very nice Kassia & Ge

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful pics everyone.
Victor - loved that sunflower shot, the first one. Would make a great enlargement for hanging!
Celeste - the dahlia is beautiful. I love how the edges are darker pink. The statice is nice too. I've been thinking of giving it a try.
Ngam - beautiful DL

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice pics! Kassia, you grow a lot of flowers that I don't grow many of or not at all, such as roses, begonias and dahlias. My favorite things are the plants that don't require much work, like the daylilies, irises and hostas, among other things. I already have too much work to do!

Kassia, does the coleus self-seed? What a statement in purple!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Great pics everyone. Still pretty roses, sedum and coleus adding color to the gardens with echinacea, love that, and lilies still hanging on along with the fall blooms of dahlias and sunflowers. Beautiful. Keep them coming.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

celeste those mg's are nice - was thinking the same as Kassia about the seeds. is that a recent purcahsed aster? if not you are ahead of me on those.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone...
Yes, they self seed... I love that! I even have it in different parts of the garden... good... next year I hope they will be like weed... lol... at least the it will be purple...

Oh Karen, I love roses... my first love... yeah it's a bit of work but this year I did not spray anything since we had so much rain.... hopefully they will all make it through the winter and be gorgeous next year....

Here is one of my favorite roses... I love the name... Fantastique ... and it's Zuzu's falt I have it... and guess what this is one of the most fragrant rose ever... love it!!!!

Silly me, I've only ever deadheaded coleus to keep them bushy. Those drifts of purple looked gorgeous. What is the name of it? I probably missed it somewhere. Wow!!!

And the matrona is calling my name, too. sigh.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Beautiful Kassia and the coleus drifts are terrific.
Jan You wont be sorry. Its a tall sedum.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I have no idea the name of that coleus... someone left them in my house at the RU in 07... so I had some plants... and I did not deadhead them... not doing it this year again... actually I am going to plant some seeds of other colors as soon as those begin so I will take a ride on nature's way of doing things... hopefully next year I will have other colors also... no question that I am going to try them in full sun and see what happens... I have a couple that purple ones just grew beautifully in full sun and filled in next to some roses and I love it... maybe it will suppress weeds...

Here is from this morning... oh I love it...

Iknow the coleus on the right is alabama sunset

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I saved my coleus last year, but they got gnats. This year, I am going to try wintersowing them. I will try to collect some seed from my plants and I also have some seed I bought. We will see..

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I tried to winter over cuttings one year. They did well for a while then went downhill. With hundreds of orchids, epis, hoyas, and assorted houseplants I got very tired of keeping their water full. Not to mention if I get them each year, I can get different ones.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Kassia, I have a feeling that your "coleus" is really a Perilla (which self-sows freely). It's often called a coleus look-alike.

I couldn't find one in Plant Files, so took this photo from the web.

Boojum I am trying to winter over cuttings this year too.
Never did it befor.
It isn't even January yet and I'm wondering if I did the right theig. Baginning to think the hassle isnt worth the $5.00 per plant, even tho with a LOT of luck I might save $100.00 with twenty successful cuttings from three or four plants.
Also wintering over the Hibiscus Ace????? It has grown 5 inches already, by December where will I put my tree at this rate. All of these plants are on the floor in my living room.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

ge, we all hafta try things. Some of my "experiments" make me chuckle now. Others were great successes and I will do them again each year!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

In the back of my mind I see myself assigning the pots and plants to the garage about November.

Thomaston, CT

Jo Ann--I really liked that hibiscus---it probably is worthwhile overwintering---I just don't have enough room, & if we go to FL this winter, there go my plants! Here is a phlox hanging in with a nice bright color.

creeping jenny... creepinnnnng all over....
this is interesting. I had a small plant in a pot last year and it grew in the area nearby... of course I did not protect or anything and honestly believed it would just die. well it did not... and its' growing and covering everything and it has a bright yellow little flower... if is not a problem for the roses it will stay right there....

Nice, Kass. I'm a big fan of Jenny. Same experience with me with coleus. I won't bother anymore.
