Loved my side trip to watch boojum's cactus flower open. Cool.

Victor, Cool bee shot too, as good as it gets.

Here is a strange plant that I bought on May 15th at Walkers in Vt. It is still scary looking and blooming. I love it. But I like odd plants. Patti

Glad you liked my cactus flower series-worth staying up. Patti, that flower looks like a nightshade. Does it have a name? Victor, I want that camera!!!!

bbrook--I have a similiar Solanum...It is commonly called the "Bed of Nails" plant. The species for the one that I have is quionese(sp?) The leaves are wider than your species, and the leaves are green with very deep purple veining. It's suppose to flower and the fruit are supposed to resemble small oranges...from it's native S. American home the common name is 'Narajilla' I hope I'm spelling that right, it is supposed to translate into "little orange."

Paul and I crashed tonight at about 8pm or so, now I'm wide awake. I could spend about 2 or 3 weeks down here. I did not realize that the Botanical Gardens where NOT a part of the National Arboretum, nor did I realize that the National Arboretum is so far away...definitely not walking distance. I took a cab from the hotel to the National Arboretum yesterday, and I didn't realize it was so HUGE. The botanical gardens are located on about 3 acres or so right near the Capitol building, where as the National Arboretum is located on about 460-470 acres, about a 10 minute drive out...I didn't have a vehicle, so Paul and I are going to stop back at the Arboretum on Friday as we are leaving town...so far though, STUNNING. I took over 250 pics of the Arboretum, and I didn't hit the Asian garden, or the Evergreen/Dwarf Conifer gardens. I did take a butt load of pictures of the Bonsai and Peijing exhibits...wow is all I can say. Downloading and cropping all of these pics is going to take a bit. I am up over 600 pics, I have no way of downloading them, lol, thank whomever that Paul got me a 1gb memory card for this camera...it's supposed to be able to hold 2,000 pics...we'll see....lol

Thom, I just looked up your, Solanum quitoense “Naranjilla”. Those leaves get huge. I doubt I would have room for it in the GH this winter, but tempted. Thanks, Patti http://www.anniesannuals.com/plants/plant_display.asp?prodid=993&account=none

I bought this red mottled plant last spring. Now I see I did not enter it in my journal. It is getting bigger than I had hoped, but I will trim it back and make cuttings. There may be a tag stuck down in the pot, I hope. Any one have it? Love the color. Patti

Tremendous bee pic Victor, that new camera seems to work really well already.
Big red thorns out of leaves, yikes. Such an unusual plant, glad you gave us a look.
Thom sounds like a really nice trip you guys are having, can't wait for some of those pics.
Some pics from this morning.
