June, Blooms 3
You will ^_^
I really enjoy it alot and before you know it you will have more than you can handle *lol*
Kim
Kim you have a fabulous bunch of plants!! Beautiful and healthy! We all leave the ugly, not going to make it ones in the back ground ... Have to concentrate on the living to stay in this plant game!! LOL
Blue Mars is gorgeous and one of my all time favorite streps for all the reasons you mentioned! That Codo Vista is fabulous, what a pretty little bloom, that plant loves you!!
Celene all the pink in your episcia really makes it a looker! Sally you'll have to show us when you get a new picture of Cleopatra in her "huge" version!
I moved my Tractor Beam strep into my office here so I can keep an eye on the seed pod that is developing! Thanks to Kim I gave "crossing" a try and here is the result .... look to the far right of the plant and you can see that seed pod coming along!! Yea!
~Brenda
Hey Momma Brenda :)
I see your pod there! That is AWESOME! Congratulations!
What did you cross it with again?
Isn't it fun imagining what the babies are going to look like?
I'm going to get some of those mesh wedding bags this weekend at Wal-Mart for all my pods so that I don't lose any seeds.
It's about 4 months before they ripen but they seem to ripen overnight.
That is so exciting Brenda! Congratulations again!
Kim
Brenda, you grow the prettiest streps! They love your cool house I would imagine plus your 'Midas Touch' to growing them.
Kim, I am jealous that you gals know how to hybridize.........guess it is not in my repertoire of skills to do anything but stick leaves and take cuttings (LOL)
Everyone, say a little 'prayer' for my leaves from Brenda that had been 'sunburned' (along with a lot lot of very green leaves). I pulled one out last night and they are getting a couple of roots and standing tall at this point.
Have to find a picture when I post. Crimson Blaze is one of the few I have with many blooms right now. (I did order bulbs for the first time from IGS with wide spectrum) I will have to wait and see what it accomplishes.
Very pretty Bonnie :)
Love the variegation of the leaves don't you?
Great contrast to the flower.
Nicely grown :)
Kim
Wow! Tractor Beam is one Gorgeous plant! And, so is Crimson Blaze! Such vivid color!
Bonnie: I am loving Iced Pink Flamingo!! Where in the world have I been? I had no idea there were any Strep's with variegated foliage! Love it, and of course the pink bloom too!
oh my,there are so many varigated streps now, kind of old news. But they sure are pretty.
mrsbonnie
Bonnie, I think I sent you a leaf of Shenendoah's variegated Shooting Stars.....really pretty one............never get tired of the variegated ones.........
hi gail;
yes you did.really pretty foliage.
bonnie
So many beautiful flowers ladies.Make my day to look at all your pictures.
Kim ,WOW!!! Your plants look great. That X-Codonanthus has the cutiest little flower.Love the color. That's awesome your Mothers day sinn is selfing.
Celene.Your pink dreams is beautiful.
Brenda, girl what can I say.Beautiful as always. You can sure grow the streps..
Gail, that strep crimson blazee is a nice one. Love the color.
Bonnie.The var. streps are awesome!
Forgot to say that I love love Ice Wine ..........let me go see if she has a bloom.......
I purposely took a picture that includes Ice Pink Flamingo beside her.........The wine is a totally different color (and she is not as big a plant yet) The Ice Wine seems to have a lot more purple in her bloom than Pink Flamingo and the foliage is so variegated that she is a slower growing plant.
Gail, those are both beautiful! I just don't have any idea how I've not seen the variegated foliage Strep's before now! Maybe it's just that all the vivid colorful blooms get my attention! What a perfect combination though ... big stunning flowers and variegated foliage ... Perfect!
You have given me an idea.........am going to try and find out how many variegated ones there are..........be back in a few days and see how many I could find.
LOL Gail ... don't tell me you are going to order every variegated one you find? hee hee ... I can just see your shelves now! Well, actually you'd probably have to buy new shelves - just for the variegated leaf plants! ^_^
Wow it looks like I missed out on alot again this week..I really do need to get on here more often..lol..Beautiful Pics Everyone : )
Oh, Blue Tail Fly is such a cutie! I love those wasp blooms!
Crimson Blaze is a beautiful strep Gail! I hope those sunburned leaves pull through. I need to set an alarm each day so I'll pull the blinds at 10:00 a.m. each day. I have just been frying my poor streps in that front window now that it has finally turned summer here!!
Nice Wasp Sally ....
Strep Hot Ticket is one I have a hard time catching the vivid color on .... but this picture shows it well!
~Brenda
Brenda: Hot Ticket is gorgeous ... love that fuschia bloom with the yellow throat! And, there are so many beautiful vivid blooms on that Surprise Party, I wouldn't have even noticed the leaves if you hadn't mentioned it.
You ladies can sure grow these Streps!
My leaves you sent are holding on so far, Brenda! That Surprise Party is so pretty. Yours is prettier than mine was. I didn't like mine and sold it at one of the sales. But mine didn't look that good or vivid in colors.
My Hot Ticket has its' first bloom........this is an older leaf Jim K sent...........
Sally, my Blue Fly Tail Wasp is just finishing blooming. Yours looks great.
Just so you all don't think I have totally lost my mind, I sold some plants on Marketplace last week and will continue to do so as time passes.
The reason:
On July 24th on my first appointment, my periodontist and oral surgeon in San Antonio will pull 5 teeth and put in 8 dental implants. There is such a risk of infection for several months while more work is done that I am downsizing very quickly.
The good news is I am trying to swipe a leaf from everything that goes out if it is the last one........taking care of leaves is no biggie.
By the time the leaves need potting up I will be healed and have a mouth full of teeth (LOL)
PS. There is so much good news to this...........this particular dentist has a day spa and does all kinds of Botox, etc.........I asked him if he would do all that to me while I was on an IV drip and knocked out. He said YES! I have always been too big of a baby to do anything like that. I figure if I am going to have to go through some misery, I might as well look good in my face for about 9 months anyway .....still laffin'
How cute is that!!! How much fun.
How thoughtful is that, the perfect gift for you Dimmer/Kim!!
Gail I'd be right behind you for some of those great spa services if I was going to be knocked out anyway! ^_^ Those dental implants are awesome but your right, the healing process takes an good long time and you have to be very careful! My DD is a dental assistant and her boss had them done. So take care of yourself!
Those roots look great, plants on the way for sure now! Maybe i should pull one of mine up ....
Here is Hoya Pusilla IML 78 blooming for a second time this summer. Love the cute fuzzy blooms....
~Brenda
You have really gotten into some fabulous hoyas, Brenda and I still can't believe you have them blooming in Idaho...............completely blows my mind that you are doing it!! Are they outside or inside your house?
Congratulations. Don't worry about anything but botox because I am a coward when it comes to any kind of surgery not absolutely necessary. The reason I could never 'do botox' is because my mouth can't be numbed with a needle the regular way. I do the 'IV drip' sedation. (and that wouldn't be deep enough sedation for an eye lift (LOL))
Gail: I had dental implants about 1 1/2 years ago! Had it done during the holiday season so my insurance would pay before the year was up. I had just four done on the bottom where an old 3 tooth bridge had failed. They had to do 4 teeth because the back molar needed to come out because of an old root canal that had failed, which meant there would be nothing there to hold the bridge, therefore the need for 4 implants. I heal rather quickly which is good. My recovery was fast. I think it was 2 1/2 months after the posts were implanted that they put on the permanent teeth. I could only eat soft food for awhile which helped me lose a few pounds. Unfortunately I have now gained it back and then some!
I had never had any kind of surgery in my life so needless to say I was scared silly! I have never been in a hospital in my life (except to be born!) Anyhow, I did not want the IV sedation ... I was scared to be knocked out, I wanted to be able to know what was going on and tell them if I felt anything. I had a root canal back in the 70's that I had major pain from. I had another root canal in the 90's and the endodontist used lidocaine and I never felt a thing. So, the oral surgeon gave that to me as an option and I jumped at it. I swear by lidocaine! I don't like novocaine because I get horrendous headaches as it's wearing off and I hate that feeling of being numb and swollen. With lidocaine you don't get that feeling at all.
Wow! The surgeon I went to has a large practice too with many other surgeons in the same building. One lady asked me if I was there for a face lift ... I laughed and said no, dental work. I guess she figured by looking at me that I needed one. She said she had had a lot of work done by one of the doctors there ... I was NOT impressed - her face looked like it had been pulled tight by rubber bands and her eye brows looked like they were almost at the top of her hairline! I was stunned when I studied her face a bit (as she was chatting with someone else!) Believe me, she was NOT a good advertisement for that doctor!
I always said if I could afford it and wasn't such a chicken I would have my chicken neck taken care of! But, I can't afford it and I can't imagine going under the knife. Too scary for me. I have had a lot of dental work and many fillings without novocaine or anything but my dentist knows that he will know it if I feel anything! I threaten to bite his and the tech's fingers if I ever feel the slightest pain! One time a filling was deeper than he realized from the x-ray and I felt a little bit of pressure when he was drilling and he stopped and wanted to give me something but I told him to continue and he did, slowly and I had no problem. So, dental work doesn't bother me but the thought of surgery really does scare me. I don't like needles!
Brenda: That Hoya pusilla is so pretty! Is that one of the tiny leaf ones? I just got five hoya cuttings in the mail today from a trade I did with someone here in Florida. I can't wait for all this work to be done around here so I can get my plants back into the pool area and get organized!
The pool guys were here today, put two coats on the deck and it is like ice! Pool decks are not supposed to be slippery! I am going to call first thing tomorrow morning and ask them what's going on. This has been a real fiasco with this pool deck. The guys who did the refinishing inside the pool and plastering showed up at 6:00 a.m. one day and worked until 2:00 p.m. and were totally done. We now have water back in the pool and it looks great. The guys doing the deck are another story ... like dumb and dumber. We have had so many problems ... it's been two weeks and they still aren't done! I sure hope it's all finished tomorrow ... I want to get my furniture and plants back out there and arranged. We sure would not recommend this company to anyone after what we've been through. A neighbor told me today that someone she knows just had their entire pool and deck redone and the entire job was completed in two days! These guys have shown up at 10:30 a.m. a couple of days and left before noon. Doing the job in bits and pieces and not doing things correctly. A real joke. I know after it's all done my husband is going to have a talk with the owner of the company. Luckily we pay in thirds. One third at the beginning of the job, another third was supposed to be after the pool had water in it and the last third after the job is completed. We've only paid the first of the three payments so far. Been back and forth on the phone and playing phone tag with the owner and half the time he has never returned calls. Amazing the way some do business. The funny thing is this company has been family owned locally since the early 70's and has a good reputation. We've been buying supplies from them for 30 years - but the son is running the refinishing part of the business now. He does not do any of the physical work and really doesn't seem to know exactly what steps go into pool refinishing ... contradicting what the laborers are telling us as to the process.
Well, I am rambling here ... guess I will go read since there's nothing on t.v. Hope everyone has a great evening. Keep those lovely photo's coming!
Lin, I have no choice as lidocaine or novacaine has never numbed my mouth even to have my teeth cleaned. When I had a colonoscopy, I told my son in law (who is a gastrointerologist) that I would tell the dr. doing it the colonoscopy that I didn't think the numbing IV would work. My daughter was in the room and the doctor was horrified that I was wide awake and felt everything he did. He even told my daughter, "I am so sorry for your mother. I can't give her anything else or I am going to kill her".
When that was over the doctor told me to never have another one without a general anesthetic. So , everyone's body is so different. I would never ever have cosmestic surgery done for any reason. I am just considering botox as normally they give you a frontal block like a dentist does to administer botox . Since that doesn't work for me, I will never have but one or two excuses in my life to have an IV drip again, I may get the botox.
This is Bonnie's seed of a cross she made between Mark Twain and Ozark Fireworks. Who is creative with a name for it? We have to grow it four times to be sure it comes true each time. But she is a beauty of a sinningia and deserves to have a name.
And no, I have never had dental insurance. I wish I did!
I misspoke when I said a general anesthetic..........what they use for colonoscopies now is called a Mac anethestic. It is not nearly as dangerous as a general anesthetic. The anethesiologist takes you under only as far as you need to be and he can bring you out of it instantly should he need to..........very safe for minor procedures. I remember reading that President Bush used the Mac when he had his colonoscopy.
Gail, you are like one of my sisters. She has to be put out for everything, novocaine and lidocaine don't work for her either.I haven't heard of the Mac anesthetic, sounds like it is much safer than being out totally.
Ok, now tell me, where are you having the botox? I would love to have my frown/smile lines plumped/removed, but I am so afraid of needles... Isn't it wonderful that you can have it and the dental work all done at the same time?! I love that idea! I go to my regular dentist next week for my six month checkup and cleaning. I feel bad that you don't have dental insurance, believe me I know what an expense it is. When I had just the 4 implants my out of pocket expense was @ $6,000, I have no idea what insurance paid.
That Sinningia cross is adorable. Wish I could help with a name but I am not good at all coming up with unique names. I can't even think up cute names for our pets! Of course I have no idea how you'd go about naming a cross of two plants either. Do you have to use parts of one or both parent names? Or can you just name it something entirely different?
I think she can name it anything she wants..........I think she needs to pick a name that she can start hybridizing other ones with the same first name.......example, the Ozark series from Harris, etc.
I am not the least bit afraid of the needles if it doesn't hurt (LOL)!!! With Botox and Resilyn (not sure about that spelling)...I do know that Botox gets out those deep wrinkles but it is a form of paralysis so they can't use it around your mouth or lips. I think that is where the filler Resilyn (once again I can't spell it).
Must admit I thought I ws going to cry all the way home about how much it is going to cost. But I look at it this way. I don't have the C word. I didn't have a heart attack or a stroke. My health is good so far except for every tooth in my head had a root canal at one time or another and I am still losing all of them.
If I had something horrible happen to me, I wouldn't hesitate to spend my savings.
OK...........I can't talk about it again on DG!!! I am lucky that teeth are my only big problem in life right now.....That is a good thing in life!
Tomorrow I am going to take some pictures of new sinningias opening up.....waaay too exciting for me.
Hey, Gail, I won't recognise you with Botox!
I haven't done it yet, Sally (LOL)
Hope I have the courage to do it just one time in life!
Morning!
That apron is too cute kim.
The snningia is cute Gail.Your right,it needs a name.Your a brave woman getting all that stuff done.LOL.
Hi Brenda! I'm so glad AC 1503 is booming for you. Shes a beauty.
Wow that is beautiful!
Gail, you get Botox and you'll be fighting off all those cute Texas Cowboys. How I have always wished hubby would dress like a cowboy.....I find that look.......so.......well.........HOT! *lol*
You don't need Botox though my friend, you are naturally pretty :)
Bren, I can't believe the size of your streps! That Hot Ticket is SO pretty! Your Surprise Party is to die for! If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for you to grow it that big? It's SO pretty!
Kim
