You need a good fence, if there is a will there is a way with goats. They will find a way.
The P & L Daily Chat Thread #2 "buck-buckaw!"
i want a goat. i can never have nothing
Post Office just called, my last order is in. ughhhhhhhhhhh.
your LAST??? ever??? or just this week??? hehehe
ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Well at least until I can figure out what I want to keep out of the 300+ I have. I am quite sure this is it until spring.
Hey everyone!!
I've been right out straight! Every time I get a chance to log on to DG I spend all my time reading trying to catch up!! I must say though I'm glad the 'fairy' hasn't waved her wand at me!!
TF-hope the dogs don't come back. I wish people would learn to keep their dogs in their own yards.
The weather has been crazy around here the last couple of days-some places got almost 2" of rain in an hour! A tornado set down about 50 miles from here-the last time there was a tornado in RI was back in 2000!
Yesterday I was dodging heavy rains to pick greenbeans-I finally gave up and just got totally soaked! And the tomato hornworms have been horrific this year!
My chickies have been doing great! Two of the roos are really getting their crows down! My little banties(same age as the buff orp roos) haven't even tried yet!! It's funny one of the silky girls is the boss of the coop! When I bring them their morning treats(leftovers-lots of veggies and pasta!) she is the first in line! I've really been trying to leave tidbits in various areas as some of them don't like to share. I have one buff orp that just walks off because she is such a scaredy cat! I feel bad for her.
uggh! Gotta go!
Sue ☺
Oh Sue i know what ya mean with the bossy ones in the coop. i have a few of them. It looks like them flesh eating fish in the yard when there is scraps out. You can send some of that rain our way, was hoping we would get some of Dolly's rain but doenst look like it. I am doing everything I can to just keep the garden watered and trying to do the yard and flower beds, thank goodness we are on a well so not that expense. Just the electric bill.
l2g2, I know what you mean about the water. When we lived in the city, we had restrictions on watering the garden or lawn. Lost an entire lawn one year from drought. (Of course the lawncare people didn't let us know they had sprayed as we weren't home and it burned it completely up.) Plus, we had to pay for water and sewage.
Much cheaper with a well, only a few pennies a month. And can water all we want.
GG
Good to hear from you again, Sue!
We don't have individual water meters in my section of town--they charge by a small "districts" total use and divide it up by what they "think" a house your size would use. Never seen anything like it....but it is not uncommon in small towns here. I would love a well.
I got them I lost 7 keets tho. All the pullets look like they will make it. the pullets dont look anything real special, but the keets do, I have 2 white and a lot of brown tone and a few grey tones. I hope it is ok to feed keets medicated crumble, that is all I have.
yep, it's OK... but they need more protein...
hi sue, waving at you!
the sooner the goats and chickens get used to each other the better.
mine get to go out sometimes, we keep an eye on them. they have not wanderd, but they like the chicken feeders...
yea and it is said that chicken feed is harmful to goats, someone forgot to mention that to my goats
frans530 what other goats do you have? She's probably having trouble adjusting to them. The kennel was a good idea since she should not be sleeping in the open all the time. Goats like their shelter at night.
PeaFowlAnjL a fence is a must. Goats are wanderers by nature so no they won't stick 'close to home'. They always think the grass is greener somewhere else.
oneanjl sad to say but your DH is right. You need lots more than a 1/3 acres to have goats. Remember that goats are always plural. A goat by itself is a mentally ill animal. They need another goat around or they slip into a deep depression.
MollyD
Oh gosh that is so right, they will bawl. It sounds like someone is killing a woman that has a sore throat.
oh, my friend's goats are kidding like crazy! tow nubian bucks from one, then two bucks and a doe from another.... still waiting for ChloeGirl to freshen so she can come and live with Brandywine...
since i mix my own feed, the chickens get the sam ething as tgh goats... but if the goats are out, i have to close up the poultry shed, they think the chickens have THEIR grain, and they go in after it, silly goats, they are let out to GRAZE, not cause trouble...
fran it will help if you teach her to follow you wherever you go... well maybe not, esp if the neighbor has a loaded gun LOL
tf
lol I woke up this morning out of a dream...........was fighting with mom I wanted to get a few goats to "mow" down her 2 1/2 acres, she was a hollering at me you mow it, I said no, you mow it or get a few goats.
LOL
oh tf... dd is laughing like crazy.. 24 hours and I can't go pee.. she cries for me when I am out of sight.. lol
As soon as we are all gone she settles right down.. but as far as humans.. she cries till I come..
If it's is not love--it is co-dependence--which is almost as good!
yea, cuz sooner or later it will be mistaken for love.. and it's ALL good!
AND... my chickens are jealous... they are all over me to pet them and they have been playing very coy lately...
I love being the pied piper.. or as dh calls me.. the lemmings lemming!
Miz Taynors!! Quit rattin on me!! .... LOL
Been a very looooong week ( 67 hrs) and I have to go down tomorrow to get my CPR re certified...I didn't get home till 9:30 tonight...
Frans.. Ya want about 175 more goats plus 9 Barn cats to keep em company??? Maybe more... havent seen Momma cat in 4 days... and she was HUGE... maybe 9+ 6-7 more by now... NOT MY CAT!!! I would have had her spayed .......and alllll of these Kits of hers too...I almost broke my leg getting in the house from my van tonight tripping over Kits all over my porch instead of being down at the barn...Grrrrrrrrrr!!
oh no be carful, i know how it is to trip over animals.
my 2 shihtzu just got out and took off after a stay. almost got hit by a car. i fell flat on my face chasing them
oh no. be careful.
glad i got them back in. i was so scared. i called my husband and chewed him out for leaving the gate open.
RU OK? tell me you fell in a compost pile and not the asphalt...
YEA.. A COMPOST PILE... WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED.. oh my, sorry about the caps.. I wasn't screaming.. I was just typing loud..
