thanks joey, and its my daughter

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Kathy, what a run you have had with your 4 legged babies. Hope they both are doing much, much better.

Will keep you daughter in my prayers also. What part of Tampa does she live?

Haven't heard from my family, they are either gone to get things or not answering the phone. Will try sister's cell in a little while.

Morning all. Yep, praying LF will weaken asap!!! AND leave Marion and her family alone...and Sis' daughter too.

Poor Sis. You must have accumulated some vet bills! Hope you got a reasonable one. Finally found one that won't take all you have for the furry kids, across state line. It's bad enough their heartworm meds are so expensive. Joey, my little Chi for a 6 month supply costs us $60. Wonder what's yours in Tx.?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh please, vet bills are the cause my sister had to go back to work after retiring. With 35 cats you can only imagine. I could live nicely a month on just here bill--lots of people could for that matter. I think it is called priorities.

Hope you are doing well Jaye.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sis, my vet doesn't charge me a lot. he likes my cooking too much

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Our fur babies (and in Kathy's case, feather babies too) are our family. Mine sleep with me in my room. My pets have cost me a lot this year too. Our rottie had bone cancer, such a terrible ordeal to go through. One of my labs, Katie, survived parvo then she was spaded, then she got an absess that had to be lanced and drained. The other lab, Kobe, had an ear infection that required vet care and medicine. Next, got my cat spaded, whew! I started to get the vet to write a perscription for their heart worm tablets and just buy them from 1800Petmeds. But they charge just to write it if you don't get the medicine from them. So, I just get it from the vet and be done with it. Some of the pain and antibiotics drugs are for humans and I went to the drug store to have those filled.

My goodness, Marion., with that many cats, I'd be afraid of interbreeding. That brings on more complications and vet bills right by itself. It's all I can do to provide health care for my three. I can't imagine caring for 35 cats without having kennel business.

Humm, Kathy, you got a good vet relationship. Maybe I should take mine a peach cobbler on our next visit.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

deb, i took my vet chow-chow and salsa today. he really was good on his price today
my vet comes to my house for cook outs alot, and comes to my annual x-mas party

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Ooop sorry Kathy, had Marions sister in my head. I'll adjust my prayer for her!

As far as HW meds and vet bills go Jaye, I'm fortunate. I am a registered Veterinary Technician, so I am ableto do a lot of my own treatments as well as have a lot of connections in the veterinary field. I worked for years at The University of Texas Animal Health Center so I know lots of vets LOL. I use plain ivermectin for my HW preventative. I buy a bottle for about 40 bucks and it lasts for over a year for both my girls. It expires before I can use it all. Ivermectin is the same ingredient as whats in the prepackaged treatments, it's just sold as a cattle wormer. It also keeps all worms but tapes away. I give all my own shots too except for rabies, got to have a vet certificate for that.
Last time my girls were at the vet was when they got snake bit. It happened late on a Sunday nite, so I injected them with Benedryl and Penicillin and took them in the morning. The Doc said that's what he would have done and to keep it up LOL, so my vet bills are not too bad.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol... smart trade there Sis. Hmm..maybe Marion, your sis should try that too. Folks around here are not used to spicy food, so my vet will definitely not accept that barter!
We don't think we'll reach 35 cats. 9 is enough! Next week, it's time for the tom kittens to be neutered first, followed by the females.
Marion, my legs feel like lead today. The increment in cholestrol meds also affect my stomach. I'll return to my usual dose and just lay off the rice ;) Rye crackers don't sound so appetizing....

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Ok, Kathy, I see. He's a friend who just happens to be a vet.
I looked into our states spade/neuter program for a reduced price ($50 vs $125 for my cat), but I would have had to take her to another town. The difference wasn't worth it considering gas expense. Besides, the program doesn't include after care which I feel is important.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Joey, that's what my ex sends me for the older dog...plain ivermectin, the liquid form.
Wow Joey-- so if we have any questions about our babies--we can turn to you? Nice to have a vet-tech in the group!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Jaye so sorry you've been feeling bad lately. Can you put cheese on that rye cracker?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL JoJo... it's really nice to treat your own pets.
My son and DIL used to own a kennel, had 10 breeds, over 100 dogs at any given time.
DIL used to do her own meds too when it didn't require a vet, otherwise, they'd have gone broke with all those dogs... she still has one dog (the Aketa died this year of old age), and continues all her shots and treatments at home. It's funny, the Fishmox they give for antibiotics to dogs, is just amoxacilin, and my son has taken it for infections to keep from going to the doctor... I used to tell him when he starts barking, I'm taking him to the doctor myself.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

deb, he wasmy vet first, then we became friends

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

hey everybody, i forgot to tell you today is sammy's birthday! he is 4

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Happy birthday little Sammy! Are you cooking him a special birhtday dinner?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAMMY

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

he is having doggie ice cream! he had steak last nite

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday Sammy :D

That's soooo funneeee BJ!!!!
I used to ask my pharmacist to give me some amoxillin, so I wouldn't have to go to the vet, back in La.. had 13 strays at that time, and none unfortunately talk back :D Wish they could..they'd certainly tell my ex off!
Hi Deborah! How are you, our new pc genius! I must get the gingers out to you soon...been waiting for the triangular boxes to come in. Perhaps, I'll cut the tops off, and the rhizomes will fit in regular boxes.. hmm..just a thought.
I'll be fine once I stick to a day's diet of rye and water!! Nope, can't do cheese...Kel is doing fine by himself!!
Just butter and a tsp. of homemade sugar free blueberries makes those rye crackers bearable..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Happy birthday Sammy--get well!

Okay all my sister's cats are either spayed or neutred. Over half are over 15 years old and that is where the problem lies. Jojo, she always wanted to be a vet but our Dad was against it--no field for a woman. But remember he was a lot older and this was back in late 50's early 60's. She has such high bills because: some have kidney problems requiring special care/med; some on prozac (suggested she might try some too); eating so had tubes. Some have to have transfusions--she does all this but still the bills pile up!! Had 2 put down while I was there, over 21 each, had cancer but was still trying to save them. She just can't let go. Thank can be both good and bad.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Marion, I do hope she's as attentive to your mom... and I do hope your mom can withstand all those cats too.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Jaye, just the rhizones would be fine. That's how I send out cannas.
Your sis would make a great Humane Society director, Marion. Sounds like she has a big heart like Betty White.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well that is what worries me. They are everywhere and I worry about Mom tripping. They are so old and everywhere. Yes, she does watch out for Mom but the cats do rule there. Think you might understand why it isn't always pleasant to visit.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

When my Japanese Chin was beyond help, she was 17, it was so hard for me to let go. It's like putting your child to sleep. Ex kept begging me to stop her misery...I was too selfish...
Now I know better. It's better to hang on to some good memories than to let your baby suffer.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I agree Marion, that's way too many cats!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

That is what I keep saying but she tell me I wouldn't understand. Duh!

Deborah, I would like to think that but sometimes we worry they have replaced life. Hard to understand unless you knew her. Don't get me wrong she loves her animals but her whole world centers around them. That is the troublesome part.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

We have cats but there is a limit.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I would be happy to help if I can. Not being able to lay hands on a critter makes it hard. LOL I have family in other states that call me up and say "My dog is throwing up, what makes her do that?" LOL Uhhhh.... about a million things?
But I love animals, I also trained to be an EMT, but didn't like working with people nearly as much. My DH is a paramedic and he is always wanting me to get back into it, but I would rather get bit by a dog than a people any day!

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Sorry that post was delayed. I was lamost done posting it when neighbor knocked at door with a bucket of Esperanza cuttings. Never roothed those before, but will give it a shot!!
