Help with Moms yard :o)

AnjL
Nice hunk and nice arbor. Good catch. Happy Anniversary.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! It's so nice that you both work on garden projects. Your yard is absolutely lovely.
So glad to made it home safely and to such a wonderful vision! What a MARVELOUS arbor (is he providing written plans for those of us with less carpenterically inclined DHs?) Excellent work on your mom's place. . .you and yours should be extremely satisfied and proud. And a very happy anniversary to you and DH with a wish for many, many more.
Happy anniversary - and I can't help but notice all those good potential projects scattered across the background of the photo - lets see, some concrete, some timber..........
Happy Anniversary! Looks like your first year ended on a wonderful note! Love the arbor! It's just beautiful! Your dh is the MAN!!! Whatta guy to help you with your garden design and design the arbor and build it, plus all the hard concrete work!
And your mother's place is gonna be fabulous when all the plants grow and fill in the garden you and your family created for her! Looks like everyone is a winner here! Congrats on ALL the gardens!
Anjl - Your plants having grown in the time you were gone is such a lovely greeting on your return home. I think God was smiling on you out there working so hard at your mom's place. I think He decided to "SURPRISE" YOU! :-) You truly deserve it!
Both your DH and your arbor are keepers. Very nice.
Thank you all for your well wishes and especially those of you who sent seeds and bulbs. I really appreciate it.
I love my garden. It is so much better than all that grass. Now I will have to start planning on what to do with the backyard. We plan to use the sod cutter in the fall and mulch it over the winter. Then in the spring we will plant it with shade and semi-shade plants. I want to add a patio area too.
Give me some ideas of shade loving plants.
Thanks for any help.
Pat
yay! mom is now online at HOME!!! and can join us more often!
okay mom, its monday...where is my weekly garden pix? go ahead and post it on here :o)
oh, and what did ya think about that wet heine shot I posted?! tee hee!
Cheryl is sending the pictures. As far as the wet rear end just remember, I have pictures that you wouldn't want me even to show Ron, so watch it. Remember, paybacks can really be a b***h.
Looks like one of the Coleus has bit the dust, but the one you thought wasn't going to make it is still hanging on.
I am starting to get strawberries!
The bulbs and seeds are starting to come up. I will be glad when my yard starts looking like your backyard. The picture of GD and GGS is great. I put it on my desktop.
Hugs
Mom
Seems odd that the moles moved in so quickly - maybe you "disrupted" another route with your makeover. I have moles both in my yard and in my garden - I don' t think they care whether it's clay soil, grass on top or anything else.
My brother tells me that he had great success getting them to abandon tunnels by putting used cat litter down the tunnel entrances. I haven't tried that yet, but certainly have enough used cat litter and mole tunnels to do so!!
Looks great!!
Might try that if they don't leave my bulbs alone. I have three cats so I have an abundance of litter.
Pat
do moles eat blue star creeper? thats what was planted between the walkway stones. I would have thought they'd go after the bulbs or veggie plants instead?
How are the strawberries doing?
any seedlings or bulbs come up yet?
Moles don't eat plants, they eat meat. Worns assorted crawly things. It certainly looks like mole tunnels, but something else like voles are taking the plants, maybe down into the mole holes.
Thank you, Willowwind2! I am sitting here reading the above posts and thinking to myself ... moles are not bad creatures because they eat the bad bugs and aerate the ground. My plants actually do better with moles in my yard. Though the little tunnel humps all around my yard isn't so attractive, but I'll take the moles any day over beauty of the ground! LOL! My bet is some kind of worm or beetle or caterpillar.
LOL Becky. If your plants are planted close enough to each other you will never notice the mole tunnels.^_^
My little fur babies, all four like to use the mounds for, Nice potty holes, they love the fresh soil.
As far as the plants missing, what where they? and how is the Slug population in that area. I have seen them take a plant over night, and sometimes they leave no slime trail. The little tiny babies can cause the most damage. Carla and I have talk about this, Slug-go and the other pellet's you get the babies can't eat it. I have found them under rocks and they don't leave a trail.
Tills
Tills, they were blue star creeper.....but it looks like the whole plant is gone (roots and all!)
After looking again today, it appears that only 2 are missing. One appears to be a mole hole; however, the baby plant could have fallen into or gotten churned up in the whole. the other is just gone (or it is possible I think we planted one there). It may have been slugs. In Gate, it is a slug-a-thon. The other side of the garden, where the walkway ends is a definite mole hole, no plants there. In the front area, near the street, could be moles or the ground getting wet, then drying and cracking with bulbs pushing up areas. Not certain mole holes there.....
Tillysrat, thinking you are right. I will keep an eye out. They have let the first bulb area turned up alone since replanted them. May not like the area there. I too thought they only aerated the soil & left nasty hills to trip on in the night.
In Cali, had a gopher stealing my peppers (including jalapenos) but do not think there are gophers here. Don't really know if Vole's here. Never heard anyone complaining.
Strawberries are starting to grow. All the bulbs and seedlings are starting to come up. I can't wait till it looks like your yard. I am impatient.
lol, mom.... the secret to MY garden is.... you have to leave for a week...work your hind end off in someone elses garden....and then come back home so exhausted that you dont even have the strength to walk outside to SEE your garden! tee hee! THATS when it'll all grow...when your NOT ther to see it all bloom :o)
oh wait...what was that saying you used all the time?
Patience is a virtue? tee hee!
Yeah, and I always said "I don't have any". lol
lol tills...
your Tilly looks just like my 'mama' who went to WA a few years ago to live with mom....
Mom.... can you post a pix of mama??
Mama, What a name for a kitty, LOL
tee hee!
Actually, I got her from the pound about 9 yrs ago.... they were going to put her down :o(
she was dropped off with a litter of newborn kitties and spent 3 months living in a cage. All her babies were adopted out, but by that time she had lost all of her hair due to stress of living in a cage so long :o( . When I got her, she was bald and skinny and puarring up a storm! lol!
the pound vet named her 'mini mama' cause she was just a baby with babies....
we promptly shortened her name to 'mama' once she gained wait and her hair came back! lol!
I had no idea what color or type of kitty I was getting. She is multi colored in patches (like your tilly) but she is HUGE !! lol! about 4 times the size of my poodle! and she 'fetches' bouncie balls...so she was my 'doggie mama' til she went to WA and retired with my mom :o)
2nd best kitty I ever owned! (Dusty is first but only cause I've had him for 11 yrs, and being a siamese he gets a little bent out of shape if he's not THE KING! lol!)
Love the pastel calico
Wow, poor kitty But happy now, no doubt ....
She looks like one I had years ago, and named a funny name ' mouse mouse' She was called a tortoise calico. same striped tabby like markings but in circle patches. She was Sassy's mom, most all her kittens look siamese.
Had to take a new pic I downloaded all of my pics, when I started having problems with my pc. only have the newest on it now.
