Garden Photos - Part 35

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Bill - I have that same hydrangea, and it didn't have a single bloom this year. I thought it was because I moved it in the fall. It is interesting to hear that some of you are also having the same issue. My PeeGee is just filled with blooms, but this Endless Summer blue one (I think that's what it is called, but I'm not positive) had a few blooms before I moved it last year, but just nice green leaves this year. I wondered if I need to give it more fertilizer. I spread good compost around it and did give it some bloom booster a few times in the summer, so maybe it will surprise me next year. LOL

Although not a great photo, I love the coloring of both the hydrangea and the Sedum Autumn Joy right now.

Nice color match between the sedum and hydrangea, Sue. They both turn blush at about the same time.

for me i thought it was because the winter winds killed the stalks - i started to wrap them in burlap and wilt proof them - it worked two year ago - not thispst year - and i sprayed them several times with wilt proof

Hi all, I've been lost and just found this thread. I have a white ROS (Jeanne D'Arc) and every year I get a few pink blooms. Does anyone know why?

I found the tag it is a bigleaf hydrangea, is that considered a regular mophead? I bought it 2 summers ago so it's still pretty small. Victor your question prompted me to look for the tag, I couldn't remember if it blooms on old wood or new, now I remember old wood, although it doens't say when to fertilize. I haven't pruned it. We did have a cold spell in the spring, lots of wet weather and hail. Sounds like lots of other people are having the same problem maybe it wasn't happy with the weather this year?

I'm going to try to overwinter some perrenials in pots left outdoors this year and see how they do.

dpoitras!
I am near your zone and we had a frost the end of may thatfroze off the opening tips of the Hydrangea branches, especially the ones at the top of the bush.
I had no blooms there.
The blooms were at the bottom of the plant and deep in so they were hardly noticible.
This pic was taken in July. You can see the blooms deep in the bush and at the bottom. No blooms on top.
This is a three bush clump that is 20 years old.

It was probably the cold then, Debbie. Nice shots, booj and Kass. Booj - that's interesting and cool that you get some pink blooms. A nice sport - you can try to take a cutting and see if it is reliably pink.

I'll start a new thread in a bit.

GE yes now that you say that I remember that frost was very hard! I'll bet that is what it was. What a beautiful photo!! I wish I had those blooms as well. Next year I will.
