Good picture, wish I had figured out how to use the flash earlier when mine was blooming.

How many buds do you have? I had five!
It will open wider than that.
They can take it cool. Mine that bloomed was left out side all winter with out protection. It get down into the low 30's a couple of times.

WIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIEEEEEEEE, is this your baby tonight?
WNYwillieB: Amazing night time photo of your beautiful flower! A friend on the African Violet Forum got some of us interested in taking nigh time photo's of our outdoor plants last month ... I had never thought about it before and it was a lot of fun. Plant photo's sure look different at night. I love how the image just seems to "pop"with the dark background!
Laura: Nope, I don't have an Epi in the ground. I have one very, very large Epi. hookeri in a container out under a tree in the backyard that stays out year round, but have never planted it in the ground. It is a favorite plant of mine because it was given to me by a dear elderly couple back in the mid 1970's. I have yet to see an open bloom, always miss it and find the spent blooms all wilted!
I recently bought a hanging basket of QOTN at Wal-Mart garden center and I have a couple of small ones I received in trades about a year ago. I also received an Epi in trade called (I think) Heaven Scent, which I'm assuming is fragrant - can't wait for it to bloom.
I have a Ric Rac Orchid Cactus that I bought 8-10 years ago and had never seen a bloom until a couple of months ago. I didn't know it was a night bloomer. I was so excited when I saw the bud ... kept watching and waiting ... one day I went out and the bud was all slimy - I thought it had bugs or something so posted a photo on this forum and asked if anyone could tell me what was wrong with it. That's when I learned that it is a night bloomer, it had apparently bloomed the night before and that was the wilted flower! Now, I'm watching and waiting for more buds on that one! I will not miss it next time! It's hanging right outside the bedroom door on the pool deck. I sure look forward to all of my Epi's getting a bit older and blooming. I'm hoping some of them are day time bloomers!
Thanks, all!
Yeah, she finally blasted open .... at which time my camera batteries promptly died
:-(
At least I got a couple shots of it at this stage ...... There's always next year!!
:-)
P.s. I took the plant into the kitchen and sat it on the counter, keeping it in the dark, then turned on all the lights when I wanted to take pics.
Here's a close-up I got just before the camera batteries died.
beautiful willie!
