Which reminds me....I just got back from Hawaii (the big island) and suddenly realized how nasty the coffee I usually drink is!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Whoa!!!
You must had some Kona coffee!!!!LOL

(Zone 7a)

We drink coffee and lots of it. We, however, get the beans in soft packs that go in the recycle bin. Here's my favorite container for the finished product to go into.

Oh, and Kona coffee rules! Whole bean only and unbleached filters. My DB calls us coffee snobs. ☺

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Glad to meet another coffee snob!!!LOL
And how many ounce's does that cup hold???LOL

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

Will I get kicked off this thread if I say I only drink coffee when I am cold? LOL Then I have to add lots of cream (the flavored ones are good too) and sugar. I think if coffee tasted as good as it smelled I would drink it all the time.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Wow,a okie that doesn't drink coffee like water!!!!LOL
Being a little Seminole myself,we all drink lots of coffee!!!
Seminole that I work with full blooded, from Claremore,Ok,never see him without a cup of Java in his hand!!!
No we just mark you as cold weathered drinker!!!LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I drink coffee every morning, I love coffee. I was introduced to good Kona Coffee in Hawaii also, it's wonderful! I like light and medium strengths, and flavored coffees too. I also like cream and sugar, or just sugar, if cream's available I'll use it, if not it's no biggie. I do like the flavored creamers too.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Anyone for some chicory???LOL
Better have a spoon handy!!!
I tried it once when I was young.and couldn't handle it,and I love coffee,Danny my friends mother, was from the bayou's and thats what they drink to get going in the morning!!!LOL

(Zone 7a)

I've had chicory before but we can't find it here. It's been years...

The mug holds about 14 oz. (I had to check. ☺)

Fifteen years ago the minister of our church decided to have a coffee tasting party. He provided five different coffees and we were to vote for our favorite. So there we were sipping coffee as if we were connoisseurs and dicussing the relative merits of each. Coffee brand "C" won hands down.

He had purchased five brands off the shelves at the local market. Folgers was coffee C.

I belonged to the Gevalia coffee club for a couple of years and had many different varieties. Kona was available but I never bought any. A friend had some Jamaica Blue Mountain but I didn't make it over to try it. I drink too much coffee to pay the going price for the exotics. I'll stick with my Folgers, Columbian, medium roast, black and strong. I stock up in the fall. A month ago I passed the coffee shelf in the market and noticed my coffee was $11. I paid $6 last fall. The other day I noticed it was down to almost $9. I'm glad I still have one left and just opened one.

I've used the containers for many things but have to admit I've never put a plant in one ... yet. Thanks for the idea.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Wow!! 14oz,now thats a big mug!!!LOL

I can't drink the strong stuff anymore,acid reflux I guess,so it's foldgers house blend.
$9,28 at walmart.
Also a spoon of coffeemate in every cup of coffee I drink!

(Zone 7a)

Acid reflux, here, too but I can control mine with meds. We have a few big mugs around here. lol Still a snob about my coffee. I will pay the bigger price for the better coffees.

Paris, IL(Zone 6a)

Somehow a venti vanilla latte from Starbucks doesn't fall into my category of overpriced coffee. I'm glad the nearest is 30 miles away or else I'd be stopping in several times a day. *grin*

(Zone 7a)

Carmel machiatto. Mmm...sounds good. Or nearest coffee place is 6 blocks from us. Starbucks is across the street from where I work.

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok while we are on the subject of Starbucks, (I have never entered one), I want to know the difference in a Latte and a Cappacino (probably misspelled). I think we have already established that I know very little about coffee but I do want to try some of these one day. They just put in a Starbucks down the road from where I work and once it gets cold, LOL, I want to stop in one day and not look like an idiot.

(Zone 7a)

Cappuccino has hot milk and is more foamy. Latte has more milk and both are made with espresso. Espresso has a higher coffee concentrate, as opposed to that made in the common home coffee maker. (Can you tell I'm a coffee geek as well as a snob? ☺)

From the web:

The Monumental Difference Between Latte and Cappuccino
What is the difference between caffè latte and cappuccino? When I have asked at various coffee spots, I seem to get different answers!

You know, those little 17-year-old all-knowing snobs who stand behind the counter and deign to serve you are trying to confuse you, trying to instill a sense of mystery in an overpriced product that will keep you guessing and coming back for more. We can’t do anything about the price, but at least we can help clear up the mystery. In this case, it’s a matter of proportion — latte has more milk.

In this country, cappuccino is a serving of espresso (about 2 ounces) with essentially similar amounts of milk and a rather stiff milk foam. Caffè latte is a serving of espresso with about three times as much milk, topped with a short head of foam. So a latte is milder and has a milkier taste.

While Starbucks has imposed rigid standards at every store in its chain, in practice in other coffeehouses and restaurants around the country, these drinks can vary substantially, and a cappuccino at one place could be similar to another coffeehouse’s latte, or even weaker. But not necessarily less expensive....

I agree about the babies who serve you in those places. We know more about what they serve than they ever will.

This might help

(Zone 7a)

Where did you find that? That's great.

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

Thank you! As I generally have to put in lots of cream and sugar it seems like a Latte would be the way to go for me.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

That chart is my road-map to life!

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

Just saw the diagram. I will be confused no more. The Caffe Mocha looks like it would really be good.

Paris, IL(Zone 6a)

Judy, my Spousal Equivalent, drinks the cafe mocha. I used to drink cappuccino until several times in a row all I got was expresso and milk foam. It's depressing to pay for a full cup and only get a couple inches liquid in the bottom.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

We have quick trips here, where you can get gas and about anything in a grocery store,
anyway I get the french vanilla every time I stop and get gas!!!!MMMMMmmmmm!
Ok I get up at 3:30 every morning ,drink a pot of coffee,12 cups before I go to work,my coffee mug holds 2 cups, and my thermos holds 8 cups,so I make another pot just for work, and then I make another pot of coffee for the wife,so she'll have coffee when she wakes up later in the morning.
Then after supper, when I take my parrots out of there cages for exercise, I drink another pot of coffee, now you probably think I'm wired right!!!LOL
Well I go to bed at midnite every nite and get up at 3:30 every morning like clock work!!!

Paris, IL(Zone 6a)

I remember those Tropicman. I used to stop for french vanilla even when I didn't need gas. I used to drink coffee right up to the point I went to bed. I don't do it any more. I guess I got old in the last four or five years. Now we drink a pot in the morning and often make a second one. Sometimes there's only one cup left when Judy gets up so I help her with the second pot. Around 4 PM she'll make a pot of decaf we drink before supper and that's it for daily coffee.

I'll have to get a french vanilla next time I'm in town.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Yep,I drink it right until bedtime too!
But no decaf!
Got to have my caffeine!
I use to get the shakes, and I thought I wasn't drinking my share of caffeine, only to find out I was diabetic instead!!!LOL

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

I get the french vanilla sometimes too the problem is it is so hot I burn my mouth. I'm not used to drinking hot beverages too much. I now put ice in them but they are thicker or just more dense than regular coffee because the ice melts right at the top and then the drink towards the bottom is still hot. LOL So now I add more ice and stir.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Been there ,done that a time or two!!!LOL
Learn to blow before you take a sip!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I started with the Gevalia Coffee Club about 6 months ago. My coffee maker died so I joined so I could get a free coffee maker! Ain't that terrible?? LOL

From Starbucks I'll either order a Caramel Frapiccino in the summer or a White Chocolate Mocha in the morninining (lol too much coffee tonight!) or winter afternoons.

Nice diagram! Very descriptive!

Weatherford, TX

I confess to drinking it only when it is cold outside, only 1 cup, and only in the morning. I can't imagine drinking 'pots' of coffee. I would spend all day running to the restroom! Never drink it in the summertime.
Love cappuccino (tastes a lot like hot chocolate).

Does a frappaccino count? Love those!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Fun thread...I am also a coffee snob.... I've had to limit my intake to one half of a 32 ounce French Press pot in the morning, so it needs to be the best. When I travel, I take a hot water pot with me so I can have my coffee-nothing can mess up a trip like crappy coffee. My favorite coffee is Jeremiah Pick's Fogbuster and the best place to buy it (and lots of good coffees) seems to be Amazon, $33 for 5# delivered, whole bean.

Excellent poster, Beth...If I add anything to my coffee, it has to be heavy cream or an espresso as a Breve, but I rarely mess with my triple espressos, since I have them so rarely now.

Espresso milkshakes at home are an exception....mmmmmm.....

Paris, IL(Zone 6a)

Gevalia was a good coffee club. I dropped out because winter had arrived and I was laid off my construction job. Gevalia's coffee of the month was $3 per half pound and Folgers was $4 for 2.5 lbs. Something had to go and I wasn't about to give up my coffee. I just haven't signed up again. It's been 13 years. Maybe if my coffee pot breaks... LOL

(Zone 7a)

No giving up my coffee here! I have to have it. I have RLS and coffee and chocolate make it worse. The choco went.

Vanilla Latte used to be my drink of choice but now I have the Vanilla Nut creamer and I'm good to go. Still gotta have the carmel macchiato, though.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

I didn't much like Gevalia. Tried it twice. I'm not a Starbuck's fan, either, but in a pinch.
I also buy from the local roaster, if I can plan my trips to the coast ahead to order it roasted that day. That's very nice-but also more expensive.

Folger's isn't bad for a canned coffee if made strong enough, imo. Another I like is Cafe Medaglia D'oro, but not for a steady diet.
:-)
I understand about budgets, but no can do without the coffee-have been known to very carefully measure so as not to waste...lol

(Zone 7a)

When I worked farther south in the valley, we got a little coffee cart in the mall where I worked. I went every day. They started making my drink when they saw me walking down the mall. It would be halfway made by the time I got there. ☺ Loved those people. Made the BEST coffee. I've been told that since I left, they've disappeared from the mall. Huh. I don't THINK it was because I don't stop by anymore...☺☺☺

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I confess, every time I take the lid off the coffee,to scoop the grounds ,I have to have my nose inside the can to get a big whiff of the aroma of coffee,I use to have the same habit when I opened a fresh pack of cigarettes, when I was a smoker,I no longer smoke, but still love the smell, especially when somebody beside me opens up a new pack,I take a deep breath!!!LOL
Anybody like that coffee espresso that sonic has,a latte with ice cream in it?

(Zone 7a)

Oh! LOL Now you're talkin'! I could use a coffee about now and Sonic isn't very far away...I used to smoke, as well, and I still like that smell, too.
