Good question Louise, I’ll be waiting with you for an answer.
Another question: When do and how should you remove spent blooms?
I know this lady is getting a lot of photo time, but she was just so beautiful this morning.
She's about to... #13
Very pretty picture Donna! That looks almost lilac in color!
Thanks Louise, It is just pink, the camera and early morning light made her look darker.
Ah, she is looking good Lu, hands off is sooooooooooo hard. She has a ways to come down yet, but it will be soon. Yeah, I know soon is a looooooooooog time to wait.
Donnaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Yours is lookin so good this AM☺ I cannot wait till mine is open. It is my first time ever for a bloom of my own and is sooooooooo exciting, almost as good as if we had won the Mega millions☺,well not quite..................sigh...
All is quiet here...still waiting..........lol
Thinking of you Moo and sending positive vibes that the danger will pass soon☺
Good morning hotties, Donna and Posy, lovely pics, send more this way please!
Hope everyone has a great labor day! Enjoy!
Good Morning Hotties!! Thanks for the eye candy and happy birthday wishes : ) I don't have anything blooming : ( but soon I hope....
Y'all have a great Labor Day!!!!
Kim, Happy Birthday wishes coming your way, hope your day is extra special! Nadine, Hi, so glad yu are still able to report in for us, it should be an interesting day for you down there... I pray for you all. How eerie it must feel now... with no one using your "facilities"... all traffic of any form halted. How many hurricanes have you been through? Posy, I'm glad we were able to help stop ya from destroying your first bloom, I remember the anticipation for mine... and let me say, it's almost or maybe just as exciting waiting for blooms now. New blooms, for sure... I'm waiting on so many new ones (for me) right now, I can hardly stay in the house. But the first ever is a milestone! Too bad we can't induce labor, but the bloom will come. It is tough..... waiting waiting, looking looking, pics, more pics, more waiting and more looking.... and one day, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, Ohhhhhhhh, ooooooooooooo it's finally here...lol Clemen, lovely passion flower! Lav, Peg, Hi to all you wonderful women! Will post newly "tubbed up" MW, she's much happier, stretching her toes into the dirt.. she was so ready for a new home.. has her feet firmly planted now, no more blowing over... look at her, and more buds coming on... what a work horse! (going out to get some pics to talk about "hairy" brugs...) Donna, isn't it almost magical?? Hows her scent???
They are awesome AuntB☺All those wonderful Blooms and location, location, location, perfect☺☺Do you have drain holes in the blue tubs? I am going to transplant some Brugs to those size tubs but I wasn't sure if I wanted to put in drain holes and ruin the tub for holding water.
Have a great day everyone, Lu
Happy Birthday Kimarj. Have a wonderful day!
Linda Kay
Thank you Lu, I made 8 or 9 3/4 inch holes (got to use my cordless power tools!) You will have the tub (and the brug) for many many years and it's a MUST to have drainage or the roots would die. I have tubs from 2000, still utilized as brug pots. My gardens are sunny, pleasant with a good breeze this a.m.. and turmoil just half the nation away... I'm appreciating my blessings (and spraying for hoppers) today. I want to post some pics but this puter is s l o w... (I suspect Mel is downloading something... let me try to fix...)
I have been thru hurricanes since 1961 starting with Carla...lol..haven't left to go anywhere when these things hit the coast..lol...
The wind is starting to pick up here and bit cooler.. I been outside in my yard pruning dead stuff..and cleaning up some more..felt good too..lol..mmm..few skeeters buzzing around me tho..maybe the rest took a hint to fly off somewhere..lol..
Nadine, glad to hear your doing Ok. Gustov has slowed down, but still has a big punch, so be careful.
Linda Kay
Wow, Moo! Got your roots planted deeply! Hi Linda Kay, how goes it? Good thing the skeeters left, they would probably get blown hither, anyway. Nadine, you have someone there with you don't you? DH, DK, DGK?
Morning Hotties!
Has anyone heard from Becky?? The Texas people are getting quite concerned that no one has heard anything. She left with lots of peeps # but so far no word.
Nadine, glad all is still quiet. It sure would be nice if it just stayed that way, but this storm is acting quirky, like it just might stall somewhere and really dump the water.
Happpy Birrthday Kim! Hopefully someone will bake you a cake instead of you having to do it.
AuntB, I may have to come to your house to go to Brug 101 school next summer. Yours always look good! You could charge and we could all bring pup tents. :)
Got to get busy outside. Got called into work today, so my vacation got shorted. Talk to ya later. Have a good weekend! Peg
Good morning everyone and happy birthday Kim. Sounds like Gustav didn't pack quite the punch they were afraid of, but I'm sure it did more damage than we know yet.
Quiet day here. Hope everyone has a good one
Peg, I was wondering if she was settled... hope we hear something SOON.. No charge here, dear lady, my home is open to any hotties, anytime.. Thank You for your sweet words, I just do what I can and try new things when all else fails.. but sharing my experience is free... come on up now, it'd be a blast.. (still can't get this puter to find a path to my pics so I can post more...on "hairy" brugs/trimming) Wanting some input and need help confirming some of my "theories".. Cassies Curls w/ flushing Antique Lace for a neighbor.. ain't they cute?
Very cute Bonnie, love that frog too!
Louise, looky, I've had your Maya since last Spring... she's riding to MO RU to come live with you, too big for mailing and Hotties, I need to down-size, I have a big Maya so this one is going to Lav.. I will probably remove the new shoot on the botton right to try to root for mailing to the next person on my list.. but she's got 2 buds and will winter over easily for you..
AuntB, make sure my name is on that list please???
How is everyone doing. Hope it is not too bad for you.
Lind Kay
The "hairy" part... the new growth coming out on the main stems or trunks of our brugs.. Lav, lol I remove most of it, unless I'm trying to develop a new limb. I feel the new shoots take away from the main plant nutrients and the buds/blooms. So I will remove a lot or all of that growth. It really depends on what look we're going for... P.Versi, I've kept trained to more of a tree w/canopy than a bushy look with lots of trunks. See the new shoots coming up from the bottom? These will be lopped.. I'm keeping 2 or 3 to root in a bucket over winter and the rest will be cut for sharing if possible, it might be so new it is too green to root, as I like semi hard wood the best to root. She doesn't get the new growth on her trunk much anymore because she is about 8 or 9 yrs old and has very hard wood.
Oh wow Bonnie I am so excited!!! Thank you! I see what you mean about the growth and I had the same thoughts so that is why I asked about it. I cannot see how all that growth would NOT take away from the blooming. I will go out this week and shave her legs lol.
What a warm and cozy look you have achieved "Bonnie Brug"☺ Somehow I see you just as warm and cozy as your plants♥
I really hope I get a chance to see your yard in person Bonnie, it is lovely and very serene.
Praising God! Ray is home from the Hospital. Came home today and Dr. said he thinks he got all the cancer with the left kidney. We will have to wait for more results to be sure. Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. You are a very special group of "hotties"
Couldn't read all the posts, but all the plants are beautiful and sure does make this greenhorn jealous. Love to all, Faye
Oh Faye that is wonderful news! I am so relieved! Wishing your DH a speedy recovery and no further problems!
Good news Faye. So glad you're home now and can begin the healing process.
Oh, Faye!! Jumpin' up and down happy!! Such good news.. hope the recovery stage goes well and you two can put this behind you. ((HUGS))
Okay, I hate to change the subject after such happy news, but can we go back to hairy legs again. Dr. Seuss has leaves, not limbs, all the way down his stems. I understand taking off underneath limbs or new growths coming up to repot or share, but should I take off all of those leaves? I'm on the wrong computer for pictures right now, but just imagine little leaf pairs all along the stems with the big leaves on top.
Louise, wouldn't it be fun some time to just show up at Bonnie's? All of us. Hmm have to get in touch with Drew and Mel first so they can help us.. LOL!! But, seriously, we ought to at least attempt to get together sometime next year. We would really have to work out the logistics and try to make sure everybody could attend. This has been discussed between several of us, but never the whole group. Anyone up to a Hottie Road Trip say the Fall of 2009? Peg
Thank God and your strong bond of faith. This is wonderful news Faye as you and DH are taking one day at a time, gaining strength and courage along the way☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
Sounds like such fun Peg,but this Hottie will have to do the get together in spirit as I am unable to travel anywhere anymore☻
I'm up for it Peg. I think nfinding a central location for as many of us who can, would be super.
Posy, for health reasons or financial? I don't mean to be nosy, but the financial can be "helped" if necessary.
YaaaHoooo..boy did I get some rain...doing the happy rain dance...Yes I have my hubby, my younger brother-(he going home today),2 dogs,1 ferret,1 praire dog,?? chickens and 2 peacocks...lol all here with me..but all animals are outside except my little doggy that helps me inside my house(hearing dog)...lol...
AND most of all..you guys here on Daves to keep me company!!..LOL..
Faye, what wonderful news, so glad things are looking better, prays still with you and your DH.
AuntB, that place looks like a Burg paradise, just gorgeous. All of the plants look so happy and healthy. Sorry can’t say if EP smells great or not, the old sniffer doesn’t work well anymore. The scent would have to be really strong for me to get a fiff, ah the joys of steroids.
Peg, love your idea, AuntB’s on the sneak that would be such fun. Really, we should look into planning something that would work for everyone who can.
Seems like we are still waiting for word on Becky, pray all is well.
Today for me was the beach and dinner out with the kids. It is also my DD’s birthday today. She was born on Labor Day, only a hottie could time that one right. DD is on final count down now; Aidan will premiere in just to weeks.
Nadine, glad you made out okay.
Hello to all, hoping your Labor Day was great.
Peg when I was talking about hairy legs I meant leaves all the way down the trunk. Mine just Y'd so I have no other stalks yet. That particular brug is VERY leafy. I found out an interesting thing on puckered leaves today. I had three of my brugs in a more open area and we had a really hot windy day today. The leaves on two of them pucked, i assume from drying. Different kind of puckering from fert puckering. Sort of dried up around the edge kind of puckering. I moved all of them to the sheltered area around the pool surround. The wind doesn't reach there.
Nadine I have been wondering how you are weathering things. I saw online that hundreds of thousands are without power right now.
Faye, so glad to hear the good news!
Kim, Happy Birthday.......let me singggggggggg. Cough cough....way to high note for me.
AuntB how beautiful it all is.....wow
Speaking of bruggies my snow brug has forked, just realized it today. Buds will soon follow...LOL
Back to work tomorrow....darn.....got a lot done but today was really hot. The ground is so hard here I couldn't even dig. We haven't had rain up here for weeks.
Too tired...later gals.
Hello all! I am Karen, lucky enough to live close to, and personally know, Becky, Ken and Maggi ☺ Maggi and Ken introduced me to Brugs back in June at my first RU...I'd never heard of them. They've been kind enough to give me several. I had my first blossom last week and was so excited! Never got the name down, but it's a buttery yellow color and smells heavenly. I hope to learn more about Brugs here and get to know you all better!
