She's about to... #13

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Louise, you may have just come up with JJ’s problem. Sound so much like what his leaves look like. I have him away from all the others, all alone but not protected from wind. His top leaves on the Y are dry around the edges and have a funny looking kind of crinkle to them, and they have not grown much at all. He has a shoot at the bottom that is growing like crazy and that looks fine. I’ll find him a better area with less wind tomorrow. It’s worth a try.

Here he is, poor baby, just keeps getting worst.

Hi Karen, Welcome to Burgmainiea. Your going to love it here.

Welcome Karen! We're kind of sitting here waiting to hear from Beck. She was supposed to call some people when she got to Ennis to let us know, but so far no word. Hopefully, she is just busy getting Mom settled in and we will hear soon.

Now, as a newbie, you must read threads #1 through #13 and pass a test. LOL!! Just teasing. Besides, it's just too crazy... We all have brugs, are trying to have brugs and doing our best to have brugs, all in different stages. But we pretty much talk about anything at times, so just join in anytime. I mean, where else would you find out about brugs' hairy legs?

Are you going to get some of the rain and wind from the hurricaine as you are further north in Texas? Everytime I look at that thing it does not look like its getting smaller!

Now, ladies, I must go to bed. Vacation is over and I need some rest. Lov, Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Donna that looks exactly like wind damage to me too. Since mine were fine yesterday I know it was that wind today. Very strong and it was hot too.
Joyce I know. We need rain so bad. 50 percent chance tonight after midnight. Cmon Gustav send that stuff up here!
Night to all the hottie early birds!
Karen welcome!!! We are a pretty chatty bunch here and we talk about anything we can get away with. lol We sometimes give up trying to catch up if we miss too much lol. Lot's of good info shared here though. Oh, and we like food talk too!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

PEg don't be so harsh on our new addition. make her read all of our nonsense, I can't even catch up with this one, LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Clem, now we are HOOTIES? LOL
Karen welcome to the hooties group. It should be Hotties, but you know how those typos can go???
So glad to hear that gustov has fizzled out. I know there is lots of rain and winds, but it could have been a lot worse. Fay, Thank God for answered prayers. Still praying for a very fast recovery.
Good nite all you hooties!
Linda Kay

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you all for the welcome. I will get to meet Linda Kay in person in about a month also! The area of Texas I am in, near Tyler, is only supposed to get LOTS of rain for the next week. No high wind or anything expected. Tyler is where a huge number of the evacuees stay. I haven't heard from Becky either but I'm sure she is fine. She is in Ennis Texas, another evacuee station, and there is no bad weather forcasted for there. I'm sure she is visiting with her momma and making sure she is fine.

(Cathy), MO

Back to work for me tomorrow too. And I'll be on the road the next 2 days so won't be on much.
Welcome Karen!
Catch up with everyone later

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Greetings. Thanks Peg for asking about me. I have been reading the thread faithfully but not posting just trying to "nurse" my surviving brug ! Lots has happened and I am rather "wrung" out--Mom took a nasty fall and had to go south for a while to care for her, "Fay" dropped in for a visit and then decided to stay around for awhile. I left "Fay" still doing her thing and flew to Canada for my brother's funeral. Just returned late last night along with some nice gusty winds from Gustav.

Can't we just have some quite time down here?

Be safe everyone in Texas, thinking of you and yours while keeping an eye on Hanna. I personally am getting tired of all the visitor we are having lately!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hi Hotties, Nite Hotties :) Faye that is the greatest news! I hope you are both able to get more rest, now. One day at a time and rest. Bless you both! Thank you all for the nice compliments on my garden areas, I truly enjoy the beauty and nature of it all. It was hot out there today, I wanted to spend more time here, but DS and niece came over with homemade bread pudding and we played Wii bowling! Ha, us old Aunties can keep up with the youngin's!! Welcome to the Hottie thread Karen, I've spoke with Maggi and Kenboy before and Nadine is friends with them, I believe.. Now, Miss Becky???? We miss ya dear, hope and pray you're all safe.. Lucky you on those Ken & Maggi brugs, Karen. Peg, that's a hoot, tell our newest brug lovin' hottie she HAS to catch up on 1-12... there is some fun and informative stuff tho... ;) sometimes we only have time to skim and TRY to catch up later..
YES, we NEED a Hottie Brug RU convention, we have to work diligently on that one.. Let me think on it.......so, where would mid way be? Nadine, Becky may be the southernest Hotties, Donna is the northernest and easternest, maybe... Glad you're not getting too much of the storm, Nadine.. sure wish we had word on Becky..
Peg, you can let them "hairy growths" grow and see what happens, but I wonder if they would have time to age enough to sustain themselves in winter for me, they would probably wither and fall off in the basement. They sure do like to grow, huh? I like the other part you told Karen about us, too. (((((((((Peggy))))))))) I'm off to shower and ZZZzzzz... It's so good to hear Faye's news! I think the crispy brug leaves are the hot dry wind... I misted and showered brugs this evening early, so the leaves could dry before dark.. I think it cools and refreshes when we don't get rain, may help keep spider mites away. Congrats to Joyce on the "fork" on Snowbank... I'm pretty envious, hottie ;) Okay, off with me! lol Good night my dear friends.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Morning Hotties!! No way I can catch-up right now! So here goes..I had a great day : ) Faye that is great news! Welcome Karen : ) Waving Hi to Marion (((hugs))) Congrasts to all who have buds ,blooms or forks!!!! Back to work sigh.......

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Welcome abbisgranma! My sis lives in Palm Bay Fl and had a time with Fay too. They got 25 inches of rain. I can't even imagine that much rain! I am sorry to hear about your brother and Mom. Praying for all the best for you! G'mornin hootie hotties!!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Good morning Hotties! I get to go ahead and take my vacation today as I originally planned, so I am headed out to the yard.

Marion, it is sooo good to hear from you, but I am sorry you have had so much going on in your life. Hoping things will calm down for you.

Kim and Happ, I know, work, work, work!

Still no word from Beck. I tried her house, just in case they had forwarded calls and I have her c-phone #, but last I heard Lyle's mom has the phone in Tennessee and I really did not want to call and worry her! We just received our first 2,000 evacs (some medical) last evening. We were only told to expect 400. But, so far, we're handling it and this community really steps up when needed.

Everybody stay safe and check on your brugs! Lov, Peg

Linda kay that is sooo lovely!! That is the only color dat I do not have!! If you get alot of seed can I beg some off of you??!! Maybe I have something you might want!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Peg I am so glad you get to have your vacation day! I know how it is when you are all psyched for a vacation day and it gets derailed.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I had 2 blooms when I first got it, but no seed so far. There has to be something from these 23 buds I have now? Just give me a reminder later. Can you start a new dat from a cutting?

Linda Kay

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I have 5 Brugs total and do not know what any of them are. I have one that is flushing now, so I will be taking pics to get ya'll to try and help me identify them ☺ I used to never think it was that important to know what you have as long as it is pretty but that has changed lately, LOL!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Hey, back again from outside. My DD just showed me the neatest thing. Have ya'll tried Google Earth? It is free and you can find just about anything. A whole lot easier than using a map or my long-ago geography lessons.

Anyway, for those of us geography-challenged Hotties, you might try it.

Here is my house on this site....the one in the middle. This was was taken last winter. Okay, coffee cup refilled, back outside. Peg

Mornin' Hotties'! Hi Louise, Linda Kay, Kim! :)Marion, we've missed you. So sorry to hear of your brother's passing and I hope your Mom is feeling better.. It's been a hectic summer for you. I will have brug cuttings for (I hope) as many that want some. If anyone lost theirs or they've been destroyed by hurricanes and you want to try again.. Yes, these "visitors" need to know they aren't welcome. We continue to watch as Hanna approaches and hope she fizzles in the ocean. I'm sure you have a plan, just in case? Linda Kay, I think you can root datura cuttings..., but I've always thought they are like an annual, once they bloom out and go to seed, the plant has completed it's life cycle and will die off, unless you deadhead spent blooms before they make seed, to encourage it to keep blooming.... But I think someone on DG keeps theirs over winter inside..? Wow, 23 buds! Get some bloom pics for us? I have a few purple dat buds, a first for me and it's pretty exciting. Peggy, enjoy your day, we're expecting TS this afternoon and cooler temps tomorrow. That is nice how your community steps up to the plate....Boss's barge terminal in Baton Rouge had skirting removed from the office bldg and I guess the coast guard had 15 of their boats tied up at our loading dock... more emergency vehicles waited the worst out in one of our storage bldgs, it suffered some wind damage as well... so yes, it's people coming together in a time of need, does my heart good to hear those kind of stories.... await news from Becky

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Morning all Hotties
DG on the sneak, yup I’m here typing and trying to catch up. Joyce, somehow I miss your fork on snowbank last night, so belated congrats, soon will be the buds. Can’t wait to see that one bloom, just love her. Louise and AuntB, thanks so much for the advice on poor JJ, he is on the top of a slope so there is a lot of wind there. He has a chair in front of him and that would be enough to break the wind for the lower branches. He will get a new home tonight. He has some very tiny buds and I do not want to loose them. Clemen your plants look so good, and they are happy there on the side of that beautiful canal. I’m so surprise they like all that salt air, but it seems like they do. Peg so glad you got your day off, sound like you’ll be working plenty with all those evacs coming in. Marion so happy to see you back, so sorry to hear all of your troubles and hope that things will turn around for you now and there will be no more tropical visitors from off the African coast. Lu, no poking at that bud today, but take another pix so we can see the progress. It makes the waiting easier if we are all waiting with you. Karen don’t even try to catch up on the old stuff you’ll drive yourself burggie. Just jump in, it’s such a fun, happy burg family thread. Linda Kay, that dat is going to be just gorgeous.
Well it has taken me 2 hours to write this and I just check in and lots of new posts. So I will post this now and catch up again soon. So if I missed anyone or anything, please forgive this working hottie.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Good morning everyone, sorry I've been absent for a while. I just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone, hope life has been treating ya'll well.

Hi Lucille, I'm finally here. Missed chatting with you too. Bonnie, have you has any success with double blooming brugs?

Here is my very first double pink NOID; which is ABOUT TO. I'm delighted, but look, most brug will open green/off white before the corola turns to its true color. But this one; even the whiskers reveal the deepest of pink color already.

Kimbob! I was just thinking over the weekend I needed to dmail you, I hadn't seen you around but then, maybe I haven't been getting around DG much??? Glad you stopped in, and that Pink is going to be gorgeous! I'm still waiting on buds to mature into blooms on Day Dreams, sometimes it seems like they take forever... I may have another double.... Golden Lady?? Is she double? How are you faring with the wrath of Gustav? Donna, me too, working.... :)

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Welcome Karen - I haven't heard from /Becky either - she said she was going to Ennis - that was where they were takin her mom- but Ennis - is a temp place to register then they send you somewhere else - so she might still be tied up getting her mom settled - and it may have taken her longer to get here - I understand the hwys were pretty packed -

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Just checking in hoping everyone is okay with Gustav paying a visit. Looks like there are 3 more name troublemakers now!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

3?? That's enough, NO more.. Maybe they will ALL fizzle out. XX fingers crossed.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks Bonnie, for asking. I'm in the 'heart of Dixie' in Al. So far Gustav has detoured from our area. Though, as the tornados season begins, we -- like the rest of us are keeping watch and hopefully will be prepared for the worst, and hopping for the best.

Remember the seedlings that I've sewn this winter? Here is one that's ...getting ready to....
Kimbob. ^_^

My plants all have y's, but no irregular leaves yet.
Wonderfull looking plant, what color is she?
Linda Kay

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kimbob! NICE please post once they bloom, it'll be fun to see what you have. Glad you are safe.. Thx kittylover, for the input on our Becky, I won't worry so, maybe.. :) I didn't know they would send them on somewhere else.. Lordy be, they could have picked up Mom and come on up here, hooked that camper up to my ele and THEN, a mini Hottie RU! Louise, Cat, Joyce, we could have had a mini ru..! lol I pray she's safe and has meds and provisions. Maybe we need to set up a hottie Hotline... I could keep hottie phone numbers in the Hottie section of my journal, I wouldn't share or give them out.. although, I know Peg or someone has tried to contact her on her cell.. I guess I just feel helpless and if she needs a place to "park it" I hope she knows any of us would gladly have her in our driveway or yards. Linda Kay, I have noticed some of mine, while they do have buds, do NOT have the irregular leaves. So I think it depends on what brug it is.. so maybe you are closer to having buds!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That would be so nice. Just very anxious to find out what colors I have, since most are noids!
Linda Kay

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

My gosh you got from a seedling to that in less than a year...wow!

Congrat's.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

AuntB, since I found a fork on Snowbank, decided I ought to see what color it is suppose to bloom....LOL Funny thing I had to really dig hard to find the color of the bloom, all kinds of info on the leaves and about their being a PATENT on the plant very little on the bloom. The leaves are beautiful and if it ever grows tall it will be stunning.

The triple bud (only see one) sure isn't growing very fast. Versi is on a roll again, I am really impressed on that little brug, she has bloomed all summer for me and hate to admit I am not the best on fertilizing. Course I have well water and I keep thinking it is full of fertilizer from all the farm fields around me (at least that is how I justify my negelect).

Clouds are rolling in we may have rain yet.....yeah. Will have to bring the plumerias in cause I think the temps are suppose to drop and they are like me and don't like cold weather.

Trying to decide what I am going to let go dormat and what I am going to let grow. I am afraid to let things go dormat, afraid they will remain in that state....

Hottie RU, I am up for it...yeah....

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi Joyce, thanks. The seedling grew out from my own cross last year. I pollinated some pink x white and vise versa (Sept. 2007, seed harvested late winter, then sewn Feb. 2008). It's going to be interesting to see what color the offspring will turn out.

Bonnie, I'll be sure to post those when in full bloom. It won't be long.
Kimbob ^_^

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Kimbob, I can’t wait to see the bloom on that double pink, she looks dark already. The one you grew from seed looks fantastic. I know you are a bit warmer in AL, what month did you start that one from seed?

AuntB, I think a Hottie hot line is a great idea, would be a good thing to centralize all the phone # of everyone that wants to.

Peg, I like the photo from “EARTH”, I can’t get to that site from work but use MSN Maps, it’s about the same but it will not let me copy the pix.

Linda Kay, I’m pretty sure the Dat I bought on line was a cutting. I grew several from seed and they never looked like the one I ordered. They are an annual here but I’m not sure in your zone.

We’ll time to hit the traffic, hope it doesn’t take hours to get home.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Whoops, crossed with ya Kimbob, you just answered my question.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well Hotties, Looks like first bloom will be a triple!!!! I took this just a few minutes ago, and it looks like it is going to be a triple bloom. What do you think? Don't know if they will all be that way? We will all find out together.
Linda Kay

Linda Kay!!! Looks like a triple dat to me!!! How exciting.... got the time lapse on it??? Cool, please post more pics as she exposes herself! Congrats!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi my hotties, have been out all day with the girls doing last minute shopping and my pockets are so empty now. I wish I could have borrowed one of yours, lol, but I knew you were going to declilne!

Kimboe and Linda Kay, way to go with those blooms, just gorgeus.

Hope everyone has a nice evening and I love you all! Clem

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Cat, I would never think you or anyone here as nosy. It is a health issue and after $15000 between self pay and our insurance and no clear cut diagnosis, I just live with it. It didn't kill me yet so I try to ignore it and that works pretty well as long as I don't go in the car much. Vibrations stir up body pain and I have to be very careful and rest quite a bit to keep it under control.I am living the good life in spite of it and am happy to just pot around with plants, dirt and pond.

....and best of all, I found all you Hotties to pot around with now and I can't begin to express the fun II am having on this thread☺...and yahoo! Kim Lily-love popped in here too now,HELLO KIM☺

Donna, here is a pic I took just now. That Bud sure doesn't look like it will be pink to me.Maybe I read the stalk wrong,it might have said Butterfly, Oh well,it does not matter too much as long as it comes out looking good and smelling pretty☺
