on the the next generation , namely my dear Tink. Interested?
Oooh say yes, niece...
I say yes for her, Janice!!
Actually, your saw sound better than mine but that old thing can really put out... I mean keep going all night ...I mean (well you know what I mean).
Uh huh! But that jigsaw would be an heirloom jigsaw. Kel wished he got family that has the same interest as he does. Would be a 'connection' there, instead of just DNA. If you know what I am trying to say.
Think you notice we like to promote Stacey towards anything positive, even it means owning unlikely feminine stuffs. Lolol.. look at Joey, our resident tool lady.. and there's Phyllis..
Not to change the subject here... but just a FYI
Don just called to give me a blow by blow of what's going on in Houston...
Border patrol just showed up.. armed for bear...
AND the parking lot is full of ambulances from all over the country... even as far away as California, Arizona, and Washington...
NOW, all this is happening at the old Astro Dome complex... and they're assembling at the Convention Center across the parking lot.... and it's getting very very crowded.
So, they are not going get caught with their pants down like with Katrina...
(probably shouldn't have said that after Janice's post above)
Coastal Louisiana, possible evacuations notice.. this new governor ain't messing around either.
thanks for the jacket it quit raining for now...ok so am I missing something here border patrol etc. are the gearing up for Ike?
YES... Phyllis... They're calling in the help they can get ... and using the Convention Center next to the Astro Dome as the staging area. Of course, that's just what they're doing in Houston from where Don stands... I am sure there's other such preparations underway all over the gulf coast... I do hope they're evacuating about now... not waiting till the last minute.
alrighty then I hadn't heard or looked at anything yet so wasn't sure if you meant for Ike or something was goin on in Houston LOL
Stacey, what are the chicky names? You have to name them.
Linda Kay
Yep looks like Houston is getting ready. DH is going to be on Standby duty this week. Uggh I wish he could stay home more, but I know they need all hands on deck. Did some minor housecleaning (read cleared a path LOL) then fell into a Benedryl induced coma. But I really am feeling a lot better, just moving slow and feeling dingy...not that thats anything new. Good thing I dont mind wearing jammies all day, there is not one thing clean in this entire house LOL, its gonna take a while to get stuff back in order. BIL's kids are not very well housebroken, so things to to be a real mess around here, not to mention the stuff I hid and put up so they couldnt break it, and now all I have to do is find it all...if I felt good enough to care, I woud probably be mad LOL
Joey, I sure am glad you the Zeke are better! It's bad when you have a sick little one, too! Yor're not able to take care of yourself, let alone a child!
Truly wish I'm right next door so I can help you, Joey.
Betty, thank you, the spider was a project I did early in college. We had to do a pointillism (picture made out of a lot of dots) and I came up with that. I want to do another version of it in watercolor, wood grain background, a slightly better drawn spider and glue resist for the water drops on the spider web, but I’ve never gotten around to it.
Stacey, I know what I want to do for up there. I want to do something like the picture below, I might mess with it some more before I do it, on a huge (like 3 or 4’ square) piece of leather; then curl the edges or other wise make it not so symmetrical. I just haven’t gotten the leather or the time to take on that big of a project. For that matter, mom has a bunch of prints I could at least barrow, that’s what we did the time my passive-aggressive ex-roommate took all her stuff out of all the rooms but “her” room. But I like mom’s picture, it’s just too small for up there.
Neither DH or I are very fond on debt, car, house and schooling are the only debt we happily go into. So we’d prefer to save and buy, but for the last couple years, since we decided to have me stay home with Sage, we haven’t really had anything to save.
Ooh Laura, it's so pretty. When I look at it, I'm reminded of Bacchus, with grapes around his face. So, what will you be calling this divinity?
I have read novels in less time than it has taken me to catch up here. Whee, Ike must be reforming after Cuba. Guess I should check on the guy before I call it a night.
BJ and Phyllis enjoy the rain but please don't send it back here. I need the sun for another day or so. Well atleast til Friday as I don't want to be traveling in the rain Thursday or Friday. Board meeting in Gainesville. Little slow this year as we don't have our theme chosen yet. 19th festival any suggestions?
Jaye, wow! those gingers are to die for!!! I don't think I have ever seen anyone with them that tall. Beautiful
JOJO!! I am so glad you are feeling better and the Zekester also. Sure have missed you chattering with all of us. Don't ove do it and if I could I would be right there to help you get it all cleaned up and out.
I will take both saws!!LOL I would like one that will be easy to use since I don't have a clue what in the heck I am doing and would like it to last a while...those are the only pre-requisets....
Laura-I was just sayin.....we have been there too:) I thought maybe a nice family photo above the fireplace-a large 16X20 or something-love the drawing you did though!!
If Kathy lets me name 2 I will unveil tomorrow;)
They will do better where you're at Marion. And they love the occassional flooding..
Let me guess Stacey, one will be named Toot..poot..or something like that?? BTW, isn't it pass your bedtime?
Aren't mine white? They do get flooded as my lot is sloped toward the lake and as luck would have it or would not have it, we are at the bottom of sloping road. Confuse you? Well anyways if we get a really hard rain it runs down the street onto our drive and through the carpot to the back. Can't wait until mine bloom!! If talking to them daily helps then they are on their way for sure.
I fell asleep earlier, but now it is time to eat a little something and get back to bed-had to catch up:)
Marion, think I sent you both...white and peach. If I'm incorrect, I can send you more next year.
They say the white ones are more fragrant, but not for me. Butterflies flock to the peach ones more.
Now I am confused. I thought they were white but they could have been mixed. Well when they bloom I will know, won't I? I have them back of my azaleas as I thought they would be nice being taller and would bloom when the azaleas are finished. Of course, when they increase some I will put some in another area. I just love gingers.
They're practically worry free. Just feed them once in a while, Marion. Unlike the cannas, they don't suffer from leaf rollers.
You know, I don't have a single azalea growing in my garden, and this is azalea country!
Stacey... you're in bed yet?
The azaleas were here when we bought the house but had been neglected. They were very tall and thin so the we cut them back as soon after closing as was allowed. The next year they were thicker and bloomed but the past few years they have gotten much nicer. Fertilizer, pruning and water is all they needed. The previous owners were more green plant people.
Have some really nice Holly Ferns, sagos ( I have always coveted for their fronds during the holidays) tons of aspidistera, ivy and the eternal border grass. Crepe myrtles in the shade so you know what they are like. Some Rose of Sharon but they also aren't doing well as I think they are getting more shade than they like. Slowly but surely I am getting it adjusted but it does take time!! I think that is why Fay threw me for a loop!! Things were starting to improve and then the limbs came down--breaking and damaging things in their way. Oh well, slowly but surely it will improve again.
Hello ladies, just popping in to say goodnight.
I went to our home depot today to get some bloom booster, and I picked up the small box I usually get, for about $5.00. When I sat it on the counter to pay for, the cashier told me thay had the bigger boxes on sale for 50 cents, so I got about 3 times the amount for a lot less. So I bought 4 of the big boxes for $2.00!!!! Big score. So if you need some miracle grow bloom booster, go and check it out.
Stacey will be waiting for the chicky names.
Good night, sleep tight!
Linda Kay
I, too, am calling it a day. Sleep well everyone.
Night Linda Kay.
Great haul there LK. Sleep well, and watch out for your mailman tomorrow!
My Rose of Sharon didn't do well at all this year, Marion. Could be too much sun!! In the meantime, I have added more daylilies to the garden and increase the brugmansia collection. Kel wasn't too thrill with the brugs, cause they are really high maintenance with the feedings and the influx of grasshoppers didn't help at all! He rather I dot the property with gingers, curcumas...anything in the ginger family!!
This year too, I attempted growing tropical vines. Only one bloom from 4 Blue Sky Vines! Sad, but not giving up. Clematis are compensating for their lack of blooms last year. Hurray for the gloriosa. At least one bloom!!
What's left to be planted to complete our vision will be Bon's irises and more Louisiana cypress trees. They are so gorgeous those swamp trees aren't they?
I'm anxious for the camellias to show off this fall. Now they're of the maintenance free group too.
Ok.. posting this pic of Gloriosa Rothschildna..then I'm off to bed.
Phyllis, you must be tired. Have a good day tomorrow..
