Hi Dords. If they are cheeping and moving there is a very good chance that they will be fine--they can even cool down quite a bit during a power outage and still be fine. Cooling down can delay the hatch--but I think if they are moving and the peeping one has broken through to the air sac you should soon have chicks! Just keep the RH up at 70% or slightly above. So don't open and peek too often:0)

Okay Sue.. If I'm conscious by then...Where do you go??? Someone said there were 2 places??? I went to the one just off Main St by the bank??

Clarkson, KY

Y'all, I have never met a worse bumpkin than a Manhattan bumpkin. Can't understand how any idiot could not know what station to get off at for what. A bit like my fryers - bred in captivity. Of course not all of anybody is any one way, but if you want someone with limited horizons go to where they have too many Buildings to see it. It's amazing how THEY can think WE are limited. Tomeanywayendsermon.

Phyllis is lovely -all she lacks is one of those elegant cigarette holders a foot long.

We have one tiny chick just hatched! The eggs I bought were first of the season and only bantam sized. This is a Barred Rock. It still seems to be stuck to the shell by a thin thread (about cotton thickness).. Will this come off naturally?

The yolk sac has been absorbed too, so it's a small miracle considering what they went through.

It's quite exciting!

Clarkson, KY

Go girl! Congratulations! Do you have others pipping yet? Sometimes I cut that little stringy thingy with nail clippers if it doesn't come off quickly or the chick is active enough to be dragging shell around. Minimum interference is best but I'm no expert. Maybe the hatching queens will come on soon...

Lodi, United States

Yea for one tiny chick! May there be many more!

They frequently have a "thread" left from where they were attached to the yolk--it should just dry up and fall off naturally--like an umbilical cord. Can you send a picture?

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

Oh baby pIx's! I wanna see too!
Spent most of my life (35+yrs) in city. Been country for 10+yrs. And will NEVER go back - ever! Freedom at it's best! City people can't figure why they are always so stressed, uptight..... I say, just look around :o)

Waipu, New Zealand

Hello people - managed to take a photo, though it's not that good. He's two hours old now and doing his best to stand up. (Hope this is normal). I can hear cheeping from three other eggs now, so all good.
Photo of chicky breaking out also included.

Have a great day (nightime here).

oooh.... how precious! show me more!!!

I live in the city now...but its really against my will! lol! feel like such a prisoner here ugh!
I cant wait until DH and I can get out of city and into country. We have been looking forward to it for quitea few years...only 3 more years to go...
I want to be where there are no neighbors....no cars, no freeways ( I have freeway right behind my back fence!) no gangsters shooting people and holding up stores...etc.
where I can have animals and space and nature... I guess thats why I like this forum so much :o) lol!

Clarkson, KY

Great pics! Looks like you're all doing very well to me, but I like the updates:)

Sorry I ranted back there. Hit that proverbial nerve I guess. Nothing going on in the country, nobody knows or is interested in anything. So many things that (to me) apply more to city living. When you want nature, hit the jogging trail... When does a jogging trail ever have cute chickens??? What do they do for entertainment???;-)perhaps I am slightly biased...

AnjiL Berkely is a cool place to live !!! i wouldn't call it city. I lived in San Fran area Born and breed in Palo Atlo LOL
i love Berzerkley. :) and Santa Cruz too. Love all the neat shops. That stuff i miss Oh i also miss Pacifica wit all that FOG , NOT . LOL
No worries on the rant grownut, we've all done it
Its all how you look at things . :)
I will admit i do miss the culture oh and the food !!! . THe theatre , and Museums !
I don't miss the parking in San Fran LOL going up a hill and then BANG a stop sign right on top uhg. :)
but i can always make it myself and rent an Opera if i want. So i adjust . lol
I love the pics of the chicks !! so cute
Yep i go to the one by the Bank too Dusty
I think there is only one ?
take care everyone
got to wake the kids and hit the farmers market
sue

Clarkson, KY

Thanks Taynors!! It's (more than anything) the assumption that the country has nothing to give that gets to me. As for culture, we have some reel great furren culture right here in rural Ky that's at least as interesting as living abroad was. Which would you prefer -mountain oysters or sea urchin?...

are we talking Rocky Mt Oysters or are we talking Ocean oysters as in Rockafeller style LOL Hmmm that is a tough one to decide ?
Hey Dusty just finished my spuds and beans
still want me to take them jars ?
call me :)

Lodi, United States

I'm thinking she means the Rocky Mountain kind. Sustainable living in all its icky glory!

I would eat them however--I will try anything once.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

in a house? or with a mouse?

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

sheesh! here I am racking my last two brain cells trying to remember the next line! ugh! I MUST be getting OLD! cant remember....something about rain and a train?
once upon a time that whole story was stuck in my brain forever! lol!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

in a box? with a fox? here, there or anywhere... funny, jus tposted on a thread about a fox...

Clarkson, KY

I do not like green eggs and ham or Rocky mountain oysters, Sam-I-am!!!

Clarkson, KY

Or sea urchin come to think of it. Had it in Japan. Help!!Seuss on the brain!!lol

Lodi, United States

:0) I'd say something, grownut--but then tf would reprimand me and I would have to do penance. I hate doing penance--it takes up so much of my time already.....

Lodi, United States

Dordles--How are your chicks doing?

Clarkson, KY

I think my being new is the only thing that has kept me out of penance today. Too much fun.

Dordles, are you sleeping?? We're all wide awake over here;-)

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

lol! well, on second thought... I think I'm GLAD i forgot the words to that book! lol!

*now if I could just forget about baby blue cat and the whole batch of cookies ! lol*

Clarkson, KY

1Angl my DD came in and read the whole book to me. You are blessed!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

My grandson that is living with me will start school this year and will probably be reading that to me before to long. OH JOY.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

well, I AM enjoying the 'break'..... but I'm certain my DGS will soon be demanding that grammy read it to him 12 times in a row...just like DD used to! lol!

Sis is gonna kill me for this! lol!
But here is a pix of when DGS met his Great Auntie! lol!
