I think I have flowers !

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Guys the flower should be white, I have seen the mom!

(Zone 1)

Oh, the flower will be white even with the bud being so dark in color? I bet it is going to be a gorgeous flower ... and large from the looks of that bud!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh, OH! White it is.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Lin, I know the bud is actually reddish/pink color!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I looked back and mine was reddish too.

That's right ... I had forgotten you posted a pic of your buds before the bloom opened. I guess I'm just used to my E. hookeri and the flowers on it are white but the buds are always white too.

I sure look forward to the day when some of my other Epi's bloom ... I hope I get some with red or pink flowers! I do have that Epi Oxypetalum like y'alls so it's good to know those buds will be darker but it will have the white flower.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

If mine bloom next year I will have some of every color or combined color. Thought I might have to wait till the year after for some of them.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

How long is yours wren??, hi lin

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

That is the bud that just bloomed. Just before it opened it was 12 inches long. But remember this was a forgotten plant, that had no care for over a year.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Ahem. The morality police know what is running through your heads. Yall go take a cold shower, now.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am a female so that does not apply to me.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Here she is today! She is about to I can feel it! Can't hardly wait!

(Zone 1)

Clemen: Woo Hoo ... Looks like tonight's the night for you to see those beautiful blooms! I can see your buds have begun turning up and look like they are slowly opening.

I am so glad Wren posted the progression of her blooms. I didn't even know they began to turn up when they were getting ready to bloom ... kinda like they are turning towards the light of the moon, since they are night bloomers! LOL.

Laura: I bet yours will start puffing up before long and making that up turn!

Can't wait to see y'alls blooms!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

My guess is that in the wild they are moths are the pollinators, so the flowers turn up so they can land on them. Sandy/Wren

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

How is the flower coming along?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Nice bloom, and I saved the pic, so I can get my wife energized about these things taking over our house.

Clemen,
I am glad to see the pictures ! Did you move the plant in when you knew it was going to open ? and if so did you have it in light? I would like to bring mine in when it opens too because the mosquitos around here this year with all the rain are like the size of sparrows and they seem to be waiting out there for you . I think they have walkie talkies " Here she comes get her"
laura

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning. It looks great. It probable stayed open if it stayed dark when you had it.

Laura I moved mine several times with no problem. And I understand about the skeeters. They are huge down here too. I once went bird watching in Dec. and one manage to bite me through several layers of clothes and a snake boot!!!!!!! The ones down here have landing wheels and gunn sights.!!!!!!
Sandy

Wayland, MA(Zone 6a)

geeze wren I shouldn't be complaining to you about rain! I hope you are able to stay high and dry down there
: ) laura

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

We are high(for Florida) but not dry. Lucky my house is on a small hill so other than being very soggy we are ok. My epis are all on the carport so they are dry. Why oh why did I buy so many???
Oh well I will be able to redo my so called shadehouse and repot all the epis that have getten to big for their pots.
Sandy

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well after this storm finially gets its slow rump out of here, I will have a few broken off pieces, that I know of. So we will see once I know what they are if the name tabs are not out in Texas!!!!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I have been watching it .... sooooo slooooowly it creeps.

Glad to hear you have a hill!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I was born in this crazy state and there has never been a storm like this in my time.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

What a show that must have been! 5 buds open simultaneously. Missing it, such is life. I guess there is always next year.
