Anjl, Sorry you had to leave us. Hope you have a good trip back home. Did you get to look at properties in Port Orchard? I saw an 11 acre parcel for sale between Shelton and Olympia in the Shelton Journal today. If you are interested I can send you more info on it. Patricia

Anjl
Marvelous! I can't believe the energy of you, your sis, and the kids!!! Great family - I am in awe.
WOW Anjl, your progress is amazing! You are all doing such great work, and what a sweet son you have to help like this. It really is wonderful to see three generations working out there together…very inspiring :-).
tomato's in pot on far left. Strawberries in tippy pots. english sweet peas, yellow, green and red bell peppers and zuchini in wine barrell.
petunias and allysum in walkway bed on far right.
butterfly garden around the lamp post.
Lilies, day lilies, iris in center bed to right of bench.
rosemary, JM, canna lillies in center bed left of bench.
yellow flowering bush, bayberry, hebe's in front bed along street...
we're getting there! this pix taken at about 4pm
arent you done yet?? lol!
mom had lots of moss growing on the stones in lower right of the pix. sis removed them (they go at the bottom of her steps to the deck) and DN killed the moss with a mixture of baking soda, vinegar and dish soap. very cheap cleaner that worked wonders! moss washed right off with a jet spray from waterhose! :o)
we are putting stones back, but leaving gaps to plant the blue star creeper :o)
look at that smile! what an accomplishment!
Now I have to say that I did not MAKE him shovel that whole pile... he volunteered! well, I did promise to pay him $5 an hour.... and one he found out what compost is made of, and why it stinks so much (lol) I think he decided that shoveling it into the wheel barrel was better than crawling around planting stuff and touching it! lol!
front 'butterfly' bed. plants are in, bulbs are planted....will get lots of seeds put in tomorrow, along with a bird bath in front of the light post.
light post will get a fresh coat of paint and new screws :o)
2 3' tall sections of 3' wide white picket fence will go in corner near street/driveway to hide water main cover, and give support to various tall flowers. We plan to leave the front corner as a 'rock garden' cause we quickly discovered that once the sod was removed, there is about 6 inches of rock all around the water main :o(
We'll put a St Francis statue in front of the white picket fence on top of the rocks.
under this bench is an ugly stump that posed a problem.
We were going to just put pea gravel over it, but then I got a 'brain sprinkle' and decided to plant all her thymes here. that way when she walks on it to sit...she'll get the thyme aromas.
we put compost down today, I'll put pea gravel over that and then plant the thyme in the pea gravel.
AWESOME!!!
Anjl, that is the most amazing feat I have ever seen - I'm proud to say I "know" you!!! And would you please tell your son that I have never met a young man who had such a good heart and was such a good worker - he is truly wonderful.
It will be great fun to receive photos as this garden fills in (hint hint).
Congratulations!
Wow I just saw this thread I have been swamped. Looks great you guys got tons done. Fantastic good Job. Heidi
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!!! So exciting to see this project go from start to finish. thanks for sharing your love for your mom and the fabulous garden you created for her..
Murmur et al., I have my plans hand drawn so I can't post them, that's why I was asking Anjil how she did her plans. I am going to try to keep up on my journal/Blog (not sure what the difference is) but haven't made an entry in a few months.
Anjil yes do send updated pics of your Mom's while it fills in!!!!
AnjL- Love it love it love it!! WOW what an awesome job you all have done!! My puter was down for a day and had a bunch of catching up to do. So happy I had so many pics of your Mom's "Extreme Garden Makeover" to look at.
You're son is a superman... all growned up and helping Mom and Grandma like that ;o) Oh I'm so proud :o)....like he's my own (ours boys are so close in age...hee hee hee)
Yes, please please have a thread of the progress of the garden filling in. If it looks anything like your garden at home....all I can say is WOWsa!! Anjl.... your son, your sister and you all ROCK!! for doing this for mom/grandma!! What a family ;o) You all deserve a nice massage!!
One outstanding project!! Are you driving back today? All I can say is that I'm impressed at your organization and stamina.
Anjl ~ Congratulations on a job very well done. You have accomplished so much is such short time. Just goes to show how extraordinary teamwork is! Your son is truly a trouper (even if there was a monetary reward in it for him. . .working on his birthday and such). Your mom's yard looks beautiful and you should be very proud. Hope you were able to locate an area up here that draws your heart. . .
Safe journey home to you and, please, keep us updated with photos of your mom's yard as it grows!
Ditto what everyone else said.
Mom's going to be one happy camper when she can og out and enjoy it, and think back on all the hard work you all did together.
Save drive home.
I'm still here in WA, not leaving until tomorrow.
we went to moms today to spread pea gravel this morning,
but pea gravel wasnt delivered until 2:00 :o(
so I got a 'brain sprinkle" and decided to trim her fir & pine trees a tad....
well, found out i'm allergic to one of them...or both. have a nice red rash all over me :o( arms feel like they are on fire.
oh, and the 'lil' trim turned out to be a major job.
pine/fir trees were growing with large branches all the way to the ground. sis and I got a saw and started trimming, and trimming and trimming.
we trimmed up 6 ft on all three trees. mom now has sun in the backyard! lol! just when we finished and I started building her picket fence, the gravel showed up.
we worked til 9pm.
I'll post pix later after I relax a while :o)
Anjl
cedar boughs can scratch you up. If you're not reactive to them, the "rash" should go away by tomorrow. Hope that's the case. I did the same things last weekend.
I'll bet having the trees limbed up really increase the size of her yard - it's amazing how much space those limbs can take up.
Can't wait for the pics. Glad you're still here - you got so much done in a short time. Too bad you can't stay a couple more days and relax and enjoy it.
This is one wonderful project - just brillant, and done with such love and kindness. Although this is usually used in reference to good farming land, we refer to healthy land as being in 'good heart' - I think we can say that about Anjl'smom's garden - it is definately in 'good heart'.
sonoita - can you scan your hand drawings into a gif or jpeg file? then they can be added as a photo (I said that as if I know how to do this - I haven't a clue, but I bet Tils or Katie59 can inform us - lessons, please, girls - we want to see sonoita's plans).

Laurie is right, LOL She thinks she dosen't know, but she does. Hee Hee.
You can scan and send to you photo program. If you don't have one, you can use your camera and take a pic.
Good call, Mary. I'll be you can scan at Kinko's or a similar place, too.
Kathy, I don't think that will work, She has to send it to her system to be able to send it to us, To do it that way she will have to save it on a CD, to down load it to her program, or I am way behind the times. LOL
oh! I meant to answer your ? and I think I forgot.
I have the better homes and garden landscape program, but I dont like it! lol! too complicated, and I am really computer savy! lol! so, I got frustrated and just did the old graph paper thingy.
I scanned to my pics and then uploaded from there. it is scanned as a jpeg doc.
okay....Moms garden is officially completed ...well, for this year anyhow :o) she's thinking of paying someone to remove the sod in the back yard....but I'm NOT doing that again! LOL! The sod removal was definitely the worst part of this whole project!
here are some pics...
This pile of rubble.....
