Hi all - duh, if the instructions for uploading here were a snake, they would have bit me in the derrier! Thanks though Bev! Ok, I am going to begin with some plants I inherited with the house that need identifying. Can anyone help with this? Its leaves, when they first started coming up I thought they were irises of some kind. the big leaf behind is one of my Hefalump ears.

Now, how about this one? At first I thought omg, I've got JKnotweed, but it is NOT that, and this also seeded itself in one of my pots, I guess last autumn when I moved in here.

Here's a photo of my Hefalump ears being bongo!

This needs an ID too - it is ubiquitous around here, grows on fine bluish-green feathery long stems, and the bees of all kinds LOVE them! It is some weird wild strain of Bee Balm?

Looks like Dame's Rocket??

Craryville, NY

Sorry, on that last image, the bigger leaves you are seeing are those of Dogbane and possibly one of the Milkweeds. On to milkweed:the pods that came from space!

That is ok Morrigan, I did the same thing when

That is ok Morrigan. I did the same thing when I started here 3 yrs ago. Redchic there are iris behind the vine that I have to move out but I think you are talking about the zebra grass hanging down right? BEV

And, the seedpods of Dogbane - non-edible plant that has grown like a sneakthief in with the milkweed stand: they look like french stringbeans (the pods, not the leaves) - WNYwillieB: Dame's Rocket, which one? The red or the spiky purple on the feathery stems?

Not dames rocket .... begins with a "c" cent .... something....

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Opps sorry!!!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I have a huge clump of something with a very similar flower and bud, but different leaves .... I am thinking it is related??

Could it be a simple bachelor's button?

WNYwillieB: Which photo??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Centaurea?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

morrigan, the first picture, the things with the iris like leaves, it's crocosmia. (crocosmia x crocosomiiflora....just crocosmia is what usually used)
it's hard to distinguish some of the variety types though.

Centaurea! That's it .... Thanks! Might it be a relative of that?

ID for plant in post 5355025 above

that's what I was going to say willie!!! Thanks for the info on the Begonia. i sooooo wish that they were hardy. The only place in the house that plants will grow for more than a month or two is ......the bathroom. My bathroom is already a jungle! But that begonia might be worth clearing a spot.

dragonfly, Yep, I think that's what I'm seeing. It looks good there and very graceful.

The following are also strange things that have popped up in my gardens!

redchic: I had mine on the floor in a shadier corner of the greenhouse for the winter where it was cool. Also watered it very little. Only when the leaves told me to water it.

I am going to make leaf cuttings of it. Hope it's not too late to start them. The stem cutting I rooted is just starting to take off. Seem to be pretty prolific.

I like this one because the stems are really thick, which I guess hold a lot of water to keep the plant going in the dry spells.

Morrigan .... is that puppyweed?

Good to know willie! Buidling a greenhouse is on my "to do" list. But, i must admit that it's pretty far down the list. Although, it's high up on my "wishful thinking wish list!! Maybe by the time your cuttings are taking off I'll have a spot in my bathroom? lol

Craryville, NY

Yes, I think you're right, puppyweed :-)) Here's the one I was talking about on the guy who was growing marijuana: it gets butter yellow flowers, I will send that next, from another of these "weeds" that my husband mowed, but it is beginning to come back, I had originally thought it was Sweetfern, but it is not. SO, the blue spiky feathery flowers are Centaurea and the red iris-leaved is Crocosmia? Thanks for all the help! Okay: Happy weed or separated at birth, you decide.

Did you do all the work yourself Dragonfly? What a wonderful memory garden as well.

Morrigan, those are some very cute weeds that have shown up in your garden!

And yep, you have both your ID's correct. You might be able to figure out what variety of crocosmia you have if you go to the plant files, It looks like a variety that might be hard to nail down with 100% certainty though. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=crocosmia&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&offset=0

Thanks redchic! Yes, they show up quite often. Now I can show off some of my wild things and a few cultivars if anyone can stand it....This is one of my Daylilies, pink. When we bought them, they were for Breast Cancer research and support.

We would love to see it all!!! cute weeds, pup weeds, and all the other varieties.

Dragonfly: I LOVe your memorial GD plot. We have one picked out, but have not planted there yet b/c we are going to dig a pond as its main focus, and put ashed underneath its liner and mixed with the plantings. Ok, here's the Faery House I have been working in along the edges of our drive, which we are slowly claiming back...actually, it's more like a Faery House, garden, and Faery treehouse...there is a little picnic area, and there will some perrennials planted there eventually, faery sized, or course.

puggyweed .... haha ... nice.

redchic: I had every window jam-packed with plants every winter .... Made the plunge in 1990 and built one off the back (south side) of the house (almost the whole length) 10 foot out. (32 x 10). Raised the roof and attached it to the top of that so I can look down into it from all of upstairs. I plan to remove the temp. wall that is there and replace it with some kind of railing (wrought iron??), opening it up totally to the second floor.

Ideally, I want the waterfall to spill over from upstairs, down into the greenhouse in front of the kitchen window on the first floor into the pond. (Who's got my lottery ticket?)

lol. I remember being on a party line when I was little. I think our street was one of the last in the country to change over from those.

That is a great shot of the Pine Victor!
