Thanks, All!
I wonder if your NO ID isn't Pegasus, bugme. She sure is purrty.

I prefer clay pots, as they are heavier and the epis don't tip over so easily hanging over the edge. Once larger, I guess mine are in hanging baskets.
Here is a close up, I just discovered I have, of the hylocereus in bloom. It is VERY fragrant of vanilla, I think.
I think I have flowers !
Very lovely. I wish my sense of small was better. I can't really discrave(?) the small of the flower last night but it was very nice.
Even with better senses of smell, their fruity fragrances are often hard to describe.
I have heard some describe the scent on the strictums as lemony ....
It is beautiful. I will be glad when my colored ones start blooming.
WillieB, thank you for that link. According to what I read the leaves have thorns but mine don't. She sits out in the woodland garden with her leaves sticking out everywhere but I keep her watered and fed and will take her back to her winter greenhouse in the fall. This one blooms once as I've already stated and it is always around Mothers Day.
Wren, I recently saw a lady's exhibit where she had taken her photo of the white bloom like your's, then photo-shopped it in black and white..........what a stunning photo. We're so accustomed to color and it is beautiful but in b/w the contrast just screams out at you!!
Oooh, a Vanilla Scented Epi?! I would love one of those! Vanilla is one of my favorite fragrances and flavors! I drink a lot of Diet Pepsi Vanilla and Vanilla Cappucino! I am addicted to both!
WillieB: That bloom is absolutely gorgeous!
cmdelg: Oh My Goodness ... That pink one is so Amazing! My favorite color is pink! Now if someone could just hybridize a pink one with the vanilla scent I would think I'd died and gone to heaven!
If I keep lurking on this forum I am going to become addicted to Epi's!
Lin, the pink one is gorgeous, she has no fragrance whatsoever, BUT, the buds last a long time! Clemen
Clemen: Even without fragrance it is one Beautiful Bloom!
I don't now what the scent is but got epis has two pinks with scent, he is out right of them right now but you could send him a e-mail and ask.
Oh, Thank you Wren!
Guys, don't you just love watching a thread and getting to know each other? Clemen
Yes, it is fun! I spend most of my time on the African Violet Forum but go "lurking" occasionally on a few others!
Hi Everybody ... I never really introduced myself - I'm Plantladylin aka Linda aka Lin
Nice to meet you all!
Yes though I'm not a guy.LOL
I may be of line for a time having computer problems. get to call help line. which will be fun. I know less that a 3 year old about computers. I am a southern lady with a accent to match and it is always fun when I have to talk to some one from another country.
I am Wren107 or Sandy
Hey Wren, funny, I though you were a guy, and guess what, you are talking to someone from another country, me that is, although, now I am a full flesh US citizen. BTW I went to school in TX and I jus love Southern Accents, hee hee,
Nice to meet you Lin, Clemen
Cross posted Sandy, nice name! Clemen
I have a feeling I am out numbered!!
Wille, don;t say that, we love you anyway! Not outnumbered whatsoever!
Hey! Who told you my name!!??!!
:-)
mmnnnn, just wondering, Did I guess right, lol!
Buffalo, NY, too cold for me. I am in Nassau county close to NYC, 30 minutes to the city by the LIRR. How can you stand your cold winters over there? Clemen
Wren: I too am a Southern Lady, born and raised in Coastal Virginia but my family has been in Florida now for 41 years. My husband has lived in Florida since before he was a year old. I don't think I have an accent but folks up north say I do when they hear me talk! I remember as a kid we had some distant cousins come to visit from Michigan. We just sat staring at each other and kept saying "Say something" ... we were all so enamored with each other's accents! LOL.
My husband's oldest surviving brother and family have lived in upstate N.Y. all their lives and I love listening to them talk. They get a kick out of our "southern" speak and we get a kick out of their "northern" accents! We say Y'all and they say Yuze (sounds like use). I love to hear Texas accents and Mississippi accents too! It's just such a wonderful world we live in with all the different dialects and pronunciations! I've heard that other countries have the same thing ... different areas have different accents.
I hope you get your computer back to normal real quick! I am very technically challenged but Thank Goodness my husband is all about technology - he teaches in the Aviation field, the technology of Turbine Engines and Aircraft Systems! Waaay over my head! We have only Macintosh machines in this house and he knows them inside out.
Oh, I don't envy you having to talk to a computer tech that is possibly from another country! We have had major difficulty at times with that. No fun in my book!
Funny that you think winters are cold here, clem (and yes, correct guess!!) ... darn newspapers .... always spreading those rumors. Actually, I am one of those freaks who skis and toboggans and snow mobiles and .... well, I think you get the picture. When I lived in Texas, I missed the snows and the thickening of the blood!! But, I sure did develop a huge appreciation for the rain there.
Winters have been much more than mild lately, esp. compared to childhood. The climate is definitely shifting toward the warmer in these parts. Well, except for that freak 2 foot snowfall in 2 hours, Friday the 13th, Oct. 2006. Trees all still had leaves, all big branches broke, no power for 8 days. Yes .... I love it!!
P.s. I have some family out there, Kings Park way, clem .... cousins were first responders on 9/11/2001 and one is in that famous photo of the boys raising up a flag.
Oops ... I missed a couple! Yep ... it's true sometimes about us slooooow southerners! ^_^
Hi Clemen! I love your name ... where were you born?
And ... Willie: Hello there! You may be outnumbered but hey everyone is welcome, right? There have been a few guys show up on the African Violet forum at times! Buffalo, NY? Wow! I have seen on the news the SNOW y'all get in winter there! I often wonder what it would be like to live someplace that gets so cold in winter! I would have to hibernate. I could never drive in snow and ice ... too scary. I am getting old and every year the heat and humidity get to me more and more but I know I couldn't survive in a real cold climate!
then, Lin, you must "SnowBird" and spend your summers cool, up here and your winters warm, down there!!
Mom does that, but she's in AZ.
And, it's really exaggerated about how cold our winters are. Once in a while, before Lake Erie freezes over, we'll get a Noreaster or Alberta Clipper that will cause a lot of snow (warm lake plus cold wind = mondo snow!!) Last January we had two weeks of VERY warm weather in the 50šs with several days in the 70šs.
We've had a LOT of practice in dealing with the snows, so that when they come, it is no big deal.
My goodness, Willie, I am reading this and I cannot believe, although we are close by, NY state wise, you live in Tx and so did I when I was in high school, Dallas, it was. Lin I am originally from Nicaragua, have been in the states for ages and ages, married a Spaniard that i met in college and we have 2 girls that drives us crazy! lol Clemen
I guess the media makes it seem a lot worse than it is.
Yes, there are many Snowbirds in Florida! When my mom was living, she was in a mobile home park in Fort Lauderdale. In the summer time she had only one neighbor on her street ... they all flew back north. November - May finds many Snowbirds down south! That is exactly what I'd like to do when my husband decides to retire in another 6 or 7 years! The plan is to sell the house, downsize to a townhouse, buy a larger boat to travel the waterways for awhile or a motor home to travel the roadways! But we will definitely be in Florida in the winter!
Willie, don't send me any snow here tonight ok, did you get hail today, weather wise over here was crazy, sun, cluds, thunder, lightening, more thunder, more sun, OMG, really weird, Clemen
Lin can I come and stay with you? lol, looking forward to warmer weather in the future! Clemen
Clemen, how old are your girls? They will outgrow the "driving me crazy" stage! Kids grow up in the blink of an eye! My DH and I just celebrated our 39th anniversary this past Saturday and we were never blessed with children so won't have any grand kids to spoil.
Ohhhhh, well my girls are 15 and 17, and my 4 legged son is 5, lol, a bichon frisee. God bless married 39 years, wow, I have been with DH for 22 only, so that makes me a baby compared to you! How do you do it, I hope I make it to 39 years married too and that God gives us good health too! Clemen
39??!!?? Daaaaaaay-um (can I say that??). Congrats on that, Lin! Well done!
Won't send any snows, just yet, clem, rest assured!! Hail, rain, wind, thunder, lightning, etc., maybe. ;-) No hail today on my property, but there was some in the area, and yesterday, too .... tomorrow should be sunny and pleasant.
cm: I was in Houston for the big boom in the early 80's. Lots o' good memories. Like Hurrican Alicia!! I love hurricanes, but not the damage. Never felt so much "energy" or "electricity" in the air. Quite the experience.
I still say mine are better, lol, yours, I feel like putting my winter coat on, lol, not just yet ok, can't you just wait for Jan or Feb or something?
Thanks Y'all ... ^_^ marriage isn't always easy is it? I have always said I think it would be awfully hard for any two people to live together for a long time and have it be perfect . Whether you are a married couple, single with roommates, male, female ... it just has to be give and take and sometimes compromise as we age and change. I was 21 when we got married and my husband was 19, he turned 20 twenty days after we got married. We have had our ups and downs like any couple but we have grown together. We sometimes don't like each other but we always love each other.
LOL, Clem - about your 5 yr old son! We have some old gal's in our family ... all felines, ages 14, 13, 11 and one real old one @ 20. I miss having a dog in the family and when some of the old gals are gone to kitty heaven we will get another dog. I love visiting my sisters ... one has three very large dogs and the other has two large dogs!
