Amen to that! I have some recipes in my granny's hand writing that I cherish so much!

...........ok..ok...quick surface...
Majority of Americans here are descendants of somewhere, Europe right? So what Phyllis posted make sense..
I have to share my mama's pineapple tarts one day.. just remind me. And yes, tarts back home were baked in small tins, and open face. Hers had small strips of pastry over them too.
Now... I'm realllllllllly going to bed!! Promise!
Yep I know I am my mothers side is tredennick/tredinnick which is England and Heald which is dutch I think she said and that is the grandma that did alot of baking/cooking...LOL
..and if any wonder how an Asian knew about tarts.. history 101 here.
Singapore used to be a British colony, till she gained independance around my birthday. Am familiar with steak and kidney pie too.
Again goodnight .. :D
Good night Jaye.
Kathy baked a peach praline pie. Ice cream on top. Oh my, make ya wanna slap ya grandma on the back. I'm sweet hungry now and all I have here are graham crackers. :(
I got back about 4 pm; I really enjoyed the weekend, but I’m so glad to be home. I really looking foreword to catching up on here, but I’m super tired, went through several pressure changes on the way down so my head feels like it full of concrete and have a lot to wade through, so sorry if I miss things. I’m tired to the point I’m considering taking a nap, but it’s after 9 now and I’d just wake up at 2am and not be able to sleep. I might have to go and do something brainless though, I’m having trouble tracking. I'm going to make sure I'm current on swaps, this thread, mixed seed nuts and what weird weather we're having and see how I feel, but if my second wind hasn't kicked in I'm going to ignore catching up on everything else.
Been worried about you gals in the path of Gustav, if any of you are still on, know my prayers are with you.
Linda, maybe that’s what we should rename the thread “swap-a-holics chat room”.
Stacey, MIL complained that her lilies didn’t come up this year either. She figured the rotted or got eaten.
Kathy, what’s on the shirts? Looks like you all had fun!
Jaye, I admit I’m an unrepentant worry wart. I try not to freak out, which I have done a couple times, but DH knows he better check in if he’s going to be late; if he doesn’t and he doesn’t answer his phone, which has only happened once or twice, he’s in trouble when I do get a hold of him.
I think I qualify for the “does idiotic things” label; that’s how I sprained my ankle. I got &!$$@% off and decided to walk off in the dark with out knowing the lay of the land. It’s getting better, comfrey and St. John’s wart seemed to help a lot; wish I could find more. I’m still babying it until it’s all well, I don’t want to do something idiotic this time and have to wait for it to heal all over again.
Deborah, I had really good food this weekend too; my in-laws and my BIL’s girlfriend fed us well. Not everything but the high points; waffles, blue berry and plain, home made syrup, wonderful potato salad, battered and fried squash fresh from the garden, fajitas, home made salsa, and farmers market type bacon. We never make that type stuff down here. I need to expand my cooking.
I love all the recipes! I collect recipes and cookbooks. Gee Deborah, if ya ever want to share any of your Granny's old recipes I would love to have copies. Hint, hint:)
You ladies have made me so hungry, and I just finished dinner!!!!!
Cordeledawg you could always mix up a small batch of frosting and put it on your graham crackers for your sweet tooth :-)
my kids used to do that when I had left over frosting
OMG-sitting here at 6am and my belly is a grumblin!!
Hello Phyllis-we are an "interesting" bunch and I love everyone of these ladies as if they were my own flesh and blood:)
I love all the recipes. I have fond memories of childhood and going to help grandma do the xmas baking, and I think that is where my love of baking started...I have said that when she passes, I only want 2 things-her recipe book and something she made-like a crocheted blanket or scarf-something like that. All my recipes for the most part are in my handwriting, a few in grams and some in moms; since I am the only baker in the family, the recipe book would mean more to me than anyone else I think......
Laura-I had about 50 lily bulbs planted no including surprise ones and as they were coming up the rabbits ate about 1/2 of them-biting off buds and all, so I know that is the reason I didn't see some of them this year, but the surprise ones, I just never saw at all-they are planted someplace totally different then the rest....
Well, as for deep fried turkey-we have that every year for thanksgiving and boy is is delicious!!!
Betty-where are you?? how far from Detroit?? Just wonderin how far from me you are-I looked and Joycet is aboout 3 hrs from me...
And yes-I did sleep better, with less sleep, knowing my Auties were home safe and sound:)
Deb, you better come back. you forgot your coffee.
by the way, the girls are sweet beyond words. they gave me a bushel basket filled with goodies. everyone put a cookbook from thier state in it. deb has pictures of it. tell her to post them
