Just playing with the new camera.. This is the rope of garlic Gail brought me back from Mexico. I was taking a picture to send to my son and thought I would show you all how much garlic is on one rope...LOL.

Hi, Jan! You are too funny with your string of garlic and your new camera. It takes good pictures. What kind of camera did you end up getting? I sent you a very important email telling you that you sent sooooooooo much money that is not due me.
Therefore, you will be getting streps for all that money (LOL)
********I am impressed that you know how to put that little message with your picture........too cute of you!

Dracula will be staying away from you with all that garlic!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Jannich, how pretty you are!
Can I ask you, seriously.....what do you do with all that garlic?
Do you eat it or is it just for decorative purposes only?
I don't really eat garlic or cook with it but it seems like that is alot of garlic.
Funny too, because I like the flavor of garlic. Maybe I should start cooking with it? *lol*

GREAT picture of you too :)

Kim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

She thought she was getting about 7 or 8 pods but this was the only string of garlic I found on the streets of Progresso.

A couple of pics and then I need to get ready for a funeral of a friend's young son of 28 who took his own life. These are the hardest funerals for me.

I can't remember what I named the file........bummer...........later

(Zone 1)

LOL regarding Kim's comments about Gail fighting off all those cute Texas cowboy's! That is so cute. Aaah, there is something bout' a Cowboy though, I must agree! And, hey Kim ... there are some "older" cowboy's who aren't so bad either!

Ahem ... Listen to me, a married lady of 39 years and I'm day dreaming about Cowboys! Oh well, as my Mama always said, I ain't dead and nothing wrong with looking!

My Goodness Jan ... Wow, that is a lot of garlic! What a great picture of you too! I love that settee! I would love to have something like that in my garden. I can just picture wisteria or jasmine growing up the sides and over the top - perfect spot to relax in the shade with a good book and a nice tall glass of sweet tea!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I don't know what it is but cowboys have always done it for me *lol*
Richard Gere, in a 10 gallon hat, tight jeans, cowboy boots with those little metal spikey wheels on the back of them *lol*, carrying a lasso.............yep

(Zone 1)

Richard Gere? He's no cowboy! I'll take Tim McGraw or Alan Jackson, LOL.

I gotta admit though, I love Richard Gere and Julia Roberts movies!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I haven't decided whether I am going to or not........because it only last 9 months and I know I will never have it done again.........what a waste............

Sorry you are working so hard, Dimmer.

I have Richard Gere and Julia Robert's move memorized (LOL)
Richard Gere is soooo sexy looking to me but I think he may like men better than "Pretty Woman"

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Gail, you are waaay too funny!

I just figured for an "older" gentleman, Richard Gere was cute.

I would LOVE to see Jean Claude in cowboy attire..........now we're talking.

For a man of color, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Cuba Gooding. And as a distinctive, man of color I love Morgan Freeman. Both outstanding actors in my opinion.

OK.........I better go cook supper before I have a heart attack here dreaming of Jean Claude........wow.........

OK, hubby would make a cute cowboy too *lol*

That's it.......I better get outta here before I get myself in trouble *lol*

Have a great weekend ladies :)

Hi all!

There's no way I can possibly comment on every picture, but you know I love all the Streps and Sinningias! That's about all the Gessies I'm going to try to grow anymore, besides Petrocosmeas. They're all just so beautiful! Wish I had room for one of each! LOL

Jan, you look beautiful in that picture! Love the garlic! Bet it smells yummy, too! I need to get my DH to build a bench thingy like you've got there. That's really great!

All you ladies and your cowboys... Firemen are much better! ;o)

Here are two of my little Streps from Violet Barn that insist on blooming, no matter how bad the plants themselves look. I've disbudded these twice, and they still keep trying. They don't have the best flower form in the world, but the plants are pitiful, so give them a bit of leeway. I do think they're going to survive, though. They're putting out new leaves. Whew! I was worried I would lose them all. They're on the bottom shelf where it's coolest, so they attract dog hair like magnets. You'll just have to ignore that. ;o)

Here's Strep 'Bristol's Mello Jello' There are two yellow stripes in the throat, but I don't know if you'll be able to see them. Other than that, it's not any more impressive than any of the other million or so purple Streps.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

And this is Strep 'Bristol's Static Charge'. Yes, it's purple again, but I love the netting and there's a bit of yellow in the throat of this one, too.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Petrocosmea 'Momo' is doin' her thang again! LOL I thought these were supposed to be seasonal bloomers, but nobody told 'Momo' that. ^_^ This one is sort of backlit. Looks kinda neat. LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

RainGazer, awesome purple streps (not like all the rest) and that bloom from a petrocosmea blows my mind! They hate me.........all the petros hate me...........

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow everyone, SUCH pretty pictures.

Here's a new one for me, Chirita heterotricha. Normally heterotricha has pinkish blooms but my friend had this one that "sported" which he shared with me :)

For a while I wasn't sure this plant was going to make it. I cut the first round of flowers off because I wanted to strengthen the plant but it just refused to stop trying to bloom so I let these develop so that I could see what they look like.

I'm still nursing this plant big time but I think she just might be a survivor :)

Thanks, Gail! I love the Petrocosmeas! Wish somebody would really start hybridizing them. I've tried several times to get seed pods, but never can. I'll keep trying, though!

That's a beautiful Chirita, Kim! I'm down to only C. tamiana in the Chirita department, but that's alright. So many of them get so big, I just don't have the room. Looks like you've done a really good job of nursing that one! :o)

I've not been on DG much because I've been so busy! How come nobody ever told me how busy teenagers would keep me??? I hardly have time to breathe some days! LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love it that we all share pictures! They keep me going and make me feel like I am not the only person growing some of these 'weird and normal' plants!

Yesterday my brother put up a wire cattle fence for some morning glories that I ordered from the Market place here on DG.

They don't look pretty now but the show will begin (I hope)

***Rain, I just read your post and do I ever remember what 3 teenagers were like. I ran from morning until exhaustion at night, but it all pays off, I promise. They actually grow up to be good citizens and you still love them as much as when they were babies in your arms.

Amy, my son drives now and has his own car but I remember what it was like when he played sports and wasn't old enough to drive himself *lol*
Now my daughter (14) wants to go here, there and everywhere *lol*

Gail, that looks FABULOUS! That is just going to be stunning when it all fills in!

Tomorrow hubby is rototilling the front garden wider for me so that I can move about 75 Iris there. Big project.........lots of dirt........woo hoo *lol*

Kim

Gail, I've given up on trying to be normal, I am happy just being me these days! LOL

That fence is going to be beautiful with those morning glories all over it! I've got a trellis I grew morning glories on a couple years ago. They still come up from the seeds. LOL I'm trying to grow Confederate Jasmine on it now, and it's growing but it's so SLOW!!! Everybody said the first year it would sleep, second year it would creep, and third year it would leap. I think it crept last year and has gone back to sleep. I found a variegated Confederate Jasmine in Florida that I'm going to plant there, so maybe it will help fill it in a little.

Everything my teens are involved in is church related, so I really can't complain. They're on the drama team and sign language (performed to songs) team and have lots of practices and performances. I'm really proud of the young adults they're turning out to be, and I know no matter how utterly exhausted I get, it will all be worth it. ^_^ It's nice to know I'm not the only one that feels a bit frazzled from time to time, though. ;o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love it! I stay frazzled all the time and my kids have been gone for over 20 years (LOL). A good friend asked me a couple of weeks ago how I kept up with myself.........that I made her dizzy thinking about my life.

YOu are ever so right about normal. I am not sure what normal is but I don't care either. Life is good, I am happy and my kids are happy..........God is good all the time!

Gail, the morning glories are wonderful!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Another addiction is coming. I just ordered a whole lot of great morning glory seeds and I am very excited. If my current plants take off with blooms I will post for you all.......thanks, Sally

Merry Christmas is so neat! So pretty!

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness ... Gail, those Morning Glories are going to be amazing climbing up that fence! I can't wait for you to post a photo when those have filled in and in bloom! I love morning glories. I have a few little ones sprouting around the yard ... I think birds must have dropped the seeds for me, LOL because I haven't planted morning glories in years. I bought two packets of seeds in spring of 07 and never planted them, ended up giving them to a neighbor. Last year there was one that grew and twined all the way to the top of that huge schefflera in the back yard. It was so pretty when blooming. Our mailbox (along with 3 others are at the corner of our property and years ago I took some scalloped concrete edging and made a pretty little flower bed around the mailboxes and planted different stuff. Then one year I made the mistake of planting asparagus ferns there ... they got so large they almost covered all the mailboxes and we had a problem with snakes - even found a snake inside our mailbox a time or two but I think it was the neighbor kid thinking it would be funny because there was no opening for that snake to get in there except if someone opened the door. I finally got my husband to dig all the ferns out and it's looked bare and bland there for too long. I might just have to pretty up that area and add a couple of morning glory vines!

Gail, that S. Merry Christmas is really beautiful! That name is perfect for that one! I really like that X Codonanthe Vista plant ... I remember seeing Kim's photo of it a week or so ago ... and it had such a lovely bloom too! You gal's can really grow! I had some of that one called Paula once too that came in a trade (I think from Amy.) There might be a little smidgen of it in with all the stuff in the 10 gal terrarium, I need to look.

Well, another busy day today. My DH pressure washed the wood deck and today I rolled a coat of water sealer on it. I moved in some hanging plants and as soon as the deck is dry I am moving the furniture back out and some more plants!

We are not having the guys who were working on the pool deck come back! 2 1/2 weeks and not a very professional job. My husband has spoken with the owner of the company and he will be by Monday afternoon to talk to us and look at their work. There are lots of places that need touch up. He is going to leave us 2 gallons of the deck coating so we can do the touch up ourselves! The workers taped heavy paper around the entire perimeter of the screen enclosure and also along the french doors but there is paint splattered everywhere! I cleaned the glass on the french doors. They also got paint spattered all over the back of the house that we had just painted last month so we will be repainting that area. My husband has been working on replacing a lot of the screen in the pool enclosure today. It had a lot of cement stuck to it but the screen was way past needing replacing anyway and was on his to do list. Glad he didn't put all new screen in before the pool people started work!

It has sure been an experience that I am glad we won't go through again! They told me I would have to move all the plants I had sitting out in the back driveway because that is where they would be "staging" with all their equipment and cement mixer and stuff and they didn't want to get that white cement residue all over everything. So ... I moved tons of plants off the driveway and put them behind the shed. The others I just shoved over to the side of the yard by the fence and covered with old sheets. Some of the shrubbery out there got white stuff all over ... hopefully after a few rain showers it will be washed off. Anyhow, I happened to go out behind the shed the other day and they had dug a huge trench where they said they had to wash out their buckets and things. Whichever one dug the trench just took shovelful's of dirt and dumped it on top of a bunch of my plants! Smothered them! And, I had a large pot of Arrowhead Vine out there that is covered in white from the masonry dust or cement or whatever it is. I have sprayed and sprayed with the hose a few times and the leaves are still white. I'm not too upset about that one though cause the Arrowhead vine grows like a week and I have a spot in one of the flower beds where it's sprouting again! I found one of my Black Pagoda Lipstick Plants dumped under a tree behind the shed with some dirt piled on part of it but it should be okay ... doesn't look too bad. I had it hanging on the side of one of the plant stands out there and they must have moved it because they were working in that corner. One of the plant stands had some small aloes and jade plants and that entire shelf was covered in heavy sand where they dug the trench! Arrrgh! I am so glad those guys are gone, never to return to my house!

Well, I guess I will go back out and get to work. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I certainly don't envy you having all this work done in such heat. Glad at least the major mess is over with and the guys are gone!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Gail-
Go for the Botox! I would if I could!LOL
Beautiful blooms everyone! I have nothing in bloom right now- umm...you actually have to water to get blooms...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love everyone's enthusiasm about me trying to decide if I want botox! This is too funny. If you could see the wrinkles on this 66 year old granny's face, you would know I should try it.

Yesterday I got a letter from my 11 year old grand daughter who is in camp. I had written her to tell her all the news from home........told her I had killed a 4 foot rattlesnake last week. When she wrote me back, she said, "Nana, you are one tough granny"! I got the biggest kick out of her letter.
