I think after much discussion that we have decided to stick with standard size birds. I thought that was what she had, but apparently they are bantams.
So there are still some out there for the taking, if anyone else wants some banties.
The P & L Daily Chat Thread #2 "buck-buckaw!"
How old will the pullets and ducklings be we just ordered from Ideal ?
How long should we keep them seperate from our flock ?
How long on medicated feed, or do they need the medicated ? I figure maybe 2 weeks on medicated, then feed chic & duck starter like we did the others .
Non medicated is 20% protein 'Dumor Stater Grower Feed is what we have had the other ducks and chics on since about 3 wk.s old.
we have a new thread called chicken raising 101 to keep info like that handy. also there is a duck thread, though not official.
they will be 1-3 days old when you get them, with the hatch date on the label. what date did she give you?
NO! I'm not saying Ideal was exspensive, just all the things we have done lately to get organized [ fencing, wire, chic wire, post, metal coverings, etc,] with the ones already here . Plus with my illness costing extra too it has been above the budget past couple months or we would have ordered more earlier .
yes, i get it. the fixed ocsts are high. once you have a space for them, you want something that will pay you back. those brown leghorns are the best layers, you will love them...
did you find the other info? i would help but in the middle of vocabulary [summe rhomeschooling] with my fiesty, bored, 9 yo son...
tf
She said they would go out on the 30th and be at post office on the 1st. Thats good because by then we will be completed our pen and can get prepaed 'this time' for them .We also have lights now so we won't have to use hubbys heat pad .
I know there are many sites that i can go to, but I can't ask questions like here if I don't understand .besides thats why I joined the site for info .If you'd rather me not ask you any more questions ,let me know .
Either way you have been very helpful so I'll understand . I notice a clique here like all other forums but didn't feel you were obligated like most .I guess I never should have mentioned the donkey to a horse person ,it seems to threaten them for some reason !
Tamamra I'm sorry most of my info has had to come from you .I will go to that site and see what i can learn ,I need alot, huh, lol.
it is this site dear. my children are very time consuming... clicjk on the words pouyltry & livestoxck forrum, & you will see all the threads. we tried to organize a little more to make info easier to find, so click on the chick 101 thread & i think it is like a Q&A. your answers are already there, or you can ask again..
don't get the donkey horse thing, as i am both, used to be a mule skinner. i think that taught me patience fo r my children
Ok so the sites here , sorry for mis-understanding.
The reason you don't get it is because it isn't meant for you ,haha.
I love horses and all other animals, but some reasson mos horse people fear donkeys and mules .They can kiss my ass 'donkey' and then they may change their mind about them .
We would go to rodeos and equine events and always took our donkey along with our horse .Some would come up and ask all about the donkey, but most would ask stupid questions like'what do you do with that 'or what good is it '.
What busniness it is of theirs why we love donkeys and horses the same but for different reasons .
We miss hauling ass.We named out place ' Sassy Ass Acres '.
U R 2 funny. i am finally FINALLY done with my kids school work... now to run errnds for hubby whil ebaby naps...
i bumped up a few threads. it's easy to type a little here and there between their work. but they get ansy and whiny sometimes, and just drag it out. esp today, my DH gave him his spelling/vocabulary, and i was looking up definitions on the internet to save time, but DAD spelled at least three words wrong!
since i am getting ducsk too, maybe i shoudl start a new Q&A thread just for ducks.... and you can post your questions first...
if there are any "cilques" in the P&L forum they haven't told me, so they must be excluding me LOL...
asnd here is the duck thread now...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/880437/
I noticed they seem to be 'excluding us both on this thread ,lol.
Maybe it's a initiation for new people .
Thanks for the help .How many kids do you have ? Are you homeschooling them ? I have 3 middle aged kids and 12 [one we lost in 93,bless his soul] mostly grown grandkids .
We can't wait to get the new birds .Maybe we can cuddle these ducks without getting stitches from talons .We do have one chic roo who is very sweet 'so far' and loves to be held.
tf, if I call ideal tomorrow, do you think there is a chance of any ducks left? I work & they will find it hard to call me back (I get 75-100+ calls a day). If they leave a message, will I have a chance at getting a person at some point?
know you 'passed the baton' but hoping you may have an idea.
Thanks!
tf has retired all her powers are gone i think
(although i was thinking she might have a little bit left)
josh
lol yea, I think she finally got to get some rest, or I sure hope so. Hope nothing is wrong.
maybe the patch helped her put up the wand?? for good?? i think not the patches arent that strong to get rid of all her urges i dont think

URGES? ;-P~
PFanjl, give it a shot. there are lots of extensions listed in Mollys first post in that thread... and use the 800 number i posted. then when you get their oicemail i think you can press # or * to try another extension...
tf-still tired and re-tired today.
i haven't re'cd a call today, but assume the ducks are on their way. my older chicks are about to get freed from their brooder to have the whole run of penthouse #5 on Coop D'Ville Lane...
Coup D'Ville Lane LOL I love that!
Thanks, I did not get a chance to call today. Way too busy. Will call before work tomorrow. If meant to be, they will still have ducks left......
i call y coup the chicken manor and the pen chicken estate lol very original
Hey Josh, do you have a Hill's Hoist? They are going to try to market them here and I want one! Will the chickens roost on them?:0)
well, i have been hiding from th post office this morning. every one is a little under the weather, soemthing making our throats scartchy, either from mowing thi sweek or from something in the pool last night. the poor duckys have been there for three hours, hope they are hardy. off i go!
well, ten of the ducks will be reshipped in two weeks. and they were the ones i wanted to keep too... ;-(
how/where is everyone today?
tf
I have been out adding nesting boxes to the coop. We are getting about 15 pullllet eggs a day and I think that there may be more just not enough room so they are going elsewhere to lay. Also getting a home ready for my pulets from ideallllll. THink they should be here tomorrow.
What's everyone else up to??
i'm eating pizza
cleaning, baby sitting yard bound birds, did I mention cleaning.
now that is NOT fair, no pizza, I am making chicken in crushed maters with okra, yellow squash. Just YUMMY.
We are preparing for our ducks and chics coming the 1st.
Also finishing pen and watching cock fights ! We may have to seperate these roos until the other chics get older , it's 2 hens and 3 roos here now.Other 10 pullets will be here Aug.1st , Of course we have to keep them seperate till they grow some.
I picked up my new baby today.. and have just spent hours calming her.. she doesn't trust dogs, and doesn't know what a chicken is.. and is acared of the sky... she pretty much stayed in the barn with her sister and stepsisters. Now she is alone.. with a few dogs, chickens and a mommy... overwhelming I think.
right now she came with the name courney.. haven't changed it yet.. she is so pretty.
Oh, she is so beautiful!
My border collie went through a phase where he was afraid of everything--including the sky:0)
I think it is a sign of intelligence.
frans530 she is beautiful! Is she a pygmy? A little grain goes a long way in making a goat feel better about everything ^_^ Mine act like it's Mom's cure all for what ails ya!
MollyD
no.. she is a registered purbred nubian.. just 3 months old.. has a long way to grow.. isn't she a little bit???
I just decided to "lock" her in the kennel vs. her standing out in the cold... she has stood in the same spot for hours.. I was trying to wait her out.. at least shes not screaming.. I almost wish she was.. screaming is normal for a nubian.. But I am worried about her catching a chill and it is chilly out tonight.. so I did lock her in.. it is a large (900) plastic kennel.. and she is just at 20 lbs.. I think she'll be fine.. I am usually up by 5 and there is plenty of straw so anything wet should drain and I will clean it in the am.. but as I said,, guilt free cuz shes out of the night air!
lol.. dh left dd in charge to make sure I do not bring baby goat in the house...lol, he even called to check... what, is he a mind reader???
aww! shucks! I just showed DH the pix of your baby and he just said NO and walked away! :o( sniff sniff!
I tried to convince him that goats eat lawns and he wouldnt have to mow...or weed... and its still a big ole NO..."not on this 1/3 of an acre...wait til we have 10 acres"....ugh!
thinking maybe if I get a few goats he'll HAVE to get those 10 acres sooner?! tee hee!
That's the way Lucy would do it! But you would need an Ethel to help load them into the car.
LOL! Catscan, my 'nickname' on the mixed seed nuts is Lucy...and Lorraine is Ethell.... hmmm, maybe I could rope her into my scheme? tee hee!
while I'm at it, thinking a few turkeys and some pheasants too? that should definitely do the trick!
love that nubian!
i am getting over major allergies after DH mowing and me pulling weeds.
got my ducks. sold a few. naturally she took the cutest ones LOL.
baby is not nearly ready for sleep. but i am about to give it a try. he just has too much energy LOL.
What a sweetie the nubian is! Once acclimated, do goats 'stick around home' without fencing? Or can they be wanderers? Asking, cuz no real fenced in area here, except where the hens are at night & don't think there would be enough room for all. Thanks!
oooh! that would be a great idea for you cheryl... no riding lawn mower issues!
i'm getting 2 more keets today! can't wait
